Re: Intro
I think the rate is just about right, really. As far as I can tell all the players are getting involved and staying in character. The story has been pretty entertaining and definitely has that Norse culture feel to it I was hoping for.
I find that a GM that posts a major "move" about 3-4 times per week on average is about the right rate for me. Adding maybe 1 or 2 other "answer the question" or just adding additional info type posts. When I am running a combat, I tend to post every 48 hours or so one round of results, but I answer specific questions as soon as I see them. And when I'm not running combat I tend to let the players direct the narrative and just respond to their individual actions as they are posted, unless it feels one or a few are "leaving the rest behind" and then I try to slow it down a tad to make sure everyone is contributing to each scene.
Play by post is a balancing act for all involved, really. I feel some players are shy to post thinking someone else needs to do something first. I try to encourage them to just chime in anyway, even if they feel something else was supposed to happen first, because you never know what the other player's schedule is going to be like. Trying to take turns in a specific order and waiting on others to post is a sure way for the game to go stale. But then again, if I feel one of the players (and hopefully it's never me) is dominating the game too much, as a GM I try to slow down my responses to them so that others have time to get their kicks in also. And as a player if I notice I'm doing it, I try to self regulate. But real life happens for me often enough I'm rarely "that guy." :-)
