Dwarven History (Arliss)

OOC: a bit of ingame stuff, a bit of background...

Was Arliss in Hallein before?
If so, is the local dwarf friend or relative? Of course he can be a friend or relative even if Arliss hasn't been there before.
Do you want to have (distant) ties to the dwarves who lived here a long while ago? Something along the lines of "uncle Romars aunt and her family"...

Dwarven History (Arliss)

"If you're not afraid of ghosts, Arliss, I think I know a place where you might find pieces of art from old masters long gone. I don't know of anyone claiming to have ventured into the old tunnels near Hallein, so whatever was left there must still be there. Locks, some traps, maybe even treasure." The old dwarf makes a short pause. "It's not safe to go there, rumor goes that the ghosts of the fallen haunt the place. One of them is menacing Hallein, I've heard."

Dwarven History (Arliss)

OOC: I don't believe he's ever been to Hallein, or if he has, not recently.

I'd be fine being related to the local dwarf (a blacksmith, right?), and maybe it's been a few decades since they've seen each other. And distant ties to the Long Ago Dwarves sounds like it'd be fun, like maybe there are some family rumors about what's going on there, or what went down to make the place be abandoned.

"Ghosts hold no fear for me, Uncle," Arliss says with a smile. "There's plenty of things still with a pulse to be worried about in my line of work; until I can conjure a lock to keep even those what can walk through walls at bay, I'll spend my time worrying about the living."

He raises an eyebrow at the mention of Hallein, though, and starts to search his memory.

"I think we've family there, don't we? A smith, correct? What was his name, s'been ages since I saw him last. Gorbash, weren't it? And he had a son, Groma- no, Garmox, I think. Maybe he'll know a bit more about the Old Tunnels..."

"Garmox is his name, yes. Old Gorbash, oh, he died about twenty years ago, as far as I recall. I'm quite certain Garmox will know a bit more about the old tunnels, though he's on an even more distant branch of the family tree. Gorbash, I don't know if I ever told you, chose a wife from a different clan. Pretty girl, really, and sharp wits, too. Also a sharp tongue, like most of her clan. We did not get along very well." The old dwarf chuckles.

"There's a legend about a weapon that was wielded by Magrimosh, the clans leader: the hammer 'Orcbane'. Maybe you'll find evidence of it there. It's said that Magrimosh killed many an orc back then."

Garmox is a blacksmith, right. I'm glad that you like the suggestion. It's more fun for me as well to intertwine a bit of background into the adventure :)

It would be interesting to know if Arliss intends to travel by ship or by foot. The latter is not much fun - but some dwarves dislike water, so it might be the lesser pain ;)

"That sounds like a rewarding diversion, Uncle. And I've not seen Garmox in decades, which is a mistake that I'll soon remedy. There's a boat that goes that way, as I understand. I wonder when the next one leaves..."

"You want to go by boat?" The old dwarf looks sort of shocked. "These things tend to sink."
Arliss remembers that his uncle is somewhat afraid of water.

OOC: Hm, the thread with the other two traveling by boat is finished. Would be tricky to get Arliss unto that one, too. But maybe you've got an idea. I'll set you into the group to take a look.
