Okay, so you guys from the Wanted GMs thread have applied so far. I have not put up an advertisement yet. I want to ask you your opinion on the following issue first.

I originally planned to only allow a small group of people, 3-5 maybe. I was even willing to just start with the three people that expressed interest in the thread. However, as it is two people now, I wonder what your opinion is.

Would you like me to advertise?
I would accept maybe one or two more players, three only if there are good options, to make the game the amount of players I would've accepted before.

However, I've had an idea that's been growing on me, and I wondered if this would interest in more.
I could also create NPCs that will be part of "your party". Ideally I had wanted to do this with three people, but it could still work with just two.
In this scenario, I would instead give you each an NPC from your clan that is journeying with you. You can help me fit them into your own character's backstories, and their skills will try to complement yours (although I will control them still). Basically, if you are a courtier, they could be a bushi.

I can still attempt my second idea if I accept just one more person from my advertisement, but if I put up an ad, I would like to consider the amount of interest I get and take as many enthusiastic players as I can, so I may kill this option myself (I will not make the party 8-10 characters after all).

What do you guys think?

I'm open to the idea of advertising for another player or two.

Would these NPCs essentially be Allies / powerful Servants? Could they have distinct (even secret) goals from the PCs?

They will not be Allies or Servants, and they can have distinct/secret goals from the PCs. They will basically be members of your clan that happen to be traveling with you, although you are free to tie them into your backstory. You can make your traveling companion into an ally by getting the Merit for it, but you can also earn the Merit along the way as well.

I do not want to use this idea if there are four or more players, however.

Honestly, I would prefer to advertise and have more players as I'm new to L5R.  It's going to be difficult as it is taking note of every action of my character that affects honor and glory and following the intrigue-heavy plots which are typical of this RPG.

That sounds fine. I will put up the advertisement.

How about a thread for recording events & actions that might change honour/glory, and tallying them after scenes?

Are you suggesting the GM tracks events and honor values on the thread and each player tallies the amounts received or lost from it?

Not quite. The way I've heard it working IRL is to earmark (dis)honourable actions while the game is going (anyone can do this), and tally their actual point value at the end of a session. (GM does this)

So, in the span of yesterday, when I posted the ad, and today, when I checked again, three people already applied, so we got three more players right there.

Also, from my understanding, I believe honor and glory gains and losses can be doled out like extra roleplaying xp, and they basically are just +1 or -1. When I see you guys posting/accomplishing something that merits those changes, I'll just tell you in an OOC line within the in game post. I'll put up a Notice about Posting guidelines to try and explain this in more detail later.

I believe the system Rin is referring to is just for IRL play, to keep track of things and keep things moving. However, since we're playing Play by Post, there's plenty of time in between posts to make sure honor and glory totals are correctly marked.

If you all would really like a record of every event that gave or lost you honor/glory, I suppose I could chronicle them for you, but I personally don't think it's necessary in the grand scheme of things.

Also, why don't you all pick different colors for speech right now? I reserve Orange text for in-game OOC text.

Hello everyone, i will be your not so dependable Lion bushi. As for what you folks seem to be discussing, i have no idea, i am far from a seasoned veteran.

I will be grabbing my delicious periwinkle for speech.

Hi everybody. :D

Green for Rin, who will try to only riddle when someone needs it.

Core p91 (honour) & p93 (glory) have relevant tables for gains/losses.

Well met, fellow Lion!

Question:  how do you change text color?

Oh yes, I'll be claiming purple pre-emptively.

To change color, you can either go down to the "styled text" menu and select the color, or you can manually insert the HTML tags.

EDIT: A bit of pedantry- it's the Ikoma family, not the Ikama.

The charts do show a slightly more complicated process than I thought (the adventure had already detailed certain honor opportunities that happen, so I misjudged the way to approach this)...Let me think about your idea of a thread and how best to do things. It may indeed be worth starting, especially if we decide to continue further down the line.

Also, Isamu is right, so I changed your name, Katsu.

My suggestion would be to not get overly wrapped up in the Honor chart, and just use your best judgment. It's meant to just be a suggestion, after all, not a strict set of rules.

I just know that with the way i made my character, the chance of her honor plummeting is very real, hopefully i will avoid that though. By the way, i am not sure if we are supposed to do any degree of "party arrangement" but either way i will say that my char will likely be rather spread around and with a bunch of things that are likely useless but feel appropriate for fluff, so wont be the most useful chump to have around at the start, though maybe with some progression i can steer her to be more capable a samurai.

True that, Isamu.

I'm happy to go with what works for the group; starting simpler would make it easier to get everyone rowing the same boat.
