Chapter X -  Combat Round 1635.3
Cord throws one of his daggers at the werewolf.  The dagger disappears into the brush behind the creature.  Jeva reacts to the sounds around her.  A basic and instinctive sense of self preservation moves her into action.  She is about to be outnumbered.  They are coming. Her keen hearing can hear the pounding of footsteps rushing toward them.  She did not achieve what she set out to do.  With the threat of those running and approaching quickly sounding alarms in her head, Jeva turns and dashes back into the underbrush with an almost supernatural speed.  Cord blinks and where the werewolf was there, now is nothing more than a few saw leafs moving in the rain and gloom.

Jhaelin, Karok, Lann, and Val come on the scene too late and find nothing but Cord standing just inside the wood line with an arm badly gnashed and bleeding.

Inside the cottage there is a surprising turn of events. Aris pulls an arrow to cheek and lets fly at a very surprised shaman.  Its eyes fly wide and it whips its arms from behind him with the rope still dangling from one wrist to his front.  He reaches a clawed hand up to its mouth and with flick snatches away the gag. That's as far as he got.  Whatever spell he was about to unleash on them was stopped as the arrow lodged itself in his head.  The shaman sinks over onto his side.

The female kobold screams.  The shrill, not quite human sounding, scream echos across the glade informing those in the wood line that something was amiss.  The scream is cut off as two singularities of distorted space strike her in the chest.  A look of terror is frozen on her face as she slumps and no longer moves.

Cord, you may attempt to give pursuit, but given the speed of the creature and the light, it cuts across your better judgement.  Logic dictates that you would not catch her.  But, you may try, therefore we are still in combat rounds.  Also, if you choose, you get a free attack with +2 to hit if you do not give chase and instead wish to try and kill her before she gets away.

Chapter X -  Combat Round 1635.3
Val looks around and sees a large creature, "A werewolf??" running away.  It's moving to fast for her to even think about hitting.  After hearing the scream from inside the cottage, Val picks up her second spear from the ground, and goes back inside.

She sees an arrow in the shaman's head, and a dead female kobold.  Not sensing any immediate danger she sets the spears against the wall next to her, readies her dagger and stands just inside and to the right of the doorway still ready for anything.

"It was Jeva," Cord explained to the others.  He held his injured arm across his body as they approached.  "She's been changed somehow.  Let's get back inside before she or whatever she called comes back.

"There's some wood here if someone could carry it," he waved at the wood strewn about with his good arm before walking back to the hut.

Born a servant of Selūne, Lann was familiar with lycanthropy. Taught as a child to keep far away or risk contracting the affliction, he knew little could be done for the child at this point.

"Cord, we're you bitten or scratched?" Lann asked as he began to pick up firewood.

"Cord, a bite from a lycanthrope is nothing to take lightly." Lann remarked.

"You could very well be afflicted with the curse." Lann drops the bundle of firewood and begins to look around frantically.

OOC: Are we still in combat? If not I would like to use herbalism to search the area for belladonna (wolfsbane).

Chapter X -  Combat Round 1635.4
With no immediate thread present, Jhaelin bolts from the wood line back to the cottage.  He finds the shaman and the female kobold dead.

"What in the layers of the Hells happened?" he stammers, unable to pull his eyes from the shaman with an arrow through his head.  Then he notices the unbound hands and turns to Aris.  It is one of her arrows.

"You may have just saved us all." he says quietly and gratefully.  He looks at the female kobold and shakes his head.  There is no evidence of a stab or beating.  That leaves magik and he slowly turns to Illiana with questioning eyes.  Even if, if the kobold had gotten loose, which obviously did not happen, the kobold was little in the way of a threat.  The kobold's hands and legs are still tied.

"You did that?" Jhaelin asks.

Chapter X -  The Missing Children
Tiwesdaeg 1640 (low sun)

The companions all gather once again in the cottage, out of the drizzling rain that coninues to fall.  Thunder rolls occasionally, but it is far away to the north and west. Lann searches the cottage and finds some very dry wolfsbane among some items on the shelving, lying among jars that hold various organic tissues, or other matter, or other herbs.  One jar even has an eyeball floating in a viscous yellow fluid.

End of Combat rounds...

Chapter X -  The Missing Children
Illiana was taken aback by the questioning looks.  She acted as anyone else would when one of them took up arms, which meant imminent danger. She assumed, correctly in her opinion, to deal with the situation.  True, that she was not over there and knew not exactly what was transpiring, but it was dangerous enough for Aris to outright kill the shaman.  Was she justified in doing so, she wondered. Or, is that the nature of the elves from the underworld?

"They were trying to get away, or something was about to happen.  Aris shot the shaman dead to rights. That tells me something was afoot."  she says.  "And terrified? I think not."

Illiana grabs her pack and pulls a spell book from it.  She sits back down in the large adorned chair and begins flipping through the pages, apparently done with the conversation.

Chapter X -  The Missing Children
Karok enters the cottage in the middle of the conversation.  He bends down and rights the body of the shaman against the wall.  The shaman was dead alright.  Karok looks him over and finds the bindings to his arms and wrists undone and picks up the rope.

"I'd say someone needs ta practice the handl'n of a rope."  the dwarf says.  He unties the rest of the rope and winds it up before handing back to Roxie.

Karok then unties the female kobold and has trouble loosening the knots.

"She was'n gonna be gett'n free without some help." he says, finally drawing the knots free.  He winds the rope up and hands it back to Cord.

"Well, I think I will drag these two outside, then meh'be get catch some shut-eye."

Karok drags the two kobolds outside.  Nature will take care of them.

Jhaelin sighs, and is about to help Karok drag out the kobolds, when he remembers Cord's injury.

"Sorry Cord." he says, moving over the woodsman. "Let me take a look at that."

The arm is badly gnashed by fangs and Jhaelin takes the arm in his hands and closes his eyes.  Jhaelin makes a plea to Heironeous', to allow through himself some of His holy Will, to grace Cord with a healing touch.

The warmth spreads through Cord and the wounds close, leaving nothing but angry looking welts where the injury had been.

He smiles reassuringly, "Only time will tell whether the bite was infectious of the lycanthropy. I have faith all will be well."

"It is not my power, Cord." Jhaelin explains lightly.  "I am merely a vessel, a path or conduit for Heironeus'Will.  It is He that healed you, through me.  I am blessed to be in his favor."

Jhaelin's eyes take on a more serious look, he lets Cords arm drop from his hands.

"The moon is currently waning.  It will be some time yet, but you will know for sure by the coming of the next full moon, that's fifteen days.  You will show signs of it way before then, say seven or eight days from now.  If you do, we will need to get you to Falcarragh as soon as possible.  Only a patriarch can cure the disease.  The patriarch in Falcarragh is Pfizer Merk.  I know him and he owns the temple dedicated to Heironeous there."

Jhaelin ponders a moment in thought, "Well, I am no expert on the matter.  I'll hazard a guess and say yes.  But, it may be more complicated than that.  It may be that you can only be cured before the onset of transformation.  I'll need to read further on it if I can find some texts."

"I think I know where you are going with that," the cleric says, studying Cord closely.  "We would have to cage or secure--"

Jhaelin's eyes widen with a sudden insightful thought.  Maybe that's what Elara was doing in that cellar.", he wonders inwardly.  And... Jeva, the kid, had scarring, around her ankles and wrists and back.

"--erm, would have to cage her somehow and transport her to Falcarragh."

Aris, like Illiana seemed content to be done with conversation. She has a different opinion than Illiana had in terms of the female, but can also not be sure that Illiana could tell the difference. To her, everything seemed black and white. Truth or lie. Good or evil. In Aris'ta's experience, there was no such line, only a blurred haze.

She quietly stumps over to a flat area within the hut, sits down cross-legged, and closes her eyes.

Jhaelin takes a look at the various herbs Lann has gathered.  The crushing of these has produced a tincture.  It seems well prepared, but upon closer inspection finds that one of the "herbs" the elf used is toxic.

Looking at Cord, he shakes his head and picks up the suspect dried herb, "Lann, you may want to try that again if you have any of the wolfsbane left. This is an ash-creep cluster grass pod and will make one very weak (-4 STR/-4 DEX). You could used that on a weapon against these kobolds."

Jhaelin doesnt see any more wolfsbane on the small alchemist table.

Jhaelin takes a small keg, an old barrel actually, that looks like it was used to hold grain.  He puts it just outside where rainwater can collect.  He wasn't sure how much he could get, but by experience, he knows they need to replenish their water any way they can.  He has heard of a spell granted some priests... he will have to pray on it and receive Heironeious' guidance.

Once that is done, he begins his meditation and prayers.
