Lex opens the door to the room and stands just inside saying "It's not much, but it'll do for now. I imagine Henry will have a task for you before too long that will take you out into the surrounding countryside. At least that's how it's worked with the others like you."

He rubs his left hand with his right and the more observant among you might see a mark, a brand. Realizing he may have drawn attention to it, he clears the air saying "I was one of the bandits you've been hired to help free the area from. I was caught here in the act of... well banditry. I've paid for my crimes and been marked for good. Henry has been good to me since then, as have Oleg and Svetlana. I'm a tanner by trade and have had a chance to make a saddle for one of the others and am finishing up a nice suit of studded leather for another. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you out or if you want a tour, I'd be more than happy to show you around."

Kethara deposited her meager amount of possessions near one of the bunks and chided Wendig as he jumped up on the bottom bunk. Kethara turned to Lex, pointing at his hand. "We all bear the scars of the past. We carry them to the future to remind us. I do not think one such as yourself will forget it though. Thank you for the hospitality," she said before turning to fuss with the fox. He was still excited from the salt pork treat that one of the others had given him and he would not calm down. Sometime her companion was more of a pain than boon.

Lex nods his head in gratitude to the kind response from Kethara. Only then does he realize he hasn't told anyone his name.

"You are quite welcome. My name is Lex by the way.."

As he entered, Marik looked around the bunk house, appraising the accommodations. He'd definitely lived in much worse places, so from his point of view, the place worked just fine. He just hoped that Lex was right, and work would become available soon, because he was sure the money he'd brought with him would run out in short order.

He chose a bunk as far away from the old elf lady as possible; her condescending tone in earlier conversation had rubbed him the wrong way and he preferred staying as far away from the woman as possible. He tossed his backpack on the top bunk as Lex shared his story.

"Hey man, we all do what we have to do to survive. If the people here trust you, that's good enough for me. Name's Marik by the way," he adds as he walks over and offers the man his hand.

She had put Feargus away in the stables before coming to the bunkhouse, she had made sure the horse was well looked after he was her best friend. Taking a deep breath she entered the bunk house, leaning in so her head wouldn't hit the door frame, not saying much just a polite nod to those there, she picked a bottom bunk and placed her backpack on the floor, it made a hard thunk like metal scraping along the floor. She smiled warmly at Lex, "Iomedae smiles on you, to have come from such troubled beginings to a man of honest work" she smiled encouraging at the man, showing her white well kept teeth. She held out her hand "I am Mariam. Thank you indeed for having us." the half-orc set out to unpack her things. Taking out her armor and weapons and making sure that they did not get dirty on the way here, polishing them.

In reply to Lex (msg # 2):

Tansy hefted her pack onto a bed and helped move supplies and the like into the bunkhouse as needed, growing quiet as Lex spoke about his brand.

She listened, her jaw set and face dark, and then chose herself a lower bunk and lay down

"Well Lex, I hope your days of banditing are behind you, and your days of tanning are long."

Her knuckles were tensed, the wrappings on her hands growing damp with fresh blood from her cracked skin on her palms, digging her nails in.

Kethara made a curt nod of her head and spoke after the others had. "I am Kethara, of the Icerime Peaks," she said. Looking at the others, she unconsciously dropped her hand to stroke Wendig. "I must confess that I have not shared this much company in many years. It shall take some adjusting. I suspect we shall find common ground at some point and that will make it easier," Kethara declared with little preamble. It was strange to be new to the feeling company, when she knew full well what that feeling was. The wilds must have insulated her to such things.

Lex turned to each in kind and thanked them saying first to Marik, "Nice to meet you Marik. I hope I will prove your trust to be well founded."

Then to Mariam, "May it always be so. And, I would return the gratitude for your assistance in this endeavor to tame the wild."

Finally turning to Tansy, "I hope for the same! Though I hope to do more than tanning before too long. One of the others, Zorah, she's been teaching me how to work with her horse, and well, I'm a fair shot with a bow, so maybe Henry will let me help on one of the next few expeditions. We'll see."

"As a quick introduction, Svetlana is a good cook and there's always supper at the fire. Oleg keeps what he can in stock and he makes a list for orders from Brevoy and the surrounding areas. I am happy to help with any leatherwork you might need. David is a smith and I'm pretty sure the forge Cyrus commissioned for him just arrived. Pru, I mean, Prudence is a seamstress and can help with any sewing needs. I think that's about it. You'll meet the others when they return from their expeditions."

Marik nods to Lex, "Right, well I heard a rumor that there might be some hot food around here we could partake of." His gaze drifts to the others, "I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I could use a nice hot meal and a bit of relaxation after that journey. We you mind leading the way," he asked Lex with a smile.

In reply to Marik (msg # 11):

Tansy wanted to let Lex's speech drift by. He seemed a nice man, and her anger was ill-placed, she knew, though she couldn't hide it well on her face. Bandits. She'd been naive, it would appear, to think she would be in the company of better men. But she knew that those in her farmstead had not always been honest men, so Lex would need to prove himself noble. Her anger and grimness could not overcome the gnawing in her belly though. The flatbread had sat poor in her stomach and she'd not eaten much of her rations either . . .

She sat up abruptly.

"Yes, Lex. Lead the way to food. I think we should all get to know each other better, don't you?"

Kethara gave a questioning look at the abruptness of Tansy, but said nothing. Instead, Kethara gave a curious look to Marik. "What sort of relaxation is to be had? This hardly seems the venue for frivolity," she said in a tone that sounded genuinely inquisitive.

Lex smiled at Marik's request, he had just mentioned the fire and the food that was there most nights so he was glad to see the seed he had sown already bearing fruit. "Right, food. The best place for food is the fire next to the trading post. You can find dinner there most nights. I'll lead the way."

Marik raises a questioning eyebrow at Kethara's response. "I think perhaps you misunderstood me. I said relaxation, not frivolity." He pats the bed he just placed his backpack on. "We have soft beds in a warm bunkhouse that protects us from the elements. There is warm food that we have time to savor as we don't have to be concerned about our campfire attracting bandits. We don't have to interrupt our sleep in order to stand watch over camp. That's what I mean by relaxation."

In reply to Marik (msg # 15):

"Well, attracting more bandits than it already has around it."

Tansy slung her shield and took off towards the fire.

Lex grimaced at the comment from Tansy but walked out the door leading her and the others to the fire. He knew he had changed but of course it would take time for new people to accept him and the others who had committed to working with Henry.
