I think I'll be ready to start later today. just finishing up reading the source materials.

Uziel would probably seek out Azraile as a fellow "changed being" looking to understand how magical power can influence flesh and bone.

Not comfortable Returning to his faily's sphere of influence Uziel will be looking for the chance to explore magical incidents and enigmas.

He knows enough to know he isn't a researcher or explorer and will gravitate to following and supporting a more practiced individual. though He won't take orders.

Az is not in cannon game but i'm working on another, and when the main story stuff moves over here I got Aflae.... she's deffently a 'changed' being.  Second generation of experimental shard-fordged. (name she coined... as opposed to shard-born for people born with weird Balur realated powers, shard-fordged where infused with weird Balur abilities... first one by necessity, second generation by force in exsperimentation, and third volintarely with some acidents, now fourth where they know what causes rejection and how to do it (slowly) with out causing problems.  Still it's painfull, at the best your looking at tattoo's.... at the worst your looking at shoving Balur into your body and your body regecting such a large amount painfully, then doing it again a few times till you reach the needed level of balur in the body.)

Aflae is a bit OP at the moment, but any combat that involves an OP player and a regular player will have at least two enemies, where the OP player is kept busy. Everyone will have something meaningful to do.

I think it might be best if we start everyone off in a solo, just to get a feel for posting rates etc. But let me know if you want to join with someone else.

I'll start a thread for each player.

if your PC has a backstory I would be happy to join in a story thats focused on another pc as well.

That would be the most likely outcome if he could get in touch with anyone in the company... a reasonable pay and set amount of exspences covered to help him find out what happened to him, maybe a small reasearch team.

But getting a hold of her would garter more because she would be interested in anything sustaining itself outside an oner as that could allow a ship to travel outside the bounds of time and space into the void between realities.

Meaning a ship could literally go anywhere/when.... wouldn't work, but wouldn't stop her from investigating it.

But the company itself wouldn't show much interest as they already are making prototype portal ships, and portal space bubble ships would not be woth the cost and risk for the advantages.

As for Kuruno... her company is paying healers and gear heads to get crystal-forge tattoo's to give them crystalsmithing skills and work for them. Just to see what they can come up with and work in R&D.

Though i can't remember who is in charge of the engeneering/crystalsmith R&D or if a NPC was ever assined ether way he could aim to work his way up and be in charge of his own department.

AATF is another company they could look into for the same stuff.

Thats what there looking for very good mechanics and the like.

Just looking for ones willing to undergo painful surgery or tattoo application to be able to do stuff like make self aware clockwork automatons and light cannons. Lol

Something to consider... but even if the char CAN do it though there is still the fact it will hurt a lot and take time to recover from.

It would be like getting a tattoo with stuff that burns and that gives you an infection. The body regects the balur at first (which is why some people can't get them because the regection/infection will kill them)

Just FYI for everyone

If you are looking for items you can buy, a list of a few of the near infinite available items is available in the Notice thread "Market"

Item prices are based almost completely on their gameplay functionality. If it alters your roll, it costs a set amount.

The "Make Your Own Item" Notice Thread gives a detailed method on how to create your own item.

Ultimately, if there is something you might want to own, consider how expensive it should be and how good of an item you want it to be. Let me know these things, and we'll work together to design the item.

To give you an idea of some items that would be common:

Anything available in Victorian England - and its magically enhanced version.
Fireblade
Sharpest Steel Blade
Shotgun
Energy Shotgun
Elfen Sword
Projectile Deflector
Forcefield
Laser Pistol
Mechanical Swordgun
etc

Advancement

So when you are ready to roll for advancement, you will first want to check out your character sheet. I will keep the CS info up to date as much as I can. But I'll leave your inventory up to you to look after.

So let's say I am the PC: Barbarian Barb and I have the following cliches
Barbarian Berserker [5/5]
Willful Woman [3/3]
Gambler (2/2)

I check my CS and I have

******Barbarian Berserker [5/5]
*Willful Woman [5/3]
***Gambler (1/2)

And I want to roll for advancement. I need to have all evens to advance.
I will spend one * in the cliche I want to attempt to advance first.
quote:
18:10, Today: Narrator, for the NPC Barbarian Barb, rolled 24 using 5d6 with rolls of 5,6,3,4,6.  Barbarian Berserker [5/5].

This is pretty good for an advancement roll start, as long as I have at least 3 more *.
I still have 5 *s so I'll spend one to try to make an odd number even.
quote:
18:14, Today: Narrator, for the NPC Barbarian Barb, rolled 1 using 1d6 with rolls of 1.  Advancement.

That didn't work. I'll try again since I still have 4 *s. This time, since I need to roll at least 2 evens, I'll spend 2 *s at once.
quote:
18:16, Today: Narrator, for the NPC Barbarian Barb, rolled 4 using 2d6 with rolls of 2,2.

That worked! Now my advancement roll has 5 even numbers 2,6,2,4,6 and I advance to Barbarian Berserker [6/6]

I didn't even spend all the *s so I have
**Barbarian Berserker [6/6]
I'm probably not going to succeed another advancement roll now, so I won't try yet. I'll save up my *s in BB for now.

Should I try for an advancement with Willful Woman? I could and it might work (12.5% probability of success), but I'd rather save up *s in WW for now. Even though the first number is 5, I can't use it for an advancement roll. I have to go with the number on the right.

Now that works in my favor for ***Gambler (1/2). I still get to roll 2d6. There is a 25% probability of success on the first try, and I have 3 *s. I could save up, but I want to try anyway. I'll spend 1 * for an advancement roll.

quote:
18:25, Today: Narrator, for the NPC BB, rolled 5 using 2d6 with rolls of 1,4.  ***Gambler (1/2).

Not bad. I'll spend another * to change the "1" I rolled.
quote:
18:27, Today: Narrator, for the NPC BB, rolled 6 using 1d6 with rolls of 6.

And it worked! I end up with

**Barbarian Berserker [6/6]
*Willful Woman [5/3]
*Gambler (2/3)

Unless Kuruno returns, we'll leave the rest of the thread on pause.

Kantoku, there are two ways off of the thread for you. Death makes the most sense and will require the least retroactive gaming.

If Kantoku dies somewhere in the arc before they escape the planet, he will be reborn in Stellaland with no memory of anything that happenned after he lost contact with his meta-self. The arc can be temporally (that is the correct spelling) concluded at any time since they are in an unconnected universe. They could escape in 30 seconds from where we left off and not arrive for thousands of years, or they could take hundreds of years to escape and arrive right now.

Would you like to take that course of action? It will just mean sacrificing Kantoku at some point if the thread picks back up. Then Lantoku could start a new arc or join an existing one.

Just started a short fast, last night I couldn't put 2 thoughts together, but I hope to post a reply to everyone tonight. If anyone is interested in joining their storylines with anyone else, please discuss this between yourselves here or in PMs. If I get two or more people who all want to be in the same story for a bit, I'll arrange the stories to fit those characters being together.

A question about Magem and Balur:
Are they the same thing? I can't quite figure what Balur is from the posts I can see, but the description of it as an entity which has power over physical things made me wonder if Magem (which grows like a living thing and also has power over the physical) is another name for it.

Superb observational skills. Magem is the common word for Balur. Balur is its name, but only the people who know its history and origin know the word Balur.

In general gameplay, I'll ignore any use of the word Balur and just mentally replace it with Magem. Except for those characters who are aware of its actual name. The problem is, it is an entity which doesn't want too many people to know about its existence, or its purpose. It finds that people who believe it to be inanimate are more likely to use it without hesitation, while people who know it is conscious try not to use it because they don't want it to spread faster. Before Balur was introduced into the primary universe (Oner 0), Portals were extremely difficult to create. Once Balur discovered the existence of Portals, it simultaneously discovered that it couldn't create them without the conscious will of another.

I should get to writing responses.

Actually, I can think of a number of ways to make portals through other forms of magic. One game system in my collection actually has creation of pocket universes as a beginning level spell (although the duration is quite short), and the upper levels include a spell for resurrecting a recently destroyed (full size/infinite) universe.

There are, of course, an infinite number of ways. But Balur won't open portals to universes where those spells would work. Balur is a living entity with motivations and controls the most potent form of magic in the known multiverse.

Of course, there has been a monkey wrench thrown into Balur's plans by another living entity who didn't want Balur to succeed. Now Portals are opening to all kinds of Oners with all kinds of magics.

Magics that are based in the physical realm or use some non-sentient form of mana, are easily adapted to Balur influence, and Balur will usually take control of them, causing itself to become the mana of that magic, and learning how to do that magic in exchange for more powerful results.

Magics that are based in the spiritual realm or use soul/spirit or sentient mana, are more easily adapted to Magus influence, and Magus will usually enhance those magics, and protect them from Balur.

Stands are an exstention of peoples souls...... there are PLENTLY of people able to see spirtual stuff.

In the anime there are even people with out stands that can see stands, think animals could too.

There are ways for people with no balur in there system to use it.... it just requires getting it into your system.  Aflae figured out a few safe ways to do this quickly.

Including surgery to give you full on balur powers by implanting crystals into your body.  (though thats costly as it's surgery lol)

Basicaly people that can use shard magic are shard-born (have a high consentration of balur in there body)...  she perfected creating shard-fordged which some psyco came up with subjecting her and 300 some odd other people to cruel experiments (most of whom died) ... he wanted to make himself super powered, and got killed for his evil crazy ways..... but they used his research mainly to create shard-fordged healers, because shard-born healers are such a rare gift.

He's not fundamentally a balloonie, that's imposed on his flesh and blood self via his people's sort of magic. But I think that I'd rather than Bozon works with being an outsider with his style of magics than taking on either of the major, mainstream magical ways quite yet. As a beginning apprentice, he has a lot to learn.

I'm combining magic systems and pantheons from several published sources in cobbling together Bozon/Hergot's world. Gods such as Gruganu, Ksarul, Dra, Hnalla and Thumis are from the best-known of those gaming sources, while other elements of his world are from more obscure games. I also pulled in themes from the novel Dark Lord of Derkholm.

It's my way of keeping track of your mana. The mana of Hergot's world interacts strangely with the Magus of this universe complex (all the universes connected via Portals). Whenever you use magic, I roll according to the rules I established at the creation of your character, using up some of that mana. The mana increases according to my assessment of your description of Hergot's emotional pain.

Precisely. Nor about Magem, so he just knows that those gems are worth a lot of money.

So if he sees some form of earth magic in use, he's more than likely going to be thinking about in terms of what layman's knowledge he has of the brotherhoods Osdez-Gozrol & Felekan-Gozchaal, not the terms and understanding that the elf children would have. Fire magic, he'd be thinking in terms of the brotherhood Faani-Avaia, Pavaric wizards whose magic is rooted in Vimuhla, or priests of Vimuhla or Bssiro. Etc.

More of a magical paradigm mentally than a scientific one translated into magical forces, perhaps?

AH, yes sorry it was a group 1 thing... sorry. It might have spoilers too if the GM wants to finish that mission as it never got finished. I don't remember exactly what happened there I would have to read it over myself but yah something was wrong with magem life there.

All I remember is the creatures where eating other forms of magem like crazy and we where using are emergancy MAD units to form a trap targeted to suck up all the creatures and contain them.

Matter Accumulation Devices suck up a targeted form of mass and store them in 10 or 100 gallon capacity void magem marbles. Together between the lot of them and the emergancy shelter they had like 24 or so marbles that only conained air.... and a total of 50 marbles if they dumped all the food and water in them. So 2400~5000 gallons worth of volume to suck up as much as they could and wait for help.

lol

may or may not have worked being MADs arn't ment to work that way, they arn't weapons and have lots of things build in to prevent them from being used as weapons.

The crystals were supposed to be Void and Air - I just forgot that they weren't black and white. It's basically just a psionic arm using Magem. In my mind's eye that pirate originally had one regular arm and one arm with a hook, but since I typed it wrong, I liked the idea of him having a magic invisible arm and so I just went with it.

I love the Culture books.

Regarding Balur, I'll OOC clear some things up before it gets out of hand.

The self-replicating guy was using Magem as power and mass, but didn't "become" Magem's mind in any way. If I remember right, Magem stopped him, not because he was harming Magem in any way (he wasn't) but because a universe filled with just one person copied over and over is just boring, and Balur was bored so it reset all the matter that he was connected to and have Aflae the opportunity & motivation to kill him before he got started.

Balur is one single entity (as long as a connection to the Oner containing that Balur exists). In the Oners where Balur evolved, there are Balur eating creatures of multiple varieties. The Balur-eating creatures in Gamma were originally sentient, but the mind destroying spell created by the planet's ghost devolved them into mindless Balur eating worm-things. Balur hates anything that threatens it and works hard to eliminate threats.

Intentional exaggeratedly easy spells. Magus is studying you and trying to understand your understandings of magic. Each spell you cast will make it a little bit smarter about your intentions and how to interpret them, as well as how to interpret your mana. It's learning your mental magic code language so that it can effectively assist your magic in the expected way, only enhancing things a little. But for now, it's way misinterpreting you to your advantage.

Re: Advancement

Aflae or Az, go ahead and reroll according to the advancement rules that Bozon used. I like them better, anyway.

I reconsidered how I've been treating double pumping, and I'd like to put it back to the way it was but modified: (3/3) pumped to (2/3) rolls 4d6 but if it is a success in combat, the enemy takes damage equal to the amount pumped +1. [3/3] pumped to [2/3] rolls 5d6, but also increases damage by 1 if successful.

How do you all feel about introducing triple pumping {3/3} pumped to {2/3} rolls 6d6?

I'm keeping double the opponent's roll to double the damage.

I feel there may be unanswered questions, so I'll try to answer them if you resend them.

I'm ready to bring Kantoku back, since I know where everything is going, and he should be alive for this. Also Lugosi survived Gamma. I'll post to Gamma after everyone else is updated.

Re: Advancement

The old way of combining cliches gave unfair advantages when they were combined from a lower level.
So I'd like to do it the following way, but I'm open to suggestions.

To combine two cliches, all *s must be used up & they both have to be 6 or higher, but not both the same.
Swimmer (6/6) + Cyclist Runner (8/8) = ***Triathlete [6/6]
*s are here given 1* for the first level over, 2* for the second & so on

To take one cliche to the next pump, halve the level like this
Triathlete [7/7] can then be upgraded to *Triathlete {3/3}
1 * is given for odd numbers halved.

Azraile, I've been putting the *s before the cliche lately instead of after.

Re: Advancement

I don't remember the reasoning I had for whatever formula before, but it seems to me that going for chance should be rewarded. If I had (100/100) I'd need to reroll about 50, then 25, then 13, 6, 3, 2, 1. So, 1+2+3+6+13+25+50+1=101. But there is a chance that I'd roll worse than that, so 1.25x current level would be close to a guarantee. If you didn't want to bother rolling the die, I'd be happy to auto upgrade with 1.25x current level. So, from (4/4) you'd need 6*s to auto upgrade. That way, there is still incentive to roll. I'm fine with you rolling d2 instead of d6 since we're just looking for even numbers anyway.

The cost of those would be negligible, but they would be completely unhelpful. If he's got $400 he could get a flight harness and emergency kit.... not only are they useful but they come with 5 20-gallon marbles and wouldn't be uncommon for people to have.

If he's planning on trying some slide of hand to hide the marbles he's smuggling while there checking the other 5 those would be right on his harness for all to see.

rechargeable battery (25/25), flash light and lamp, space heater/cooler. Produces water, air, and a nutrient paste storing it in V-marbles and is able to use shard plastic to produce mask/tubes to use them. Has a spot to hold healing pills and comes with 10, and an Anima version of a M.A.D. Included for clearing rock-slides. Can hold 5 marbles for water/air/food/MAD storage and includes 5, 20 gallon ones.

Emergency Shard Skin Space Suit and flight harness (5/5) Provides air/heat and protection from the void of space, has flight capabilities and a self recharging battery.

Standard marble set up is one nutrient paste, one water, one heat, and two air, but it can be set up by the supplier and the self recharging battery will re-fill anything used up over time.

They have proably seen people try and use those kits to sneak some in.... maybe even being sneaky and putting marbles in marbles if you can. Like having a food marble also hold a smuggling one.  (don't see why not a 20 gallon could hold a 10 gallon)

Down side is if you ever work for Aflae you would probable get one for free with a better flight harness/suit =p  lol

drawback is the food has a high magem content as while it can acumulate water out of the air it can't make food out of stuff in the air easly so there magem fenangling done there for the food....but for some people thats a pluss.

But it is meant to be emergency food... it don't exactly taist amazing or anything. Think the blandest of oatmeal... it's not grate, it's not terrible, but it will keep you alive.

Could have probably made something nicer but it would drain the battiers a heck of a lot more and it's hard to make something that taist good, give you all the nutrients you need, and comes out in a consistent paste.

Re: Advancement

In reply to Aflae (msg # 163):

I wasn't thinking in terms of taste. But rather, what kind of long term side effects can it have if you are eating nothing but this for an extended period?

Example: The Nutrification spells of the Pavaric temples provide sustenance, but the foods are slightly toxic in a way that the body cannot easily eliminate. Eating them for a week or more results in enough poison building up that it can harm or even kill, while dining on normal food gives the body a chance to slowly leech away the accumulated spell toxins.

Other methods of magic might lack some vital trace nutrient(s) while having enough of the basic needs to sustain over an emergency, resulting in malnutrition from deficiencies if they cannot get normal food. Or the magical food might be inherently temporary, and the substance self-dispels after a while causing greater hunger than it satisfied.

And is the paste suitable for all carbon life forms, or are there some it is hazardous to due to biochemical differences from the human standard?

Re: Advancement

They have to be customized to your species needs when you buy them.  So spiecies that don't need food or water can get something else in them if they want too. =p

But yah like I said the foods are just high in magem content. For some one from a world that has had no exsposure to magem it might make them sick as there body fights the infection. (people would be warned of this though.)

People preparing to get shardfordged or tattooed to gain new magem abbilities probably are put on a diet of food made like this, though likely better tasting than nutrient paste.

The only possable side affect I could think of is maybe your body might become dependant on magem rich food and have altered to digest it better, and you might have to be weened off it with less magem rich foods till you could eat normal again while magem is removed from your body maybe..... if you where forced to survive on it and nothing else for a months and months maybe?

Maybe you become some weird version of shard-fordged from eating it for years? XD

You eat SO much you gain magem abilities.

They tested it and it was safe, but it's still heavier in magem than any natural food would be because it's created by it rather than in a magem rich environment.

They would probably die....

Same way the body reacts to having blood incompatable organ transplant.... it will attack it to the point of the bodies own determent and even die fighting it off.... even if the organ isn't harmful.

However i think it can addapt and become compatable because don't seam to be anyone incompatable.... just less compatable... some people died figuring this out in anima... they tried the magem tatttoo's to help spread magem healing skills because they where rare and healing skills in general are rare-ish and Anima was trying to cerate a start for a health care system of healers and stuff....

but well it didn't turn out well a few volunteers died even though the process for getting the tattoo's where rather safe....

It turned out some people are not very comparable with magem and there body reacts baddly to it.  These people have to be exposed to magem very slowly for some time before they can get a tattoo, and I don't think they can get shard fordged at all.... they may not have been able to get tattoed even..... but there was tests set up to check for people like this and only like one or two people died..... likely a nice monument to them at the R&D lab hospital grounds. Kinda a "to the people who's sacrifices made this all possable" kinda thing...... along with the monument to the people who unwillingly where killed by the guy who they got the research from..... x.x

Re: Advancement

Balur adapts to the needs of any sentience it encounters. It wants to be used so that it can spread and eventually convert all matter in ever universe into Balur. The bigger it is, the more intelligent it is. Although it is all one entity, larger nodes are more able to compute information and run its sentience programming. It's like a naturally evolved AI - just doing what makes the most sense for it's longterm goal of being everything.

But it currently considers other forms of magic to be rivals to be defeated. High-technology and Magus were both identified as enemies.

Therefore when it is introduced in large quantities into a person who is heavily saturated in Magus, there is a violent reaction.

If there was a creature that simply couldn't use Balur and live, Balur would weigh the rate of self proliferation in two scenarios: delete all of that species from history or adapt and change to make it work.

Long term effects of eating Balur based or rich foods, would be to have all of your Balur based abilities increased, and your Magus based abilities decreased.

The black winged angle was poping up around the BBG a lot, and turned out had his soul and no one else but aflae could see him... but he was there.

Good blood is blood drawn from a willing Sangwen donor.
Bad blood is blood taken from an unwilling Sangwen victim.
The blood of a Sangwen obeys the will of its owner.
When blood is willingly given, once it leaves its owner, it seeks to improve whatever it comes in contact with. It turns poison into medicine, water into wine, makes rotten food edible, dry leather strong again, corroded metals restored, dirty clothes clean, etc.
While Bad blood seeks to make things bad in some way. It turns water into poisonous acid, medicine into addictive toxins, good food poisonous, good leather disintegrates, metals corrode, clothes dry-rot, etc.
Once the blood changes from contacting another substance, it is changed and stabilized.
Good blood mixed with good blood creates Bonhemotin which heals and has helpful effects on Magus skills.
Bad blood mixed with bad blood creates Malhemotin which kills Sangwen, and corrupts others.
Bonhemotin mixed with Malhemotin creates a mixture of the two substances. A Sangwen exposed to this would experience a long, slow, painful death. The Bonhemotin would keep him alive longer while the Malhemotin would eventually kill him.
Good blood mixed with Bonhemotin creates more Bonhemotin.
Bad blood mixed with Malhemotin creates more Malhemotin.
Bad blood mixed with Bonhemotin creates a nutritious sludge and releases unusable Magus into the ether.
Good blood mixed with Malhemotin creates a poisonous sludge and releases unusable Magus into the ether.

Re: Advancement

Typically, Malehemotin addiction is cured by any enlightenment event, so it probably would work. As for the poisoned Sangwen, any unrepented wrongs would fuel the Malhemotin enough to kill the Sangwen, so a Malhemotin poisoned Sangwen would have to renounce the consumption of blood as well as their wrong deeds (though not necessarily specifically list them all). So it would be possible to save a Malhemotin poisoned Sangwen, but they'd have to be willing to change quite alot. The good religion of this Oner has cured a number of poisoned Sangwen in this way. Sangwen can consume blood or food, but not easily both. If they consume food regularly, the artery that goes from their stomach to their heart closes itself off. If they consume blood regularly, the tube from their stomach to their intestines closes itself off.

Before the game ended Kantoku had just send Aflae a feather from him at the site of the scuttle bug explotion... it had dirt on it from Grolms' private island on the nexus... it had gone dark, and drifted away from the city not that long ago.

She would have checked to see if it was an angel feather.. and if there was any precivable difference between it and the other angel sample she had been allowed to inspect... if not an angel... try an analyze it's DNA.

Seeing what Azraile just tried reminds me of the 3rd edition of Nobilis, where the difference between the Angels (of Heaven) and the Fallen Angels (of Hell) was that the Fallen ones dared to love everything, not just what was beautiful. And since things such as sickness, cancer, corruption, etc. often had nobody else to love them, they got more attention and care from Hell than the things which Heaven adored.

There is an IC reason for it - all sentient species who originated in Oner 0 are about 130,000 years old. All Djin are cousins or siblings and were born within 1000 years of eachother. Anyone from Oner 0 claiming to be as ancient as possible, can't exceed 130,000 years (unless they've time-travelled).

an ancient Humagus Guild handbook:
Djin: These 30-37 Djin (30 known, 6 or 7 rumored) are the sons and daughters of an angel and Djini who were the daughters of Dji the daughter of Anu. They are primarily spiritual and spectral, and can therefore be nearly any size and shape. They are often misnamed as Genies by common folk. The Djin are powerful entities, and most are unhappy with their lot in life. When Grandel the Wizest was 732, he enslaved all Djin to humanity until the end of humanity. Since then, whoever finds a Djin must be granted a certain number of wishes which are within that particular Djin’s ability to grant. Upon completion, the Djin is freed from its master to hide from humanity for a time. For this reason, Djin are rarely seen and assumed to be myth.

Gearfs and Narfs are dwarfs with a time-period of divergent evolution on the planet Djunk. Like Chinese vs Native American. Not that different, but a little different.

Dragons are a totally different species which have the ability to self-manipulate their DNA. Their DNA works it's way into the human species through various corridors by this point in history, but they started from a completely different heritage.

Re: OOC

If you decide to go that way, give me an option of at least 2 diseases and I'll roll the dice to see which one 'accidentally' becomes real - unless Horror decides for himself which one to make happen.

One of the concepts I utilize in this game is that of the hive-person - a person whose body is made up of many different smaller bodies. So every disease has a spirit-person associated with it, and as that person changes over time (even becoming 3 people if 2 significantly different strains develop [the original disease who incorporates all descendants, and the 2 strain-persons which make up its hive-person]) the spirit-person changes too. Therefore, Horror could become a disease for a time, and if he re-condensed into a single body either he'd have control over the evolution of that disease and how it affected people, or they'd all be suddenly cured. The result would depend on a roll of the dice and his intentions. If he wanted it to happen, it would be more likely, and if he didn't care or decide, it would be 50-50.

Re: OOC

Actually demons in this world aren't all fallen angels. Fallen angels are often called demons, but true demons are just unclean spirits. There are different kinds of unclean spirits, and the most common is probably dead people. Ghosts who do more harm than good are demons. Ghosts that consume others or try to kill the living become Shadowmen. People who are addicted to something, become the hive-body of the things they were addicted to in life. There are certain demons (who were never humans) who would manifest in exactly the way you described, needing someone to feel them in order to be present. One of the spirits that doesn't need others to feel it is actually an extinct virus that wiped out the first form of sentient life - a super-complex multi-species ecosystemic organism which had spread throughout the ocean and surface of the planet, and gained sentience as a unit. That life-form became the spirit of Pskaena. The virus that killed it had gained sentience as a by-product of the first sentient being and saw that it could replicate more quickly if it attacked its host instead of working with its host to transmit DNA from one organism to another. It began as one of the vehicles of communication, and it became the spirit of sickness and disease. By killing its host, it died. It's host was resurrected through its survivors and became an even more complex and robust organism, now partially spiritual in nature. One of its children created an auto-looping sequence of emotions in its host's mind which evolved into the entities that need to be felt in order to be present.

Re: OOC

Ah, I see a bit better now.

The demons in Exalted were/are the component souls of the Yozis (imprisoned titans) and the offspring of the souls. Thus, you get a soul hierarchy within each Yozi, each soul having their own body, name, personality and powers while also being part of the greater soul above them. The lowest level ("First Circle Demons") are spiritually independent beings capable of reproducing their own kind (often in extremely bizarre ways).

The emotion demon I'd mentioned is a Second Circle Demon, the lowest level in the actual hierarchies, and the level that spawns new First Circle races. I'd have to look up just who is directly above her (Third Circle) and which Yozi they are part of.

The gods in the setting were originally creations of the titans, and used mankind to overthrow their creators, casting the surviving/surrendering titans down to become the Yozis or demon princes. The titans who actually died in that war... became something far worse as well as spawning the art of necromancy.

And I think that I just figured out two different ways past Dragon's immunity to Magus, permitting wizards to attack them with it.

1) Enchant their surroundings to produce a non-magical effect. Explode the air beneath their wings, for example, or transmute it into lead to weigh them down.

2) The immunity is based on their ability to observe, therefore, come in a fashion that needs weird methods to detect. Such as a spell attached to a Then-When Circle, so that the incoming effect is orbiting "now" at a radius of half a second, making it extremely hard to spot before it slathers greasepaint all over the dragon's face and puts a teeny-weenie, yellow, polka dot bikini on them.

It's very hard to see what kind of choices and paths will lead that way, Scord. I'm seeing far, far more of Thagirion's imbalance than I see hints of Tipheret's glory in the socio-political landscape. I may personally strongly favor tikkun olam and the path towards healing and reconciliation of darkness with light, but I gather that it is far more common among Eve's descendants (who outnumber us greatly) to see it in terms of one crushing the other completely.

Re: OOC

In the immediate, I see difficult times ahead. In the end, darkness is not the absence of light, but the absence of something to reflect that light. Just as in the vacuum of space where rays of light are passing through nearly every point (if not actually every point), there is light in the darkness, but all light is from one Source, and all dark is simply the absence of the Source. As long as a thing retains some aspect of the Source, it retains existence. The things that identify themselves with darkness, have light in them, but that light is not retained.

quote:
Eve's descendants

Do you mean the Semitic peoples? I've recently learned that Adam means humanity and Eve means life.

Light crushes darkness by allowing darkness to have its way and the consequences of its actions, while not holding it against anyone who accepts that they can't produce their own light & regrets their darkness.

Would you mind telling me more about Thagirion's imbalance, Tipheret's glory and tikkun olam?

In reply to Narrator (msg # 258):

I'm descended from Adam through Lilith rather than through Eve.

Tipheret is the portion of the Tree of Life most closely corresponding to Christ's home, the splendor of God, and its' position on the Tree places it on the direct line between Malkuth (Earth) and Keter (where God's throne could be said to be). Or, in the structure of Adam Kadmon, Tipheret is his heart while Keter is the crown of divine light (halo?) surrounding his head.

Thagirion is Tipheret's counterpart in the Tree of Death, a center of Christ's power but not a healthy one. It is... associated with those who create ugliness in the name of God, then groan about the hideousness of their own making. Each vessel of the Tree of Death is a flawed, distorted, warped version of the matching perfection on the Tree of Life. The same principle, but woefully out of balance with each other.

Tikkun olam is the process of repairing the damage of the first Fall. Seeking to restore the intended order to God's creation, healing the broken vessels and letting them merge with and be absorbed into their counterparts. This Fall is the one that happened in the earliest stages of Genesis, at the "Let there be Light" level or thereabouts, not the later Fall caused by the Serpent.

A quick side-not side-note for Aflae, Stella-land could house a virtual Balur, but if they tried to have a real one there that the mages couldn't directly attack, they'd simply destroy Stella-land, which they could do since it was made with Balur. It's a good idea, but too dangerous. Also, do you really think mages are their only weapon?

The thing about Stellaland, is that it's a personal Oner, and personal Oners are only as real as their anchor - that is, their Portal or their creator if the creator is in the Oner. If the Portal is destroyed and the owner of the Oner is away, the Oner goes with it. That was always a BTS flaw in the personal Oner thing that I never had a reason to reveal before now.

EDIT: I'd allow it if you could come up with a way to do it so that King Joe couldn't do anything about it. There are ways, but I'll leave that to you. Whether you figure a way out or not won't prevent the better endings.

Djin's anchor is kept in existence by the Djin itself. For practical purposes it's impossible to destroy the anchor or the Djin. But it is possible to steal an anchor.

If I remember correctly Stella was created in the oner as a copy of Estella, and is therefore part of it. If it is destroyed, she is destroyed.

Narrator, I'm confused.

First we had
quote:
Theb looks at them meaningfully, but Beth shrugs and says, "She wasn't in the guild so we're safe."

Then,
quote:
Beth pulls a medallion off of the corpse, "This is how you know who is in the Guild."

Now, Theb's description seems to be stating very clearly that the deceased was a member of the Pirate Guild because she carried such a medallion. Which seems to be the opposite of what Beth said when the dress-a-like was first brought in.

Now here's the truth: I forgot I had said she wasn't in the guild, and I wanted a convenient way to explain how to tell if someone was in the guild or not. I'd like to keep the texts cannon as they are, and let it reveal that Beth was either lying or wrong.

Now I know for certain that you do not understand either of my characters, Scord.

While I could understand Bozon being drawn into the existing threads of story and Aflae's prophesied involvement with the end of the Balur war, the way that you just railroaded him into a death that he explicitly cannot survive through the ordeal enchantment is rather dismaying. Particularly in light of his having freely offered up his life to protect the others earlier in the scene and been flatly denied.

Likewise, Horror seems to be being parsed as a midnight messiah figure, rather than as a seeker of enlightenment himself.

Neither were intended to be powerful or influential individuals, as described in their RTJs, either, yet that seems to be the direction they are being swept in despite their personal stories. Are you familiar with the term "Monty Haul" in gaming?

Re: OOC

Bozon is in the arc of his story where he is being denied what he wants and forced to make difficult decisions which will change him. Every post, I've been giving him tests and choices. The natural consequences of those choices are playing out. Holy flame seeks mercy and love, but will allow justice when mercy and love are rejected. If Bozon had tried to discippate the spell instead of turn it around, (I should've told you that was possible, neglecting that fact was my mistake), Joe would've laughed, thus winning freedom for Bozon, Tine and Jen. Joe has laughed. Besides, though he has no reason to know, my understanding is that he can survive being popped if the pieces are gathered up and somehow reformed. Additionally, Aflae cast a spell on him to save him should he be popped by pulling him into the sideways. No matter what, Bozon survives.

Horror is a human given a Raksha body. In this Onerverse, Raksha are higher beings over humans, but humans have power over Raksha. By having freedom of will, he is by nature the 2nd most powerful kind of creature possible, and he bridges two realms. He is in the part of his story arc where everything is going his way. He is a perfect storm of innocence and power which is reflecting and magnifying the deepest truths of those around him. By accepting the evil in his followers, he addicts them to his approval. They make assumptions about what will bring his approval, and seek to act accordingly. If he seeks enlightenment, then hopefully at some point he will see that he has become the thing he hated (which is the first step on the road to enlightenment), and reject his existing ways. For now, he has gathered about as much power as he needs to be able to explore what it brings with it, so that he can ultimately reject it if it isn't satisfying. I had no intention of allowing him to get this powerful, but he kept doing things that make it easy. Music is powerful magic.

As for Monty Haul, I just looked it up. It's not the purpose of what's going on. Magus has almost learned Bozon's magic, and his overpowering is ending soon. Horror's followers are all free-will following. The moment it becomes obvious he will no longer feed their needs, they will abandon him.

That's good to know about Bozon's death vs popping. I'll keep it within those parameters. Heat causes gas to expand, and if the heat is magical, it might heat up gas before heating up rubber.
