In Which We Return to the Story of Urban Faeries

A few years have gone since a group of Faeries, living among the people of New York City, saved Christmas.  Sort of.  Perhaps they saved the city from too much Christmas.  It has receded into lore, strange events shrugged off.

Now it is summer.  It's one of those warm wet northeastern Julys.  The air is thick with humidity, the streets are thick with tourists.  Evenings can bring sharp, sudden thunderstorms almost nightly, as the cooling air cannot sustain all the moisture.  The storm a few nights ago was spectacular; not even a Sylph would fly through a storm like that.

Our story begins a few days after that.  Another summer day, the skies are clear today, the Yankees are home and the Mets are away.

Something links the Faeries involved in this.  Choose at least one:

Your character is closely involved with the Morgan Library, which investigates unusual things and problems tied to the Faerie World.  When the Faeries face a problem, they often turn to the library.

Your character knows one of the other **active** player characters well, and will tag along as a result of that connection.

Your character knows one of these three NPC's well:

Sionann, the Hudson Selkie.  She comes, she goes, lately she's been very happy with the fact that the natural environment of the Hudson river has been recovering.  Whales have even been seen there.

Thale the High Elf.  He's one of those Fey completely embedded in Human culture with an identity, a job (actor, male model) and even credit cards!  He's very popular with a certain circle of wealthy Humans and Fey that are part of the art world.  A very nice person, really, but no intellectual.  It's okay, most of the time, Thale is just about enjoying life.  Typical for a High Elf, he's extraordinarily good looking and gets invited to high society parties.

Proge the Goblin.  Works for the Department of Sanitation, generally at the Harlem River Waste Transfer Station.  Socially about as opposite to Thale as one can get.  An avid fisherman, and sports fan.

Well, duh!!!

Since the Library belongs to Flea (YES IT DOES, I WILL FITE YOU, TALL PERSON!) that would be my connection. The Library can't work without the help of a six inch high stinky rodent-lover! Here I come to save the day! Don't step on my cockroaches!

I can join the bandwagon and say that Oscar is pulled in because of his arrangement with the library.

Gremian is still on the Library pay rolls.

But, remote kin is still kin. Gremian had befriended Proge during the spring. Gremian loved to meet Proge at the Waste Transfer station; there is always a treasure to pocket.

Botachs connection to the library is Gremmian, he knows of it through occasional contact they have and decided to see it for himself. The concept of humans and fae working together is an interesting one to Botach.

In Which We Return to the Story of Urban Faeries

Alisa is a particularly tricky addition to the Library.

She is a Changeling.  An Elven baby raised as a Human.  This has been an excuse Humans have used for millenia to explain things going wrong with their babies.  "It's not ours, an Elf gave us their defective baby and took ours!"  It gave people some comfort, softened some feelings of guilt but was never (maybe rarely) true.

Elves have no desire to raise Human babies.  They have entirely other reasons for giving a baby away.  It doesn't happen all that often, and the reasons are extremely diverse, but swapping out for a better baby is not one of them.

Satisfying some prophecy, on the other hand, is.  The Elves are magical immortals, and they take things like destiny and prophecy very seriously.  This means the Faerie-kind in general have learned to be very cautious with changelings.  You don't just go up to one and say, "Hey, do you know you're an Elf?"  You might not believe all this destined life path stuff, but the Elves do, and you do not want to anger them.

Unless you are a Troll, but that's another story.

The Changeling must be left to follow their path.  They can be quietly assisted, steered, guided, protected, but the path the Elves set for their child must be followed. Even the magic of the Veil seems to know this- changelings do not see through it until they are ready.  It could be that Elves had a hand in setting up the Veil in the first place. Again, very magical beings.

But Alisa's status is clear to everyone else.  To that end, as soon as the Library staff and their Fey agents learned about her it became their mission to aid and protect her.  Can't have a Changeling loose in the city unprotected, bad things could happen. So Alisa might think she is lucky- she has a job with the library, she has an apartment nearby they helped her acquire, and of course she has a solidly backed Human identity.  Authentic papers and everything.  No cheating.  Of course she has yet to create an authentic Fey identity.  But that will come, and it's much easier.  No documents, no background checks.

I SHALL USE MY POWERS AND PROTECC THE CHANGELING!!!

SHE SHALL NOT GET A WASP'S NEST IN HER HOME!!! RATS WILL NOT STEAL HER CHEESE!!! SHE MAY HAVE ROACHES, BUT THEY ARE LIKE THOSE IN JOE'S APARTMENT!!!

And I will bravely eat any pastry she happens to leave unattended for more than a minute!!! So much self-sacrifice!!! I am the bravest little fairy ever!!!

So as long we do not alter the changelings path its fair game?

Does Alisa happen to enjoy games of chance?

Unless a troll prince ask me to do it, I will be loyal to the Library and respect the secret around the Changeling.

I assume Felix is working somewhat with the Library, probably in exchange for figuring out his condition
