Re: A time of ill omens

Inspired by the other man's action, Wulfgar picks up a skeletons bastard sword and turns to face one of the demons. moving into position, he swings at it with a powerful two-handed strike, but misses. Wulfgar's onehanded backswing hits, however, and strikes the creature hard.

With the skeletons in pieces, Vermundr collapses to the ground, back arched with 2 spear tips still penetrating his ribcage. A sound of both pain and rage erupts from his lips.  Still clutching his axe he attempts to remove the spear tips but is far too weak to even grip them.

Re: A time of ill omens

Hearing the bard not far from him to the south, Hruunwulf turns in that direction and is barely able to discern the shape of a skeleton and two zombies.  The axe would hurt the skeleton, but would devastate a zombie.  Zombies, however, were more risky to tangle with for fears of a paralyzing touch. Still, this thought last only the briefest moment in his mind, merely a reminder of the dangers.  He launches into a charging attack at the first zombie he can see with his axe.

"GLORY IN BATTLE!" he cries as the axe head tears into decaying flesh and bone.

Re: A time of ill omens

The last of the undead who had fallen sway to the will of Aegir thru the auspices of the Storm-Priest fall silently into the vast chasm behind the battling warriors.

While perhaps only Sigurd (an as yet unknown ally who had provided service is dropping one of the Napsters before vanishing back into the shadow) noticed that another of the cowed humans, one Wulfgar, a recently met, and ill-starred mercenary who had also fallen into the slavery of their foes, also pick up a sword and charge back into the fray.

Nearly surrounded, Dragnar takes a quantum of solace from the fact that the demon-creatures hurtled passed him when it trampled the defenseless human female, for the moment allowing him to focus his weapon on the less terrifying foes...

The three faces of death close hungrily on Dragar, clearly a large source of brains, with delight, only for the closest one to suddenly be rent asunder by Hrunnwulf's mighty swing. The zombie glances down, confused, and looks to Dragnar, perhaps for some answer as to why death had reclaimed him when he was so close to his first warm meal in days, then it falls to the ground, inert.

The remaining zombie, perhaps out of some undead loyalty, or simply because the stoic warriors offers more in fleshy flesh flesh for consumption, turns to the new foe, but fails to connect.

The skeleton, clearly a more focused fellow (or lady, no time to check the pelvic bone now), continues his assault on Dragnar, slicing him again with it's long sword!

Unbeknownst the bard, a dark, demonic shadow has gained it's feet, and is now stalking him from the shadows...

"Aroooo..." Geri drives himself towards the mount before him, but he falls with a howl of pain beneath the trampling, fiery hoofs of the beast, the demon upon his back laughing in pleasure at the pain caused, though it's own whip fails to connect with the injured animals hide!

Another victory for the side of darkness is struck as a wrackspawn pierces Vermundr's flesh, and from the agonizing scream that rips from the taciturn warriors lips, it may have pierced his very soul, as he drops to both knees and howls into the night.

Ludvig, at the edge of the light, is torn between aiding his warrior companion, or keeping to the side of Klaengr, however some small voice within him noticed that the priests has turned away from the Berserker. He could not bring himself to do the same, his bond-brother perhaps dying in agony before him.

Bounding into battle, his blade swung true and hard, shattering many of the undead giant's bones, but the Wrackspawn gave as good as got, pulling his spear free of Vermundr, spinning in and bracing it to take the charge, piercing Ludvig thru the gut!

Klaegnr had a bond with his long time friend Amund however, and he could not leave his... different? friend alone in the night. Between them, they drove the fell-beast to it's knees, and it's demise. It's rider was not taken off guard however, dropping to his feet and lashing out with his whip, the satanic leather strap raking skin from Amund's face. The demon showed no fear, and simply laughed a demonic challege at the two of them...

Sigurd smiles to himself as the lemure he dismounted moves toward the light, rather than coming looking for him. He moves methodically, trying not to attract its notice, but doesn't go out of his way to be completely silent. He hopes there is enough noise from the battle to keep the creature distracted as he approaches it, sword ready to strike at it from behind.

OOC: If Sigurd can reach the lemure headed toward Dragnar unnoticed, he will attempt another backstab at it. If he is noticed, just a regular attack...

Re: A time of ill omens

The dismounted Demon-Slaver smiled a gruesome smile, ichor and puss dripping from it's jagged teeth, and strode towards the back of the Dragnar, hesitating only when it reached the edge of the sphere of sunlight. It clearly found that distasteful, and in his moments pause, the valiant red-headed youth who had slain his mount lunged from the shadows in an attempt to attack, unfortunately, the spot where the thought the demon would have been had he continued to advance. With a sardonic shrug the demon brought his whip down across the back of the ragged youth, lash-marks joining those received on the long, grueling journey here...

Meanwhile, Dragnar's skeletal foe proved itself a canny foe, avoiding the incoming blows, but failing to connect with one of it's own. Perhaps he had been Dragnar in a previous life?

The bard's spirits were lifted as he watched Hrunnwulf's blade bring down the remaining Zombie, and hoped the warrior would turn his attention to his own foe next.

While Ludvig gritted his teeth against the agony sent coursing thru his veins by the Wrackspawn's venom, Vermunder staggered to his feet. Dazed, he struck out at the foul abomination, failing to strike home, but managing to fend off the creatures blow aimed at his weakened body, one that would almost certainly have ended his life!

Surprised at the slave turned warrior of vengeance, the charging Lemur's mount rears, fiery hooves lashing out against the muscular giant of a man whose bastard sword slashed and sliced it to within an inch of it's life. Arrogantly the demon rider dismissed the mount with a snap of his fingers, sending it back to their unholy home, slashing out with his whip of domination. The warrior stepped quickly out of range, then lunged forward again, showing no fear at the face of eternal damnation itself...

Meanwhile, Amund and Klaengr struggled against their hell-spawned foe, their weapons either missing completely or bouncing off his tough, melting-tar like hide. His eyes danced with flame and he squawked something akin to 'Humans, slaves!' and a maniacal laugh, his whip striking out painfully against the Scion of the Storm's shoulder!

As if things hadn't gone bad enough for the doughty band of warriors, a whistling noise came from the darkness, louder, then louder still! Most everyone ducked in panic as a boulder as larger as a two story house came out of the darkness, soured over the combat, and flew into the fjord beyond, landing with a horrendous crash, water rising from the depths and dousing everyone except Klaengr and Amund in nearly frozen, salt watery sea water. Geri whimpered at the sting of the salt water on his wounds, while seeking out a deep hole in which to wait out the battle...

Fighting toe to toe is not Sigurd's preferred method of dealing with threats, but the demon leaves him little choice. He recoils momentarily as the whip slashes into his flesh, but he ignores the burning of the wound and presses his attack as the massive stone flies over the battlefield.

He circles back toward the darkness, testing the lemure's defenses.

Just as he sees an opening and lunges for it, the torrent of sea water shot up by the hurled stone splashes down, knocking him off balance and ruining his chance to strike.

Re: A time of ill omens

Amund cheered that with a thousand other men would dread, the arrival of the Jotunn leader who commanded the forces that had been driving the humans toward the fjord. Slicing and dicing, he drove into the demon-scourge that stood between him and his desired foe, drving the creature back a step, then a second the down to one knee, where Klaengr's War-Hammer drove down thru the skull, smashing the spark of life from the creature, which returned to the form from which it had sprung, blood, guts, manure and Jotunn jizz, the components of the powerful wizardly that had bound the demon-spirit to this plane and bound it to the Jotunn's will...

Vermundr dropped to one knee, gather his breath and energy for the next challenge, now that Ludvig had destroyed the last of the Wrackspawn, further evidence that this Jotunn had the powers of a necromancer to go with his Jotunn form.

Fjord-ward, Wulfgar downed the last of the demon mounts, and now stood face to face with the demon who had destroyed his home, and had striven to drive them all to a watery death in the fjord itself. Not long ago the death had seemed perhaps much to be desired, now the warrior desired only revenge, a desire so powerful that the sting of slavers lash seemed almost as fuel for his burning internal fire!

Across the battlefield Dragnar had seen the toss of a dice, in the form of Hrunnwulf, had changed what he had so recently thought was to be his fate from dire to... something less so, the last of the zombies and skeletons now hacked to bits on the field of combat.

Aware there had been a threat behind him, the bard nimbly spun around and lashed out, striking the demon who had turned to pursue the raggedy human that had dared rise from its servitude to slay his mount and now dared to face the demon itself. Taking advantage of his position to the creatures rear, Dragnar drove his blade deep into the demons fiery spine, slaying it instantly, much to the red-haired man delight, despite the disgusting form the demons body took now that it was no longer held together by fell magics and satanic ire!

Off in the distance, Geri licked at his wounds...
