Ya last years 8,000 dollar bonus took some of the sting out of being salaried.

And I'm sure there are slow times where you can go home early and get paid for it. :)

I'd have to say that I'm middle lower class. I'm not on welfare, but I'm a scrapper. There are times when I do the same work, but get paid different depending on the prices of metal at the time.

Ooooh, the price of scrap varies continually. That means you work hard for little a lot of the time. Sometimes you get rewarded decent, but not enough of the time. I've known many scrappers over the years.

I'd have to say that I make most of my money right now handing in Catalytic Converters from cars, when I get them. I let them sit until I get a truck load of them.

Yup, the metal inside them, used to be platinum, not sure now. scrapping cars for their weight, with all of the other stuff in them, the wiring and everything, a lot of work cleaning them up.

Yep. I take out the radiator, heater cores and wiring, along with wheels, if they're aluminum and batteries. I drain the gas tank and dump the fuel in my fork lift. Then I stuff the car with all sorts of junk metal to give it more weight and then I wait for metal prices to go up.

Wish I could give you some work, got a van that needs junked, but you don't live here in PA. I'm not knowledgeable enough about it, and frankly, too damn lazy, to do it myself! ;-)

There is so much junk lying around here that I don't need to leave California. I just need a bigger yard to store more. I can drive around my town and find at least 5 water heaters a day next to the curb. All I have to do is stop and load it in the back of the truck.

Nino, don't say that too loud or you might have a visit from those wacko California environmentalists who think everything is wrong.

I'm in the county with lots of sand around me. Not many neighbors would complain. If they did, I would put a tarp over the cars until they are taken to recycler.

Indio, California.
