The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

Someone that Jennifer would recognize as Captain Marvel -- not the male one, not the one inside, and not in her traditional costume -- lands on the lawn and walks non-threateningly toward the mansion. She waves and smiles. "Where you at?" Giving the traditional New Orleans greeting. "Mind if I come up and chat for a spell? I'm not here for any trouble, mon chère and cher."

Doom Pool: 3d6, 3d8 +d6 = 4d6, 3d8

Iron Man -- fully armored yet still a fraction of a percentage point off his usual game -- feels his repulsors come to full power and aims them at Cyclops, only to find the mutant leader is not there, and hasn't been since the Widow hit the floor.

The Vision does not act save for taking one more slow step back.

Outside, the group of heroes witness the far side of the lawn rising, pushing aside the trees at the periphery of the forest surrounding the mansion, and roll toward them in a wave, gaining size as it approaches.

"Auntie Monica is not amused." She says under her breath before turning into pure light and remaining visible. She rises into the air and begins to glow - a miniature sun on the lawn of this mansion.

"Before something stupid happens that can't be reversed can we all put down our guns and talk? Downtown Manhattan is a pile of debris right now so let's not add another one to the mix, sound fair mon chers?"

As Iron Man threatens Cyclops, Carol takes to the air. Not much off the floor, though, as there isn't much room to go up or around. But now Cyclops is gone and her head hurts, putting her on edge and ready for a fight. She flies through the doorway that Cyclops came through when he was bearing drinks. If he's (whoever he is, Carol is positive it's not Cyclops they're dealing with) still in the mansion, she'll find him.

"I'll get him, he can't have gone far! And somebody open that front door!

"On it," declares the new Ms. Marvel, putting aside her personal challenges with Danvers. Sofen opens a wellspring of her personal power through her connection with the Kree Lifestone. The energy swells through her body, erupting forth as a white-hot cascade of photons that Karla directs with her hands.

Karla trains her blast at the door in annattempt to vaporize it without punching holes through the door. The Lady Hulk, Hardy, and the psychokinetic man-boy were all somewhere on the other side. Ms. Marvel did her best to avoid accidentally blasting them in the process.

If it's another round, I'll bump up my headache to d6 Mental Stress for another PP. Startibg PP would be 2.

I'm going to use a precision blast to vaporize the front door.

Ms. Marvel's blast not only vaporizes the door but much of the wall surrounding it, producing a sizable hole in that side of the mansion. As the hot air from outside blows in, the three heroes, with another in an energy form among them, have only a moment to look in before their attention is taken elsewhere.

The Vision, having given Marvel's blast a wide berth, takes one last step back. Upon reaching his carefully-considered destination, his hand reaches to pull a Heckler & Koch HK33A2 assault rifle from behind a curtain near the front door. He aims the slender barrel at the heroes. The strap clicks against the body of the weapon. "Idiot humans," the voice coming from him says, one not atonal or robotic or familiar or male. "I could have taken you out one at a time," the female voice says, as the body that appeared as the Vision warps, starting from the feet and moving quickly upward, to reveal a lanky, blue-skinned shape-shifter. "But you've bored me with your senseless confusion. I'll drop the subtlety so I can save some time," Mystique says, revealed in all her glory. Standing over the prone body of the Black Widow, she aims, and smiles, white teeth appearing around her red lips and dark azure skin. Then, pulling the trigger on the rifle, unleashes a fiery barrage of full-automatic bullets at the heroes, in particular the closest one to her: Ms. Marvel. PPPRRRaaaKKKKKKKKKTTT! Outside, the insistent rumbling manifests itself as a wave of green grass and ground and trees pulled from the earth, rolling toward the heroes. It measures a staggering girth, gaining more volume as it swiftly approaches the heroes, finally crashing upon them, scattering their number and obliterating the ground that was once beneath their feet, aiming to crush or bury them. While this assault could possibly be dodged with some nimble footwork, an object is hurled from the center of the seismic wave, sent with enough force for a huge mass to fly through the air -- and not an object but a body, one with an unbelievable weight confined to a single form. Not just any body but the Blob, his grotesque form living up to every meaning of the name. He is flung in an arc with deadly accuracy, for his massive form to land among the heroes, exploding the wave of earth already upon them. "Surprise, you skinny, ugly punks!" the massive mutant mutters, his mouth lost among the rolls of fat in his face, as his sickening form makes an impact to shatter the ground in the center of the gathered heroes. Even those in the sky cannot avoid the assault of mutated cellulite and churned earth. Walters has only the barest instant -- if that -- to transform into her giantess alter-ego, and even then perhaps with no time to arrive at her desired dress. As the glacier of dirt hits, the Black Cat, caught unawares, is thrown from the debacle.

Somewhere behind the mound of moving earth, Avalanche snarls, walls of ground surrounding him.

The wave of earth spreads wide, its immensity rolling into the mansion, caving in the front of the building. Ms. Marvel's efforts to vaporize the front door are for naught, as that side of the mansion's foyer collapses but leaving no opening, keeping the two groups of heroes separated.

+d6 to Doom Pool from She-Hulk's Opportunity

The Blob guffaws heartily as his odious girth forces the She-Hulk aside and into the outer wall of the mansion. "Huh huh! We got a Hulk! I ain't ever fought a Hulk b'fore! Too bad we ain't got the real -- " Then something catches his eye -- the Black Cat, having landed a short distance from the swell of the moved earth. His eyes get notably wide. "Who's... that?" he mutters to himself, but still in a volume for anybody to hear. Then his monstrous mouth closes as well as it can and he looks back at She-Hulk, his bulbous face slack, his eyes still wide.

The Blob gurgles with laughter when he sees the young Justice pin-balled away as he brings his mighty feet down. "Huh huh huh," bubbling from his massive maw. Then bored just as quickly, he looks back to where the Black Cat limply rolled.

Inside, Mystique pivots on her feet and crouches in a ready, defensive position. "I know that's not all you got," she smiles.

Finally, the last pieces of the debris from the wall come to settle on the floor and on Black Widow's still body.

Spectrum had not even a moment to think before the Blob flew directly through her. An object passing through her energy-based form would normally be a painless occurrence, but with such a massive, organic form providing the assault, her concentration elsewhere before the attack, the summer sun's rays beating down unhindered, and being so close to a gigantic, unbridled energy field, the atoms making up her body stay dispersed. Her consciousness remains intact enough to know that she can pull herself back together in time, but each atom reconnecting to the familiar form of her existence is an agonizing sensation, excruciating and dividing her focus anew. For the moment she exists as a blurred image above the fracas, barely noticeable in the daytime light. The Blob says nothing of eliminating the former Avenger, if he noticed at all, his attention instead in the direction of the Black Cat.

Inside, Mystique slows her vamping as she turns her attention to Iron Man. She pauses, but the armored Avengers makes no move. He stands at the ready but does not act. She watches for a moment, her face turning from waiting expectation to blank confusion to impatient focus. The mutant turns back to Ms. Marvel and she bares her teeth again. "What about you?" Her voice hides the slightest stammer and she looks at Iron Man then back to the female Thunderbolt. "What next?" At her feet, a pool of blood spreads slowly from the Black Widow's head across the debris-laden floor.

She-hulk points to the grounds where the waves of earth seem to be coming from. "See if you can take out whoever is making waves, kid." she directs Justice. He was the most mobile of the heroes outside, so he'd have the best chance to close in on whoever was doing that.

She then gets up and dusts herself off as she steps up to Blob. She remembered this guy was some kind of mutant, and by the looks of him, probably fairly tough. She had been trying to keep this whole thing peaceful after the debacle with Wrecking Crew, but the gamma was pumping now. She started to cock her arm to take a swing at him before she noticed the way he was looking at Black Cat. A fat guy like this, he could take a punch, but what about a come-on? Dropping her arm, she instead took a little step up closer to him. She looks at Black Cat then back at Blob "She's a looker, isn't she? Too bad she's into skinny guys like Spider-Man. Me, on the other hand, I'm freak. You understand, a FREAK. And I like... no NEED ... a guy who can take some abuse. The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

The Blob cowers, his flabby arms going up to shield himself, but when a full, physical attack from She-Hulk does not come, he steps back up and straightens as much as his vast form will allow. His face goes from gnarled in fear to red in anger. "Nothing from you? Nothing, you green cow?" His eyes vibrate from either terror or rage, or both. A new coating of sweat breaks out from his forehead down to his jowls. His enormous fists come down upon his emerald-hued opponent, seeking to drive her into the freshly-plowed ground. "Fight me! Fight me! LET ME BEAT YOU!"

Blob attempts to create Pounded Into Ground Complication on She-Hulk:
Buddy    d10
Former Carnival Strongman    d4
(add d6 to Doom Pool)
Superhuman Strength    d10
Combat Expert    d8
She-Hulk Physical Stress    d6

Blob rolled 6,3,1,8,2 using d10,d4,d10,d8,d6 ((6,3,1,8,2)).

Total: 14, Effect: d6
1 Opportunity (available first to She-Hulk)

Doom Pool: 3d8 +d6 = d6, 3d8

Reaction Needed: She-Hulk
Next Action: She-Hulk
