"I couldn't help overhearing you asking about Galnor Veldorn," he says in a hushed tone, giving a respectful bow which borders on obsequiousness, "This is about his nephew, I presume?"

He glances about furtively as he says this.

The young man nods silently.

"Not here," he adds, eyeing the most thuggish looking mercenary he can see surreptitiously, "Follow me."

Caled follows his gaze to the mercenary and nods knowingly. He gestures subtly to Larend as the pair follow after the youth.

The trio make their way upstairs, as the youth leads them down a panelled corridor covered in chips and dents to the second doorway on the right. He stands beside the door, throwing another furtive glance about the room before ushering them inside.

Falnis, who has slipped into the room, leans against the wall behind the curtain. Though he has a small bolt in one hand that could double as a dart if thrown, he clearly has no intention of taking any part in this fight.

No sooner have Caled and Larend entered the room, the greasy haired boy slams the door behind them. A moment later they hear a click from the lock.

The pair of knights immediately draw their blades, but even as they do so a pair of arrows whistle out from behind the wardrobe in the corner. It is all Larend can do to hastily drop to the floor as one thuds into the wall where his head was a moment earlier.

Caled finds himself facing a vicious series of blows from a bearded man in dark leather who seems to have been hiding behind the door.

OOC: Tared Garn dealt 26 points of vitality damage to Caled Aravor.

Caled manages to narrowly avoid being struck, slashing at the man with his own blade. Both his blows are easily parried.

Leaping up and over the bed, Larend lands beside the mercenary with the bow, slashing at him as fast as he can. The mercenary curses as he darts to the side. The sword takes a chunk out of the wood where the mercenary stood a moment earlier.

The curtains move slightly, but only the very keen-sighted would be able to spot this (and that is certainly none of the gentlemen fighting in this room.)

The mercenary in the corner ducks another blow from Larend as he fires a shot into unfortunate knight's shoulder. It pierces through the chainmail and the knight staggers backward, rasping for breath and clutching the wound with a blood covered gauntlet.

The dark garbed mercenary continues his attacks, but Caled is prepared for them and parries each of his blows.

Upon seeing Larend stagger backward, Caled curses, slashing with all his might. The mercenary is forced back, but parries or dodges his blows.

OOC: Caled Aravor dealt 8 points of damage to Tared Garn.

Coughing blood, Larend manages one last desperate swing at the mercenary by the window. It comes close to striking Falnis, tearing through a portion of the curtain, but fails to hit the mercenary who nimbly dodges back past the window.

OOC: Larend Talrun dealt 5 damage to Reln Calund.

The mercenary smiles coldly as Larend staggers to his knees, clutching the bed for support as he lines up a finishing shot at the knight's forehead.

Dodging past the window, it turns out, is not a good move of Reln's-- not that he has long to regret it. In a move that lends a lot of credence to all of Aerendir's and Marabir's accusations of this particular varim's real profession (and none at all to his own claim of being a harmless hunter), Falnis steps out from behind the curtains, draws two longknives in one fluid motion, and drives them into Reln's back.

The mercenary's smile morphs into a look of shock and confusion as blood begins to dribble from his own mouth. He stares helplessly at his companion for a moment before slumping lifelessly to the floor.

The pair of duelling warriors both pause to stare at the newly emerged varim. Caled seems more irritated than grateful as he glances at the deceased mercenary.

"You took your time in helping out," he says darkly.

The mercenary's eyes are just as wide as those of his dead comrade. He stares in disbelief at the scene before him.

"You...?" he manages at length.

"I would choose my next words very carefully, if I were you," Falnis advises Tared, nudging Reln's body pointedly with one boot. "And I seem to recall a certain someone ordering me not to interfere in any fights because it would be the Knights of Thane who handled any combat, should it arise," he adds, in response to Caled's accusation.

Caled sends Falnis a dirty look. Needless to say he does not grace that comment with a response. He glances with concern at Larend, who has managed to prop himself against the foot of the bed, still rasping for breath. He does not lower his sword, however, and turns back to the mercenary a moment later, "Indeed. Now, drop your sword, and then perhaps you would care to discuss the whereabouts of Galnor Veldorn and his nephew?"

The mercenary glances at his dead companion once more, then at the locked door, and finally at the window which is being blocked by the varim. He drops his blade.

"Very well," he says cautiously raising his empty hands.

"Sensible of you," Falnis says, wiping his blades off on Reln's chest and sheathing them.
