Necropolis

So Azalin set off the Doomsday Device and he turned all of Il Aluk into a city of undead. All of you are now undead and need to decide what type of undead you are going to be.

Nymeria you will need to be a Lich!
Charani: you have a choice between the following: ghost, vampire, wraith, specter, ghast, ghoul, zombie or skeleton...

In reply to DMJW (msg # 1):

Panian urges the others to head back quickly to meet with Nichia, Charani, Nymeria and Vito. He is filled with worry for his friends, hoping for them to be alive and healthy, but the more he witnesses of the city the more he accepts and begins to prepare himself for what his friends have become. "Damn this entire city," He mutters, and is surprised at the abrasive whisper that his voice sounds like. It's starkly different than before, thin and otherworldly. He thinks about his friends again. What if the trance was protection from the Doomsday device? He tries to reassure himself... but, If even righteous Theodoric could go from a holy man to a decaying Wizard of the dead, what awaits his other friends? The creatures of darkness that he passes should fill him with dread, but he welcomes their negative energy. He sees the other dead in the city eyeing him with their strange eyes and feels a sense of welcome for their hatred. It is a strange tugging at his being, this abstract idea of vengeance that seems as though it must be fulfilled. He shakes it away the best he can, but his mind keeps coming back to it. Whatever he felt through the ideals of the Blood Oath to protect Nymeria is now a near overwhelming obsession. He feels driven to return, and doesn't even realize that he is often ignoring obstacles in his way, just simply passing through them.

In reply to Panian (msg # 2):

Theodoric is becoming aware of some of the powers he has on this new form. He dislikes it. The temptation to use certain powers may be corrupting to his soul. He does not speak his concerns aloud at this time,  but he recalls the corruption of Vampire Panian and Mokellos. He looks around at the members of the group and ponders how becoming Undead may affect the souls of his friends... even Remos's soul... and even his own. He has learned that even those whof are "good" carry a tiny kernel of evil within. Under the right circumstance,  that kernel grows. In Ravenloft, the soil is fertile for corruption. Now, in this city of the dead, where new and tempting powers avail, corruption is a greater risk then ever.
Theo quickly resolves himself to remain focused on restoring himself and his friends to their living forms before they become unrecognizable.
Silently, he hurries with Ghost Panian toward Nichia's house.

Game maps are loaded with the map of the area you are in! Let me know if you can see them. The one is set as the main map and then if you scroll down to the bottom you can selected the second part of the map. I hope this works because it will add another level of rpol playing!!!

Loranys is extremely anxious. Her friends visages are literally ghastly. Her deathly screech, like a rusted gate opening to the underworld, has her frightened into silence. She hurries to keep up with Panian and Theo. She wants to be within arms' reach of Theo at all times.

Panian is interested in seeing what Block Ten and the Reaper's Chapel is as they pass them on the way back to the Hovel. Anything interesting of note? Any activity that seems strange? If of any importance, could I have a description of the scene we pass as we go by? Depending, Panian may have a look-see...

Reaper's Chapel:
This dead-end street leads to a small chapel with a domed roof. Its stained glass windows show images of a grim reaper using a scythe to cut down skeletal figures rising from the ground. Through the open doors of the chapel come the sounds of a hymn being sung.

A stream of figures files silently past you, headed toward the chapel. Some are mere skeletons while others have the waxy skin and staring eyes of zombies. One turns to pluck at your sleeve.

"Come," it whispers. "The priests will tell us how to escape this purgatory. With their help, we can return to our former lives."

I took this approach as if you went North from Grim Fastness going to Nichia's hovel. If you went east, then North, you would go to Block Ten first...if that is the case let me know and I will give you info about Block Ten. You would have to pass one or the other....you wouldn't probably walk past both???

Hallid walks with his "dead" head down and looks totally defeated. You hear him muttering about not being able to save Joey and how this is his fault. He keeps repeating that he would do anything to get Joey back. He seems to be in some type of funk and even Krysnys can't get through to him.

In reply to Hallid (msg # 9):

Loranys is starting to panic. Much like how, in her "alive" state, she can't control her impulsiveness, now in her wraith state she can't control her anxiety. The image of the Grim Reaper, the whispered invitations to join them (and who are they?) in the chapel, and Hallid's despair have all conspired against her ability to stay calm. She starts making a raspy, horrid breathing sound--her wraith's equivalent to hyperventalating. She grasps Theo's upper arm and buries her head in his shoulder.

In reply to DMJW (msg # 8):

I figured we would have gone North, so logically if we are headed to N.'s Hovel, we would have just seen the Temple.

Panian stops for a minute, observing. The last thing he wants to do is go into another temple in this cursed town. He thinks back to when he was the only one who disagreed with going to the last place. Religion has never quite been his way, and at each temple or ceremony he has been to as of late, he has simply become further solidified with this belief. To him, the only spiritual being whom has done anything remotely good is Lelothot, but he is somewhat skeptical of her. While she did give Nymeria the key to bring him back, at what cost? He felt a marked difference in her last time they communed. She has lost a finger, he eyes are white. She has consumed eyes and bathed in blood and he felt all of that in his last commune. Religion in any form has shown to corrupt... He moves on from this place and hopes the others follow his whispy form.

Theodoric puts an arm around Loranys in an attempt to comfort her.

"Let's press on to Nichia's house to find Charani and Nymeria. Then we shall have to come back here to find out what this zombie is talking about."

If the others watch Theodoric, they will see his lips moving silently as if he is speaking. He is repeating a prayer or mantra.

Softly only to Loranys, he says "Your despair is valid, but this is not our fate. We will either find our way back to the world of the living or we shall find the final peace that we have earned. In either case, we will get away from this Hell together. Have courage."

Meanwhile in the Hovel...

Charani's eyes fly open.  But the dark things she has seen in her vision are nothing compared to the lich sitting next to her.  Her first reaction is to back into a corner where she can observe and attack the lich if necessary, not trusting that it is Nymeria.  She catches a glimpse of herself in a nearby bucket of water.  Her eyes are red, her face is grey and wisp-like, shifting, changing.  She touches the water to be sure of her reflection, only for the water to turn to ice.  Desperate, she goes to find if Goya is still in the hovel.

Once arriving at the hovel, Krysnys attempts to enter in search of her friends and finds she is unable to do so. So, she just stands outside looking dejected.

She is struggling that Hallid is barely responsive, this is all their fault, and she doesn't even care that she is a vampire now. It doesn't matter. None of it matters.

In reply to Theodoric (msg # 16):

You find Charani and Nymeria back at the hovel but at first glance you notice that Goya and Grandmother Nichia are not there. Nymeria and Charani have no idea where they went because they were in a trance the whole time.

When you search around looking for clues as to what has happened, you find a note that has been fixed to the pantry door with a worn looking paring knife:
"Alas, the worst has come to pass. Midnight brought not death, but a mockery of life. Eternal rest in a coffin would have been preferable to this vile form. My own son is terrified of me and has run away. I tried to wake up Charani and Nymeria from their trances and could not get any response. My sole concern now is to find Goya, I have no desire to help you until my darling boy is back in my arms. I am sorry, but I have to get him back. I have gone to search for Goya in the only places in this city that he knows. If you wish to join me in this search, use the broom. The aid which I promised is not possible in this place. I was able to restore myself to life for a moment, but then blackness swept over me, and when I awoke, I was a creature of death once more. I have resolved to leave this city of restless spirits and find a land that is not so tainted before trying again. Follow me and find me, I may be able to help you!!!"

Panian heads straight for Nymeria and Charani. He is shocked for a moment at their strange appearance and is overcome when he sees Nymeria's once soft Elven features twisted by death and decay. Composing himself, his Ethereal, haunting voice fills the room

"What happened?! Can you tell us anything about what happened? What was the trance you were in?"
