For here is where we meet and here is where we start

Spring had come early to the Eastern Territory, it is both a blessing and a bad omen for the tense stalemate between the Eastern Territories and Wolfen Empire.  Even though the winter had been mild, the Generals on both sides had kept their skirmishes to a minimum.  Not wanting to tax their supply chains and soldiers more then was needed.  Now as the last of the spring rains have begun to dry off and farmers can be seen tilling and planting their crops.  All in hopes of harvesting early and hopefully a bumper crop.  All the while military dispatch riders with escorts thunder up and down the country side delivering messages to the town's and city's across the Eastern Territories.

The City of Wisdom known to many as The Heart of the Territories is bustling with newly arrived goods and news.  Information hawkers cry out the latest news and gossip.  Windows and doors are open as housemaids finish up the spring cleaning, some as ambitious as to have baked goods cooling on the sills out of reach of the young kids running around after being stuck inside for some of the colder months.  All the while the Green Men can be seen patrolling the city proper making their rounds, stopping to help a travelers with directions or guide some of the stumbling bar patrons on their way.  From the inns and pubs laughter and a occasional bards songs can be heard.  It is a little of what you see and hear as you arrive mid morning and walk the streets of Wisdom.

After catching wind in your individual travels that an organization known as The Circle of the Scroll has requested the aid of a skilled adventurers to form a party you headed to Wisdom making good time due the favorable weather conditions.  So good in fact that it is two days before an apparent interview process at a Mansion known as Lake Hurst to the locals is to take place.  To see what individuals may be up to the task at hand.  So why not enjoy the city a little while your here.

Ronan didn't enjoy traveling so much, at least not without a purpose.  He at least had a purpose to make his way to Wisdom, but it didn't make him any less grumpy.  He did, however, breath in the fresh aroma of freshly baked goods, something he had not smelled or had for sometime.  He took a healthy sniff and allowed for a second to smile as he closed his eyes, not wanting anyone to see he quickly returned to his gruff demeanor and moved on to find a pub with suitable ale and bread, and maybe even some meat.

The war pony he rode needed a rest anyway.  Tethering his trusty steed, Horus, to a post outside the nearest pub he sauntered his way in.

As she rode through the City of Wisdom Verna thought about her situation. Being sent on a fact finding mission was essentially a way to send Verna into semi exile.

Upon reaching a pub she dismounts her horse. The woman is apparently not a gentle member of her gender. Verna is wearing a suit of chain mail that covers her torso, arms and at the waist becomes a knee length skirt of chain mail. Her feet are encased in knee high leather boots. Across her back is a long bow and quiver. On her left hip is a saber sword. On her right hip are a dagger and two throwing knives. Her riding horse has full barding and in addition to the saddle there are two saddle bags. Behind the saddle is a rolled up tent and bedroll.

She ties up her horse and makes her way inside the pub.

In reply to The Storyteller (msg # 1):

Thilo arrived from the north traveling from Haven, he had encountered very little in the way of trouble due to the high traffic of moving cargo and soldiers.  The worst he suffered was the occasional stare and questioning from passing fellow travelers, silly questions like how were his travels and how were the road from where he came.  Thilo would reply in a short manner and be on his way leaving the kind but annoying folk and be back to his travels and thoughts.

Passing through the north gates just as they are opened at dawn Thilo is stopped ever so briefly by the gate guards.  They ask his business but quickly bid him his leave when they find he has business at the Tri-Arcanum and point him in the direction.  Thilo takes his leave and heads to the Tri-Arcanum.  It was time that he belonged to a guild and who better then one of the most powerful in the east.

Kit sat in the back of the pub in the shadows just watching.  She leaned back in her chair and kicked up her feet onto the table casually crossing them as she just watched taking in the demeanor and character of the patrons.  Her all black clothing blended well in the shadows, and you probably wouldn't notice her unless you were trying to look.

For here is where we meet and here is where we start

The Faded Flame is an old established, a three story inn built of large field stone and covered in a faded red plaster.  The sign over the main entrance was made from wrought iron and is a large circle with the outline of a fire set in the middle off to the right. From outside it looks welcoming, grand even if the the out side has seen some weathering.  It is located between the Tri Arcanum and Lake Hurst where you are to be in a day and a half.

As you enter the tavern through the heavily used, metal door, you're welcomed by a feeling of comfort and the smile of a passing waitress who directs you to take any table you please.  Things are just getting going for the day and someone will be with you shortly.
A Dwarven bartender is engaged in a conversation with a small group of Green Men, but still manages to give you a polite wave.

Large wooden beams and finely crafted stone pillars support the upper floor with decorative lights attached to them. The walls are swarmed with flags and banners of all sorts and sizes. Some are from nearby towns or provinces, others from the far corners of the world and some are clearly from monster races.

The tavern itself is mildly busy as lunch is approaching. Soldiers seem to be the primary clientele here, which could be seen as a bad sign, though you're sure it's not. Several long tables are occupied by several smaller groups of local people. The other, smaller tables are also occupied by people who seem to be close with the owner, though they happily welcome others among their midst. Some of the stools at the bar are occupied, though nobody seems to mind more company and would probably welcome the company over lunch.

You have hear rumors of this tavern in your travels, supposedly it's famous for something, but you can't remember what for. Though judging by the soft laughter, cheering and overall enjoyment of everybody, it's probably the people themselves who make this tavern famous. You manage to find a seat and prepare for the day and for what will undoubtedly be a relaxing evening after a long journey.

In reply to Verna Hudson (msg # 7):

The waitress takes note of your order of wine and explains that lunch is thick slices of roast with or with out gravy served with a side of garden vegetables and a small loaf of bread.  It is quite a robust meal, but the smell of passing plates indicates the cook is talented.  She asks if you would like a plate or that was to much the kitchen could put together a plate of some jams, cheese and bread.

Your consistent looks at some of the soldiers with in the inn and from what you can remember as you entered Wisdom indicates that they are Dominion Soldiers.  Men and Women who serve in the Eastern Territories coalition army as stated by The Charter of the Dominion.

As Ronan entered he was pleased with the smells of meat and bread.  He made his way to an unoccupied table taking note of the occupants.  When the waitress comes up he gruffly orders, "Lady, some meat and potatoes, and the largest golden ale you've got." with a grunt as thank you.  Some unintelligible grumblings followed as he returned his attentions to scanning the room.

Kit rocked quietly in her chair as she took note of the new arrivals.  She drank a local delicacy drink, root beer, which was non-alcoholic.  She felt it dulled the senses to consume copious amounts of alcohol, but she didn't mind when the rich and dumb did it -- making her own job easier.

For here is where we meet and here is where we start

Korin stumbled almost as much as he walked at this point leaning heavily on his spear. His horse had been ridden near to death close to three weeks ago. He is wearing custom leather armor covered by a fine leather duster type cloak, a wide brimmed hat atop his head and shouldering a large pack. His once fine garments are scuffed, soiled and covered in a thick layer of road dust. Stopping at the threshold of the Faded Flame he takes his hat off revealing a young boyish face and a mop of sweat soaked curly brown locks.

He could be called handsome but his near constant scowl lessens his looks. After beating off as much dust as he can with his hat he enters looking around for a table he sees they are all filled with at least one patron. Not wanting to sit at the bar on a stool he makes his choice between a fiery haired dwarf and some kind of lady knight. At seventeen years old he is brimming with confidence regarding his knowledge of the opposite sex. "May a weary traveler share your table my lady.. er Ser." He asks in a polite tone but immediately sits without waiting for an answer. Dropping dusty gloves on the table he situated his pack close near his feet. Like some foppish young lord he raises two fingers and waves over a serving girl, though with pieces of straw sticking in the back of his hair he looks silly doing it.

"Bring me water, wine, two eggs poached, ham and toasted bread with honey. Oh and jam if it is seasonal.  A hot towel would be divine and I will require a room. Something with a door and a window to the outside of you can manage. Korin spares the serving girl a glance and then fishes a 20 gold piece from his purse and sets it on the corner of the table.  Rubbing at the grime on his neck and throat. He offers Verna a well practiced smile. "You'll have to forgive me. I have not been living well and I detest filth more than some around here apparently."

Verna tells the serving girl that the lunch platter will be just fine. She keeps an eye on the soldiers to see if any had taken note of her, while Verna was not wearing any House sigil her outfit could still recognize whom she had fought for. Hopefully they wouldn't notice and if they did maybe they wouldn't care.

Korin looks at Verna through bleary slightly suspicious eyes. "My name is Korin. Pleased to make your acquaintance. I'm just out seeing the world, nothing too exciting. I ran across some disreputable types and lost my horse and my best friend in the process. I've been afoot the last few weeks and came to Wisdom to seek... well, wisdom I suppose. My friend and the horse were not one in the same by the by." He smiles at her thinking his little quip was quite clever. "Most recently I was enjoying a respite at a local farm and the farmers son made me aware of an organization called the Circle of the Scroll here in Wisdom. Apparently they need talented people. I am talented people and in need of funds so here I am. How about you Lady Knight?

Drugar has been in the city for about a week seeing the sights & partaking in the local cuisine. He came to visit a friend he had met in the Western Empire who happens to be a professor at the academy. Spending another day checking out Wisdom and getting a bit hungry he heads to The Faded Flame where some of the locals told him about the food.

Entering the pub I will head over to the bar to find a seat.  Once the waitress comes by I will give her a tip & my order. “Good afternoon I would like a plate of whatever is cooking that smell’s so good and a mug of dwarven spirits. This is for you little lady handing her a gold coin, if you don’t mind and can keep my mug full until I am done I will have more for you.” Once the food and drink come I will give thanks to Belimar, eat and people watch.

The young serving girl gives Ronan a wry smile at his comment.

"Well Sir this is not as you can tell an establishment of that type and we would prefer if you do find an individual to suit you specific needs that you be discrete when you bring the lovely lad back here.  Oh dear did I say lad I meant lass Sir.  If you will excuse me I need to wait on some other tables.  Myself or someone will be by to keep your pitcher full should you wish."

Darting off upon Ronan's reply the server returns to the kitchen carrying a large platter that clearly has multiple orders on it.  She stops by Drugar's table placing the food in front off him giving him a polite nod of the head and then stops by some of the other patrons delivering their food.  Finally just as Verna is finishing up her answer to Korin the server delivers both their orders and another server brings the drinks.

"I do apologies Sir, Miss." A subtle curtsy to both  "Mr. Kozzan, that would be the Inn keeper apologizes, he didn't schedule the other server till later.  So we are a touch behind, if I may ask we are filling up quickly today will you be staying the evening and will the Sir and Madam be in the same room?"  It was clear that the server means no ill will just going about her duties.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

"I'm tellin yea that is the Lass over there, I was there to see it with my own eyes."
It is a middle age man, of strong build, his face kind but worn with a well groomed full beard and short cropped hair, heavily salt and peppered.  He had noticed his voice had carried over the sound of a busy inn and trailed of quietly so only his companions could hear him.

"Aye your full of shit as always Drust, there is no way that happened as yeah tell.  Your daft again of becoming some noble lord or some horse shit like that.  Have another drink with us before we go on shift and let it go."

The voices of the other Dominion Soldiers can be heard over the din of the lunch rush.  The group of five of them can be heard discussing something rather intently.  They were leaning with there backs against the bar, they were able to see everyone one in the main area.  So it was impossible to know who they were speaking of.  The Barkeep was just coming up behind them with five more pints that the second soldier had called for.

"Here you are boys, another pint for the five of yeah.  Now pay up Harman before you go on yer shift cause if yeah don't I'll be sending one of the lasses to tell the Captain that you and your boys are havin a couple before  your shifts.  I don't care that yeah start later, yeah need to be sharp out there.  And why on Northern Gods are yeah given Drust a hard time again."

"Drust is flappin his gums about some battle he was in and something he saw."

It was a soldier named Harman that doing the talking about Drust.  The barkeep turns his head to Drust.

"Now boy, yeah got this dwarfs attention, whatcha goin on about and don't pay no mind to the likes of Harman.  We both know the only battle he has fought is to keep his cock in his pants when he see's Miss Elison coming towards him."

The other three soldiers and Drust barley keep their brew from spewing from their lips, while Harman seems non impressed and takes a long pull of his ale.  Some of the other patrons let out a laugh also.  You can see Drust turn and lean in, his voice low, now only the dwarf bar keep would be able to hear.  A couple minutes pass and Drust and the barkeep pull back, you can see them exchange some words and Drust turns takes a breath and heads to were Verna and Korin are sitting.

"Ummmmm Madam, well uhhmmm, Miss, I was talking to the boys tellin em about a battle I was in and a archer I saw there who did some pretty crazy shit.  I heard tell she was knighted and I was wondering if you would tell the boys and Mr. Borsok the tale of that battle."

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

As soon as the food and drink arrives Korin wastes no time draining the mug of water like he is in a chug-a-lug contest. After catching his breath he takes the wine and sniffs it swirling the glass slightly. He begins to sip the wine when Verna raises the possibility of sharing a room causing him to sputter and choke slightly.

"As the the lady suggests separate rooms would be preferable. However, I have been sleeping under bushes and in haylofts for the last few weeks so I'm agreeable to any arrangement that puts a roof over my head."

Once the server departs Korin pauses as if to say something then seems to think better of it and instead sets about devouring the first real meal he has had in a good while. It is notable though that he does so with the manner of one who has had at least some training in proper etiquette. Engrossed in his dining experience  Korin seems oblivious to the other patrons though his eyes do cast furtive glances at the door and back over his shoulder every so often. It is during one of those backwards glances he notices Durst heading towards the table he is sharing with Verna.

With his left foot Korin scoots his travel pack further under the table and places his fork on his plate. Trying to look casual he crosses his right arm against his chest the fingers on his hand curl into an odd configuration with thumb and index finger crossing over each other and the remaining three sticking straight out towards the oncoming man. Once Durst starts talking Korins posture relaxes and he touches the corners of his mouth with a napkin before continuing his meal. He does offer Verna a raised eyebrow showing that he too is interested in hearing this tale.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

After the serving girl left, Verna ate her food and without much manners. The larger pieces were stabbed by her dagger held by he right hand and held up so she could eat off the dagger. The smaller portions she ate with the provided fork, held by her left hand.

As the man called Durst told his story, Verna took notice, but said nothing to identify herself as the woman he was pointing at. It wasn’t until Durst talked to her directly that she acknowledged his presence.

Durst:
"Ummmmm Madam, well uhhmmm, Miss, I was talking to the boys tellin em about a battle I was in and a archer I saw there who did some pretty crazy shit.  I heard tell she was knighted and I was wondering if you would tell the boys and Mr. Borsok the tale of that battle."

“Let me finish eating” She then looked at Korin with a smile across her face. “You better finish your meal too.” Verna then finished off the last few bites of her meal. She  washed these last few bit down with her glass of wine, and then proceeded to belch loudly.

“Ok Durst so you say you were at the Battle of Cathar? Were you fighting for one of the Lords present, or the Dominion soldiers sent to fight alongside us?” Verna didn’t bother to wait for an answer before continuing. “About two years ago the Wolfen sent an Army into the northern part of the Eastern Territory. The northern lords combined their forces to destroy the invading army. The Dominion even sent a few companies of men to assist.”

The red haired woman looked around to find that quite a few people in the establishment had stopped to listen to her story. “So the Battle of Cathar was going quite well for the Lords of the North and the Dominion soldiers sent to reinforce us. A Dominion Company of was assigned to secure the left flank. I’m not really sure what happened since I was loosing arrows at any Wolfen I saw armed with a bow. Not too sure how many I killed but none of them managed to get a shot off at myself, My Lord and his son. Anyhow the whole left flank collapses and the Dominion soldiers were running away.” There was disdain in Verna’s voice as she spoke of the Dominion soldiers. "I launched arrow after arrow into the horde of Wolfen, who were cutting down the fleeing Dominion soldiers. Our own soldiers stood up to fight the Wolfen as they were overrun but were given quarter and dragged off to be taken prisoner.”

“By this time I was out of arrows but pulling the occasional arrow from a body every now and then. It was pretty much everyone fighting for themselves. My lord’s son took an arrow to leg, and he and several others were surrounded, but fought as best they could. I led several men, well they were really peasant boys, none of whom older than 13 or 14 to break through the encirclement. We broke through and I dragged My Lord’s son to safety.”

“Anyhow the battle kinda proved the rumor that Dominion soldiers must get their cock and balls chopped off before joining up. Of course if they hadn't ran most would still be alive today, shoving sticks up their asses for sexual pleasure.”

Ronan didn't stop eating and drinking, but did keep an ear out as the woman was a approached and a story, obviously prodding at the Dominion soldiers present, was unleashed.  He ate a little faster to be sure every morsel was eaten and the last of his golden ale was finished.  He let out his own hearty belch before gathering his belongings and bringing his warhammer to rest between his stout legs.  He had no dog in the fight, but he wasn't about to let a bunch of men pounce on a lady, even if she was instigating it.

His uncle always used to berate him for this foolhardy sense of honor, but it was something Ronan's own father passed on to him, and it was ingrained him like he was born with it.

Korin listened with genuine interest as he eats his meal. He knows essentially nothing when it comes to military tactics or large battles and up until very recently any kind of real combat at all. By the time Verna finishes his mouth is slightly agape a partially chewed piece of ham clearly visible. He shuts his mouth and swallows blinking twice in confusion. The look on his face is a mixture of puzzlement and incredulity but he doesn't say anything he just looks up to see how Durst handles himself and of course glances over at all the Dominion soldiers to see how they respond.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

In reply to Verna Hudson (msg # 24):

As Verna started to speak the barkeep Mr. Borsok let go a quick shush to the inn, it was not just a few that were listening in on Verna's tale, it was the whole bloody inn.  Durst, Harman and the other three in their group had pulled up some extra chairs at another table to listen in.  The only sound other then Verna's voice was that of people quietly finishing there lunch and the sound of the bustling noon streets of Wisdom.  With Verna's final words the inn was in utter silence, Durst was smiling ear to ear nodding vigorously while Harman was grasping the handle of his mug so hard you could hear his knuckles crack as they tightened around the handle.  Harman half sits up putting his ale on the table a ever slight motion towards the hilt of his sword the other three rest their mug of ale also on the table, all the while Durst still is gleaming as if he has won some prize.

With a thunderous clap Mr. Borsok strikes his hands together and bellows out orders, cutting the palatable tension that Verna's clearly created with her final words.

"ALE FOR THE GUESTS AND THE REST OF LAZY LOUTS GET BACK OUT THERE AND GET TO WORK."

Borsok slides in close Verna and speaks softly so only she and Korin can hear.

"Many of us have been to battle, never forget that and with that watch that you don't lump everyone together."

Borsok turns to Harman, a strong head nod towards the door.  Harman and the other three soldiers follow Mr. Borsok to the entrance where hushed harsh words are shared and Harman storms off.

Durst stands up and approaches, the smile on his face almost disarming.

"Madam, I never caught your name after the battle and I was rude not to ask it before asking my question here today.  My name is Durst, hearing your story I apologize for bring up a memory like that and for the loss of your compatriots in that battle.  The Lord I serve, did not serve with the Dominion Army at that time.  We were pushing the center, when word came of the failing left flank, we then stopped pushing and spread the line out to the left drawing on spare man power from the right and center swinging it out.  I am sure it is no consolation, but that Commander was stripped of his rank, his lands seized and he now serves on a prison ship as a oars man.  When we got back to camp is when I heard tell of your bravery, your story has helped me keep my head in many a battle.  Well anyways thanks for your time, I have duties I need to attend to."

Giving Verna a nod Durst returns to the bar, pays his tab and heads out the door.  Later as Verna and Korin go to pay your tab you find out that Durst footed the bill.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

The rest of the day goes by peacefully the sound of the kitchen cleaning and prepping for the coming evening crowd can be heard even in the rooms ever so faintly.  Borsok can be seen darting in and out of the kitchen and bar, he clearly is a dwarf of detail.  Each of you are given a room key as the rooms have been turned down.  Each room is identical, a double size bed, an armoire which unlocks with your individual rooms keys and a sturdy wash basin stand with copper bowl and pitcher filled with cool water.  Heated water can be made available all one has to do is request it, you are told when the evening meal will be served.  The rest of the day is yours to do with as you please, should you decide to stay at the inn and rest it is uneventful afternoon and evening.
The beds are comfortable, but as you get ready for sleep there is a loud commotion coming from out front of the inn.  Due to the thick stone wall construction it is muffled and impossible to discern without going down stairs.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

Verna shrugged her shoulders at those who tried to chastise and/or console her. Of course she understood the barkeep not wanting a bar brawl to occur in his establishment and decided not to push the issue any further.

When she finds out that her meal was paid for she shows some surprise. Upon getting a room she orders up some steaming hot water to wash the grime from her body. After a short nap she wakes up for the evening meal and retires back to her room fairly early.

The commotion downstairs wakes her up. Not knowing what’s going on but not wanting to get involved in affairs that are none of her business she waits to see if she can hear anything else that might allude to what is going on. Regardless she does don her armor in the event that the commotion is something she should respond to.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

Korin lets out a tired sigh once it is obvious that the entire place isn't going to erupt into a melee. Finishing the last of his meal he politely folds his napkin and lays it on the table. Standing he retrieves his spear and backpack from the floor and performs a slight bow to Verna. "Damn lady, you really have a way with people. Safe travels and all that." Korin requests hot water for bathing and arranges to have his clothes laundered. He will also inquire about having his beat up leather armor repaired if possible. Either way he retires to his room. After performing his ablutions and daily prayers he locks up his belongings in the armoire and props a chair under the doorknob to further secure the room. He then drifts into a sleep so deep he misses the evening meal entirely. The need to urinate along with the commotion from downstairs rouses him from his slumber. Yawning he pulls on some breeches and an undershirt not bothering with boots and heads down to see if the kitchen has any food left.

Ronan relaxed, a little anyway, when it seemed there would be no fight and honor to defend.  He shook his head thinking to himself about the huge brass balls the young red headed warrior woman had on her.  Decidedly he finished his meal, had a whole additional pitcher of ale and requested a room to retire to.

Before heading to his room he made sure his mount was taken care of, at the inn's stables if they had any, or nearby if the inn had no stables of their own.  His steed taken care of he practiced movements with his warhammer in his room, careful not to break anything before washing up and getting ready for the evening meal.  As he was going to check on his steed for the evening, the commotion obviously drew his attention.  He couldn't deny his interest was peaked and he walked casually downstairs to investigate.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

All that can be heard from staying in your room is the continued sound of the muffled voices in heated debate the occasional string of derogatory cuss words being strewn about, followed by a   much deeper and calmer voice.

As Ronan steps out into the hall, he sees the young man Korin heading down the hall towards the stairs wearing only his breeches and undershirt in front of him.  As you both descend the stairs the sound is slightly clearer, you can determine that it is Borsok and some drunks who clearly have had a little to much.  There are very few patrons left in the dining area as most have gone to bed or have gone home.

With Kit going to ease the burden of muscle strained gold carrying citizens, it is the drunk voice of Harman backed up not by just the three soldiers with him earlier but four others as well that she can make out in the lantern lit streets.  They have gathered around in half a semi circle in front of Borsok.  Most of the staff is standing just outside the door of the inn watching also

"Listen Borsok you go inside and you get that dumb whore out here."
Spittle flies from Harman's mouth most landing on the ground some landing on Borsok, the only indication the Borsok may be upset is his right hand continues to clench and un-clench at his side.

"Harman I won't be tellin you again, take your boys and go get some rest.  Keep this up and the Greenmen are gonna be here in no time and you and the boys will be paying for your stupidity with time in the stocks.  And you can bet me you won't be drinkin at my establishment anytime soon or any other around this area I will make sure of that as sure as a Wolfen is hairy."

A couple of Harman's boys were taking the hint from Borsok that it was time to go, but when they went to pull Harman away he half turned and raised his fist.  Backing down they took their original spot, Harman turning and stepping in and over Borsok.

"Borsok so help me if yeah don't go get that country whelp, I won't give two goblin shits about you or the Greenmen.  I will go right through you and them and drag that whore out to the street which is where she belongs."

Harman was clearly beyond reason in his drunken state and it no doubt didn't help that some of his boys were nodding in approval.  Other home owners could be seen standing quietly in their stoops or at their windows on the second floor curious as to what was going on.  Borsok stood glaring back at Harman, after about forty seconds Borsok threw his hands up in exasperation.

"Fine you thick headed idiot, I will go see if the lass will come speak with yeah.  But you and the boys wait here, yeah take one more step towards mah Inn and it won't be the lass you will be talking with it will be me."

Borsok turned and walked back towards his Inn shooing his staff back inside clearly frustrated.
Harman had turned to his men and was talking to them no longer paying attention to Borsok.  The moment Borsok was ten feet inside the inn he signaled to a couple of the serving staff.

"Go out the back and go find the Greenmen, they need to be here as fast as they can."
With that two of them left quietly and quickly, Borsok waved another over and let out a sigh as if he was dejected.
"Go get me mace and shield, I won't be having one me guests hurt on my watch.  Place it on the bar out of sight of the door."

Borsok walks up stairs to Verna's room and knocks.  Waiting upon her reply Borsok relay's that Harman is outside with some friends and they clearly are not wanting tea.  If she would like he can tell them any number of things, such as she left or she would come out.  But his concern is that she is safe, another option is that she could leave out the back.

Verna sighed upon hearing that the commotion was about her. "How many of them are there?" After hearing that the number was not something she could deal with by herself and not wanting to cause trouble she decided that leaving out the back door might be a good idea. Then again it might not.

"Whats the chance that this Harman asshole will be willing to fight me one on one. No weapons?"

Ronan shook his head as he took the warhammer off his back and put the head down for him to lean on, appearing casual, but very much at the ready.  After all these stupid Dominion soldiers were going to try to tread on a fellow Dwarf's establishment, and he couldn't have that, plus some silly thing about chivalry and all.  Even though the lass could probably handle herself in a fight, with this many drunken goons she was bound to get hurt.  Bound by honor and his own personal code he couldn't just sit idly by, so he made ready.

In reply to Verna Hudson (msg # 35):

Borsok's eyes went wide and his eyebrows rising till they almost reach his hair line, his mouth slightly agape for just a moment.  Giving his head a quick shake.

"Lass you must of got some Wolfen fur stuffed in those ears at that battle.  He tends to do you ill and I can't be tellin yeah why as I have not the foggiest.  The thing I know though is he sure as the fire of Hades has the hots for putting a hurt on yeah."

Borsok pauses for a moment and looks at you for a moment more, takes a breath and lets out a very deep sigh.

"Well then I guess we better be going to speak with the man, maybe you can be stalling him enough that the Greenmen will be here.  If he goes for it and his boys are not men of their word I will take care of them you won't have to worry about any out side interference."

With that Borsok leads that way once your ready down the stairs, grabbing his shield and mace along the way and heads out the door.  He puts himself between you and Harman stopping about ten feet outside the inn door, putting about twenty feet between you and Harman.  A small crowd of of people have continued to gatherto find out what is going on as Harman had continued on his vulgar tirade shortly after Borsok started talking to Verna.

There seems to be no one of note other then another Dwarf Verna had seen earlier quaffing down food and a good sum of ale.  He was leaning warhammer looking rather interested in the events.

Across the way a just behind Harman's  men a women bumps into one of the soldiers who had come with Harman.  The soldier turns, looks at the women cusses her out and gives her shove, his attention so hyped up on Harman and fairly intoxicated himself that he does not notice the incredibly sloppy attempt of lightening his gold purse.

And for the moment it takes the eye to blink in the dark shadows by the buildings behind the soldiers and crowd Verna catches the faintest silhouette of a figure moving but is gone when one attempts to look again.  All attention turns to Borsok as he speaks to Harman.

"The Lady has a proposal for yeah Harman, now I suggest you hear it out, by the gods it might even be to your liking yeah daft twit."

With that Borsok steps to the side slightly giving Verna room to step forward slightly and speak but clearly be able to get into a defensive position quickly.

"Or we can have ourselves a good ol' fashioned cocksucking contest. See who can suck off the most men in an hour."

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

Borsok's head swiveled to look at Verna, his face abject horror at her statement.  An eerie silence came over he crowd as they all were looking at Harman who's body language was that of a seething rabid dog, through the silence you could hear the sound of the leather on the hilt of his sword groaning.  Slowly Harman unsheathed his sword as he spoke.

"Lady, we were just here to scare yeah a little and rough you up for what you said earlier.  Now though I am gonna make sure that I gut you like the little whore peasant that you were and always will be. Before that happens though I am gonna make sure that we run a caravan on you for days and then sell you to the Wolfen and make sure they do the same.  Then you can do as much sucking as you like."

Harman's words were seething with rage, the gathered crowd was aghast at what you and Harman were saying to one another.  Some so disturbed by the imagery and hostility of the words that they actually left and went about their ways. The soldiers that came with Harman also drew their swords, maces and other weaponry, Verna's words have clearly put them over the edge and very much onto the same page as Harman.

Korin comes out half asleep, barefoot and in his small-clothes just as things look to be turning to violence. He doesn't know Verna and damn but she has mouth on her like a pirate but this situation offends his sense of right and wrong. With a yawn and a slight waggle of fingers he casts a spell at Harmans crew. There is no fanfare, crack of lightning or brilliant fireball. In fact there is no indication that anything has happened but a circular Carpet of Adhesion spell just large enough to coat the ground at the feet of Hartman and his cohorts appears. Then Korin sits back to watch but prepares mentally to send a Blinding Flash into their midst if the aggression continues. He hopes violence can be avoided however he is prepared to fight if it comes to that.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

Harman scoffed as Verna brought her bow to bear, one of the men behind Harman brought forward a  viking style round shield.  The crest on it looks familiar to Verna but in the moment she cannot bring to mind where she may have seen it, her focus on the nocked arrow and her opponent.

"I thought you would bring your bitch bow, wolfen whore!!"

He brings his shield to bear in front of himself and charges Vern in that same moment his men fan out.

Well the four that are confused as to why their feet will not come away from the ground fan out.  The remaining six split into groups of three, Ronan had not gone unnoticed in his attempt to flank the group and one group approaches .  Ronan had put himself roughly thirty five degrees from where Verna stood and loosed her arrow over Borsok's head. The remaining three approach Borsok, they are visibly hesitant, a quick glance to Harman charging fires there drunk hearts and they close the gap on Borsok.

Verna's loose arrow sails towards Harman, almost raising his shield in time at the close distance, the arrow head glances off the edge of the shield, a tiny shower of sparks, a split second later the arrow head slices a vicious wound on Harmans face.   The arrow continuing past just missing a citizen who was watching this urban battle.

Borsok all of suddenly lets out a large laugh, hefts his warhammer over his shoulder raises his shield and approaches the three coming toward him.

(OCC.  Ronan please roll intiative; Kit you did not get the coin purse( :( ), but if you choose to engage you may get one free action then roll intiative; Korin you did catch 4 in the Carpet of Adhesion unfortunately the remaining 6 were already on the move and outside the circumference of this particular incantation.  Do you still wish to cast Blinding Flash?)

Korin seems considerably more awake now that the street in front of the inn has erupted in armed conflict. Ignoring the four with their feet stuck for now he turns his attention towards the next largest cluster of soldiers and points at them. A brilliant flash of blinding light explodes soundlessly in their midst. Muttering a quick litany praising RA he turns his focus inward. Mystic armor surrounds his body and he cocks back his arm to throw. As his arm whips forward a stone ball about the size of an orange appears in his hand and then streaks towards the nearest unimpeded soldier to him. The moment the stone is hurled Korin's arm snaps back to throw again and another round rock has already appeared in his hand. He hurtles that one at the same soldier using the mans nose as his bullseye for both throws.

With the impact of Verna's arrow against the wall of the building, throwing knives flying out of the gathered crowd and a second arrow from another unknown position flying past harmlessly.  The gathered crowd disperses and flees in fear.  What they must of thought was going to be just a show of force and posturing has turned into a all out small skirmish.  Some flee totheir homes near by others flee into streets yelling for guards, their voices echoing off the stone buildings. (Kit you will become exposed as

Harman's charge at Verna is interrupted by her quick thinking shot to his foot, his reactions whether it be maybe alcohol or the blood spatter that is in his left eye from Verna's last arrow impedes his ability to parry.  The arrow penetrating right through to about a quarter way up the shaft past the arrow head, in that same moment the three throwing knives of unknown origin embed themselves in Harman.  One in his shoulder blade, another mid back and the last one in his ham string.  The only reason for the spread out pattern is they hit as Harman fell tumbling forward towards Verna's, his shield coming loose from his grip, clattering to the cobbled street.  Harman was no longer able to continue his labored breathing as he looks to Verna with what can only be described as utter hatred and contempt and these word fail to convey the emotions.

By the hands of the Gods Ronan and Borsok end up approaching the same group of three, warhammer's at the ready.  One would think that seeing your leader fall would encourage one to quit but that was not on their minds, one splits off and heads towards Verna the other two charge Ronan and Borsok.  Ronan's opponent swings in a downward arc.

The original four who are stuck can be heard yelling and pointing in the direction of a man not at all dress for the melee that is going on in the streets.  They are directing the remaining group of three, but it is to late for them.  The most brilliant flash erupts just in front of them like a million matches lighting at once, two of them grab their faces in agony as the their eyes spasm in their skulls.  One soldier managed to avert his eyes in time and now sets them on Korin only to have his nose cavitated by what looks like bright fruit.  His face a bloody mess he sprints towards Korin, lashing out with his sword in a wide arc aiming for his upper torso.

The remaining four yell out insults and call out positions while continuing to struggle.

(OCC: Verna you have a I believe 3 actions left, Kit you are done, Myrrick you have also have 3 actions, Ronan with positioning and the soldier charging you have 2 actions, Korin you are also done, but roll for parry/dodge.)

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

In the time it takes to put the knife Harman's throat, he slips into unconsciousness from the blood loss and trauma of his wounds.  Harman's body becoming dead weight in your hands, it is clear he will be dead shortly if he is not treated soon.

The soldiers who were trapped by the carpet of adhesion start yelling insults, cries for help for Harman and directions to the free soldiers in there inability to help in any other way.  The others  who are engaged in combat are now in fully committed it will be unlikely that anyone's words who are involved will get them out of their aggressive charges.

The soldier who peeled off to attack Verna picks up his approach, long sword at the ready.  The two engaged with Borsok and Ronan continue to press the dwarves.

The half dressed Korin preforms a graceful maneuver under the swinging sword of the attacking swordsman coming up behind a couple feet behind the soldier before he can turn his charge.

In the far distance although it is hard to tell, the sound of heavy foots steps can be heard echoing off the walls.  It most likely is the city guard but who knows when they will arrive.  The crowd is gone it is only those enthralled in combat now on the streets lit by the moon light. If one could see it is only a couple people peeking ever so carefully through their windows at the skirmish.

(OCC..The soldiers are not giving up, declare your actions)

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

With Harman passing out it would be cowardly for Verna to slit his throat. So she threw the dagger in her hand at the man charging at her. Hopefully the blade would hit the man in the groin and sever his manhood from the rest of his body......

While her attacker is (hopefully) distracted by the dagger Verna, stands up and unsheathed her saber. She is ready to fight....

Korin has a brief urge to flee but resists it jumping back further to create more space between him and his attacker while making sure he does not turn his back on any other potential enemies. Korin exhales forcefully in the manner the monks had taught him and draws on his mystic reserves. He flips his left hand palm up down at waist level and steadily rises it up. His levitation spell targets the bloody faced soldier in an attempt to lift him up into the air and out of the fight. His left hand holding steady at shoulder level Korin cocks back his right and rapidly hurls three more of the magic stones targeting the heads of the soldiers facing the Dwarves and Verna.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

With the soldier's not heading Verna's wise words, Verna's dagger flew from her hand like a coiled viper, embedding itself to the hilt in the groin area of the charging soldier.  Harman's head making a gross sounding smack against the cobbled streets as Verna removed her hand from supporting it to stand and draw her sword.  The soldiers mouth opened in a cry of pain but it was evident not only by the dagger sticking out like a hardened phallus, but also the utter lack of sound from his mouth that the pain was beyond what his mind and body could handle.  The soldier passed out where he stood slumping to the ground his mouth still agape, his sword clattering to the street.  Verna now stood ready again with no opponent to face her. It was now evident that even though she had received some assistance, one on one combat would not gain you the upper hand.

Korin also was showing somewhat phenomenal combat prowess. For although the soldier manages to save verse the levitation, the time it takes him to do that prevents him from seeing the stones which hit with a even louder crack then Harman's head on the cobbled street.  The soldier tries to brace himself up with his sword as he falls to the street.  But it is to late for him as he unconscious, the soldier ending up on his knees, hands clasped to his sword, head resting against the blade almost as if he was beseeching the god's for aid.  As if to add insult to injury a arrow skewers his shoulder adding a almost artistic edge to the scene.

With a powerful downward chop at Ronan, the soldier attempts to cleave him in half. Only to have his blade smoothly deflected to the side by Ronan, leaving the soldiers right side torso completely exposed.  The sound that came next is the one that unholy nightmares are made of, as Ronan's war hammer collapses the soldiers rib cage area, the sound of it breaking cuts through the night.  Immediately the soldier coughs, a spray of blood coming forth, his breathing labored and haggard, with gurgling.  Staggering back, his eyes roll back into his head, falling to the ground out of combat. What had looked like a skirmish had quickly turned into a slaughter.

From where the daggers came out from the crowd there was no one just the flicker as if the shadows were alive and then nothing.

With two still clutching their blinded eye's and the four still stuck and unable to move it was clear to them that this skirmish was lost, the soldier who was attacking Borsok stopped mid swing and dropped his sword.  An instant visible look of depression coming over Borsok's face at the prospect of not really being included in the combat, Borsok let's out a heavy sigh walks up and kicks away the defeated soldiers sword at it finishes clattering to the street the only sound that can be heard is the moans from the injured soldiers, other then that the streets are silent.  Borsok turns to the inn and bellows out some quick orders to his staff.

"Quickly go grab some clean water and cloth, we best keep these these fools alive, till the healers come.  Also some rope to bind them."

Borsok turns to the soldiers who were caught in Korin's magic.

"Aahhhh yeah daft fools, it will be the prison ships for you lot, what's worse is yeah knew better.  Bah will serve yeah well, the army didn't smarten yeah up."

Once his staff comes back, Borsok helps to secure there hands and feet while also tending the soldiers wounds.  He remains quite throughout the process, only once in awhile directing his staff.  It is around when they are all secure that the sound of the marching feet come close and a  group of about forty men, all well equipped wearing heavy chain mail arrive.  They spread themselves out to encircle the whole group every forth one is carrying a torch lighting up the surrounding area.  If one took the time thirty of the forty are wearing green ta-bard's, these clearly were the Green men.  From the other ten two come forward, from their garb they are priests of some denomination or another.  One of the men from the remaining eight steps forward and walks to Borsok. He was not a tall man or overly large but how he carried himself you knew that he had seen war.  Two hilts shaped into wolf heads protruded from over his shoulders, what actually might be wolfen fur made up his cloak cover what was full scale mail.  The other six followed just behind him leaving the eight behind, a tall man dressed in a tattered heavy robe the cowl pulled low, carrying a staff.

"Borsok what in Algor's name are you doing with your mace and shield out.  It is time to sleeping off your good dwarven ale, not blooding your sissy inn keepers apron.  There sure as hades better be an explanation for getting me up at this hour."

Borsok stood from where he was and walked to the man who asked the question.

"Captain Gualterius, I was just about to load these gentlemen in a wagon and drop them off at your home it took you so long.  I think it might be best if you speak with the lass and lads  over there.  After I can speak with yeah."

Borsok points to those involved.

Captain Gualterius turns and looks at Ronan, Myrrick, Korin and Verna and then as with a eerie intuition, Captain Gualterius looks past the ring of soldiers into the shadows.

"Well pretty young lass why don't you join the group and help clear up what happened here, from the looks of everyone I would say the daggers belong to you."

Everyone in the circle looked around at each other wondering who Captain Gualterius was talking to in the darkness.

With the fight over, Verna retrieves her dagger, pulling it from the groin of the man without much fanfare or care that she may be further harming him. She wasn't a healer and considering the fact that if Harman and his men had won Verna would probably be raped and killed, and not necessarily in that order.

Thus when the city guard showed up Verna was standing off to the side where the Inn staff was tending to the wounded.

As soon as the fight was over Korin started to walk back into the inn and made it as far as the entrance when he realized that sneaking back up to his room wouldn't really work. Besides he has been on the run the last few weeks and is exhausted. The adrenaline dump caused by combat is wearing off as well. Korin plops down on the steps wishing he would have taken the time to put on some proper clothes.  He doesn't bother tying anyone up and he has no real first aid skills so he just sits quietly and waits for the authorities to show up. "That was uncouth in general. I had best not be jailed over this."

Captain Gualterius waits for the shadowy figure to come through the circle of soldiers a wry smile on his face.

"Don't worry girl I never would have known you were there if it weren't for some assistance"

Captain Gualterius turns to those who are tending the wounded and the rest of the soldiers who were now being restrained.

"I want those restraints tight, heal the wounded but not to where they can put up to much resistance and then bring them all to the stockades.  I want to hear the testimony of this lot before we cast any suspicion on anyone.  No one is to talk to them till I get back, I find anyone has they will be cleaning the stocks and stable with the same spoon they eat with.  And the rest of you peeking lot get to homes or I will have yeah spend a night in the stocks also."

Turning to the group of and looking at everyone.

"Now as I said earlier, how about we go inside, have a pint of Borsok's ale and one of you can tell me what in the great rift happened here.  Cause although I might seem like I am being pleasant, all I was to do tonight was escort this individual here from the Tri-Arcanum and be on my way home.  So we can do this now and you may stay in this pleasant inn or you also can stay in the stockades.  So how about it.  I know it can't be that bad cause this stumpy lump is not kicking you out."

Borsok's face turned blistering red at the stumpy lump comment and just as his was opening his mouth the Captain walk past him and grabbed him by the shoulder and guided Borsok inside all the while placing a late night snack order.  Borsok body language relaxed and he spoke some quick orders to his staff.  The six guards who were with Captain Gualterius wait till the other soldiers and healers are gone and stand guard at the door.  Inside Captain Gualterius and Borsok sit at a large table by the hearth, waiting for you all.  Upon you all sitting down he waits for someone to speak.  The dark robed man also sits at the table to the side of Captain Gualterius.

Korin was sitting on the steps of the inn arms crossed basically sulking. As the Captain went on though Korin began to think that maybe he could get out of this relatively unscathed. He was after all just coming to the aid of the owner of the establishment and some big mouthed girl. Besides he is in his underwear for the love of Ra. He figures to play the innocent young lad role. Standing up he puts on his best look of concern tinged with worry. In reality he looks to be scrunching his eyebrows together and duck-facing his lips. He makes his way inside and upon sitting takes the proffered ale. Downing a little he takes a deep breath and says,

"Sir my name is Korin and I am a guest here. I heard a commotion and came downstairs. Obviously by my dress you can tell I was sleeping. Outside there was a large group of armed men arguing with Borsok and demanding that he turn over a girl. Then Verna over there came out and insulted the drunk soldiers and when their leader attacked they all followed suit. Those of us here stood to defend the girl and Borsok. That's really all there is to it."

After the boy told his story (which was true) Verna thought it best to clear the air. She roaised her hand so the Captain of the Guard would see her. Once recognized, Verna spoke.

"Captain Gualterius, I had somehow offended some Dominion soldiers while reciting a tale of my exploits during the Battle of Cathar. Apparently some took offense to my telling of the story in a truthful manner." This next part wasn't really the full truth, but it was pretty close. "It appeared that the Dominion soldiers were wiling to storm this inn in order to get to me, so I chose to ensure that any conflict would occur out in the street, instead of inside the inn."

Captain Gualterius listens while Korin, Verna and Myrrick all tell a very similar tale to one another.  As Myrrick finish's up his testimony, the Captain looks to Ronan and Kit, with nothing quickly forthcoming from them he turns back to Borsok who just gives the Captain a salute with a mug of ale and a nod of his head showing his agreement to what was said.  Grabbing his mug of ale and taking a large draw from it, Captain Gualterius empties his mug.

"Well then your testimonies all seem to corroborate and on top of that Borsok also is in agreement."

Captain Gualterius stands up and looks to all the people at the table.

"I will be taking the testimony of the soldiers as well and I will be sending someone to speak with your staff as well Borsok.  Whatever business that you have in town I would ask that you conduct it quietly, but don't be hasty to leave Wisdom yet.  Depending on other evidence there maybe a potential of a small fine for participating in tonight's disturbance.  I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you all, but Wisdom has rules.  I will be reprimanding some guards for not informing you thus and also send someone to go quickly over those, it will hopefully prevent any other incidents from happening."

Captain Gualterius turns to Borsok gives him a nod, turns and leaves the inn, his guards following closely behind.  Borsok also stands and looks at the gathered group, a little smirk coming across his face.

"Well Lads and Lasses I would say The Faded Flame has as another tale to tell.  I do recommend that you respect the Captain's wishes but I am confident that you don't have much to worry about.  As for the fine, I will be covering that part as I will not be having my guests attacked.  Now if you will also excuse me I must be about the nightly duties and be up early in the morn."

With that Borsok also takes his leave politely giving anyone a chance to say their piece.  He also orders another round for all of you should you wish.

When Borsk mentioned he would cover the fine Ronan was relieved, although he was ready to pay for his own actions.  He clasped the much older dwarf on the back, "Many thanks and blessings brother."

Taking in each individuals appearance as they all sat at the table, listening to the words of Captain Gualterius, Thilo was some what able to ascertain each individuals talents.  The women was clearly capable with a bow, so also was the dark haired man, archers no doubt. The young man was capable in the mystic arts but was definitely no wizard, the red head was rogue of some sort maybe an assassin but the smell of death was not on her.  And the dwarf was a practiced warrior, possibly a knight for how continued to speak of honor and protecting the bow women.  But all this mattered not for he was not involved in this conflict and he had his own battles to fight, but allies may not be bad.  He would have to wait and see.  Upon Captain Gualterius leaving Thilo also stands and speaks to the inn keeper waiting for the Dwarf warrior to finish before approaching.

"I require a room with a bath master dwarf and if there is no room with a bath I require a bath area for myself and some food brought to my room.  I would also ask that no one attempts to enter the room or the bath area if that has to be the case."

Thilo spoke to Borsok in dwarvish out of respect to the inn keeper and most people did not speak dwarvish as it was a dying language.
Thilo's journey had been long and he did wish to freshen up and be left alone, perhaps it would have been better if he had stayed at the Tri-Arcanum.  But old habits die hard and inns were fairly easy places to hide.

Borsok's eye brows raised, it was not incredibly uncommon to hear someone speak dwarven around Wisdom, generally speaking though the any guests and travelers spoke elvish or eastern.  It was nice to hear the dwarven tongue spoken though.

"I have to apologize lad we don't have a bath house or any rooms with baths, there is one around the corner, due to the hour though it would be closed and the owner does not open till just after breakfast.  Best I can do for yeah is have some extra hot water brought to a room for yeah.  And despite the what may look to the opposite, you will not be disturbed in your room by any other guests or by my staff if that is your request.  I will get one of the staff to set you up in corner room it is about as private as I can help you with.  I must apologize though Sir it is late and I do have some work to catch up on before the morn arrives."

With that as Borsok goes into the back off the inn you hear some voices and a young women comes out to you.  She takes your name and shows you to your room, once there he gives you your room key and bids you a good night saying that in about one hour hot water will arrive as well as some refreshments.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

Kit having been caught staring at Verna quickly averted her eyes, finishing her bath she dried and dressed, occasionally stealing a glance.  Outwardly, it was uncertain whether it was simply admiration for the older, strong female role model, or something more sultry.

As she exited she was met by Korin who engaged her and Verna in conversation.  She thought to herself, she was not much of a conversationalist.  At the mention of the market Kit thought she could turn a profit there, but she usually worked alone.  However, perhaps there was safety in numbers as long as the others were not privy to her acquisitions.

Korin Simmat:

Kit blushed slightly not used to being engaged in such a polite manner, she seems to hold herself closely arms to her chest, hands below her own chin.  She looked at Korin bowed for a second before answering, "Uh, hello, Korin" pausing again for a second as if internally debating whether to give her actual name or not, "Kit, I mean, people call me Kit." she offers a flash of a nervous smile and a slight bow of her head in return.  Niceties are obviously not very familiar to her.

Ronan also partook of the opportunity to bathe.  It was not a common occurrence these days with all the traveling he had been doing, and it was certainly welcome.  Although he did not allow anyone to take his armor or weapons out of his sight.  Eventually he was done, and dressed himself, accepting the help of the bath house attendants to don his armor once again.  It was almost pointless to have bathed since the armor really sealed in the flavor... but it still felt good anyway.

Upon receiving the warm water with which to wash with and doing so, Thilo had spent the rest of the night resting and in meditation not only on his joining the Tri Arcanum but also his interest in the events that transpired outside of the inn.  Surely rough and tumble adventures were not in the school district just for a stay at a nice inn.  Needless were these thoughts though for the morning light had just breached the horizon and it was time to be about business.  Assembling his gear Thilo made his way to the main floor and out the door.  He will spend his day at the Library of Renown

With all those at the bath house done their hygienic's, the day was approaching high noon.  The city had greatly picked ups it pace as merchant wagons meandered down the streets, some leaving out of the city and other's heading to the south docks to catch the ferries across the river and be about their way.  The spring cleaning could still be seen going on from home to home and also the local ladies and porters going about their daily shopping chores.

Upon asking a local, the most popular market in Wisdom and the largest was called the Bird.  It ran from the North gate all the way to the south gate and in the center it ran east to west but one quarter the distance.  The name came from how it was one of the longest continuous roads threw Wisdom and was the shape a birds wing in flight.  It was a away from the docks and was well traveled as most people were going those directions.  Many manner of store was along it length from mediocre to fine Tailor's, cobblers, suppliers, sweet shops and the like.  It was not the largest market in the Eastern Territories, but it was a good deal grander then most.

Verna walked the market looking over the various shops and street vendors. She kept an eye out for a highborn ladies clothing shop. It wasn't the high born ladies clothing she was interested in tho, it was the other items they sold to only women. According to last night moon, Verna's moon blood would be upon her in a few days time.

A particular shop caught Verna's eye, the store front had a very elegant looking light green dress in the front window mounted on a mannequin.  On the same glass is the stores name written in gold filigree, naming this particular establishment "The Duchess's Cuff".  The door to the shop is a heavy hung oak door with seven heavy iron bands holding it together with three large hinges set into the stone building.  Hanging on a small hook nailed to the door in a simple sign indicating that the store is open.

Korin tagged along with Verna after leaving the bath house mostly because she hasn't told him to fuck off. It's also because he has been without any human companionship for a couple months and he is unknowingly seeking it. Seeing her stop at the store window he sees her look up at the fancy dress. In the back of his mind his mothers voice prompts him to say something polite or complimentary. Instead he says,

"Sometimes, but these places also sell good quality small clothes for women, usually in a back room where men are not allowed into." With her purpose for coming to this store known to Korin, Verna opens the door and enters the shop. She left it up to Korin if he followed or waited outside.

Upon entering Verna was approached by one of the girls working the shop, and immediately asked

With that done, Verna exited the shop. "Ok Korin, my chore is taken care of, are there any specific shops you need to go to?" As an afterthought Verna wondered if she should just take the young man to the nearest brothel and pay some whore to take care of his manly needs.

Nexxi while telling her story was pacing back and forth on the cart looking at all the shops, goose necking all over the place and quite literally standing on the drivers shoulder to look on his side.

"Look at all these shops Grudgy poo, we could shop for days here.  I bet they have some great smithy shops here where you could look for whatever it you look for when you spend all day there  just talking and hanging out and lending a hand.  You know it is very boring when you do that. The Dwarf and Goblin with wagon make it's way through the city, at a steady pace to the south end of the city towards the docks.  With the hustle and bustle of the city though and being stopped once by a Green Men Patrol you arrive at the Wisdom River District just a little after evening meal is usually served.  Before you is a throng of people waiting for ferry's to travel across to the Old Kingdom or up and down the river either to Llorn or to Lopan, though it is not very often.  And also people unloading cargo from fairy's.  The Masters of the barges can be heard shouting orders and hawking their services, while porters and other dock side workers continue to busy themselves with finishing the days work.

Many individuals again look at Dwarf and Goblin, some spitting on the ground next to the wagon as they pass carrying their cargo, disgust clearly written on their faces.

"Well Lass for sure we won't be crossing tonight and as you said I might as well take in some of the smithy's around this town or maybe there is a job or two we can take before we leave."

Sitting down again Grudge lets out a long sigh.

(Korin)
As Korin turns to leave out of the corner of his eye he catches sight of someone from his past, he is approaching the Dwarf and Goblin who still sit on their wagon.  It is not that you would really care of a dock worker walking towards potential customers.  It is that you recognize this particular individual from one of your fathers business transactions.  His name is Gabriel Kavanaugh a very successful and infamous river runner.  Your father had mentioned that he was one of the best and worked for as many as five other unique vendors up and down the rivers and had dined at the family estate on more then one occasion.  Behind him you notice two cloak individuals who appear to have just finished talking with Gabriel and are walking away into the crowd and are gone in a instant lost in the crowd.

(Grudge and Nexxi)

As you sit in your wagon deciding what to do, a man approaches with a fairly nonchalant swagger in his step, packing a tobacco pipe all the while giving you both a large fair smile.  He is dress in well kept clothes, nothing fancy but clearly he was a man with some means to care for his appearance.  Coming to a stand still just beside Grudge, he gives a quick sharp sideways glance to Nexxi a slight twitch in his eye and then his attention was fully on Grudge.

"Master Dwarf, I noticed not a couple minutes ago while I was unloading some final passengers and goods that you have just arrived at the docks.  I see that you do not carry any cargo and you don't really have the look of a porter.  No you Master Dwarf have the look of a man at arms, would you perhaps be looking to cross the river this day.  If you were I would more then be willing to do so, but I would have yeah know that it was our last run just now and we won't be going not till the morrow.  For King Hafton does not want miscreant work being done in the evening and for that I respect the man, him and his Green Men as they go about keeping the peace."

Thilo had spent the whole day at the Library of Renown, he had not realize that the day had gone by so quickly till a young librarian had told him they would be closing in an hour.  The texts and scrolls Thilo had been reading were interesting to say the least.  Information was always relevant even if it was history or even something already learned but from a different perspective.

Wishing to contemplate the information he had read, Thilo took the young librarians kind reminder and left the Library of Renown.
Walking the streets of Wisdom fairly aimlessly, taking random turns and generally not looking where he was going.  Most people gave Thilo a wide berth as his ragged clothing and body wrappings gave the appearance of a diseased beggar.  Thilo came to the conclusion after about an hour of walking that today's research was best just stored in his mind fortress under incomplete data.  Surely in the future it would tie better to some other relative information. For now it was just loose bits of this and that.

Korin:

Gabriel Kavanaugh is listening intently to Grudgebearer, as you nonchalantly feint to walk by.  Your casual interruption clearly catches him off guard and then there is a flurry of mixed emotions that only you might catch. The initial frustration of being interrupted whilst plying his trade, the quickest gleam in his eye of something known and then as fast as a viper back to a iron clad calm exterior.

"While I will be a wolfen pup's chew toy, what brings young Master Korin to Wisdom.  I had not heard word from your father or I would have prepared a small reception for you with some of the gents and ladies.  I mean not few days ago I was talking to some of the boys saying telling them of some of the festivities that your family throw's."

Gabriel looks to your side where Verna is standing.

"Well Master Korin, I spoke to soon it looks like the ladies will have to not be invited.  Who would this young madam be?"

Grudgebearer & Nexxi

A young man interrupts your conversation & laughter with Gabriel, at sometime though he seizes an opportunity to give you an apologetic bow and looks contemplative.

"A respectable inn in Wisdom well there would be plenty know doubt, perhaps where Master Korin is staying would suit your needs but I have no idea where that maybe.  I am sure he would be obliging to guide you there."

Myrrick and Thilo

Your random wanderings throughout Wisdom in the afternoon have brought you both to the busy but closing dockside.  You both find yourselves just south west on the north side of the river the cuts through Wisdom easily visible further to the north on the docks is the young man named Korin and the women archer from last night Verna.  Beside them  sitting on a wagon is a dwarf and something seems to be rolling around in the back of it.  Korin and Veran seem to be engaged in a polite conversation with a unknown gentlemen.  Myrrick and Thilo you both recognize and acknowledge each other.

"You wouldn't make me do that, you like my stories around the hearth to much"

A small chunk of apple coming out and landing in Grudgebearer's beard.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

"As she says, be it ever so terse, a true Knight and traveling companion for which I am grateful. It is a dangerous and devious world out there after all. As to my purpose here, I am seeing a bit of the world as my dear late mother wished. Making my own way for a bit as it were."

Seeing the other men approach Korin recognizes them from the previous evening and wishes he would have stayed up and made small talk at least. He decides to try and seize on an opportunity anyway.

"Ah... here are some more associates. We shared quite an adventure last evening at the Faded Flame Inn. We were afforded the distinct pleasure of meeting Captain Gaulterius of the Green Men. My apologies again for interrupting your business. I would certainly recommend the Faded Flame. The proprietor Borsok is a congenial Dwarf and helped keep us on the right side of the law. We will be retiring there shortly if any wish to follow. Mr. Kavanaugh it was a pleasure to see you again. I should be at the Flame for a few more days at least. If there are any business opportunities you might like to discuss please drop in at your leisure. My connections are currently limited however I am not without talent. Indeed, like my father, I try to surround myself with talent."

Korin will offer a very slight bow. Precisely as deep as his mother taught him for occasions when you wish to show respect but remind your audience that you are Nobility.

Korin Simmat:

At the mention of your mother, Kavanaugh makes a religious symbol and slightly bows his head slightly.

"May the gods she prayed to rest her soul.  It is good to see that you have fallen into such good company on your travels, the roads and rivers are indeed not safe to go alone.  And even the city's a civilized as they are cannot always be trusted, there is always a nefarious lot going about sinister deeds."

At the mention of Captain Gaulterius and the Green Men there is again an ever subtle flicker in  Kavanaugh's facial features which are brought to control again.

"Ahh..the Captain he is loved by the Citizen's of Wisdom as are the ever watchful eye's of the Green men and fortune favors the Simmat's as always Master Korin as the Faded Flame is one of the finest establishment's in all the Eastern Territories and Mr. Borsok is no doubt the finest inn keeper in all the east of Palladium."

Grudgebearer & Nexxi:

Turning to Grudge and Nexxi Mr. Kavanaugh demeanor was one of great pleasantry also.

"Well Master Dwarf there you have it Master Korin is more then willing to show you to the Faded Flame and as I have already said it is one finest inn's in Wisdom.  And from the looks of it you should arrive safely in the company of no finer people then Korin and these other three traveling companions.  Although you no doubt can handle yourself quite sufficiently."

Verna:
The short and curt reply catches you a wry smile from Mr. Kavanaugh.

"My apologies Madam Knight, had I known you a Lady Knight, I offer my humblest apologies to you."

Gabriel Kavanaugh takes in the lot off you and spreads his arms out to the side with hands extended.

"Well Gentlemen and Ladies, the evening has gotten on a bit and I still need to organize the last of my workers before the morrow.  And surely you wish to be about getting back to the inn and have some supper before it is gone.  Should you need a lift across the river let me know and I will surely lend a hand.  As for business Master Korin, I am not in need of dock hands and security is taken care of by the local army and Green Men.  But if something comes to mind I will surely send word to you of my need."

Kavanaugh bows to each of you politely and walks off towards a group of dock workers he can be seen through the dwindling crowd talking to men here and there as everyone is going about the days end business.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

With directions from Korin, the wagon ride is very uneventful. The streets are still some what busy but the wagon with it's passengers are barely given a sideways glance by the citizens of Wisdom who are hurrying home or to some of the local eateries.  You all arrive in short order to the Faded Flame.

As you pull up to the front of the Inn one of the night servers is making her way in.  Recognizing Verna, Myrrick and Korin she comes over and kindly gives directions to Grudgebearer to where the stables and wagon bays are, informing him of the fees.  She lets the rest of you know that tonight's menu is a dutch oven chicken pot pie with thick biscuit toppings and that one of the new guests was maybe willing to put on a bit of entertainment if the other patrons would be willing to put up with such frivolous thing, he had the odd stage name of Thracce “Snake Eater”.  The young ladies face contorted slightly into one of someone who thought snakes were very icky.  With that she gives the group a bow, turns and with quick pace scurries into the Inn.  Borsok's robust voice can be heard out the door bellowing at the late arrival of his serving girl, although no malice is heard in it.

Verna, Korin, Myrrick and Thilo
As you enter the Inn, it is brightly lit and is comfortably full, all the Patrons are either scarfing down the nights meal or already nursing a drink pacing themselves for the evening.  Fine tobacco can also be smelt as some of the customers have pipes out.

Off to the side of the hearth, a small space has been made available for the potential would be entertainer that the young serving girl was mentioning.  One of the details left out was what kinda entertainment it would be. For there was no musical instruments, stage props or anything of that nature just a space for someone to stand and allow most of the inn's guests to see without any issues.  Perhaps it was just a singing barb, a couple patrons can be heard questioning it also through mouthfuls of food.

At one of the tables is a very attractive elf, so fine the features, clothing, hair and everything else about the elf that it is obvious some of the patrons are trying to muster the courage to approach but none have dared yet and may even be confused if they should.

Borsok see's you all, quickly speaks to his helper behind the bar and then makes his way aroun it to the lot of you as you come in.

"Aye, you all look refreshed, not a bad little bath house is it, the owners been a friend of mine since I helped him with some of the plumbing on his building a couple years back.  The Captain was by this afternoon looking for yeah, nothing major just wanted to know how you were faring.  Well I must be off to help the other guests and thanks to you for bringing me more guests despite last nights troubles."

Borsok gives you all a wave and leaves, greeting others as he walks past them stopping here or there to share a word with some of the other patrons.

Grudgebearer
As you approach rear side of the inn, someone opens a gate that is large enough for you to drive your cart through.  In the stable court yard are stalls for mounts and a couple bays for carts also what looks to be a very small smithy and work shop for the most basic of repairs to wagons and shoeing of animals if needed.  Some chickens dart across the yard, on a pile a feed hay is a Rooster dozing off.  From out of the little smithy a man walks out casually a pleasant smile on his face as he approached he calmly reached out and takes the muzzle of your mule.

"Welcome to the Faded Flame, how would yeah like yer mule and wagon cared for?"

Grudgebearer noticeably relaxes as his cart comes to rest in the yard, he stands up from his seat stretching out sore muscles from sitting all day.  From being stuck at the gate due to Nexxi's mischief, the unfamiliar streets of Wisdom trying to get to the docks and then the conversation with Mr. Kavanaugh.  Mid stretch Grudgebearer realized that Nexxi was gone.  Pausing and looking around his cart Grudgebearer took note to see if anything was missing, it all appeared to be there.  She has a nasty habit of disappearing and reappearing.  But her belongings were all gone, so shrugging his shoulders he completes his stretch and jumps down grabbing his shield and warhammer.

Looking up to the inn's stable master who asked how he wanted the wagon tended and his faithful donkey.

"Just standard fair don't be spoiling the little whipper, but a clean stall and fresh water, rub him down...he don't mind being with other's if the need be.  As for my wagon, I was planning on leavin on the morrow but I think it be wise to have her looked at by the best Wainwright ye be knowin.  I also may be needing storage for some of my tools, would that be something you supply."

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

At the far end of the room, in the space where the entertainment usually occurs an elf steps from the the shadows. Thracce measures the space then turns and stands shirtless his back to the room, he slowly spins around waving his bare arms high and wide.

His pale chest heaving with exaggerated breath, his lean elven frame is well muscled and defined, his skin lustrous with slight sheen as if some oil had been applied to his skin, or perhaps it is a thin film of sweat from concentration.

From the waist down his long thin legs are covered in billowy garishly red pantaloons. feet bare.

A strange green scaled mask covers the upper half of his face. A thick strands of wild unruly red hair sticks out at odd angles from the back.

He appears to be practicing a portion of his act, his voice booms loudly and has an irritating mysterious edge to it.

“Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary like a deck of cards” he flips his hand over and a deck of cards appears  in it. He shuffles them and then tosses them in the air, they flutter in the air for a moment and then disappear. “ Or something exciting or even scary like a snake”

He opens his mouth wide and from it a long thin brilliantly green snake emerges, slithers down one arm and wraps itself around his left wrist. Its tongue flicking in and out tasting the air. Eyes black as obsidian seem to take in the whole space.

“Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... you will most likely think  it isn't.” He moves quickly across the space waving the snake at the seats and tables nearest him.

Returning to the center of the space he continues. “The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary.” Looking down at the snake he says "dance for me sweet one.” It slithers up his arm across his chest it head bobbing too and fro, circles his neck and down his chest, he extends an arm to it as it slithers and wriggles to the beat of music only it seems to be able to hear.
“Now you're going to be looking for the secret, the trick... but you won't find it.” He shakes a finger at the room and his head in the negative.

“And I think you don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. You won’t clap…oh no not yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough of a trick; you have to be able to bring it back. “ he holds the snake up and back into his mouth it goes, seemingly much too large and long  to fit in there whole, he chews it up as it goes in, blood and gore runs down his cheeks. Once it is swallowed he takes a glass from the table top “May I?” slurps down some mead to wash the bits of the thing away. He wipes his face clean with a nearby cloth.

Returning to center, he begins again. “That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part of all, the part we call "The Prestige".” He spins around arms held wide as he slowly turns to face the room again.

He opens his mouth and the snake reemerges whole again unharmed, it’s green scales shimmering in the light tongue flicking as it slithers down his right arm and wraps itself around his wrist. He moves across the space showing the snake to all, returns to center and takes a long low bow.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

Korin walks in with Verna and the others immediately seeking a table. Seeing a barmaid walking by with a tray covered in tankards of ale he reaches out and snatches one off. He grins at the undoubtedly annoyed girl and says,

"Keep these coming."

Once seated he will order food and more drink. He will offer to Verna,

”Allow me to pay please. I have been on the run for the last month. Most of my time has been spent hiding in the woods, sleeping under hedges and stowing away in farmer’s haylofts. I have not had much of an opportunity for shopping so gold I still have. Besides I think the opportunity for more gold will be presenting itself shortly. Kavanaugh and I both now enjoy leverage against one another or at least perceived leverage. His is much greater because he could send word straight to my father and my gig is up. However he is in the middle of something big I think and he did not like seeing me. He certainly did not like my invoking the name of Captain Gualterius. My presence here in the company of an armed knight among others is unknown factor. He cannot afford to ignore that. The best way to handle the situation then would be to bring me under his control as much as possible. I threw the bait out there and I predict we will soon hear from Mr. Kavanaugh.”

Korin will swig deeply from his ale, belch and then say,

”Then again I could be completely over reading the situation. I am admittedly out of practice at playing politics having been in survival mode as of late. What do you think? What are your immediate plans?”

Korin stops to watch the show drinking liberally from his tankard of ale. After the performance he waves it off arrogantly.

"Elves can be overly dramatic... or just plain full of shit it's hard to tell the difference."

By now the Stable Master was already unhitching the donkey from the wagon and a helper was preparing a stall.

I really sent away because he found out that his son and I were planning on secretly getting married. The son of a lord, even a minor one doesn't marry a peasant girl elevated to Knighthood. No he marries the daughter of some other Lord."

Verna takes a rather long gulp of her ale before continuing. "I'm pretty sure my Lord doesn't expect me to return. So my plans are to see if there are any dangers out this way and help others. It seems like you need help, even if it's to tell others there is a Knight by your side."

Noticing the dwarf who gave them all a lift back to the inn go and sit down with the Verna and Korin gave Thilo pause.  None knew Thilo's trouble's but the kindness of these people were intriguing.  Thilo sits observing the trio at their table all the while fiddling with his metal tankard of water, it's metallic taste not really to his liking although the water was very fresh.  Perhaps it was allies like those three that he would need to get his vengeance.

The elf who had put on some little show was intriguing also, it was magic he knew, but in all his studies and books he had read he had not heard of the like.  It would know doubt be an interesting conversation.  And he also was sitting with another elf, both already in conversation although if he didn't know any better they had just met.

How was it that these people could so flawlessly interact with one another after such a short amount of time in one another's presence.  Well like many things in the scholarly world after observation came investigation.  It was time to just that, Thilo stands from his table and walks to the same table that the wagon dwarf had just sat down at.

"My name is Thilo Brighthand, I have been on the isle of Y-oda at the Library of Bletherad for the last four years and company is not something I usually participated in.  May I sit and partake of your company and learn of your travels.  It would seem as of last night you are no strangers to the dangers of the wild."

Korin blinks a couple times and a slight blush of color spots his pale cheeks.

"Well... whichever city I am in it seems like most others. Smells of shit and misery. When I depart it I will be all the happier. For the nonce it is good place to blend in and figure out what comes next."

Korin pulls out a nice looking meersham pipe and fills the bowl with tabac from a small leather pouch. Looking up at the newcomer as he lights his pipe he blows rich smelling smoke out of the corner of his mouth and says,

"I was raised on a small island with no population other than my family and a large number of slaves. I spent the last three years in a remote monastery with an eclectic group of reclusive monks. So you can say that company is not something I frequently participate in myself. But I am always up for new experiences so I have no opposition to you joining our table... Thilo was it?"

Giving all three people a polite node, Thilo grabs a chair from a near by unoccupied table and proceeds to place it and  sit down at the table with Verna, Korin and Grudgebearer.

Thilo waits for a server to come by and when one does will ask for some hot water and honey also paying for a round of drinks for the table.  When it arrives he will ceremoniously prepare tea for himself, pulling out a small pouch of herbs from within one of the pockets in his robe.

"I have studied much of the world, only the ones near the edge fit your description, do you hail from the Floerny Island Chain on one of those isle's, or perhaps Phi or Lopan although clearly those are inland?  I have been to most seeking for knowledge and wisdom and found them all to be of interest. And milady may I say you are very proficient in matters of combat, Captain Gualterius said as much, you may find a job offer from him I am sure.  Also Master Dwarf I would thank you for the offer of your cart this day, walking on the hard cobble streets can be taxing.  What would your trade be Master Dwarf?"

The man with the hooded robe was intriguing, he had sat quietly on the wagon ride back only saying so much as to accept the lift to the inn and when he had got there left almost more quietly.  Now he approached boldly but never enough so far as to see his face.  Grudge takes his mug of ale and takes a heavy pull of it all the while his eye's peering over at the hooded man.  Grudgebearer stops and looks in his mug and realize's he may have been staring to long, he motions to an server for a pitcher of ale.  Filling up his mug and offering the pitcher to any who would take it.

"Good Sir, I am Master Artisan Blacksmith who hails from the Halls of Clan Blackforge, I specialize in arms and armor from cloth to iron.  I will boast that I could equip the lot of this fine tavern with the finest of arms and armors given the time and resources.  I have been traveling these last twenty years perfecting my trade and helping those that be need helping, especially near the disputed zone.  And you my cloaked friend, what made one who is seeking knowledge and wisdom leave the isle of Y-oda for tavern tale tells that ya could live a ten life times and not read a hundredth of the books that they have."

Grudge leaned back his chair creaking slightly as his dwarf mass with light armor tested it's limits.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

Korin seems to visibly relax and takes the offered pitcher and refills his tankard with a nod of thanks. He takes on last long pull on his pipe before emptying the bowl by tapping it on the underside of the table.  The young mans eyes narrow almost imperceptibly and he says,

"Officially my families taxes go to Lopan while most of the bribes are sent to the Western Empire.  Our island is one of the larger barrier islands in the inland sea. It is not much to look at but has great soil for growing poppies and the like. I would love to see the Great Library myself. One of the monks from the Temple of the Eternal Sun told a story about a young boy that when he slept his consciousness would leave his body and could absorb information from books or scrolls near him. After a week at Bletherad his ability was discovered and they banned him for life. Probably a horse shit story yet it makes me think they probably have so many secrets hidden in that place."

Korin realizes he started to ramble and shrugs taking a few healthy gulps of ale. His smooth pale cheeks are already flush from the alcohol. When Verna says her piece about Gaulterius and not wanting to be stuck in the city he nods enthusiastically.

In reply to Grudgebearer (msg # 168):

Typical dwarven response, even thousand's of years later they could not help but boast about themselves, but boast they could for even now they crafted the finest arms and the sturdiest structures in all of Palladium.

"Forgive me Master dwarf, for I am ashamed that I have not heard of the dwarven halls of Blackforge.  Perhaps one day I should travel by it and make it's acquaintance, for surely it is a mighty place if it has not fallen these thousands of years."

A Dwarven stronghold was a rare thing no doubt, especially a small one to survive so long even if hidden.

Thilo turns his attention to Korin who also shares, openly, these were indeed good people.  Although Thilo's face could not be seen it was clear Korin had his attention.

Verna's reply was also not shocking nor abrasive, well not in the least to Thilo.

"It was a mere compliment, the Captain when we arrived did not immediately jump in with his men.  Granted it looked as if it was over."

Thilo waved his hand in a dismissive gesture as he made his comment.

"From what I have gathered from observation the Master Dwarf here is traveling home, but does the job offer from The Circle of the Scroll bring you two here?"

Through hooded eyes Thilo looks to Verna and Korin.

Grudgebearer's visibly purse's his lips which can be seen though his beard when Thilo did not recognize the name of his Dwarven Clan home.  The dwarvern hall's used to be known far and wide, but now like the elve's they faded into history.  Thilo's mention of maybe being willing to visit although unlikely did bring a proud grin to Grudge's face.

"Aye that you would visit although we have not just met, it would do you good, for no greater halls and forges are there then if you were to visit Acoroc or the mountain halls of Northolme.  In fact the halls of Northolme I will sadly admit are slightly better and they have without a doubt the greatest craftsman in all of Palladium.  The Hex they call them now those are Master Smith's my good friends a finer blade you will never see in your life, I would take one of those over any legendary rune weapon and get a fine Alchemist to enchant it oh that would be a thing of beauty."

Grudgebearer notice's that as he was speaking he had raised his tankard of ale mid way to his mouth before he had gone off on a tirade about the Hex smith's.  Quickly giving his head a shake he quaffs his back pours another for himself and for anyone else who's cup looks half empty.

Korin has had three tankards of ale in rapid succession and it is starting to show slightly in his speech and demeanor.

"I do not even know what the Circle of the Scroll is but if they have a job worth doing I currently find myself without one."

The young man belches into his closed fist and then motions to a serving girl for a refill.

"Personally I am on the run from a band of mercenary scum who call themselves the Bright Blades. They are none to bright but they can use their blades. They ambushed a group of companions I was travelling with and killed everyone but me. I escaped managing to kill one and caused grievous injuries to some of the others. They trailed me for a solid week but I managed to kill or lame all their horses one night. Ever since I have been running like Mephisto was on my tail but I have not had any sign of pursuit in over three weeks."

When his tankard has been refilled Korin starts to sip on it instead of taking large gulps as he had been. When Grudgebearer makes the Elf comment Koring raises an eyebrow.

"So what is the deal with the deep cowl are you hideous or soemthing?"

Thilo waves his hand in a polite but dismissive gesture at Korin's and Grudgebearer's comments about his robes.

"I am very introverted and like to be warm so I stay bundled up and replacing robes all the time is such a chore.  But as for The Circle of the Scroll, they are looking for those who are familiar with adventuring.  The details are vague as they are wanting skilled adventure's which from last nights exhibition, I am sure you two will no doubt qualify."

Thilo looks to Verna and Korin, turning his head it shifts slightly to Grudgebearer.

"As for you Master Dwarf, as you say, you travel for home. I would say though that with your years on the roads that you also might be interested in hearing what they have to say.  They wish adventures to be at a Mansion known as Lake Hurst.  It is quite close to here which is why I choose this particular Inn.  A simple traveling scholar I am, though not to unfamiliar with traveling and adventure, perhaps you would care to join me on the morrow and see what it is they are asking."

Thilo took another sip of his tea and places it down on the table.  Reaching into the arm of his right sleeve he pulls out a fairly long church warden tobacco pipe, that is made of an ebony wood.  From his other sleeve pulling out a small bag of tobacco, pack of matches and a pipe tamper.  AS with his tea, Thilo prepares his pipe ceremoniously and lights it taking a long draw and letting the smoke out gently.

Thilo`s follow up that there maybe work in town was intriguing, the funds were a bit low as Grudgebearer had been paying a little more gold lately with Nexxi tagging along as a lot inns and other places squeezed more gold out of him.  A quizzical look was on his face as it was clear he was pondering something.

"Aye, I just might be taggin along with you to this Lake Hurst, my missing traveling companion made gold a little harder to hang on to and I could use a little more in my coffers.  Not that means I don't have gold to go around, I will buy us another round."

Grudgebearer orders another for the table and another serving of food, better eat something more if he was thinking of adventuring.

As the night wears on at the Faded Flame, citizens come and go for dinner and a couple drinks and then are on their way. Some fellow guests as far as you can tell turn in early and head to there perspective rooms, staff members can be seen bringing food to some guests rooms and returning with plates.  Even if not closely observing it is obvious that the Inn's keeper Mr Borsok has this place humming with high efficiency.  He stops by every now and then to see how everyone is fairing and then is on his way belting order's to his staff.  At around nine thirty you hear faint rapid bells far in the distance for about five minutes but then they stop, anyone observing the inn will notice that Borsok stops at this sound and speaks to one of the young lads who has been coming out of the kitchen to collect the dirty dishes.  Borsok takes the plate tray from him and the boy runs off only to come back an hour later and head right to the back.
The rest of the night the conversation is light and nonchalant each telling each other some of the milder adventures you have all had.  None of it uninteresting just none of it substantial, just enough to learn that each one of you is capable in his own right.

It is evident that he has some mental abilities, using them to track his sister here.

Before the two hours have passed and before heading down to the docks with Jalahada, Thracce will remove his sisters scarf from his bag and focuses his mind upon it.

Come morning when you all head downstairs, a staff member hands you a folded piece of paper with a red seal on it of a mansion, above the seal is a stamp reading Order of the Scroll. Inside it reads

Dear Sir or Madam(depending on your sex)

We have sent this formal request to you as it has come to our attention that as you read this letter you are presently in the city of Wisdom.  We request that you come at your earliest convenience this day as we have need of your services.

Thracce had spent most of the evening sipping tea and considering possibilities on how to find his sister. The most promising which he would have wanted to discuss with a mage if there is one in the group,is to obtain and Magic Pigeon scroll and send her a message then simply follow it, but may need to increase his funds to be able to afford several in case he is unable to reach her, or perhaps to make the acquaintance of a wizard who could cast it for him. Also if she is on some island beyond the shore his phantom steed will not be able to carry him over water. But she seems safe and not in danger for now,so may have time to plan a proper rescue. He speaks of his ideas and plans to Jalahada, unclear if Oronos will be able to assist him with his quest. He remains troubled and did not sleep well as he continues to try to come up with a plan to find his sister. at least his inner power reserves have been restored.

"Good morning." he bids to those present from the night before.

He considers the letter, an odd surprise. He examines the seal before opening it

"Order of the scroll?" he turns it over noticing the obvious, no directions or further instructions on how to actually find the "Order". He will ask the person that gave him the note if there was any information the person who gave them the note or they have ever heard of the "Order".

"Aye I will breakfast with you Thilo and I will go to this Circle of the Scroll, a Dwarf does not often turn down a personal invite.  As to my skills I don't know how they measure up to you or the others I have met.  My hope is that we won't be in need of my fighting skills."

The staff member seems honestly confused by the question, it would be safe to assume that most of the locals would think it common knowledge

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

In reply to The Storyteller (msg # 193):

"Wonderful, that would be lovely. I've only just arrived in town and haven't had a chance to fully explore. I'll just check then." he responds. Thracce turns "I'm arranging a guide unless any of you know the way." if none do he proceeds, if someone does he thanks the staff member for the offered of assistance. Either way he is ready to leave right now. "Shall we be off then?"

"I'm with you then."

Korin says and quickly finishes his meal. When it is time to go he reretrieves his spear and follows along.

In reply to Caspar Uhla Thracce (msg # 194):

From his sitting position Thilo raises his hand, his head not rising from the meager food he ordered.

"I know the way, the Master Dwarf and I were heading there once were done eating.  It would not hurt I am sure to be early to this invitation.  Scholars can be a rather finicky bunch, I have been around enough to know this for truth.  I will be outside for ten minutes for any who wish to come and for any stragglers who have not decided to answer the call yet."

Placing payment on the table in a rather clumsy manner Thilo tsk's at himself and proceeds to stand, grabbing hold of his staff and walks to the door.

"Excellent." Thracce looks across the room for "Onoro", nodding to him . He reaches behind his head with his right hand checks his black sword over his left shoulder, then with his left hand under behind his back he checks the red blade on his right. Makes  small adjustments so they pull quickly and freely before stepping out the door to wait.

Grudgebearer listens with his head to the food shoveling it in as fast as he can, with Thilo kinda forcing his hand by leaving earlier then originally agreed Grudgebearer finishes his last bite and then wipes his face with his beard.  Grabbing his round shield and dwarven war hammer Grudge waits outside with those gathering to head out.  While he waits for others to arrive Grudgebearer finds a cool spot and sits down, pulling out a piece of briar stonewood that he purchased of a lumber merchant when near the disputed zone, he was currently in the process of making a fine tobacco pipe to anyone that would recognize carving.

Re: For here is where we meet and here is where we start

With Thilo leading the way through Wisdom it does not take long to arrive at Lake Hurst, not due to Thilo's guiding skills but just to the fact that is truly was a simple walk and traffic was lite in what is known as the school district of Wisdom.

The loose banded group comes to the entrance of Lake Hurst which is walled off completely by an eight foot tall stone wall with a strong iron gate roughly in the center being the only apparent entrance to the grounds.  Above the gate on the keystone of the arch is a perfectly carved circle, the left and right of the gate at eye level are two alcoves.  The one on the right has a fine iron chain and the one on the left an iron scone with a torch ready to be lit.

In reply to The Storyteller (msg # 199):

Grudgebearer had waited a couple minutes once they had got to Lake Hurst, everyone seemed pretty underwhelmed but that was more then fair.  He had attempted to fix some of his whittling mistakes on the way there, but with trying to stay with the group and avoiding other pedestrians it had been a futile effort.  Folding up the delicate work in a soft piece of leather Grudge put it away in a small pouch hanging off his belt.  Dusting his hands off of any small woods shavings, Grudge walks up to the chain inspecting it by looking into the roof of the alcove.  Not one to test things out Grudgebearer will attempt to pull on the chain.

In reply to Grudgebearer (msg # 200):

Grudgebearer pulls on the chain, it gives smoothly and then returns to its previous position, for minutes nothing happens, no one is paying enough attention to notice that a man has appeared and opened the gate and is politely bowing while his arm is in a position welcoming you to enter.  As you all enter and gather on the other side he closes the gate and walks to the group.  He is a finely dressed middle aged man with exceptionally well groomed facial hair, no jewelry adorns his hands rather a pair of fine pristine white gloves.  By anyone's account mistaking this man for anything other then the mansions Master Butler would be nonsensical, as if to drive home the point he speaks up.

"Good day gentlemen, my name is Harden Yosavick, I am the Master Butler here at Lake Hurst.  What would bring you here on this fine spring morning?"

"Well we are not here for the tour my good man"

Korin says as he hands the summons over to the butler

"Come to think of it though if you have a tour I would actually be interested. "

In reply to Korin Simmat (msg # 202):

Harden Yosavick politely takes the summons from Korin from all appearances completely ignoring both his comments.  With the summons open in one hand, Mr. Yosavick retrieves what appears to be reading glasses from his coat pocket.  Holding them just to the bridge of his nose Mr. Yosavick reads the summons, once done he puts his reading spectacles away, returns the paper to Korin and looks to the rest of the group.

"Would I be safe to assume you all have a similar document?, if not please speak up and if so please retrieve it.  I do not need to read it just so much as see it for now will be fine."

Thilo follows suit with the rest of the group producing the invitation to the gentlemen.  It was an interesting place this Lake Hurst to say the least, no security to speak of save an iron gate and small stone wall, but that is what appeared to the naked eye.  Answers were no doubt coming.

Reaching into another one of the pouches on his belt Grudgebearer mumbles something indecipherable to the rest of the group and produces his letter.  A look of frustration was clearly evident and Grudge was not doing well hiding the classic dwarven demeanor.  He would be on his way home now, but the damn Goblin had wanted to travel into Wisdom, only to disappear and he of course gets stuff with some strange invite.

"Should have just went home"

Grudgebearer mumbles again as he puts away the document once he receives the nod from from Mr.Yosavick

Jalahada, produces his letter/invitation when asked. For him this was just the start of what would hopefully be a well paying job.
