Re: The Amazing Avengers #1: "...By the Dawn's Evil Glare"

Seeing the crowd dispersing and the destruction strewn about the battlefield makes Carol realize that it's more important to get everything outside under control. She narrows her gaze towards the Hydra mooks and their sparking weapons. Tony's doing something, probably running his favorite program: His Mouth. He's the first punch, she'll be the second in a one/two combo.

Captain Marvel goes ahead and blasts at the mob of Hydra Goons. She's blasting at the ground between them, though, as to disperse and demoralize them right after Iron Man's attack.

Team: d10
Take-Charge Attitude d8
Energy Blast d8
Combat Expert d8

Re: The Amazing Avengers #1: "...By the Dawn's Evil Glare"

Iron Man fires into the hallway leading into the warehouse in which the goons are ensconced. The group are keeping well within the shadows filling the area, so the Armored Avenger can only hope that his blast will connect.

Purchasing the 2 Opportunities: adding d8 to Doom Pool; +1 PP to Iron Man.

Reaction to Iron Man's attack, Total: 11; Effect: d8:
Team    5d8
Moderately Well-Trained Goons    d8
Hydra Armor    d8

Hydra Mob rolled 2,8,7,4,2,1,8 using d8,d8,d8,d8,d8,d8,d8 ((2,8,7,4,2,1,8)).

Total: 15, Effect: d8.
Iron Man's attack fails.
1 Opportunity available.

Iron Man's attack lights up the hallway for an instant, only to reveal the agents scattered and the blast missing them widely. That brief illumination reveals that they are moving into the warehouse, but is it a retreat out of fear or of strategy? And where have they taken the Human Torch and Iron Fist so quickly?

Reaction to Capt. Marvel's attack (an intimidation attack, though that would normally use Menace Expert), Total: 18; Effect: d10:
Team    5d8
Moderately Well-Trained Goons    d8
Hydra Armor    d8

Hydra Mob rolled 4,8,2,7,8,1,6 using d8,d8,d8,d8,d8,d8,d8 ((4,8,2,7,8,1,6)).

Total: 16, Effect: d8
Capt. Marvel's attack succeeds, removing a d8 from the Hydra Mob.
1 Opportunity available.

Doom Pool: d6, 9d8 + d8, 2d10 = d6, 10d8, 2d10

Capt. Marvel's attack has better luck but it is ultimately for naught. Her blasts tear up the ground outside of the hallway and leading into the warehouse, missing the Hydra agents as intended but stopping only one from their machinations inside. The agent furthest back lets out a surprised yelp as the blast misses him by inches, but before he is left behind his teammates drag him into the building with them, now completely inside the facility.

It is at this moment that Iron Man and Capt. Marvel both notice the bow, broken, in a puddle of blood on the ground in the furthest area of the alleyway.

Next action: Mystery villain (since Hercules already went)

While the Black Panther goes about slashing the pipes on the roof, a body stirs behind him. The last, forgotten Hydra agent, prone and beaten to within an inch from unconsciousness, slowly cranes his head toward the hero, who also happens to be within his line of sight. With his last ounces of strength, he raises his pistol toward the Son of Wakanda and, with all the effort he can muster for this last shot at honor and duty to Hydra, aims at Black Panther's back. "Hail... Hydra...," he mutters so silently as his finger closes around the trigger.

Black Panther's attack succeeds. The Extraordinary Success pushes the Effect die to considerably more than it needs to be to take out the goon.

Doom Pool: 11d8 + Step, 2d10 = 10d8, 3d10

The junction box hits the goon squarely in the arm, enough to knock both the pistol from his hand and the man out.

Black Panther stands amidst the bodies of seven Hydra goons lying prostrate. As he swiftly scans the area he notices the access door to the roof is ajar. Only darkness shows through the opening, with stairs leading down into the warehouse.

For the moment, with the Hydra gang retreated into the warehouse and the other group defeated on top of the building, the area is silent and still.

Re: The Amazing Avengers #1: "...By the Dawn's Evil Glare"

Carol looks from the bow to Iron Man, "Dammit, Tony, yeah. I know he can handle himself, but this looks bad. Can your sensors pick up anything? We have to find him, but we can't let those Hydra finish whatever they're doing in that building!" Carol is torn between going after Hydra and trying to find Hawkeye. She knows Hawkeye would want them to get the Hydra goons, because he's just that way, but with Black Panther, Hercules, and...The Sentry (that may cause more problems than it solves, she thinks) the Hydra goons might be in check. That blood, however, means that something nasty and dangerous might be nearby and ultimately, Hawkeye just isn't in (she looks at Iron Man) their class of power.

Carol makes her fists glow, both to have a blast ready in case it's needed, but also to illuminate the alley if necessary. Her intent is to see if the blood creates a trail and to determine whether or not this is related to the Hydra stuff.

"We should go after Clint. This doesn't look good."

Re: The Amazing Avengers #1: "...By the Dawn's Evil Glare"

Tony whips around and stares into the long, dark hallway, momentarily torn between rushing in and not -- but that scream...it certainly affects the decision. Turning back to Captain Marvel, the suit's faceplate slides up and over the suit's head, exposing Tony's face, his look of urgent concern apparent to the most casual observer. "My earlier scan of the building showed this door and one on the other side -- both of them are heavy, and reinforced. There's also a door on the roof. The building as a whole has been shielded from scans somehow, so I can't say for certain what's inside...but they took Johnny and Dan inside, so Clint's probably in there too. T'Challa will probably go in through the roof. He's quiet and stealthy. He'll do well. Me...well, I'm not the quiet type."

With that, the suit's faceplate snaps shut and Iron Man turns and walks towards the the foreboding hallway. "Friday, run another scan. See if you can find our missing guys, or any more information about what's inside."

Dice Pool: Team d8, Cutting Edge Tech d8 (the scream nullified Tony's overconfidence), Cybernetic Senses d6, Tech Master d10.

You could have used the Narrow Hallway distinction.

Doom Pool (10d8, 3d10) reaction to Iron Man's attempt to scan the hallway, Total: 15, Effect: d8.

Watcher rolled 6,8,2,4,1,4,4,6,1,3,6,8,8 using d8,d8,d8,d8,d8,d8,d8,d8,d8,d8,d10,d10,d10 ((6,8,2,4,1,4,4,6,1,3,6,8,8)).

Total = 16, Effect = d10.
2 Opportunities available.

Doom Pool: 10d8, 3d10

Iron Man's scan of the hallway reveals nothing more than anyone else could get from looking into it: It is a narrow shaft leading into the warehouse. It is clean, and the walls of it are made from some kind of metal, likely not the original material when the warehouse was built, which indicates that there has been interior work done recently. Shadows filling the hallway obscure seeing clearly to the end of it, though there is light on the other side. Also eerily quiet, assuming there is something inside the building.

After stalking the sky for who knows how long, the Sentry grows more and more impatient from his lack of action. Requiring more stimulation from a high-stakes battle, the Sentry positioned himself closer, hoping to assist the team better. With most already positioned within the building, this glowing guy places himself on the roof, to accompany Panther-Man. Unfamiliar with a team up, the Sentry senses he would damage the Panther's ability to hide in the shadows, assuming that his dark, shady costume comes equipped with sneaky skills. Even so, Sentry felt a flow of loneliness and sadness within the darkness- possibly even from Panther himself- leaving Sentry with the decision to stay a determined distance from the man, able to lend his power when needed, yet giving Black Panther a suitable environment to maneuver

Re: The Amazing Avengers #1: "...By the Dawn's Evil Glare"

NEW ROUND

In the large multi-purpose room that makes up most of the warehouse, renovated with thick, shiny metal walls, a sea of Hydra are lined up in neat, synchronized rows, from the back of the place up to just below where the heroes stand on an elevated landing.  The soldiers stand perfectly still, with their legs and arms stretched to an X.  They are silent.  Catwalks line the sides of each wall, reaching to the back of the room where there is a door, and beside it a huge window overlooking the area, though it is mostly opaque.  A few more soldiers stand on catwalks on each side, legs and arms also outstretched, like the ones on the floor.  Above this all floats a platform, set toward the back of the room, the figure on it clear in the distance: the treacherous Taskmaster!  At his feet lies the bloodied, unmoving body of Iron Fist.  "You've found the place, might as well come in and trash it!  Or maybe this time we'll trash you!"

As the heroes step into the place, the army of Hydra agents seem to activate in perfect harmony, all of them barking their familiar mantra, starting as a modest sound but progressing quickly to a clamorous roar: "Hail Hydra. Hail Hydra.  Hail Hydra!  Hail Hydra!  HAIL HYDRA!  HAIL HYDRA!"

As the heroes take this in and tense their muscles and fists to ready for the onslaught, a huge, gleaming door slams behind them, the sound as loud as thunder, now trapping them with these villains and no escape.

Over the din, the Taskmaster cackles and raises a bloody sword to the sky. The soldiers pull out their weapons and move toward the heroes, surrounding them utterly, as the Taskmaster's throaty laughs crackle in the background.

Adding LARGE, REINFORCED TRAINING ROOM and FLOATING PLATFORM distinctions, -2d8 from Doom Pool.

Both groups of heroes are now separated, so both can have actions at the same time. The main group with the Hydra army are now all at Team affiliation.

The stairwell is dark but leads into a bright hallway.  The florescent lighting shines against the walls of reinforced steel.  It is a nondescript hallway but what is in it is notable: There are bodies of six Hydra agents strewn about, each of them prone on the floor, one with his head propped against the wall, just where he landed.  On a slightly closer inspection, the two security camera attached in corners against the ceiling on each end of the hallway, are hanging from wires in pieces.  The hallway ends at a solid, metal door, but to the right of that is an open doorway, leading into a room from which a flickering light comes.  There is no movement in the hallway and the only sound is the muffled but clear shouting of "HAIL HYDRA!  HAIL HYDRA!" presumably coming from the main area of the facility.

Adding UPPER LEVEL OFFICES distinction, -d8 from Doom Pool.

Black Panther and the Sentry now use Buddy distinction.

The hallway contains only two doorways, one ahead with a closed door and the other on the side leading into a room, neither a stairwell. The shouting comes not from either room but its sound travels just so through these metals walls, so it is loud enough to be heard in spite of not being in the immediate vicinity, though its is muffled for its travels.

At that moment a short cry comes from the room with the open doorway. It is a voice low and gravely, and the tone seems to be one of anguish, not distress. At that same time, lights from inside the room flash wildly in a full range of colors, spilling into the hallway.
