Episode 02, Scene 01: Back to Safeton

The journey back to Safeton is pleasantly eventless. The crew follows orders and everyone has a chance to rest a little after the exertions of the last couple of days. Man of Iron remains inert, and you decide to move him into the captain's quarters where he won't be so conspicuous.

The boat is met outside the harbor by a rowboat carrying the harbor pilot and Dame Gold has a quick conversation with the two men that accompany him. They proceed ahead of the ship while the pilot navigates the ship into the docks. Apparently, they alerted the town guard, because there is a squad waiting to take the slaver crew into custody when the ship arrives.

As those arrangements are made, Dame Gold thanks the group again. "I thank you again for the rescue. I'm afraid my manor is lost, but I have a small residence here in town where my people and I can stay. It isn't much, but it would please me to offer you my hospitality while you are in town. It's the least I can do."

If you have any stresses, they are automatically reduced by one step. You can then attempt a recovery roll to clear those further. Complications and Assets clear. If you have a power shutdown that recovers at a transition scene, it recovers (I'm looking at you Reynarde ;-)

I know you had some plans in town. I'm happy to RP those a bit rather than just tell you what happens. Let me know if it starts dragging and I need to move things along.

In reply to Watcher (msg # 1):

Varik nodded to Dame Gold, still watching the ex-slavers very carefully. "Is this other home safe? They may be alert to what we have done, and may come after you and your people."

Jean smiles at Varik when he asks that question. "My dear Varik, by virtue of our being there, the place will be safe. Or safer, as the case may be. My dear lady, we would be delighted to take you up on your kind offer. Please give us a few minutes to arrange a few matters among ourselves."

He then waves Varik over to talk with Calelon, Lystra, and Reynarde. "So, friends, what's our next steps? We could rest this evening and, as Varik was saying, help protect Dame Gold from any repercussions from the slavers. Then what?"

As usual, Lystra stays on the periphery of the group as they travel, keeping an eye toward their surroundings and anything that could lurk in shadows. When addressed, she nods with a focused, furrowed brow but keeps her mouth closed and her bow tight in her fist.

In reply to Jean Esperon (msg # 3):

Varick frowns at Jean's optimistic statement. "I have my doubts about that. In any case, we need to take the fight to the slavers. There are others who need liberation, and then we must insure such crimes are never committed again. We wont be able to protect the Lady and her people forever."

Calelon says very little.  He never been to these places before and so feels he cannot say.
Human, slaves, tiles.  He had read about them in books but never seen this first hand.
He was getting very good idea why he should go back home and leave this grimy place to humans.
He did however agree to help Jean.  So he stay.

He just Nods his head in agreement with Jean.

Jean looks at Varik with an eyebrow raised. "How did 'this evening' turn into 'forever'? Am I speaking Draconic, here? You are clearly not grasping my meaning.

"I ask my question again: after we rest tonight, what's our next step? Where do we go?"

In reply to Jean Esperon (msg # 7):

"We try to insure the lady and her people's safety as much as we can. Maybe she stays with whoever is in charge, assuming they are not in league with the slavers." He shrugged. "Then we make one of these pirate scum tell us where the slaver's den is-and we go to finish them off."

Episode 02, Scene 01: Back to Safeton
Arriving at the docks of Safeton fails to fill Reynarde with the sense of ease and safety. He personally observes as the slavers, now prisoners, disembark and contemplates how to get Man of Iron the assistance needed, though his gaze drifts to the nearby marketplace where merchants hawk wares to those of "higher status". The scene kindles a memory of his grandfather and his opinion of "society"...

"They will try to convince you to wear chains of gold but commerce is just another word for slavery, Reynarde...do not be fooled into embracing those shackles..."

Reynarde's nostalgic reverie is broken abruptly as Jean and Varik approach.

Jean Esperon:
"So, friends, what's our next steps? We could rest this evening and, as Varik was saying, help protect Dame Gold from any repercussions from the slavers. Then what?"

Reynarde listens to the modest exchange between the others, nodding in agreement with Varik for the most part. After musing for a moment he adds, "One night's rest would do wonders but I would not worry overmuch regarding the Dame's safety - those who assailed her are either dead or imprisoned. She is as safe as any other as long as the Slave Masters continue to operate. We cost them a ship and a shipment of slaves...this evening I would like nothing more than work out how we intend to put an end to the rest of their operation..."

OOC: Note - I do not have 4 PP, I just have one...I didn't edit my bio details prior to posting so it's still displaying my PP total from last scene. I corrected it and will display proper amount by next posting. *le sigh*

Jean nods. "Very good. Then let's get to it--we'll escort Dame Gold to her home and spend the night there, discussing our options. Bring the log book and the scroll cases--we'll study those further while there. Any clues we glean should be used in the hunt! Including interrogating prisoners, which I intend to do more of."

He moves over to Calelon. "My friend, I have an interesting task for you. You are much more...disciplined in your approach to magic. Do you think you could cook up a spell or talisman to help ensure the truthfulness of a prisoner that I interrogate? I can be persuasive, but there is no reason we shouldn't have some insurance, yes?"

In reply to Jean Esperon (msg # 10):

"Sounds good to me," Reynarde replies absently to Jean as he thumbs through the Captain's logbook. "Been leafing through this ever since we left Cantona. Most of it is indiscernible scrawl and sketches more akin to child's doodle...but there is enough elaboration concerning landmarks..."

Snapping the logbook shut he adds, "Should give me something to work with, could muster a method of approach that will leave us concealed for the most-part by morn." Pausing momentarily he concludes, "Unless some sort of magic is involved regarding our conveyance, passage by boat should be expected if expediency is desired..."

Under his breath, he mutters to himself, "...despite our knack for naval vessels..."

OOC: Spending 1 PP to create Nature Resource - D6 Captain's Logbook.
