Re: Into the depths

Again, everyone is focused to the front when something interesting like a light presents itself. Zell just shakes his head, waits for everyone to pass by and keeps an eye on the the party's back, just in case something tried to sneak up on them from behind.

15:25, Today: Zell rolled 14 using 1d20+12.  Spot check.

Re: Into the depths

With most focused on the light, everyone goes down the right branch, following as the light gets brighter. Eventually the cave opens up to a high ceeling cavern, not too large, but your eyes don't go to the size of the cave, but rather the middle and the source of light.

In the middle of the cavern, a pillar of light shines throughout te whole cave, lighting it as bright as day. The light source (the pillar of light) see,s to emirate from a huge topaz floating about 8-9 feet above two figures within the light. The first, a humanoid woman, floats above the ground vertically, her arms stretched out wide. Below her sleeping within the light is a huge wolf, easily bigger than most you have seen or heard of. The wolf, dark grey with streaks of black, seems like it's just asleep, slow breathing movements.

<OOC: not something you see every day...a floating woman with a giant wolf underneath her asleep in a pillar of light

Kalia, can you insert a description of what you look like for the party please.>

Re: Into the depths

The female floats in the air above the wolf. She has long brown and black hair as well as several tattoos. Also she wears a cloak that is a different variation of greens. Her torso is covered in a dark colored vest, slightly different color of green. Despite looking as if asleep she looks rather attractive.

Re: Into the depths

Wow!

Nym says quietly as he sees both the young lady floating in air and the topaz that is lighting up the surrounding area.

Nym sees the wolf and approaches cautiously.  Knowing that the wolf is guarding one or the other or both.  He begins to speak softly in Elven.

Nym eyes the wolf carefully.  Making sure not to make direct eye contact, but also letting the wolf know he means it and the young lady no harm as he approaches all three.

Re: Into the depths

"Hrumph!!!!!" the dwarf clears his throat quite loudly. When he gets no reaction he isn't very surprised. "I'm willing to gamble with a duergar on the fact that the wolf ain't waking til we wake the lady. More to the point that is a high level arcane spell. Beyond anything I know myself, but give me a minute and I might have an idea."

He starts to wipe his hands together in what looks like an attempt to get ready to do something and then he throws his hands up and nothing happens. "Bet you guys thought I had that figured out. I have a better chance with getting Sune into bed than figuring this out that quick."

OOC:Got a 19 on the roll for knowledge Arcana.

Re: Into the depths

Both the wolf and the lady are in a magical slumber.  The topaz stone is the key to it.

Nym looks around.  Taking a closer look at the topaz stone itself and the immediate area around it.  Looking for something to cover the stone up with or otherwise some other key to breaking the spell.

I'm surprised at you Yacob.  You shouldn't give up that easily.

Nym teases the dwarven wizard, not in a mean and cruel way, but rather in a way to challenge him into using his intelligence and creativity to finding a solution to the mystery.

"It isn't just arcane. It is divine and something older than both. It is beyond anything I have come across but you are right the topaz is the key." he says in reply. " Given up hardly need time to think is all."

Re: Into the depths

Tracks, in your studies have you ever heard of a spell that puts a person into a "death like" state to heal them?  When I was very young I seem to remember a story about some one who was, but I can't remember all the details about it.

Nym asks as he gets close to the light surrounding both the lady and wolf.  He studies the wolf, the lady and the topaz stone closely.  Knowing he's going to have to break the light, but wondering what will happen when he does.

Don't break the light circle yet.  Give me a couple of minutes to think things through.

Re: Into the depths

It was to late Yacob had already passed his hand into the light. When he pulls it out he breathes evenly again. "Well that is good to know. The air is viscous. Which means that the gem likely won't fall on the wolf if we interfere. Healing stasis you say. It might be possible and would explain the blend of arcane and divine magics." he steps back and starts to ponder the issue. "Rivka could you be so kind as to shoot the gem with an arrow please."

"Am I sure no. But the gem is a better idea than the wolf. Need to see if it can be damaged physically. If it is that brittle than the spell is winding down. If that is the case waking her up is going to be a lot easier."

Nino had absolutely no clue what was going on. He saw the floating elf and the gem and figured the wolf was guarding the treasure. Then everybody was thinking that somebody was asleep so Nino yelled at the wolf and floating elf,

WAKE UP!!

That's not going to work Nino.  They are in a magical sleep.

Nym says as he moves close to the light again.  Then holding his breath he walks into the light.  Wanting to carry the sleeping lady out in his arms.

"Well that answers that. Physical damage won't work. Next option is magic, but I hesitate to do that because that gem looks awful heavy." he pauses and looks at Rivka. "You know more about animals. What are the odds of moving that wolf and keeping it calm?"

Zell held up his hands like somebody was going to accidentally drop a baby when Rivka fired an arrow at the gem,

"Please don't shoot that gem again." Zell cried "That thing, if it's real, can feed a village for a long time."

Then Nino yelled at the thing and startled Zell.

"No point in shooting it again. Real is a matter of perspective honestly. It is a physical object. It was likely a real normal topaz at some point. Likely has some level of arcane enhancement." the dwarf says.
