Re: Starfall - Episode One:  Blind Man's Bluff

T-3PO listened to the two others and responded with a slight haughtiness, "Convincing?! Young Lady Ghostling, I have the confidence of Imperial officers already.  And, fellow droid, I am fluent in over seven million forms of communication."

Ali was about to point out that a being willing to to exploit the confidence shown to it by Imperial to Rebels did not speak well for future confidences but she remained silent.  DeeJay caught her breath slightly at T-3PO bragging of his superior language skills.  She didn't have a breath but simulated the effect almost subconsciously after decades of listening to organics.

"Shall we go?" T-3PO asked.  Taking no immediate utterance as discouragement, he led the team through a series of corridors and mazeways that even Blissex had to think about.

Soon enough, the heroes were making excellent time.  Until they encountered a protrusion of bent metal and sparking circuitry.  Something had crashed with some violence into this particular access way.

Thruaya gasped.  She saw the nose of a Y-Wing fighter in the center of the intrusion.

OOC:  You can tell the Y-Wing was what crashed through this area.  The rest is currently buried and obscured under Imperial wreckage...

Re: Starfall - Episode One:  Blind Man's Bluff

"Of course, please proceed and I shall follow," said the doctor, a bit surprised at the overly proud response.  This poor droid had been working with Imperials for far to long it seemed.  Still he seemed eager to be useful and right now TwoOneBee was glad for any help whatsoever.  Looking over to DeeJay he could tell she was considering a reply so he simply gave her a quick shakes of his head.  He hoped she'd understand his meaning.  It simply wasn't worth it and they had little time for arguments at this point.

As he saw the wreckage of the Y-wing blocking the corridor, whatever hopes he might have had immediately vanished.  Dutifully, he scanned the remains of the fighter for any signs of life before turning to his companions.

"How can we circumvent this.  We are swiftly running out of time!" he questioned, more than a little concerned.  He did his best to modulate his vocalizer but could not entirely edit the tremor in his speech program.

Re: Starfall - Episode One:  Blind Man's Bluff

TwoOneBee scanned for life signs, his fundamental priorities.  If there was a healer in the universe that could make a difference, it would be this noble droid.  Using internal scanners and even his robotic hands, TwoOneBee could soon tell that the poor pilot was beyond anyone's help.  At least it had been quick.

While the pilot's rebellion was over, the consoles of the Y-Wing showed a few lights.  There was life of a kind in the fighter at least...

While Shira was making her suggestions, Celes was already climbing to the cockpit to see what could be done with the war machine. She'd been impressed with the Y-Wing from the time she first saw it, appreciating both the sleek design of the bomber as well as the addition of ion cannons in its defensive arsenal. Whether it was the engines or weaponry coming up on the display, she'd try to find a use for it.

Re: Starfall - Episode One:  Blind Man's Bluff

With the time-honored approach of some people working while most earnestly kibitzing, the status of the downed Y-Wing was better ascertained.

All means of movement, repulsorlift, sublight engines and hyperspace engines were dead.  The astromech was destroyed as well.  DeeJay sent a binary dirge for its memory.  Communication and sensors were also destroyed.

But weapons systems were quite functional as a test fire of laser cannons through the corridor ahead proved.

Hanging near the back as machinery was not her strong point, Thuraya began to hover off the ground slightly.  "Showoff!" Ali teased.

Thuraya said, "It's not me.  The gravity is failing the further we go down this corridor."

Ahead of the crew, a open wound of the great ship showed naked space and stars.  But the force field technology that allowed pressurized hangers to be open to space was in force.  The heroes knew this because, otherwise, they would have been sucked out into the void and deadly decompression.

"Look!"  DeeJay said, adding an alarm klaxon.  Six tiny stars were moving from the firmament towards the ship.  Stormtroopers!

OOC:  The stormtroopers are not Zero-G troopers so you can thank your lucky stars.  They are ordinary stormtroopers using blaster fire(?) to maneuver in vaccuum.

"Everyone get back here, *now!"* Celes tried manipulating the Y-Wing some more to see how much control she could get over the nose blasters. If it came down to simply firing them or not, that would still be enough, but she'd really prefer being able to aim.

Re: Starfall - Episode One:  Blind Man's Bluff

The Doctor examined the wreckage of the fighter craft, echoing DeeJay's regret at the loss of the valiant astromech as much as the Y wing's pilot.  It was clear, even to him, that the ship was no longer space worthy, which was unfortunate since a serviceable vessel was what they needed most at the moment.  There might be something salvageable from its wreckage, but even if there was TwoOneBee wondered if they had time to spend doing so.  Every moment they remained on this Star Destroyer they were closer to its doom, and their own.

He was about to suggest this when DeeJay's klaxon sounded.  The realization that more Storm Troopers were on the way did not exactly alleviate the poor droid's growing concerns.  He certainly did not argue when Celes ordered them to stay close and on alert.  Placing a metallic hand on DeeJay's shoulder, his swiveled his face to meet hers so she knew her message had been received.  Sometimes his companion droid was a bit overenthusiastic with her sound effects, not that the doctor minded.  He found it a very endearing example of how her personality had outgrown her original programming.

"We should find cover DeeJay.  If those Storm Troopers find us, logic dictates our chances of continued functionality may depend on our ability to stay hidden from them."

Hearing Emessee bleep and tootle and shook his head.  The silly MSE unit was growing on him, though he had no idea why.

"Well of course you should come too you ridiculous assortment of spare parts.  You are a Rebel now are you not?"

Re: Starfall - Episode One:  Blind Man's Bluff

The tiny stars of stormtroopers began to approach.  Celes tried to manipulate the crashed Y-Wing's controls.  It seemed the laser cannons worked well enough but they only had a few degrees of movement, a very tiny arc indeed.  The troopers very likely would see the Y-Wing and would know to avoid it at all costs.  Nimble enough to stay of harm's way, the troopers would have to be moved into the firing area.

Shira took what cover she could, the tiny protruding 'neck' of the trapped Y-Wing.  Here she would have cover but no real chance of movement or better aim.   But there was one thing Shira noticed.  Practiced as the stormtroopers were, they were not truly native to a zero-G environment.  Strictly speaking, neither was Shira being distantly descended from pure humans.  But she still had decades of experience.   Where others might awkwardly dance with weightlessness, Shira would fly.  But it would require getting closer to danger.

At TwoOneBee's encouragement, Emesee trilled the Imperial March in two-bit binary.  It was the only true theme the little droid knew and the fact that it was typically the song of the opressor had probably escaped the single carbon-scoring card in the MSE's memory.

DeeJay took cover, herself broadcasting the mighty Alliance theme.  She had recorded it during the medal ceremony after the destruction of the Death Star when it seemed like the Alliance could do anything.

"Oh, don't mind me.  I'll be fine." T-3PO said, slightly rebuffed at not also being urged to take cover by the venerable medical droid.  The voice still dripped with that condescending sarcasm, a strange choice for one of the few droids capable of changing its voice...

OOC:

Sorry I haven't posted in so long.

07:23, Today: That Old Fossil, for the NPC Zero-G troopers, rolled 8 using 2 dice with the WEG Classic system ((5,{Wild}3)).

07:24, Today: That Old Fossil, for the NPC Ali, rolled 15 using 4 dice and 2 pips with the WEG Classic system ((3,{Wild}3,1,6)).

Y'all have won initiative.  Some notes:

1.  Currently,  the opponents are at long range for personal weapons but not for the Y-Wing's laser cannons.
2.  The troopers can see the Y-Wing's laser cannons and KNOW to avoid that death zone.
3.  In order of skill, Shira would be the least challenged by zero-G, then the troopers (who apparently are Zero-G trooper cadets, then the heroes.
4.  Your characters are currently in full gravity.  But to move forward any real difference will start to move into weightlessness.
5.  The troopers can be tricked or feinted into moving into the laser cannon's arc.

I will let you guys take your first die actions, then the troopers first action and then alternate extra actions from then on (if any).  Let me know what questions you have.  Otherwise, just declare and make your roll, we have the time to get things right. :-)

Shira doesn't leave cover, knowing how fragile she is. Instead, she braces her blaster against the fighter and brackets one of the stormtroopers with blaster fire, trying to herd him into the laser cannon's firing arc. She pumps her fist dramatically as DeeJay plays the Alliance theme.

Shira's blaster bolt was quite skilled in its loosing but the range worked against her and the lance of energy continued past the floating troopers onward to oblivion.

Seeing this, Ali took careful aim...

Thuraya concentrated and waved her hand but whatever she hoped for did not seem to manifest.  She uttered a curse usually only achieved with a wookie's throat.

Ali is aiming, taking an extra round for an extra die.

Re: Starfall - Episode One:  Blind Man's Bluff

TwoOneBee didn't know what to do, which was abnormal for him, to say the least.  Blaster bolts were bursting all around them.  He decided all he could do was take responsibility for the artificial life forms in their group: DeeJay, himself, EmesseeOne, and their new 'ally' T-3PO, who still seemed upset about earlier.  The doctor created a reminder to offer the protocol droid an apology later.

He scanned each bot in turn, making sure all the droids were in safe places during the firefight.  He was especially concerned for DeeJay, NOT that he was showing her any favouritism of course (that was simply not true, no matter what the silly MSE unit had said).  He just knew she could be a bit enthusiastic when she was in her 'broadcast mode' and tended to be less cautious because of this.  He noted to his satisfaction that, in spite of wanting to join in the musical moment, the droid had managed to find suitable cover.  T-3PO was also adequately sheltered.  Every droid accounted for thankfully.

He also scanned and monitored his organic companions.  He wanted to be ready at a moment's notice, in case his services were needed.  So he kept his systems actively scanning all of the members of his 'Rebel Family' hoping the violence would be over soon.

OOC: 21B is keeping an eye on everyone and holding his action, just in case at some later point he is needed.

Re: Starfall - Episode One:  Blind Man's Bluff

Celes pulled down her green goggles and readied the ship to let loose a barrage of blaster fire as the troopers got closer. At the very least, she'd corral them even if she didn't hit them. And maybe the proximity of the blasts will do some damage themselves. The only way to be sure was to try it. Just had to pick her moment...

Re: Starfall - Episode One:  Blind Man's Bluff

Making sure that everyone was sheltered, TwoOneBee then (and only then) sheltered himself.

Celes' Y-Wing's bolts shot like fire across the expanse, beautiful and utterly ineffective.

The stormtroopers did take note of the overwhelming death that has missed them and decided to make their limited shots of their (likely) limited lifespans count.

Stormtrooper #1 fires at Ali
Stormtrooper #2 fires at Thuraya
Stormtrooper #3 fires at Celes
Stormtrooper #4 fires at Shira
Stormtrooper #5 fires at Blissex.

21:34, Today: That Old Fossil, for the NPC Zero-G trooper 1, rolled 12 using 3 dice with the WEG Classic system ((5,2,{Wild}5))

21:36, Today: That Old Fossil, for the NPC Zero-G trooper 4, rolled 1 (4 excluding the wild die) using 3 dice with the WEG Classic system ((1,2,{Wild}1)).
21:36, Today: That Old Fossil, for the NPC Zero-G trooper 5, rolled 16 using 3 dice with the WEG Classic system ((4,{Wild}6(+5),1)).

The troopers all missed due to the distance.  And their recoil (due to the strange physics of this faraway galaxy) caused them to drift in slightly different directions.  The Rebels would have another chance.

Despite this, Emessee was filled at rage and charged forward *bonk* to deal with the troopers personally.

Looks like everyone missed this round.  But you have the initiative now as the second round starts.  Emessee's brave advance will be comically useless and thus ignored by the troopers.

Without the troopers getting into the line of fire of the Y-Wing, the best Celes can do is draw her blaster and use the cockpit as cover. Rather than fire at the stormtroopers, she fires at the edges of the ship's hull between her group and theirs. The blasts should either blind them or at least make targeting more difficult.

Using my blaster to hinder the troopers as best I can!

The troopers fired before moving, thinking they had speed and accuracy on their side.  They had speed.  As the bolts missed the heroes dramatically, they had then advanced.  Surprisingly, this slight closing of range had made Shira's shot hit home.  Celes was just ask skilled.

Despite Ali's aiming and Thuraya's concentration.  Both failed in their attempts to shot or move the trooper into the Y-Wing's arc of fire.

Go ahead and roll damage, Celes and Shira.  I will try and be quick with the reply.

The trooper took Shira's bolt full on.

Go ahead and roll 5D damage, Shira.  Playing the odds, you have disabled him.

Ali shot as well, just catching another trooper.

21:12, Today: That Old Fossil, for the NPC Trooper, rolled 1 (4 excluding the wild die) using 3 dice with the WEG Classic system ((1,2,{Wild}1)).

Finally, the trooper moved into the fire arc of the Y-Wing, held by forces that were irrestible.  "Yours, Celes!" She said with a grin.

Even Blissex realized how grim the stakes were and picked up one of the many weapons the crew had 'acquired'.

Ali's trooper still floated inert.

Re: Starfall - Episode One:  Blind Man's Bluff

The Doctor watched the ongoing fight with trepidation.  He detested violence as any medical and surgical specialist did.  Still he had learned, over his long years of activation, to reason beyond his basic pacifistic programming.  Thus he understood there was a time when it was the only remaining recourse.  Life was of utmost importance and, in defense of life it was an viable if regretable final option.  He wished he could be of some assistance, but after considering his options, he realized the thing he could do most to help was to stay out of the line of fire.

So he cheered for his friends, for they seemed to be winning, or at least he hoped they were.  Shira, Celes, Ali, and Thuraya, they were all very brave.  Even Wallex Blissex joined the fray.  TwoOneBee readied a MedPac just in case and followed the course of events with an intense interest.  One simple fact was undeniable to the anxious doctor...their survival depended on a positive outcome.
