There, alone in the vehicle, Azailah felt a lump in her throat. Why was no one appreciated what she did? Those felons were stopped largely because I her help. No one was helping and yet she was being yelled at!?

Azailah had an urge to go home. Maybe her dad was right. She dropped her face into her hands, starting to cry, but immediately pulled her head back as her face stung from where she was hit. She got out of the vehicle and went to the side away from the building.

(If quiet she wants to call her dad)

Azailah stared at the phone. Her father had never not picked up before.  She shot him a text instead. "Hey Dad. Please call me."

The ride back to the base was quiet and devoid of conversation. At some point Harley and Gravel had came down from their sniper perches and rejoined their comrades.

When they got back just before unloading the sergeant said, Everybody download your footage and attach it to your reports. I want them in a hour. With that he silently walked off the back of the transport and back to his office. The others slowly unloaded after him.

Mickey looked over at Azailah, There's  more ammunition in the armory if you need to resupply. I'm going to med bay to check out my ribs, I think some are broken. He grimaced and climbed to his feet.

Azailah watched Mickey and the Sergants words came to her. Something worse could have happened to him. But one must be strong enough to handle situations themselves.

She shook away her stubbornness and awkwardly put a hand on Mickeys shoulder. Need some help? I need to go to. See about my injury to the face.

Mickey shook his head, I got it. I'll walk with you though, I need to stop by the armory and get a new uniform. Mines a little messy. Looking down Azailah could see that the front of Mickey's uniform was covered with the blood of the men he'd tried to save. He lead her through the corridors to a large white door that said "Medical" above it.

When they entered nurses in all white uniforms came up and took them to separate areas. Once Azailah was alone her nurse asked her what was wrong.

The nurse looked at her for a second and scratched her head, "Ok...um here." She turned around and grabbed a bottle of aspirin out of the cabinet, "Take two every four hours. The bruising should go away in a couple of days. Anything else?"

Azailah shook her head. She grabbed the bottles and walked back out. She desperately searched for a quiet spot and called her father again.

"Well," She started, "first i get a crazy text from your boss, so of course i go where it says. Did you know there is a stupid dinky basement in headquarters. That place needs to be torn down. Then they take me over to this...fortress! And the people here are mean to me daddy, and no one respects you! Or me!" She ran on with her sentences, linking them all together. She ended her sentence in a whine.

There was a pause on the other end of the line for a long moment, Did they yell at you for stopping the bad people or did they yell at you for how you did it?

A few seconds later a message came in through her comlink indicating where all of her earthly belongings were stored.

Through her company comlink another message came through at the same time summoning her to the lieutenant's office.

Empty. She felt empty. How could this be happening? Her father cut her off, and then she's stuck in a place where everyone hates her.

Several minutes passed before she got herself up and made her way to the bathroom. She cleaned up her face and examined the bruise. She did not react, she did not feel the tenderness. She swallowed and made her way to the lieutenants office.

The lieutenant's office was a sparse affair. A simple desk sat in the center of the office with one chair occupied by the lieutenant on one side and on the other side two empty ones. On the wall a single painting of an eagle in flight was framed, the frame was decorated with unusual writing. Without looking up the lieutenant motioned to one of the empty chairs.

When Azailah had sat he stared into her eyes and began to talk, "In light of recent events it has been decided that you should be punished. The charges are deserting your team and disobeying a direct order. After talking with your sergeant, and under his advice, this will not be an official write up. However punishment is still due, in that regard you will be assigned to janitorial duties for the remaining time of this tour. You're to report to the head of janitorial services in proper attire in fifteen minutes. Your new uniform is on your bed. Dismissed."

With that he turned back to the crossword he had been working on.

Before the phone call she would have screamed at the man. Told him where he could put his janitorial duties and then walked out. But now? She had no where to go, and needed this so called job.

Visions danced before her of the glorified movies and videos she had seen of this team at work. The SWAT of corporations. Before her was not the man she thought would be in charge, the mission they had been on was not what she had envisioned as her job. She was no medic. And now she was no janitor, but what choice did she have?

She had no fight left. She quietly pushed back her chair and without a word left. Before going to her room she downloaded her helmet feed for the nights events.
