Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
Seeing the church doors shut with a chain, Kaz wanted to save his teammeates just like the others, even if they annoyed him a bit. Hopping out the van, Kaz got an idea to try something. "Alright, let's try this." said Kaz as he pulled out his sword and fired it up with fire, the blade looked like fire was surrounding the blade as if it was part of the blade. Bringing the blade down on the chain, Kaz was gonna try to cut/burn through the metal.

OOC: 06:51, Today: Kaz Striker rolled 3 using 1d10.  Breaking Metal.

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
A blade of fire was raised above Kaz's head, and with a swift motion, the searing swipe clashed with the chains, blasting sparks of hot embers all around!

It wasn't a clean cut, but the chain was red hot and melting from the attack, and soon, the chains melted and collapsed onto the ground, freeing the church doors to be opened if someone pulled on it.

Anxious instill in Ruan's mind rapidly after seeing his tanto flew out.

"Must I cut my leg to save myself and summon a fucking imp now? No no no no..."

Ruan went back to the altar and see if he's able to turn off the switch and hope for the best.

OCC: rolled 2 using 1d10.  turn off switch of ventilation .

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
Ruan collapsed to his knees, dragging and crawling towards the switch. He couldn't do it anymore, he was far too weak. The poison was in his body, and he couldn't take more. His nerves flared up and burned him from the inside, the pain was simply unbearable; or atleast, it would have been if he were an ordinary man. Ruan powered on, resolving to survive. But in the end, he still couldn't reach the switch. This was the end for Ruan.

At that moment, the church doors opened, revealing Virgil standing at the entrance.

You all smell a strong almond scent, and a sudden shortness of breath. In the distance, on the altar, you all see a kneeling Ruan, with skin pink as a peach.

OOC: Someone can make a Mind test to see if they recognise the gas, or whatever else you guys think of

A portal emerges right next to Ruan, but still requires him to move into it. As the portal opens, you notice the almond smell intensifies as the air from within the church seeps into the van.

OOC: If you can score a 5 or above with a Mind test (including modifiers), you will identify the gas

As the smell intensified inside the van, Ji-Eun forced herself to stay calm and analyze the situation. Panic leads to high heart rate, high respiration rate, and therefore more gas exposure. She closed her eyes and took a cautious and slow whiff of the gas.

OOC: 21:10, Today: Kim, Ji-Eun rolled 10 using 1d10+1 ((9)).

Kim took a moment to identify the gas. Her mind briefly wandered back to a documentary she remembered watching, or perhaps had just passed by at the right time to catch a good glimpse. The almond scent, a pink Ruan in the church. It was characteristic, and something which immediately rung a bell in her head.

The documentary about the Nazi camps, there was no doubt, Kim was currently inhaling Zyklon B!

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
Once the lightbulb went off in her mind, Ji-Eun instantly shared her knowledge with the rest of the group: "Guys, I think this is Zyklon B, which is hydrogen cyanide. Ruan probably has cyanide poisoning, and I doubt we have the right treatment in this van. We need to get him to a medical practitioner, unless any of you have any other experience or knowledge in this field."

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
Kaz waved off the slight burns on his arms as it appeared on his arms after he was done breaking the metal. Glad with the results Kaz as about to brag until Kim noticed the gas around them. Zyklon B.. the thing that killed so many people.. he thought as Kim and Virgil, voiced there concerns. Keeping his mouth shut as to not breath to much of it in, Kaz whipped out one of the swords again. "I will get him, I got the best chance I think." said Kaz quickly. Focusing on a different element Kaz's blade started sparking as it filled with electricity from his mana. "Electric purifier will hopefully help me get to Ruan and get him into the portal." said Kaz as he sprinted in, using the electricity bounce off his sword and into the gases to help at least purify some of the air. Heading straight towards Ruan and the portal that was next to him.

21:05, Today: Kaz Striker rolled 10 using 1d10.  Electric Air Purifier.

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
"Useless. Useless, useless, useless."

You find yourself in the darkness, your eyes unopened, yet you stare into the distance.

"Foolish whelp. The Voidfather is not pleased, Ruan Kage. Such an act, brazen and careless." You feel a grip around your body, imposing and sharp. "Let it be known that such... incompetence, happens once again, I may be sent to end your foolish crusade sullying the name of the Voidfather. Precise, covert, and fearful. That is how we act; you acted like a child, clumsy, and pathetic. Do not repeat your mistakes, child. Lest I..."

The grip tightens and you feel your spine exiting your body, cold and forced.

"Rylthos, Duke of the 7th Void, end your games in the name of our Voidfather."

You feel the grip toss you into the void, and you fall upwards. Your body and senses dulling, your mind, going blank. Death, approaching.

Kaz's sword sparked with power, and a reverberating hum rang around him. Kaz walked in, and those outside could see an odd halo around him, a refraction of light and energy which surrounded his form.

Kaz sprinted in! As he did, sparks of air popped around him with a puff while the halo of energy around him protected him. Kaz slid and crouched next to Ruan, immediately tossing him into the portal and jumping through the portal himself.

Ruan and Kaz landed in the van, rocking the van's suspensions as the portal closed. Inspecting Ruan, he was unconscious, and pink. You could see he was abnormally flushed, his skin red and weak.

"Damn it! Looks like I'll have to use my Healing Foam on him! He doesn't look like he'll last any longer!"

MacCormack shoved her arm to the back of the van, clumsily spraying a stream of greenish foam onto Ruan's face.

"Ruan should be fine as long as the Healing Foam is administered. Don't worry MacCormack, I'll have a new can for you." You hear Dennu's voice over the telepathic link. "But now we've got to act fast, whoever that's causing trouble in Cozad was planning to take out the whole room of church goers tomorrow, which was prematurely triggered by Ruan here. In a way, Ruan just saved a good amount of lives here in Cozad. But nonetheless, make sure he doesn't wander off alone again."

Ruan coughed and a tuft of the foam shot up into the air, slowly descending from the roof of the van. MacCormack slumped into her seat in relief as Ruan groggily wiped the foam off his face, feeling better as the foam absorbed the cyanide within his body.

OOC: Ruan is healed, however still groggy and weak for now.

"Be vigilant, team. From having interrogated the man here, it seems that the one responsible and the one here aren't linked, and they don't seem to be a hivemind either. It seems that they relay information to each other through mundane means, and they are NOT doppelgängers. Doppelgängers are a single entity who replicates many, but here there are many copies of the entity replicating a single subject, and this one here is separate from the main entity. Like a leech cut into two, except there is a "main" half of the leech, so to speak."

"And as you've seen yourself, they can also split and merge themselves even further at will, but that seems restricted to the "copy" they are. From what he told me, it seems that only the 'main' entity can create 'copies'. Either by having the 'main' entity claim a life, or..."

You hear Dennu err, and a hesitation to the next bit.

"Having someone kill the 'main' entity. This is why there is now a second Ruan around the town, because Ruan had 'killed' the 'main' entity, resulting in creating a renewed 'main' entity and a new 'copy' of Ruan. You can guess my concern, right? It's hard enough as it is, but now it seems that attempting to kill the source of it all makes it worse."

The squad was silent for a moment in thought, before Dennu underlined what you all needed to do.

"The Cemetery, that's his base of operations." You see MacCormack evaluate your expressions. "We need a plan to take him out, without killing him."

That cold surrounding but warmth sensation for Ruan.
"Am I dead?" he let out a sigh.

Suddenly a voice echoes in his mind, he recognize who he was, a great vassal of the Voidfather, Rylthos.

Like a father lecturing a child, Voidfather didn't even summon itself to see him, Ruan was suffering, his soul is in pain.

Ruan couldn't argue because he knew that what he done was unacceptable, countless of cycle fighting and repeating and with this failure.

"Humiliation of mine unforgiven, redemption will be my resolve, I heed thy words my lord."

As such, Ruan tries to surface back to reality as soon as possible.

OCC:Ruan Kage rolled 9 using 1d10.  wake up.

grasping his first air, though visually blur, he utter:"I live once more."

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
Ji-Eun felt an energy like no other course through her veins as Kaz entered the chamber where Ruan was held. Her hair stood on end and the air around her looked so fresh she admittedly breathed in literal shock. Despite thinking that cold would be a better choice for slowing down the movement of particles, in her lightheaded daze she forgot what skills Kaz even had as she sipped the fresh air after her glancing breath of the toxin. The same static shock brought her to her senses, her mind unusually wired and frenetic. She heard Dennu's messaage and all she could offer was a paltry Any thoughts now, team?

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
"Our choices are fairly obvious at this point, either we move to knock out or incapacitate the main target, or we run away with our tail between our legs and regroup to try again at a later date." Virgil spoke. Kaz's move had been unconventional and poorly-thought out, lacking in elegance and finesse, but he had made it work, which was good enough for Virgil.

"Since I'm guessing that MAGI won't take too kindly to retreating from this, I suggest that we move as one unit, so that the dopplegangers can't confuse us. As that one unit we should comb through the cemetery until we find the 'main' entity and then beat him into submission - non-fatally of course."

Kaz landed in the van with Ruan, taking in a deep breath while moving back to let them heal Ruan. Although Kaz's hand started to tense up and it continued up most of his arm. Feeling a the nerves temporarily go haywire from the backfire from his abilities, Kaz just tried to concentrate on something else. Hearing that if you kill the main entity it will change, so they had to take it out without hurting it. "We could always immobilize the thing, since knocking it out we can't really keep the thing like that forever. Is there anywhere we could put him permanently once we hopefully capture him?" asked Kaz as he considered what to do with the others.

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
"Hmm."

Dennu thinks out loud in the psychic channel.

"I'm not going to lie, I have never encountered an enemy like this before. Your guess is as good as mine."

Dennu was silent as the team had their say in the conversation, listening in thought. Then Kaz mentioned restraining it somewhere permanently, and Dennu had a say of his own.

"Hold on, I think there might be a destination to capture him permanently, and non-lethally. MacCormack holds the key."

"Huh? How?"

"You could throw him into the Party Van. Mana is not infinite, it runs on finite power source, in your case, it's your health and mental state, if you die or go crazy, that's it, your powers are gone; trust me, I've seen both." You hear a pause, as if gauging your thoughts. "You trap him in there long enough, and he'll eventually expire. Given the Mana signature is stationary and large, it seems like his source of Mana is planted somewhere in this town, he needs that source to survive. Take it away, and he should eventually wither away, like a dry flower."

"But that's just a suggestion, and something which may turn out entirely wrong if I wrongly deduced any of the many key aspects of how the entity may or may not work."

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
Ji-Eun thought about what Dennu said and nodded her head quietly. That indeed would be the best option, if it is an option at all. "That would be ideal. Our team is large enough that if we identify the source of the Mana, perhaps one of us can steal it while the entity is distracted by another member, especially if we use Abigail's portals. Also, the cemetery is a wide open space, right? That is perfect for my weapon. I could set up in some high location once again. If worse comes to worst, I could shoot the source of the Mana as well."

Ji-Eun then looked at Ruan, who seemed to be looking much healthier already. "Ruan, how are you feeling?" she asked, and with a smile added "Are you ready for another chance at this thing?"

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
"Ah, right, of course! That's a brilliant tactic Kim. Given if my deduction of how the entity works is right, of course."

While Dennu sounded his usual self, he was feeling slightly embarrassed, for his plan only ever considered bringing the entity itself into the Party Van. Stealing the source of Mana would be a much more simpler, safer, and effective plan, and he felt relatively stupid for having not thought of that.

"Ah yes, Ruan, how are you feeling? Don't wander off alone again, who knows how bad your luck is."

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
Ruan was glad to see those familiar faces in the van at least.
A few moment of silence gazing at nothing, Ruan was trying to recollect his usual self by meditating..
"Those words O' lord had said serve as warmth warning.. I can't fail this time.."

Back to reality, Ruan pushes himself up and he felt slightly better.

"Whoever tended me, I'm gravely in debt for your kindness..."

"In response to Kim and Party Van, I never felt more alive than before.. give me sometime I barely just got healed.. it will be delightful to give me the status of the current objective for now."

Mission details was retold once more and Ruan closed his eyes gently... still agonizing.

Ji-Eun nodded as the current mission was retold to Ruan, absorbing every detail once more, and somewhat proud that she had contributed to the potential strategy. However, given how things had been unfolding up til now, it seemed very likely that plans were secondary to quick thinking and reactions. She kept this in mind.

"Well, let's get a move on it then, shall we?"

Re: Chapter 1: The New MAGI Recruits
The van starts up and soon you are all moving towards the cemetery. As MacCormack drives, cop cars speed past you, towards the school, where you had your earlier encounter with the enemy.

"Heads up gang, police presence." MacCormack remarks.

"Well, it was expected, Kim's gun isn't exactly silent. This may present a problem at the cemetery, best to keep your gunfire to a minimum- wait, no, everyone keep your actions to a minimum. Get too loud or attract too much attention, and it may spell trouble for us all here."

Driving away from the cluster of buildings in the core of the town, you drive a distance with only road and snow around you before you arrive in an isolated area, surrounded by sharp intimidating steel bars fencing the area. The gate was large and imposing, topped with spearhead looking ornaments which topped the rest of the fence as well. Within, you see tombstones and statues, standing erect amongst the blanket of snow that had been easily 10 inches or so.

"Uh, problem; Kim. There aren't any buildings near this place, no high places really."

Looking out the window, and from what you saw on the way here, she was right, you drove quite a while without seeing a building on the way here.

"No, actually, Kim, you can camp up on the roof of the mall if you're confident in your ability to shoot a gun. The approximate distance from there is... hold on let me check the map..."

OOC: Same image as before, just to remind you the scale and general position of things. You are south of the cemetery, on the road.

"800 metres. But that's not to say that's an easy distance, no, it's far from an easy shot. Not to mention, you're not exactly an experienced shooter, you've only shot at close-medium range and your further shots were in a controlled environment. Here, weather conditions aren't on your side, visibility is slightly more obscuring and wind speeds seems to have picked up from earlier today. That affects everyone, but more so to you if you're playing at a distance."

"As for the rest, what is your plan here? What I know is that the source of Mana, and possibly the 'main' entity, is in there. I don't know the details. There's a caretaker's hut in there, could possibly be where the 'main' entity or the Mana source is; there are also mausoleums, which are scattered around the cemetery. Mana source might also underground, who knows. Mana signature is too saturated in the environment to pin point it, so you might very well just walk over it and not detect a significant increase in Mana readings. Not to mention, what do you intend to do when you encounter the entity? Assuming you're splitting up, you're either going solo all around to cover the fastest ground, or double up. Either way, you need to figure that out, especially if you're going solo all around."

OOC: From earlier events, you all now gain a level! Remember to update your inventory if you've changed anything.

"Well, not to sound like I'm too keen to save my own skin, but perhaps Abigail and Kaz can move together using her portals to comb over the cemetery, perhaps even Ruan if he's feeling up to it. If you find the target, then Abigail can portal Ji-Eun and I to the scene, or perhaps deposit us somewhere that we can control the situation from a distance."

"Considering that my melody was able to restrain the creature the first time, hopefully I can repeat my feat while the rest of the team distracts him, allowing us to take it into custody."
