The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

She-hulk raises both arms above her head and absorbs most of Blob's blow. Between the force of the blow, Blob putting his weight into it, and the softened ground from Avalanche's previous attack, he manages to drive her ankle-deep into the ground.

Overhearing Avalanche's call out, she drops the vamp act, puts on her best cross-examination schtick, and keeps up the banter rather than fighting back like you'd expect when a super-powered mutant felon was slamming on her for all he was worth. "Frank is it?" she says politely. "Sorry,  Frank, but I gotta call bullshit on the dates thing. It's just not internally consistent. You gave me the 'just human' stinkeye (and I let me tell ya, I'm SUPER-human)" she says with a wink, "AND say you've got plenty of dates?"

She shakes her head. "See, that just doesn't add up. If you're limiting yourself to only mutant girls, that's cutting your eligible pool WAAAY down. Plus, you're a felon, so we're talking fellow criminal, mutant girls. That's a pretty exclusive club..." She starts counting off on her fingers, ignoring the extra body blows that Blob is delivering to her. "There's that blue chick. But she's your boss. I don't think THAT'S happening. Then there's that six-armed chick who used to run with you guys. Nope. She's not your type. That second-string Spider-Woman hung out with you guys for a while, right? Ok, that's one. She's certainly off the list NOW though. Let's see... that chick in the white lingerie? No. Just No. That will never, EVER happen for you." She throws up her hands, "Yeah, that's all I got. One. In the rearview mirror. Even if I threw in all the X-men chicks I know about, it's still not more than a few, and they've all been on the scene long enough now that even if you DID manage to date them once, it's over. So sorry, Frank, I think it's just you and your hand. Know what I mean?"

Be sure to post current PP count at the end of any post with a dice pool

Defending from She-Hulk's mental attack, Total: 11, Effect: d10:
Buddy    d8
Warm Late Morning in the Country (hot day out)    d4
(step up Doom Pool die)
She-Hulk Physical Stress    d6

Blob rolled 6,3,3 using d8,d4,d6 ((6,3,3)).

Total: 9, Effect: d6

Blob's mental stress stepped up to d12

It is only toward the end of She-Hulk's diatribe do the Blob's blows finally begin to subside. By that time, he slows and pants heavily, now awash in yet another layer of sweat over his enormous body, which is clad in only a pair of immense, orange trunks, making it easier for some of his perspiration to splash on to the She-Hulk. He does not show a reaction to She-Hulk's words but eventually his punches halt, when the jade giantess has been pushed to her ankles in the ground below, not enough to immobilize her but perhaps to slow her for half a second.

You may spend a PP to eliminate the d4 Complication.

Doom Pool: d6, 3d8 (-d6/+d8) = 4d8

The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

"You want some earth moved, punk?" Avalanche says as he moves his hands, palms down, over the ground in front of and around of himself. "How about this?" The earth below Justice, dense with rocks and grass and endless dirt, tumbles in a violent cascade but not downward like the mutant's namesake but upward, shooting straight toward the New Warrior, covering the distance between him and his spot in the air, intending to bludgeon him if not engulf him entirely.

"ENOUGH" Justice shouts, he had enough of these bullies and their total disregard for female members of the team.

His eyes flashed violent violet and his hands flex windows shatters as he summons every glass shard nearby creating a fast rotating saw to cut the earth pillar in two. Only he was too slow the saw start cutting at the pillar raining dust and pebbles on the courtyard when the pillar slammed into Justice swallowing him in dirt and stone.

A moment silence and than thousands of glass shards began to fall down.

The rock ball that was Justice began to fall down when suddenly it began to glow violet cracks appears across the stone as Justice expand his force field trying to break free.

Tons of rock and dirt envelope Justice in a tight cocoon, one that continues to draw closer to him, constricting the hero and forcing the breath from his body. An attempt to fashion the mansion's windows into tools to free himself is for naught, ineffective against the solid material of the natural earth. Between his struggle to free himself and the air expelled from the cocoon when he was wrapped in it, Justice may not have long for oxygen... or life.

Inside, the floor rumbles, tossing about anyone without solid footing, and the front side of the foyer pitches upward, enough to send the prone form of Black Widow tumbling from face-down to face-up. A moment later, the windows of the mansion explode outward with such force that no shards blow back in. SsssKRSSSH!

Elsewhere in the mansion, Captain Marvel's concentration is broken by the crackle and heat of flame around her. At the other end of the room in which she found herself is Pyro, the mutant master of fire.

His hands are outstretched, flame fading momentarily from the generators on the backs of his wrists. He sneers. "Lucky with fire you don't have to be close," he says as flame around Captain Marvel catches and spreads to nearby curtains and a rug underfoot. Flames from his wrists jump to life again and his mouth spreads with a smile dark enough to stand against the fiery light rising in front of him. "But, fair dinkum, you won't like a direct hit."

Carol needs to get this punk dropped NOW so she can get back to her friends to lend a hand. She keeps it simple: Fly up and punch this guy in the face as hard as she can!

Captain Marvel's punch could not land more squarely in the middle of Pyro's face. His nose and the area surrounding it feels soft, as his skull caves under the force of her fist. The mutant pyrotechnic staggers backward, both from folding under the pain as well as the sheer power exploding into his head and body. Teeth and blood arc in the air before dropping to the floor. For a moment it seems as if he might also fall to the floor. But instead, on wobbling legs, he stands.

The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

After faltering once, then again, Pyro rises to his feet, with a hunch, blood coming from his nose and mouth. Yet he straightens, as much as he can, and squares his shoulders to face Marvel. His red goggles are shattered and his mask is askew but he opens his mouth, revealing a hole where it was, with teeth replaced by bloody stumps and a stream of blood running down and over his chin. And he smiles. "Ike I shaid," he mutters, his arms stretching to his sides, "You don't hafe to be egzhact." When he makes fists with his hands, the generators on the back of his wrists come to life, exploding with enormous bursts of flame, dousing the room around him. The flames catch, spreading to a sitting couch and another rug and tasteful tapestries on the wall. Not yet an inferno but past the point of putting out minor flames to avoid substantial damage.

Pyro adds d8 to Doom Pool

"Und now," he burbles, his eyes through busted goggles catching fire as he raises his hands to point at Captain Marvel. "Let'sh shee how ffflamable you are." Then the generators explode again, spraying a blaze directly at the blonde Avenger.

Meanwhile, from the back of the foyer, a figure leaps from the shadows, bouncing along the debris-strewn floor to alight on Iron Man's shoulders. The armored Avenger's strengthened chassis supports the weight of a person on him like it was nothing and a new opponent is revealed: the gruesome Toad, now perched atop Iron Man, his elongated tongue catching up to his mouth, wagging then snapping back into his face. "Ah ha," he belches, looking around the room through dark goggles. "The battle is joined." He gulps. "And here we are." He looks down and his tongue, glistening and dripping with something that could charitably be called slime, slips from his mouth and slithers to the armored hero below him, waving in front of Iron Man's face then makes contact, licking the face-plate. Slurping audibly, the tongue leaves the armor with a sheen of clear mucous. "Clean. Or was," he burps. "Delicious."

Spend d8 from Doom Pool to add Toad

With her grotesque teammate entering the fray, Mystique sighs and her shoulders drop slightly. "You took your time," she says, her eyes still dart from side to side, surveying the room. She blinks, then brings up her sub-machine gun to her hip again and points it toward the heroes. "We may still get this done after all."

She steps past the Black Widow's body, closing some of the distance between her and her opponents, but also cutting off a clear path from the heroes to the Russian spy. And at the mutant's feet, the blood coming from the Black Widow's head streams down the now-inclined plane of the floor.

Spend d8 from Doom Pool to add Danger: Black Widow Down Scene Complication d8

Outside, Avalanche interrupts his own stammering by halting his retreat. "No matter. The old lady has been wrong before," he says, with a renewed confidence. "Whatever -- w-we can still do this." He plants his feet on the overturned ground below him and puts his hands to his side. The ground begins to shake. "We'll eliminate these fools," he says, bringing his straightened arms up in an arc. "We can beat them." The rumbling in the ground increases. The Quinjet capsizes, a wing plowing into the ground. "We... can... beat... them." The rumbling grows stronger and louder, declaring a great power rising from deep in the ground below.

Avalanche adds d8 to the Doom Pool

After some moments and a great effort, the Blob has turned his voluminous body around to face She-Hulk again, now that she stands alongside the young Justice. He looks down at her, across his wide swath of exposed skin. "I didn't think you'd ever shut up," he blubbers. His body stops its nervous shaking and his eyes go blank as his skin begins to liquefy, melting and moving toward She-Hulk, picking up mass and expanding as it  slowly engulfs the jade Avenger. It starts at her feet and quickly rolls over her body, drawing her into its mass, covering her with soft, heavy flesh, as well as with the sweat and gristle that he has accumulated during the hot day. The weight of his fat bears down on her, challenging even her impressive, Gamma-radiated strength. His skin moves hard against her, pulling her into its deep recesses, rubbing her with perspiration and coarse, fine hairs, covering her with its grit, pressing into the open spaces of her mouth and ears, the molecules of his flesh invading even her pores. As the She-Hulk is forced deeper into him, she can hear a gurgling coming from the top of the putrid mountain of flesh, what could pass for a mocking, amused laugh. The sound is low and deep: "Huh huh huh huh. You ain't talkin' so much now. Huh huh huh huh." And then She-Hulk's head is
enveloped and she can hear nothing.

The Blob explodes away. His body isn't blown into pieces since the separated bits are still connected by stretchy connective tissue, like the hardest but most malleable rubber ever devised, but he might as well be in fragments. Though his face is not visible under the piles of blubber sent flying away from the She-Hulk, there is a sound of gurgling underneath the mountain of his own deflated mass.

Then the earth crumbled around him as a goddess of Jade reduce his prison into pebbles. He looked at her eyes wide with awe and gratitude. Vance was a long time fan of the Avengers but at this second She-Hulk became his number one Avenger for life.

Standing up he gave the Green giantess a weak smile "One whammy coming up." his eyes glew purple as the different pieces of Blob started to float in the air.

"I wanted you to listen to me, you are a blotch on all mutant-kind leave now or I'll tangle your parts so much your inside would be your outside and you'd spend the next month sorting yourself out."

After moments of merely standing among what is becoming the destruction of the mansion’s foyer, Iron Man finally springs back to life. He says nothing and does not react to the mutant on his back. The armored Avenger raises his hands out in front of him, his palms alight, but instead of a repulsor attack, the plates on his fore-arms open to reveal an array mini-missiles, which he points at the super-powered female in the room.

The Toad, from his vantage point on Iron Man’s shoulders, has a view of Iron Man’s target. “Heh heh,” the Toad slurps, shifting from one of Iron Man’s shoulders to the other one. Now we got us some action!”

Her assault rifle at the ready, Mystique narrows her eyes. “It wasn’t supposed to be like this. They were supposed to -- “

The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

Carol is furious. This is what makes these idiots evil. Not the grand plans, not the grandstanding, just the sheer, unrelenting determination to harm others and tear down what ordinary people have worked so hard to build. The sad thing is that it doesn't gain them anything. They just expectorate hate like it's the black plague and they want to spread it around as much as possible.

EDIT:Adding a reaction roll vs. Pyro's attack.

"Fine, Pyro", she thinks, "You're done."

The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

"Arrrggghhh!" the Toad cries, clutching his face as the flash from Ms. Marvel's fingertips penetrates even his dark goggles. Losing his balance, he falls from Iron Man's shoulders, dropping to the debris-covered floor behind the armored Avenger. "Even worse than I thought it would be! I'm blind!"

Mystique avoids the blinding attack by turning her head and closing her yellow eyes, in plenty of time. She sighs, looking back to cover the heroes with the rifle at her hip but not firing it. She stands still, sighs again, her lip snarls, the index finger on her hand holding the rifle taps steadily, looks over the room, keeping attention on the heroes but her yellow eyes glancing at corners. "Any minute now..." she hisses quietly, eyes narrowing.

Mystique adds d8 to the Doom Pool

Ms. Marvel and Iron Man are now at Buddy Affiliation again

Doom Pool: 2d8, 2d10, d12 +d8 = 3d8, 2d10, d12

The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

Even hidden behind the orbular helmet, Avalanche's eyes go wide as She-Hulk trundles toward him. He puts up his hands, as if his meager strength could provide any defense to the gamma-radiated giantess. "Wait! Wait!" he cries, stepping back to stand down. "I can tell you how we know what you're going to d -- " But She-Hulk's anger -- and fist -- cuts off his offer.

Avalanche knocked out

Avalanche's helmet explodes and, nearly, his skull. The mutant flies backward with the force of the attack, his body still when it hits the churned ground he overturned himself. His nose is flattened against his face but the bloody bubbles rising and popping from it show that he is still breathing and, indeed, still alive.

In the mansion behind the two heroes, beyond the collapsed front side of the building that offers no immediate entrance, a dark, gurgling cry rings out.

Doom Pool: 3d8, 2d10, d12 +d6 +d6 = 2d6, 3d8, 2d10, d12

As planned, the impact of Pyro's body hitting the floor is enough to douse some of the flames -- but not all. The flames reduce but there is still a burgeoning inferno reaching around the lushly furnished room.

Though many of the bones in his body audibly crunched when he hit, it is the gurgling sound of the mutant's laughter that rises over the sound of the flames. "Heh heh," he laughs, spitting up blood and teeth with his chuckle. "No witty banter, hero? Jush punshing yer way out'iv any sitchawayshun without thinkin' why it'sh happenin'?" Even with his face nearly split open, the madman continues to smile.

Doom Pool: 2d6, 3d8, 2d10, d12 +d10 (-d6/+d8) = d6, 4d8, 3d10, d12</b>

The Amazing Avengers #3: "...What So Proudly Hated"

Justice quickly scanned the area, She-Hulk did the Hulk SMASH trick and turned Avalanche into pebbles. He was happy, although the villain last words bothered him.

"We need to get inside..." he called to the Jade Goddess "I'll open the way and you get everyone out before this building drops."

Justice floated a few feat in the air a purple nimbus surrounded him. He drifted in space letting his mind touch all the derbies and remain, feeling them as he was running his mind finger on them. Slowly the ruined area began to glow in purple as more and more of it came under his influence.

Justice raised his arms and the derbies began to float, slowly and gently he did not want to cause more harm and collapse the building. In his mind he was holding thousands of items rotating them and setting them aside to create a path. The complexity was not in the weight, it was in the fine control needed to move and not cause further structural damage.

By the time he finish he was sweating under the hot sun "Clear..." he said "...I'll follow you."
