Really? Thanks... I was afraid the hand written map would be a negative...

Heck Yeah!! I love the crude drawing - looks like something I would do.  It helps get a visual on what is going on.  I DM my 18-yr old daughter and her friends in old school AD&D and I always go for the visual layout - usually with miniatures, but I have also been known to do the crude drawing.

Yes the map is very helpful. To me it captures all the info we needed, it doesn't have to be fancy. And the stat blocks being posted is also very nice.

We have a new player for Vermundr! Huzzah!!!

Everybody play nice!

The game has, sort of, just started, so there should be very little catching up required. Let me know if you have any questions!

If you get a chance, look over your character sheet and see if you have any questions.... that seems a good place to start.

Re: Intro

This is a test, I repeat, this is a test of the game system!

I would like feedback on the DM reply rate... are people feeling left out if I move too quickly? Or does the pace work for everyone?

Again, this is a test of the game system!

We now return you to your regular posting activities...

Re: Intro

I like the fast posting rate, it keeps the game moving; however, I do need to get back into that mode, Blue was so slow at times . . .

Re: Intro

FYI, I use both private and secret communications a lot. Not sure how familiar you all are, but sometimes you know it's private and sometimes you don't.

A general rule of thumb is if it is something the others do not see or hear, it will be secret, and if it is OOC-ish it will be private.

Re: Intro

I think the rate is just about right, really. As far as I can tell all the players are getting involved and staying in character. The story has been pretty entertaining and definitely has that Norse culture feel to it I was hoping for.

I find that a GM that posts a major "move" about 3-4 times per week on average is about the right rate for me. Adding maybe 1 or 2 other "answer the question" or just adding additional info type posts. When I am running a combat, I tend to post every 48 hours or so one round of results, but I answer specific questions as soon as I see them. And when I'm not running combat I tend to let the players direct the narrative and just respond to their individual actions as they are posted, unless it feels one or a few are "leaving the rest behind" and then I try to slow it down a tad to make sure everyone is contributing to each scene.

Play by post is a balancing act for all involved, really. I feel some players are shy to post thinking someone else needs to do something first. I try to encourage them to just chime in anyway, even if they feel something else was supposed to happen first, because you never know what the other player's schedule is going to be like. Trying to take turns in a specific order and waiting on others to post is a sure way for the game to go stale. But then again, if I feel one of the players (and hopefully it's never me) is dominating the game too much, as a GM I try to slow down my responses to them so that others have time to get their kicks in also. And as a player if I notice I'm doing it, I try to self regulate. But real life happens for me often enough I'm rarely "that guy."  :-)
