09. Shadowjak

Shadowjak had just been summoned to Queen Mab's presence. After their greetings, she said, "My Thorn, there is an item of some value in the Summer court. Unfortunately they will not trade for it. It is a black rose named Deathbreath. Be careful not to touch it."

His breath caught for just a second when he walked in. His Queen always took his breath. Something about her drew him, as a moth to the flame. With nary a twitch after that, he preformed his greeting and awaited Her request. When she mentioned the Black Rose, Deathbreath, he cocked his head to the left and then simply nodded at Her warning. Then, with a raised eyebrow, " Trade or not, if it is something My Queen desires, then have it She shall. If I may have your leave My Queen, I shall see to your desire." The reply was bold and layered with meanings. Yet in the end, it was what he would do...see to HER desire, as he always had.

Queen Mab replied, "By any means, my knight." Shadowjak thought he caught a gleem of desire that was more for him than a trinket or token. But Mab had reasons no one could guess at, and she may have been flirting, manipulating or anything else.

Shadowjak knew how to get to the Summer court, and had an idea of who to talk to first.

OOC: I'd like to see your take on this, and I haven't solidified much about Summer court yet. But if you go to their King or Prince, I'll need to interject.

As he slipped form his Queen's presence, Anton's mind whirled...Don't Touch, Right something that kills with just a touch...maybe*sigh*...So, Black Rose...That should stand out, should be known...should be...As he walked through the pristine ice halls, Anton kept turning over who, and where he needed to start. As he rounded a corner, he flowed down into a shadow and slid along shadows until he left the Winter Court proper.

It wasn't long before he reached the one place he knew he could find the information needed. With a flowing step, he emerged from the shadow of a passing carriage and walk through the front door of the Daring Dandelion, a local pub owned and operated by an Exile Summer Court Retainer, Vetri Silverleaf. The poor Summer Fae had the unfortunate luck of serving a cold, Winter-Brewed Ale to the Summer Court. Though tasty, it did not bode well that it was made from ingredients only found at the Winter Court. Taking the serving of this as a sign of discontent, he had been banished to Winter for his suggestion that it's contents were better than Summers.

An entrepreneur at heart, Vetri didn't languish. Instead he capitalized on his misfortunes and started the Daring Dandelion. While Summer might take offense at Winter's bounty, Winter held no such illusions. They wanted EVERYONE's bounty, it mattered not whence they came...At least that is how Vetri puts it.

Anton needed more information before heading to Summer. He needed to know who wanted what and what they had to exchange. In short, Vetri was Anton's Summer Fence. Out of everyone, he would have some idea of what was needed next.

Vetri was behind the bar, cleaning glasses and probably contemplating the contents of his next concoction of consumable toxin. Seeing Shadowjak, however, brought him out of his imaginings and into the present moment.

"What'll it be, friend?"

After hearing his reply and the request for information on where to find the Black Rose, Vitri's face grew stiff for a moment. "Well! That's no small cake. The Black Rose is a powerful item. I'm not really sure what it does, but I know it's powerful and I know it's highly valued.

"Word is, the Summer knight is on assignment in Nexus or elsewhere, so that's fortunate for you. The Black Rose is in a pocket Oner with a single permanent Portal access point in the Sunsphere. As you know, the Sunsphere is their floating fortress that rolls around on the Blue Dome of Summer Days."

This Oner was generated from the imagination of peoples who lived before the nature of the universe was known. The world really is flat and it really does have a Blue Dome of Summer Days which is a gigantic translucent sapphire dome with gates made of pearls along the ground where it touches the ground at the border of Summer's Daytime territory. Winter has an equally sized Black Dome of Winter Nights which is made of Onyx with vibrant Stargems embedded in it and has Ivory gates. We'll leave Summer Nights and Winter Days to another time. The Sunsphere has a radius of 1500', it is constantly moving in a seemingly random (but not actually random) pattern around the Dome. It rolls around using an omnidirectional wheel system that leaves the insides level to the ground below at all times.

"You know that the Sunsphere is heavily guarded at its entry points. And there are various security features within. This is a task that will be beyond you working alone. You'll need a plan to get in, and a plan to get out. You'll also need to put a team together."

OOC: Fortunately, the Sunsphere is currently only a concept, and I'm leaving it mostly open to debate and imagination so that you can use your imagination to come up with what kind of NPCs you'll need for the job, and how many. Realistically, whatever skills you look for, will be needed, and whatever skills you don't look for won't be ultimately necessary to get the job done. It will be challenging, and at least one NPC will probably die, but there are too many other things for Shadowjak to do for him to die in this job.

One more thing, the area outside of the domes is no-man's land. Wild things both good and evil roam that area. It is unconquerable, and the domes exist to keep the wild things out.
