Re: A time of ill omens

Amund cheered that with a thousand other men would dread, the arrival of the Jotunn leader who commanded the forces that had been driving the humans toward the fjord. Slicing and dicing, he drove into the demon-scourge that stood between him and his desired foe, drving the creature back a step, then a second the down to one knee, where Klaengr's War-Hammer drove down thru the skull, smashing the spark of life from the creature, which returned to the form from which it had sprung, blood, guts, manure and Jotunn jizz, the components of the powerful wizardly that had bound the demon-spirit to this plane and bound it to the Jotunn's will...

Vermundr dropped to one knee, gather his breath and energy for the next challenge, now that Ludvig had destroyed the last of the Wrackspawn, further evidence that this Jotunn had the powers of a necromancer to go with his Jotunn form.

Fjord-ward, Wulfgar downed the last of the demon mounts, and now stood face to face with the demon who had destroyed his home, and had striven to drive them all to a watery death in the fjord itself. Not long ago the death had seemed perhaps much to be desired, now the warrior desired only revenge, a desire so powerful that the sting of slavers lash seemed almost as fuel for his burning internal fire!

Across the battlefield Dragnar had seen the toss of a dice, in the form of Hrunnwulf, had changed what he had so recently thought was to be his fate from dire to... something less so, the last of the zombies and skeletons now hacked to bits on the field of combat.

Aware there had been a threat behind him, the bard nimbly spun around and lashed out, striking the demon who had turned to pursue the raggedy human that had dared rise from its servitude to slay his mount and now dared to face the demon itself. Taking advantage of his position to the creatures rear, Dragnar drove his blade deep into the demons fiery spine, slaying it instantly, much to the red-haired man delight, despite the disgusting form the demons body took now that it was no longer held together by fell magics and satanic ire!

Off in the distance, Geri licked at his wounds...

Re: A time of ill omens

Klaengr pleaded with Amund, pointing at the other Lemure nearby, "Come Amund, let us go kill this other Jotunn jizz loving abomination before us! And then its disgusting creator!"

He waits to see what Amund does, and follows his lead regardless.

OOC Klaengr pointed at the nearest Lemure, but if Amund does something else, Klaengr follows along and lends a bad swing and a miss at whatever it is.

19:19, Today: Klaengr Aegirson rolled 4,3 using 1d20,1d6+1.  Attack vs whatever target Armund goes for.

Sigurd grins as the demon's form collapses on Dragnar's blade. "My thanks, friend. I thought the dwimmerlaik to be beyond my ability to slay. I'm in no rush to face whatever threw that stone, but fate wills as fate wants."

Sigurd will move back from the lighted area, and begin making his way around the circle of illumination clock-wise. While not trying to advertise his presence, he also feels speed may be more important than ensuring he remains unnoticed.

OOC: not trying to hide in shadows/move silently, just sticking to the darkness to be less conspicuous.

Amund looked around trying to find the Jotunn that was storming towards them.  He holds up his mace:  "Here, Jotunn, Jotunn; Amund has a present for you!"

Klaengr's plea to kill the lemure brings Amund back to the present and he swings the mace wildly at the lemure near them - but misses due to distractions.  Then he focusses on the lemure and swings his blade with much better accuracy.

Vermundr collapses onto one knee, catching himself with his axe.

"Thor, give me strength", he cries to the heavens.  Slowly, shaking, he rises to his feet and looks around at the battlefield before him.  Bleeding, exhausted, near collapse, he battles with himself..."Flee or fight?"

Fleeing is never an option....

Hruunwulf, upon seeing the formidable sized opponent, gapes with a slack jaw.  How will we kill this thing, he wonders, gripping his axe tightly.

"Noth'n to it, but to do it."  he mutters with a wide grin at Dragnar, then he charges the Jotunn.  He crosses the field of battle, raising his axe for a serious draw down, his feet kicking up clods of dirt behind him.

16:49, Today: Hrunnwulf Jorgaldsen rolled 1,12,14,16 using d20,d20,d8+8,d8+8.  Hruunwulf charge attacks the Jotunn.

I did not apply any "charging" bonuses or penalties to the rolls.

Vermundr knows that he cannot face this beast with any chance of success.  While dying in battle against one of these accursed beasts would be relief, he would simply stand no chance in the state he is in.  He needs time to collect himself.  Seeing that the others have already begun to engage the beast he takes a moment to steady his breathing.  Leveling his gaze upon the beast he launches an axe into the air....

On the Hunt

The fog whirls around the giant's legs, feet well thirty feet apart, his head a mere shadow up in the night sky, huge horns sticking out, assumed to be a helmet, but perhaps... something else.

Chains can be seen wrapped around his legs and chest, though they do not seem to bind or constrict him in any way. Cages hang from the chains, and across his back an entire dragon ship swings in the wind, it's main-mast snapped, the corpses of slave rowers still hanging from the galley...

Hrunnwulf charges forward, lacking nothing in courage, though some might wonder if lacking in wit... it is only as he charges that he realizes how large be being really is, his charge not bringing him near to swinging distance, though he was certain it would, as had Vermundr, whose throwing axe rose, rose them fell, well short of the giant, the range misguided by the unbelievable size of the foe.

Singing a song of confidence and pride, Amund hurls the gift of Hel at the giant, a heavy mace that should have had no chance of reaching one fifth the distance to the giant, but as it flies it begins to hum, and unnaturally pick up speed. Rising up it catches the giants eye. With a booming laugh he reaches out to swat it aside, only to cry out in pain as the missile ripped into, then thru the skin between his thumb and index finger, flying past him into the darkness... the first blow has been struck, and not as the giant had expected.

Behind him Sigurd feverishly searched about for weapons he can launch from a distance. Only three spears and a javelin come to hand. Gauging Hrunnwulf's  progress, he knows he is still well out of range, but he feels better for the weapons in his hand.

Klaengr and his hard bitten shield-man Ludvig took a deep breath, and with an abiding rebellious cry charged behind Hrunnwulf, while Wulfgar, with less flash but no less courage, slid into the shadows and moved towards the beast that had destroyed his home and family...

When things seemed darkest... they found a way to get darker, a second figure, rising from the shadows, if anything larger than the giant you  face before you, standing at his shoulder, approaching out of the night as well, eyes red with flame, flesh black as night...

Klaengr was stunned, looking dumbstruck as the gigantic creatures shrug off blows that would fell the hardiest warriors of the north-lands. He shrugged his shoulders and looked with regret at Amund and Ludvig. A fools errand it had been to come here. Diving for cover behind some brush and a stump, Klaengr began to pray in earnest.

"Aegir, if your will is for us to survive this day, my brothers in arms, and  your loyal priest, then show us a sign. Show us a way to defeat these insurmountable foes. Let us be your hand, your weapon, in avenging the north-men these Jotunn have murdered. Do not let us go gently into the night forever. But if we are to go to the abyss, let us take these vermin with us!"
