Re: A time of ill omens

Amund swung away with both hands, however the black beast danced with demonic agility, avoiding his blows, while lashing out with both hooves, one of which struck him a heavy blow to his shoulder.

Behind him he heard Geri's bark, however he was too busy to see his might comrade keeping the undead away from the humans...

Near his shoulder, Klaengr was losing ground, but fighting back, his mighty warhammer striking a staggering blow to the should of the Napster before him! Twice the beasts hoofs hammered against his armor, but his chain mail defended him from harm!

Behind him, the charging Ludvig approached, and would soon be at his side, aiding him against his foe. (i.e. he can attack this round)

Vermunder staggered for a moment as pain shot thru his limbs, but his rage pushed him thru it, his battle axe a blur as it swung, missing once, but delivering a crushing bow to his foe, rattling it bones enough that it's return blow fell short.

A second wrack spawn closed on him however, jabbing with a spear missed him by only the width of a finger bone.

Hrunnwulf's might blade sliced thru his own foe, damaging it greatly, but he two was trapped in a vice of wrack spawns, the second of which was potent and precise with his spear!

At the furthest flank of the party, the bards weapons flash like diamonds. Mindless, the zombies and skeletons walk into the blades, each of which gets sliced by the blades, while none managed to find purchase for their attacks.

Hruuwulf feels the tip of the spear skitter along his rib and beneath his armor.  He turns forcefully in the direction that will pull the spear away, and thereby saved himself from possible a more serious wound. (Success Save)

"By Yggdrasil's bottom root!" he shouts, "That hurts!"

Gritting his teeth in determination, Hruunwulf sets the angle in his head and lashes out again at the wrackspawn, slicing blade through it.  On the return stroke, he targets the other wrackspawn.  Two against one... let's even the playing field.

Re: A time of ill omens

The son of the storm God continued to battle, though he did so from his back foot as the mounted demon continued to push him, hoofs flashing and whip cracking. As he staggered back yet another step, the familiar sight of his shield-brother's blade came from the flank, and stuck the beast down, it's form bursting into flame, and leaving only a pile of burning, foul smelling offal on the ground!

Rolling away from his mount, the Lemur rose to his feet, and turned to sprint away into the night.

As if Ludvig's approach had broken some curse, Amund found his blade slicing the shoulder of his own beast of nightmares, which pleased him to no end, pleased enough that even a glancing hoof to the shoulder did not reduce his satisfaction!

Vermundr, for all his rage, failed to connect, though both of the Wrackspawn managed to drive theirs spears into him...

Hruunwulf also faced two of the demonic undead giants, the gods smiling on his efforts, destroying one of his foes, and smashing a second blow on the second, staggering him as well...

Behind him, Dragnar continued his display of marital prowess, though none of his foes appreciated the art, they only felt the sting of his blades... the monsters continued to flail at  the bards, attempting to drag him down into the hell of their unlife, but only one of the zombies manages to get a claw thru his curtain of steel.

As the battle felt to be turning however, the Bard heard the humans behind him quail in terror, as two more of the nightmare riders and their muscluar pony mounts appeared in the darkness, intent on charging down the humans behind him!!!

Dragnar groans audibly.  None of his companions is in a position to help the humans, and if nobody helps they are surely going to be trampled.  And, it would not befit a teller of tales to have to confess his own lack of heroism in this situation.

His twirling slows as he shouts to the humans: "This way!"  He maneuvers, trying to keep one eye on the slow-witted creatures he'd been toying with and another on the advancing menace.

Re: A time of ill omens

Sigurd had apparently come awake in the middle of a nightmare, only to find that the nightmare was real. People were screaming, dying. And he was trapped here in the middle of it.

Reaching down, he picked up the blade of one of the downed enemies. No more would he allow them to herd him like a sheep. With a weapon, and with others fighting the demons and undead, there was a chance. He held his life precious, but this was a time for action or his life would be forfeit anyway.

As the demonic creatures on their hell-spawn mounts charged into the fray, Sigurd attempted to close in on them without attracting their attention, and then strike from behind as he had been trained to do.

Re: A time of ill omens

Dragnar attempts to move backward to protect the terrified humans, but they nightmarish black mounts are too fast, and one of the humans is trampled to death, while the demon upon it's back laughed maniacally! His eyes spot a movement in the darkness behind the furthest Napster, a flicker that turns into a dirty, battered looking human who has picked up a broadsword and lunged forward, slicing the creatures head clear from it's shoulder, the demon mount rolling forward thru the dirt with an angry howl!

The woman who had been in the direct path of the beast shrieked and fainted...

Trying to watch every direction at once however, left the bard in harms way, the skeleton and the two zombies (moaning "brains!") struck home repeatedly, though several blows were diverted by his armor.

Geri raced towards the fallen demon, and was clearly going to launch himself at the fearsome dark shape momentarily...

Not far from the bard, Hrunnwulf's victory cry rang out, as his powerful blade swung from one victory to the next, destroying his second foe! With no immediate foes before him, he took a breath and surveyed the battle field, hungry for more glory...

Not far from him, the ferocity of Vermunder's fiery rage sliced thru one of his foes, his blade then shattering three of his other foes ribs! His rage left him open to the creatures return thrust, another spear piercing his form!

Ludvig attempted to slash at the retreating demon, but his blow came up short. Klaengr took stock of his situation, and surveyed the battle with his keen strategic eye.

Out in the shade of the night, Amund's weapons crush bone and slash flesh, severely injuring the demon-mount, though t he creatures hoofs returned the favor, both striking the warrior's chest.

Suddenly the sound of combat was overshadowed by a deep, booming voice from the darkness, coming from quite some height above the combatants...

"Fee, fie foe, fum..."

Sigurd's sword sheared clear through the demonic mount's neck. As the young man recovered his balance from the powerful swing, he dropped low in the darkness and pulled his battered cloak around him, seeking once again to disappear into the shadows of the battlefield.

He recited a prayer to Loki in his mind that this trick would work and the demon would not be able to detect him once it rose from its fall.
