Prologue: The Beginning of the Apocalypse
Everyone in town was just living their normal life, until at 11:59 AM, suddenly, there was a huge crash, everyone across the world felt it. The crash caused several huge earthquakes, tsunamis, erupting volcanoes and other natural disasters across the world. The news immediately started reporting all of it. It seemed something had crashed into the ocean, something large enough to almost create another dinosaur extinction, just this time it was humans, not dinosaurs. The news confirmed it was a huge chunk of rock sticking out of the ocean. The chunk of rock was big enough to be an island. It was about 5 miles long and 8 miles wide. There was something strange though. A new object in the sky. It was really big. Almost 1000x the size of the rock/boulder/mountain/asteroid. It kinda blocked out the sun, but not entirely. Suddenly there was a huge neon green wave of light that swept across the world. Suddenly every single person in the world was paralyzed at once. I know, sounds crazy right? Well, it happened. Suddenly there was a voice. It was very loud, otherwise the whole world wouldn't have been able to hear it.
"Humans, don't worry with how I know what you are, I am here because our world is coming to an end. It was thrown out of orbit and into this solar system. It just happened to land near this world. Anyway, we will seek refuge here. You don't have a choice in the matter, we will stay here, not may we stay here." The thing that was speaking chuckled, then there was a red wave of light and everyone could move again.

20 years later...
The humans and the inhabitants of the world have learned to live in peace. (kinda...sorta...not really...) Almost. Some of the people from the other world dislike how some of the humans treat them. The humans named their world without listening to the aliens. They want revenge on the humans, and one of them is willing to lead them to victory. Hopefully. Of course, the humans would not take kindly to that. The voice spoke again to the whole world. "I have read and seen everything you guys have on the internet. It is very boring, you guys seem obsessed with kittens and romance. There are much more interesting things, believe me. Speaking of interesting things... I found a few things that I would like to bring to life. How will you guys react? I wonder... And keep in mind, you can't destroy them. Oh, and they will be out to kill you. I have heard some complaints of you guys naming our world, and I was bored, so I created them. Good luck!"

Prologue: The Beginning of the Apocalypse
"What a vile little creature you are..."

Benedict stared down at the broken 'elite' minion from the Halo game series, idly wondering if (and where) it had a wallet or some form of ID.  It wasn't a creature that he recognized, but Benedict assumed that it sprang forth from some computer game medium (just like he had).  Benedict had seen people hit by cars before and this creature showed all the signs of having succumbed to such a fate.  His mouth twisted into a wry smile.  Apparently there were still a few 'plucky' humans around.  Good, he needed to find more of these people.  Oh and 'gamers', he needed to locate some of those as well.

A few minutes later, Benedict had found the vehicular 'murder weapon' (thanks to the distinct paint scraping that matched the deceased).  After memorizing the car's model and its license plates, he entered the residential building that corresponded to the vehicle's placement.  Logic dictated that the car's owner was in here somewhere.  Benedict engaged in some old fashion door knocking, querying the building's inhabitants as to whether the car belonged to them.  Some of them needed a bit of persuading (or a crash course in manners), but Benedict didn't need to kill anyone.  Finally he ended up outside Alex's door.

"Hello?  I'm looking for the owner of the downstairs vehicle with the scraped bumper.  I'd like to shake your hand, perhaps even come in and talk about business."

In reply to Mr Benedict (msg # 2):

That's the third time someone's at the door, Alex thought to himself, letting out an annoyed sigh as he sat up from his sofa to open the door."Look, if this is about the Covenant, I already called the cops about it and it'll take another half-hour until they get here to clean u-," He stopped mid-sentence as the door opened, and looked as if whatever stress he was in finally went away. "Oh good! You're not the homeowners association!" Alex said, before continuing with, "Ans, your name is?"

Prologue: The Beginning of the Apocalypse
"You can call me Benedict... and no, I'm not with the police.  Do you have a name... and might I come in?  I'd prefer to keep our discussion private."

His hand extended outwards for the promised handshake.  Benedict wasn't one for happy smiles and cheerful laughs, but he could certainly do 'pleasant'.  Idly he brushed off his suit and waited for an invitation to come in, although his sunglasses remain on.  At least the young man didn't know Benedict by reputation (yet).  That would definitely work in his favor.

"The Covenant... I take it that's what you call the thing downstairs?  I've never seen its like before, but then I haven't exactly kept up with modern computer games.  Do you know much about the subject?"

Benedict had a look around the apartment, noting art, pictures, awards, memorabilia, and other things that might tell him something about Alex.  Computer and gaming gear (consoles, a library of games, etc) were also things of interest to Benedict.

In reply to Mr Benedict (msg # 4):

"Well, Yes and no," Alex said, shaking his hand before moving to the side of the door to let him in. "The Covenant is the army thst guy is part of. But his species is called Elite." The inside of Alex's apartment was kept cleanish, but it was obvious that he wasn't expecting any videos. The nearby table had unorganized magazines across it, with various topics such as upcoming video games, rifles and handguns, and vehicle buying guides."Name's Alex by the way. Feel free to come in."

Prologue: The Beginning of the Apocalypse
In his inspection of Alex's apartment, Benedict noted the various magazines with a fair degree of interest.  He then looked the young man up and down... before helping himself to a seat.

"I suppose the emergence of these creatures isn't as horrific, when you recognize them, correct?  Nonetheless you seem like a decent chap, Alex... quick thinking enough to act and with an interest in the 'right' things, if these magazine are anything to go by.  More of those creatures will come, if not from the Covenant then from some other 'game'.  I'm here because we have a common enemy... one the authorities are not equipped to handle."

He paused, allowing Alex some time to take in what he had just outlined.

"I think that hunting down some of these creature and 'interviewing' them, could give us a bead on their superiors or reveal how they are being co-ordinated.  Some of them we might even be able to draft, with a convincing enough argument.  But to do that I need a 'gamer' or two, someone who can background these creatures.  I'm not representing anybody's interest except my own desire for self preservation... over the long term.  Will there even be a long term if nothing is done?  I doubt it.  So what do you say young man?"

In reply to Mr Benedict (msg # 6):

"Common enemy?" Alex thought before an idea popping up in our head. "You mean that voice that shows up every now and then? Well, if that's the case then I can help out. I know quite a bit about some of the things walking around the town nowadays" He asked, crossing his arms. Finally, he's been itching to have something to do about the sudden invasion of his home. Even though for the most part things have been somewhat okay, it was getting old that after dark he had to deal with the certain night loving characters from titles such as Resident Evil.

Prologue: The Beginning of the Apocalypse
"Splendid.  Lets begin with what creatures you've seen and pick out ones that might be able to carry a conversation.  I myself have seen some grotesque things, although they only seemed capable of snarls and hisses... oh and gurgling their last breath.  Do you have anything to drink, Alex?"

Benedict liked having a drink in the hand.  Also with so much to talk about, it was going to be thirsty work.

Prologue: The Beginning of the Apocalypse
"The easiest ones that can talk are basically anything that doesn't want to attack first," Alex said, Walking to the kitchen to pour out a glass of lemonade and place it back on the table. "I can't even go to some parts of town anymore when it gets too dark, it's like you're right in a horror movie until you shine a flashlight ahead of you."

Prologue: The Beginning of the Apocalypse
Benedict took the drink and had a long sip.  Lemonade?  Well, it would have to do.

"Attacking such nests would be very dangerous, unless we could even the odds.  And it might stir them up, causing a lot of collateral damage.  Single targets and pairs then, that should be our focus."

Finding the tv remote, Benedict switched it on and adjusted the volume downwards (enough so he and Alex could hear it while still conversing).  He flicked over to a 24 hour news channel, preferable a local one.

"Lets see if the news can tell us who's been naughty and nice..."
