Re: Day 4 - Lance Rock Part 2

Hearing the paladin's words, Mayon can't get a good look around the corner at the undead, at least not enough to reliably attack. For now he touches a hand to his armor and murmurs softly, his armor seeming to shimmer briefly before fading back to plain leather. He wants to feel a little sturdier this time.

Mayon is using his Armor of Shadows invocation to cast Mage Armor on himself without using a spell slot or materials.

Re: Day 4 - Lance Rock Part 2

The three Bram points out look like barely-clad skeletons, and like the other corpses in the room they lay motionless.

You're all free to move into the room, and I'll give you a surprise round with advantage if you intend to attack them. If that's the plan just post where you're moving to and which one you're attacking.

Re: Day 4 - Lance Rock Part 2

At Bram's hushed words, Dweeble pulled a pair of daggers from her belt and quietly shuffled where she stood, making sure to keep Morg between where she stood and the nearest undead creatures that still lay in wait.  She swiped her dagger eagerly in the air between herself and the dwarf, making mock strikes in preparation for a fight.  She leaned forwards after a moment and whispered simply to Morg, "Keep Dweeble safe, yeah yeah?  She's been a good girl, after all."

Dweeble's going to be following Morg if he steps foot further inside.  Other than that, she pulled two daggers out and is waiting to use them.

Bram carefully moved out into the middle of the room and readied himself to smash a skeleton against the stone wall with his axe.  "Attack on the count of three?" he suggested.

Morg slowly moves towards one of the skeletons Bram pointed out, taking out his warhammer. He holds out his shield in his left hand a bit to give Dweeble more cover, and waits for Bram's countdown.
Move: 10' (half speed to not make a noise) to BG49, facing #2.

When the way clears a bit, Mayon moves up and takes his own position, magic at his hands as usual.

Once Morg's moved, Mayon will move up to BE51 and ready to Eldritch Blast #1.

Re: Day 4 - Lance Rock Part 2

After following Morg into the room, Dweeble turned her back to his and lowered her stance.  Her eyes were focused on the undead in front of her now that Bram had pointed out, her daggers each held reverse-grip and poised to strike.  As the others moved into position, she gave a low grunt of effort and lunged forwards.  Her blades swept down in a deadly arc at her target before she pulled them away with another vicious grunt of effort.  She flipped her daggers around in her hands, prepared now for a more typical stab and slash in case the creature stood up from her initial assault.

"One... two... three!"  On the final number Bram brought his axe down upon the inert skeleton before him.  He readied his shield in case any of the undead monsters awoke and attempted to claw him or his allies.

Battleaxe attack on Skeleton 3: 12 vs. AC for 6 slashing on a hit
  • 19:42, Today: Bramwell Caulder rolled 6 using 1d8+3.  Battleaxe damage.
  • (EDIT: added a worse second roll for advantage) 01:10, Today: Bramwell Caulder rolled 10 using 1d20+5 with rolls of 5.  Battleaxe attack (advantage second roll).
  • 19:40, Today: Bramwell Caulder rolled 12 using 1d20+5 with rolls of 7.  Battleaxe attack.

Also, if any ally within 5 feet of me is attacked, use my reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack via Protection fighting style.  This will be standard procedure for every combat round from now until forever :P

Re: Day 4 - Lance Rock Part 2

Morg, recognizing Bram's shield stance, moves closer to him and then brings down his warhammer on the unmoving skeleton(s).
Move: 5' from BG49 to BG50.

Action: attack S2 with warhammer - hits AC 26 (critical) for 22! bludgeoning.

Action surge: attack S2 if it's not destroyed (or if it's destroyed, then attack S3 instead) with warhammer - hits AC 22 for 12 bludgeoning.

From "lay motionless", I'm assuming the skeletons are prone, so attacks from within 5' have advantage while those from farther away get disadvantage until they stand up. In Morg's case it doesn't matter because the first roll of the first attack was a 20, and both rolls for the action surge was 16.

08:50, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 26 using 2d20+6, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 20,11.  Attack prone S2 (advantage) with warhammer.

08:52, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 22 using 2d8+6 with rolls of 8,8.  Warhammer bludgeoning damage to S2, critical hit.

08:57, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 22 using 2d20+6, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 16,16.  Attack prone S2 or S3 (advantage) with warhammer.

08:57, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 12 using 1d8+6 with rolls of 6.  Warhammer bludgeoning damage to S2 or S3.

Re: Day 4 - Lance Rock Part 2

At three, Bram's axe misses the mark and gets stuck in one of the other decaying corpses. Yet it hardly matters - Dwebble nimbly shatters one skeleton, and Morg's two crushing hammer blows scatter undead bones all over the floor.

Bram no longer senses an undead presence in this room.

150 XP total --> 37.5 XP each for the group.

Divine Sense worked out well indeed!

What now?

Morg cleans his hammer, and then looks around to see if there's anything other than bodies while decapitating the remaining corpses with a handaxe to make it harder to reanimate them.

"Well, remind me not to get on your bad side." Mayon says with a slight laugh at how quickly that situation was cleared up, beginning to take a look around as well, to make sure this room really was a dead end.

07:36, Today: Mayon Graycross rolled 7 using 1d20+4 with rolls of 3.  Perception.
Was trying to look for any sign of a hidden entrance but I guess not.

Mayon and Morg search the cave, both choking on the stench of rotting bodies as they are disturbed. Eyes watering as they search, they turn up nothing but scraps of clothing and a few old, rusted shortswords. The cave walls appear solid and thick.

Re: Day 4 - Lance Rock Part 2

Sheathing one of her daggers, Dweeble turned her grip on the remaining weapon in her right hand, holding it more like a butter knife than a weapon as she knelt down.  Quickly, she began to check the walls and floors, shifting around the various loose skeleton and wasted undead parts as she searched the knooks and crannies in the room.  She remembered Mayon's words, even if they'd been previously lost in her hunger for loot, and the lack of commitment to the attack prior had obviously set off her suspicions.  She didn't make a sound as she worked, using her blade to ping the walls in case something was hidden or sliding the edge in the grooves in search of a trigger or edge that would open something.

Dweeble is checking the room, as much as she can quickly, for a false door, a trapped mechanism, or anything else implying that there is more to the area than the obvious paths.
12:15, Today: Secret Roll: Dweeble rolled 15 using 1d20+3 with rolls of 12.  Perception, false passages.

"Aye," Morg says,  "the eastern tunnel sounds good.

Bram, do you want to join me up front since it's less likely we'll get attacked from behind now? Or I could take a turn protecting our rear."

Re: Day 4 - Lance Rock Part 2

Jak had stayed at the back once again. He kept checking behind them as they moved to make sure nothing was sneaking up on them. The attack on the undead happened fast. He had just gotten in to the cave when the strike happened and the undead were downed. He shrugged and chuckled. His friends were quick and effective.

He frowned at finding the cave pretty much empty and a dead end, pun including with the skeletons in there! He gave a nod to heading back to check out the eastern cave. "Nothin' t'keep us in this cave."

Re: Day 4 - Lance Rock Part 2

The group exits the corpse-filled cave, then retraces their steps back through the narrow tunnels towards the large cavern they discovered the previous day. Though the narrow corridors remain seemingly unchanged and quiet, the oppressive weight of the rock seems to press in on them as they advance cautiously.

Reaching the room where three zombies were grotesquely costumed, they step past the still rotting corpses on the floor of the cave and take the passage to the left leading southeast.

The passage bends slowly to the right as it meanders its way through the rock. Though it is wider than the passage that led to the rockfall, it still necessitates the party to move through single file.

Map updated.

Let me know if you want to change marching order at all.

Bram nods at Morg's suggestion, "Yes.  Considering that these creatures are inclined toward ambush and the special capacity for the detection of undead bestowed upon me by Deneir, I will volunteer to lead."  He then advanced to the front and asked the dwarf,  "Will you follow second or act as rear-guard, Morg?  You are welcome at my side, but we were flanked once before.  I shall leave it to you."

Once that was decided, he began to advance warily at the head of the column but behind the cover of his candle-and-eye emblazoned shield.

Re: Day 4 - Lance Rock Part 2

Jak stayed behind Morg and Bramwell, content to let them lead while he kept an eye out for traps and ambush. He expected that they would run in to more undead, but also he suspected that the so-called 'lord' would be making an appearance soon too. "Be ready. We gotta run into the Lord at some point I imagine."
