"Jedi" the stormtrooper nodded in agreement with Ooli "or a tractor beam" he offered sceptically.

"It doesn't take great power to do that, only great will, or rage." Tomen said with a tone like he was teaching something. "Power, comes from the mind and determination of the user. Once you understand the ways of the force, there is nothing out of your reach."

Outside, Kalis shrugged at Aaliyah's talk of fashion. 'I wouldn't know, I wear glorified pyjamas and dressing gown.' he joked dryly. 'Anyway, you never know, it might have come back into style.' He glanced inside to check on her; some decades' worth of must and dust seemed to now be emerging from the long-undisturbed room. 'Sorry, I don't have a breather... We can try some of these other rooms if you need some more.'

Ooli considered that a moment.  "Regardless, not someone who we want to cross lightly."

Mission 2: Secrets
Aaliyah wasn't sure if she wanted to know what was in the files or not. She was glad the subject had been dropped for the moment, and focuses on the here and now, gathering up what few things might be worth saving, including the blaster that may or may not still work, and puts them into a mildly mildewed leather satchel.

"Yeah; may as well see if something better got left behind in the other rooms."

She takes him by the arm again, and leads him into the next bedroom. Surely the polite distance he had kept from hers wouldn't extend here.

"Tell me more about the group? You said two of them are with the Empire, so I take it that you and the other one aren't? Does that mean you're all under contract to work for the Empire? Or is this a privately-funded venture?"

Kalis followed Aaliyah into the next room. Since its last occupant was long-departed and probably long-dead, he didn't mind poking around in the cupboards. 'The personnel of this base had an orderly move out, so I'm not sure how much more we'll find here.' he reflected.

'Ooli's an Imperial officer, and GS-974 is a Stormtrooper well, obviously. I'm not sure where Tomen is from, but he and I are civilian contractors but we're not with the Empire.' he added, wishing to emphasise that point. 'This a joint venture between the Galactic Alliance, the Galactic Empire, and the Jedi Order. Our ship, the Sentinel, is on an expedition into the Unknown Regions.'

'A holy quest,' Kalis began with a grand air, before adding with a small smile 'Surveying bantha populations and migrations in the Unknown Regions. I just needed a ship to take me there, so I signed onto the expedition. I was contracted for astrogation and tech support.' He might have asked about Aaliyah's past, but suspected it might still be a sensitive matter. He was too shy to probe, so he let it be.

'I think this room's a bust, unless you want an ancient bottle of armour polish... Do you know where your brothers' rooms are?'

"This was one of their rooms. And you're right; it's definitely a bust. The other is one door down from this, and sure to be equally disappointing. But with the others busy with their own search, I guess we're not holding things up much. It can't hurt to go through one more, just in case?"

Besides, it postponed the really hard questions like: did they have any use for her? and if not, where would she likely be dropped off? (assuming she was worth even that much trouble to them), and of course, the one she'd need to answer on her own, eventually: then what?

It had been a roller-coaster of emotions, so far, today. Soon she and Kalis would rejoin the rest of the group, so if she was ever going to have a chance to think through everything that had been said so far, this was it. She goes through it quickly, and she decides she has nothing at all to lose by putting her trust in these people, and aligning herself as closely to them as they would let her. Who else did she have, anyway?

At least one of them seemed nice. And he was beginning to sound a lot less crazy than he had at first. She was starting to understand his subtle sense of humor.

"What's it like to have faith in something?" It was a heavy follow-up question, but she was honestly curious.

'Sure,' Kalis agreed with Aaliyah. 'Until we find whatever you need.' With no reptilians loose in the corridors or other issues to worry about, they were in no rush to complete this investigation.

Surprised by her question, the monk thought a long time about his answer, realising he'd never had to explain or consider it before. What was it like? How was it different for others? The Dim-U might be a religious order, but they worshipped banthas, so higher matters of faith usually ranked below getting God out of the top paddock and in for feeding time. 'I don't know.' he began, immediately regretting it as a bit of a useless answer. 'It's just always been a part of my life. I guess it's like having faith in people or faith in the world. The hope that if we just help each other things will work out.' That turned out to be surprisingly eloquent, and now he felt self-conscious that it was all a bit silly. 'But I can go meet my god in any field and brush his coat or milk her, so I might not be the best one to ask.'

Aaliyah was both surprised by, and a little jealous of, the simplicity of the answer. "At least no one can claim your god doesn't exist."

'No... Though we can have bitter sectarian feuds over whose bantha is more divine,' he admitted, then grinned. 'Joke. We don't do that. All banthas are the Great Bantha in all its forms.' Curious, after a while, he asked 'What do you ask?''

"I've never known anyone who was very religious, so I find it interesting. And honestly, if we keep talking, it distracts me from the crushing reality that everyone and everything I've ever known is gone, and that I'm left directionless and alone in the ever-changing void of space and time..."

She looks very thoughtful for a moment, then shakes it off.

"But I was also curious."

'Oh.' Kalis said limply, pained to hear of Aaliyah's loss and pained that he could do nothing to help her. Except to try to help. 'I'm sorry. I can't imagine what that must be like. I don't know what to say. I could tell you some parable of the Bantha or other,' he began, 'It might be relevant, but maybe not welcome... But you don't have to be alone. Right now, we're here for you. Your brothers might be out there. And, most of all, you have yourself. You can have faith in yourself too.' Since that was sounding more spiritual than he'd intended, he added 'Oh, okay: no bantha walks alone.'

'But if you want to talk religion, you can also try Tomen. He's from something called the Umbra Brotherhood. It sounds monastic, but less bantha-oriented.'

"I might just do that. If he's half as patient and friendly as you, I could learn a lot. And if not, I'll just bother you exclusively. Having two brothers makes me an expert." She says the last with a mischievous grin.

"Well, I give up. We're not finding anything, so we may as well rejoin the others so they don't think we're up to anything untoward. She waggles her eyebrows playfully.

Kalis and Aaliyah head to her brother's rooms, only to find them even emptier than her own. Someone has clearly removed anything that might be of interest and any personal items.

Just then, everyone except Aaliyah has their comlinks go off. Looks like the ship is trying to reach you, but you're too deep underground for a proper transmission. You can only pick up a few words.

"..... Ship... fighters.. engaged.. danger..."

The young monk blushed at that remark, left lost for words or bantha-related sayings. Fortunately, he was saved by the comlink alert. 'That's our cue to head back.' he decided, worrying about what could be threatening a Star Destroyer. He called Ooli, GS, and Tomen, reporting 'We heard it. We're on our way back now.'

Retracing their steps, they tried to reunite with the team. They had no more time for exploration or slicing. This base would keep the rest of its secrets, and Aaliyah's. Kalis was just glad to do the right thing by her.

Aaliyah quickly adjusts and secures her bag in such a way that it will rest against her back, hands-free, and not flop around or make noise as they move through the hallways. She holds the little blaster, which she hopes may have somehow held a charge over the decades, in both hands and at the ready, but safely pointed at the floor as she takes up position, and follows, just a step and a half behind, and slightly to the right, of Kalis.

Just above a whisper, Aaliyah says to Kalis, "Whatever happens, I'll back you up. I trust your judgment."

Once everyone is gathered back together, she arranges everyone in order with herself and GS-974 in front and everyone else in the rear how they like.  If they get ambushed by anything while leaving, it'd be preferable that the militarily trained are up front to meet it.

Of course, she's not really thinking about that, she's more worried about being up front so she can get back to the space battle all the sooner.

Here was hoping that the creature that they had slipped by the first time had left by now...

Just filling in some transitory stuff and proving that I'm still here.  My job has dragged me away from things a lot but I'm here.

Kalis walked beside Aaliyah, with some words about how the herd stayed close and watched one another. Although the monk could handle himself in a brawl, possibly almost as well as Ooli or even GS, he certainly didn't have the kind of big weapons they carried. Weapons that would be the only things really useful against the massive beasts of this world, so he was more than ready to let them go first. Just in case, however, he tugged on a pair of stun gauntlets and drew his blaster pistol; pea-shooters against a rancor, probably. He just hoped the Great Bantha had mooed upon them and lured the predator away.

'There was a very... big reptilian predator outside.' he warned Aaliyah as they approached the door, remembering she didn't know of it yet. 'We're hoping it's gone away now, but, um, get ready to run...'

He took point and kept his rifle at the ready "one big enemy doesn't exclude others. Keep eyes out" the stormtrooper worked to have everyone at the ready. He didn't want to have to babysit the not military personnel among them.
