Maybe just a basic Microsoft Paint type program? Sigurd is simply scratching some lines in the dirt/snow. Doesn't need to be anything fancy.

Group three is the town map. The party is approaching from the lower left. The building Sigurd mentioned in unmarked, my bad, but to the left a bit and half way into the city.

Gonna do a map of the raised area. Orcs are traveling about the town in groups of four to five. According tot he scouting report their are about thirty in the bailey with the leader and two ogres.

Is there much cover, in the way of still-standing buildings, or piled debris?  Could be useful for stealth attacks.

Yes, still quite a few half-standing buildings. a few intact. The building Sigurd recommends is a little over half intact, and leans up against a small ridge.

Couple of questions for the DM:

Is the opening where the three orcs are located a gate type situation, or has the gate been removed/damaged? Basically is it truly an opening we can walk through, assuming we deal with the orcs first?

Is there a way to scale the motte away from the three sentinels?

Is there a way for a small group to approach the three orcs at the opening, i.e., cover, etc?

Okay, there is a gate, but it is closed. The openings here are the ones created by the Jotunn when he attacked the city, places where the log wall has been knocked down.

There are plenty of opportunities to climb the motte away from the opening, which as stated are the only parts guarded by the orcs.

The purpose of the motte was defense, so anything that would have approached the concept of 'cover' would have been trimmed, pruned, burned to the ground or otherwise removed.

Okay, we seem to have stalled, and Klaengr is on limited internet right now, so I am going to try and get things moving here...

It seems like a two pronged attack is the parties desire, with Sigurd as a free roamer and Amund on the parapet.

Unless I hear otherwise, this is the plan, effective Friday evening.

Straight thru the buildings, Klaengr as the leader, Ludvig, Dragnar and Hruunwulf

Hooking to the left, Vermundr as the leader, Erik and Wulfgar
