I'll try to finish tonight.

player, 3 posts Tue 29 Mar 2016 at 23:08 | OOCI would like for Ashley to already know at least one of you when the game begins if possible.
She goes out most nights looking for vampires or demons to slay. Albeit, solitary vamps or demons. As a normal human she knows her limitations and isn't going to pick a fight with a horde of them. If your character goes out hunting, you may have ran into her.
Or...have you ever been injured in an accident? Did the insurance company of the moron who caused the accident try to pay you next to nothing? Did you hire a lawyer who relentlessly harrassed the insurance company until you got the settlement you deserved? If yes, you may have retained Ashley's legal services before.

player, 2 posts Wed 30 Mar 2016 at 14:40 | OOCWho likes booze? Alex's time is spent on a few different things, including some monster hunting on the streets (downtown Brooklyn is very safe these days), but he also works as a bartender at a nice place in Battery Park. It's not glamorous, but it gives him enough money for a place to stay, no one asks too many questions, and every now and then the right sort of people come through to pick up some interesting information.

player, 4 posts Wed 30 Mar 2016 at 17:22 | OOCLack of money wouldn't prevent you from hiring Ashley. She takes your case for zero money up front, then her fee is 1/3 of whatever settlement she gets you. She gets you $3,000, then $1,000 of it goes to her. She gets you $30,000, then $10,000 of it goes to her and so on.
Ashley's been known to have an after work drink. I think her knowing Alex from stopping in to his bar could work.

player, 3 posts Wed 30 Mar 2016 at 18:00 | OOCBarry's a habitual drinker. The place being non-glamorous would actually make it more likely that he'd swing by after a long job or a tough break- he'd be looking for a bar where he could belly-up and get a drink, not a nightclub.

player, 5 posts Wed 30 Mar 2016 at 18:39 | OOCSeems like we might have a winner.
How about this:
Everybody knows Alex before the game starts since we've all been to the bar before. Then when all four of us meet for the first time, Alex will recognize everybody and handle the introductions.

Next time I run DnD, everyone will meet in a cemetery...

player, 7 posts Wed 30 Mar 2016 at 21:22 | OOCWhat actually might be interesting, is that not everyone knows the same person.
For example, if Barry does real estate for renters and for people.. on the poor side, Daphne could know him. And he knows Alex. And Alex knows Ashley as well. Daphne's got depression issues; not drinking issues though. Daphne's not a regular or social drinker; so it seems somewhat unlikely that Alex would know her that well.
More
"Her? Yeah, I've seen her around from time to time. Don't really know her deal though."
Rather than
"Oh yeah, that's Daphne. Let me introduce you."

So, are we all cool with Daphne's recent suggestion on who knows who?

Barry Creighton
player, 4 posts Tue 5 Apr 2016 at 17:15 | OOCBarry does "specialized" real estate. Some of that will, at the end of all that, be low-rent. Or small. Basically "affordable". So that works out fine.

Guys, don't take Ashley's photo too seriously. She looks quite normal. That's just a placeholder photo until I find one I'm going to submit to rpol and then use.
So boss, what's the status on us getting started?

I second that.
I managed to dodge that bullet two years ago. Got a jury duty notice, then moved to a new city before the dates came up.
