Ms. Marvel nimbly drops from near the ceiling to the floor, over Black Widow's prone body and the debris strewn about it. Her thoughts her own, she grits her teeth and lifts the body. The Russian Avenger bleeds from the back of her head but is now safe in the Thunderbolt's arms -- as safe as could be in the middle of the maelstrom around them.

Toad falls unconscious but Justice's telekinetic attack no longer needs the tool of the mutant tongue. The dark creature disappears in a dark cloud but reappears in the same place instantly, turned around, then is immediately smashed against the floor by Justice's invisible force, pressed so tightly that it does not move in the slightest.

Pyro just keeps mouthing off. In Carol's head: "We're Avengers, we don't kill. We're Avengers, we don't kill"...etc. as she rolls her eyes away from the broken and battered Pyro to the sparking and menacing threat across the room.

"Anytime you want to tell me who these creatures are, you're welcome to tell me! The mind reader isn't in the house today!"

Carol is going to shrug off Pyro's taunting. He IS getting tiresome, though.

The team isn't making any headway. This is bad, mainly because with all the firepower at their disposal, they should be able to pull out a win. They should, but they're not acting like a team.
Carol's head is spinning from all of this. She knows she needs to get it together, they all need to get it together.

They need to assemble.

Carol is going to fly straight out of the room to the others and bring the electrical being with her before it can realize what she's doing. It's time to regroup. (Intent: to move out of the room back to the others and bring the bad guy with her)

As much as Captain Marvel wants to disregard Pyro's taunting, his words cause her pause. His sinister teasing infers that there are more to these creatures than just pawns but he offers no further help or details, only laughter through a smashed face. It might be her weakened mental state being in a place where she has such a stressful history, but his evil smile has gotten into her head.

Leaving behind Pyro, the electricity-wielding creature, and the burgeoning fire, Captain Marvel shuttles from the back of the mansion into the fray in the foyer. In the room that Marvel just left, Pyro's sinister smile slides from under his broken mask as the dark creature intensifies the electricity crackling around its hands when it faces the fiery villain.

Just as the creature that attacked Toad went down, so too does the one that attacked Iron Man. Both creatures are pressed hard to the floor, just as the one that attacked Ms. Marvel mid-air falls to the ground, visibly using all its strength to stand, shaking in the effort.

The last one to react would be the one across the room in the doorway to the hall, but it does not falter nor does it react to any telekinetic pressure put upon it. Instead, it turns, pointing its long, bladed weapon at Justice, its target clear even in the distance across the foyer and the chaos between them. Just as Justice might redouble his efforts on the creature, there is an explosion between them, in the middle of the room, and a blast of feedback rips through not the ears but the minds of everyone in the room. Justice's telekinetic hold shudders as he is forced back in the wake of the burst of the feedback, and a lance of hot, searing pain pierces the depths of his skull. It is everything the young mutant can do to keep control over the three other creatures he has pinned with his powers. Then the creature that evaded his grasp makes its very deadly move.

Before Justice can fully recover to his feet, using all his mental faculties to keep his hold over the creatures he has pinned to the floor with his telekinesis, the creature from the far side of the room with the bladed extension vaults across the space in a blur, upon the young mutant before anyone, least of all him, can comprehend that it has even moved. It swipes its weapon through the air, looking for purchase in the body of the former New Warrior. The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

Justice manages to avoid the attack by the creature from the far side of the room, though it is by the most narrow of margins. The young mutant can feel the blade of the creature come within a breath of his face, though it is by his battle-honed reflexes that he is able to lift the two creatures he has immobilized and use them in his defense, hurtling them toward his attacker. The attacking creature dodges them, then they are sent skittering across the floor, still pinned. The assaulting creature is not stopped but it is given pause and it drops into a defensive position in front of him, its blade in front of it. Justice's concentration is thrown for a moment but he keeps his focus to pin the pair of creatures as well as slowing the third.

Just at that moment, Captain Marvel enters the room to see the fourth creature zoom across the space to follow its ally's lead and attack Justice. The creature flies close to the floor as if attached to a great weight, still under Justice's telekinetic purview, even if his focus could be fleeting, due to the piling of foes upon him. It flies right at Justice, leading with its fist, a straight-forward charge not attempting anything other than taking down the mutant hero.

Justice takes the brunt of the creature's attack but it still batters him, forcing him back, yet he still keeps the hold on the other creatures, including his assailant, if barely. It shrieks in his face, a high-pitched squeal coming from its head, and stands with fists ready for another attack.

Once the next creature moves into the room, it too readies its own attack. The newest creature crosses its two appendages that could be called arms to form an X, then extends them both forward, fists first, and unleashes an energy blast of fierce, dark energy, aimed at the young mutant. The blast just barely misses the creature who most recently attacked the hero but the nearer creature keeps its attention on Justice.

In the blink of an eye, Justice's telekinetic defense sends the creature's dark energy back at it but, before it can reach it, even faster than the speed of the energy itself, the creature that sparred with Ms. Marvel and was Justice's most recent assailant screams, a shriek coming from its head, and, moving minimally since it's close, but quickly, puts itself in the path of the energy blasting back at the other creature. The brunt of the attack exploding into it forces it back but, even with Justice's telekinetic hold pressing against it, still rises to its feet and turns toward Justice.

Ms. Marvel heard Justice call for a ceasefire. It went against her nature to not lash out at the monstrosities attacking them, but the Marvel Boy apparently knew something she didn't. With the Russian superspy still in her arms, Karla was hardly in a position to put up much of a fight.

It is identical to the others but more animated, zooming in to the foyer, wailing at a volume that could break glass if anything fragile in the room had not already been obliterated -- "SSSHHHRRREEEEEEEEE SSSHHHREEE SSSHHHREEE SSSHHHRRREEEEEEEEE" -- then pushes its arms toward Justice.

Carol flies behind Justice, so they're ready to defend back to back. Ready to fight if another assault, but ready to stand down. She makes the X sign with her arms to whichever "infernal beast" can see her.

Justice allowed himself to be shoved but as the Ebon Fiend shoved him the young hero encased the both of them in protective shell of force. The force field took the brunt of the force and when they slowed Justice moved, just like Cap showed him once long ago and broke the hold. He and the fiend were staring each eye to eye or whatever it had for eyes.

"We are not your enemies..." he said slowly, the next step took much courage as he relaxed his hold on his captive. He closed his eyes and sought his power, gently bathing all the demons in a purple light touching everything creating a mental image of his surrounding. It was an aspect of his power he never tried before using it to sense and to feel trying to pill the layers of illusions that distorted his sight.

Meanwhile another tendril of force picked up debris and bits of wood and plaster to form the symbol of the Avengers in the air.

The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

Add d10 to Doom Pool from Justice's Opportunity

Correction: Justice's Mental Stress d8 was used in dice pool against him (msg #153), not Physical Stress (but same result)

The creatures that had been pinned by Justice's telekinesis rise, their dark mists spreading around them anew, but save for the one that now stands over Justice, they do not move forward in aggression. One has turned to spreading its dark force over the fire that has encroached from the back of the mansion into the immediate vicinity, but while it cools the flames that had overtaken the chair, it does nothing to the rest of the danger. From the thick smell of smoke, there could be an inferno in the rest of the mansion but hidden from sight here, ready to launch a fresh assault to overtake the foyer, and an attempt against it does not help.

d8 removed from Doom Pool; d10 added to Doom Pool

The creature that had attacked Toad calls to the one that attacked Ms. Marvel: "Shie unnnn ah ummm. Weeei ei ah, eh ooo on-eh awwweeewww uh weh oh, ovah eeeeee. I-ooo eh eh reah eh, ooo ah eee shoooa eh-eeein innissss rankess, nicht wahr. Fiiitwah, thhhsssomeinks wonnaerrr, sssomeks awsssie-uh isss kanlik." Its ally responds in a similar nonsense language, at a pitch high enough to rattle teeth: "AAAhh-ing is riiih-ke someks win ah ih -- weh zhuh gah fih ah wah. Wah ah ing. Wah wah ink-eee maie ihie ayah."

Doom Pool: 2d6, 4d8, d10, d12 +d10 -d8 +d10 = 2d6, 3d8, 3d10, d12

Next Action: Ms. Marvel

Karla Sofen was more than a world-class supervillain on the path to atoning for her crimes. She was, in fact, Doctor Karla Sofen, a well-educated and accredited psychotherapist. Her ability to percieve aspects of her patient's psyches that are often hidden even from the patient themselves is nearly an art form, and Karla has been developing her skill for much of her life.

Justice was taking heavy hits while contending that what Ms. Marvel saw as monsters were actually something else. She could not see past whatever force was behind this effect, but Karla figured that the boy had no reason to lie.

And so the new Ms. Marvel took a risk. It would be easy for her to lash out with her amazing alien powers, but that route seemed to be accomplishing nothing. As her hand flared in white hot energy from the Kree Moonstone, Sofen turned towards the wall behind her. With a single index finger guiding her aim, Ms. Marvel laser-etched words--

AVENGERS
NOT YOUR ENEMY

--into the wall's surface. She hoped that this might quell further attacks, though she braced for the worst nevertheless.
