Well that seems suspicious.

Despite his misgivings he stepped into the shed.

He entered what looked to be a storage shed. For a moment there was still no lights. They finally buzzed on and Phillip could see shelves filled with bottles I liquor an boxes labeled with alcoholic titles. There seemed to be no light switch and on the back wall a panel opened revealing the face of man, presumably Richie. His age was hard to determine because he appeared to be disabled.

He let a childish grin spread across his face as he saw Mike. Mike! Uncle Mike!

Mike smiled back, Ey bud. Let's us by alright?

Richie nodded vigorously and opened the door wider. Mike led the way into another room. This one was much larger an fashioned like a gentleman a lounge with lether couches and books upon the wall. In fact one whole wall was completely covered. Against the opposite wall were desks. Some had computers and others had books. Richie stared at Phillip.

Richie shoved his way past Phillip, and possessively grabbed a book. He clutched it close to him and then ran to a corner and opened it, flipping though the pages.

Mike walked over to Phillip, a bottle in hand and holding out another for Phillip. "Phillip from somewhere else ey? I do the same as you i reckon. Cross to the spirit world at day, help run a bar at night."

"Our group heard about some happenings in that cave. About one of dem gods becoming active. I was sent to investigate." at the word "gods" Mike held up his fingers to denote quotations. "My time run up though. Had to come back or i never would." He laughed and held his bottle towards Phillip, like he had made some grand joke. "You know how it is."

Mike took a stumbled step back. The expression on his face showed that he was also confused. He took a minute to think and then took a seat in one of the leather chairs in the room. He scratched his head, then drank some beer. "I just don't get you Phillip. Who trained you? I mean you don't just be new and go into the realm looking like you do. How long did it take you to make that armor you wear? And why wear makeup to look younger?"

He suddenly stood up in anger. The more he talked things out the more nothing made sense. "What the hell are you up to Phillip? If that is even your name?" He pushed his black trench coat aside and exposed the hilt of a gun which his hand hovered over.

At that moment a type of bell rang. It was a motion detector and meant someone else had entered the shed. Oy, Richie. It's Uncle Oliver. came a clear but deep, rough voice. Richie, who had still had the book in his clutches scurried over to the hidden door and opened it. He let out an excited sound as he saw who it was.

An older man, right at fifty, walked in. He had hair that was a silvery white and hung to a length right at his chin and tucked behind his ears. His face looked hardened, and had the wrinkles of a hard life all over. He was just over six foot tall and broad shouldered. His hands were large and calloused from those of a working man. He looked at what was going on and shook his head.

"Mike, i came to talk about that man you mentioned earlier. And i suppose this his him? Put that gun away bloke, i won't have any of that here you drunkard." He turned and looked at Phillip. He held out a hand, "I'm Oliver. I own this here bar and run the headquarters for the eastern chapter of the Realm Crossers."

"Bloody ell! He is a priest." Mike exclaimed and fell backwards to sit in the chair.

Oliver raised an eyebrow at Phillip. "Haven't heard of a priest involved with these things before. Seeing as how we deal with more than one..." Oliver stopped the sentence as if to avoid offending Phillip. Mike however picked it up. "Oh hell Oliver! We ain't dealt with a true god yet! All them spirits that claim to be so are just glorified demons! Creatures with too much power that wrap poor weak minds into believing they are some grand power. Bullshit it is." Miked scowled and took another swing of beer.

Oliver rolled his eyes, and returned his attention to Phillip. "Mike had a rough day. Ignore the bloke. Tell me, you are new? What are your questions?" He walked over to a cabinet and grabbed a glass, filling it with what appeared to be scotch.

What exactly do the realm crossers do? What is their goal? That seemed the most important thing to Phillip before deciding to go onwards with these people.

There was a huff from Mike but Oliver spoke calmly. "I suppose you could say we are adventurers and scholars. At this section, we have learned how to cross into that elusive spirit realm with techniques handed down from our aborigine ancestors. A recipe of mediation, herbs, and chants." He walked the room as he talked, looking at no one in particular. This seemed to be a favored subject of his.

"Some humans have always had some knowing that there was something out there. A sixth sense they say. We go into the spirit realm and stop particularly bad demons that may be causing trouble, but the main goal is to learn. So much of that realm is undocumented and yet it seems to be so closely linked to this, more physical realm."

He stopped and leaned against a table, now looking at Phillip. "I'm sure you've heard in the news. Droughts in Africa, flooding in Texas, fires in Canada, earthquakes, tornadoes, it is all connected. Something is agitated over there and we are trying to find out what...."

Again he paused and looked at Phillip, as if trying to figure out if he was working on any angle or ill ways. He brought his glass to his lips and sipped. "As to what we were doing today? Well the gods have been, lets say missing in action as of late. We had a report that there was one lurking in that cave. I sent Mike to investigate but he had to return or loose his own spirit." Another sip, "So that's what we were doing. How about you...Father Phillip?"

Phillip pondered silently for a moment. On the one hand he could get up and leave. Going forth would leave him companionless and alone on the journey without anyone to turn to for help. If he took these people at their word however he would have someone to stand beside him and someone to learn from in a lot of ways. This library for start.

It was another long moment before he spoke, I am a  spirit walker, the last of my kind. I can freely, with more training anyway, move between this realm and the spirit realm. For some reason I appear in the spirit realm younger and much more fit with heavenly armor. I don't know why but I just started...today? Yesterday? That's all I feel comfortable talking about until I get to know you more.

Phillip returned to silence, hoping he'd made the right decision.

Gee flickered into view briefly, a curious expression on his face. He spoke but as he did so, Oliver spoke as well.

"I do not know if that was wise Walker..."
"A walker eh?" Oliver scratched his chin in thought. At this time Richie rushed over to Mike and made a grunt as he pointed to an open page. Oliver walked over to see.
"Yeah yeah, i'm lookin Richie."
"Curious, isn't that the armor you described Mike?"
"Bloody ell. Looks just like him."
Oliver grabbed the book and studied it. He turned to Richie first, "Every book on Spirit Walker Richie. On my desk." then to Phillip. He showed the page they had been looking at.

Upon the page, in black and white was a man in armor. The physical man looked different. Black hair and a beard, but he also had a shield and mace. The mace he held was larger than average with jagged points like razors coming out of the metal ball. The shield however was an exact match to Phillips. It was a Walker.

The boy was gathering various books without opening them and placing them on Olivers desk.

Phillip finally began to give atttention to Richie. There was more going on there than met the eye. Phillip looked over at the quickly growing stack of books and the one that the boy had grabbed as soon as he walked in.

Oliver, how did Richie know I was a walker before I said anything? He didn't turn his head still focusing on Richie.

"Hmm?" Oliver turned his attention from the book he was holding to now look at Richie. He shrugged and shook his head. "I'm not sure. I didn't realize."

Mike spoke up, his voice seeming agitated. "Richie probably knew the moment you stepped in Father. He sees things we don't. He's our...reminder." The agitation moved now to sadness. "Since you say you're new i guess you wouldn't understand. We Realm Crossers spend years upon years training on how to align our spirits and souls apart from our physical forms. To safely cross over to that spirit realm with our bodies intact here and our spirits just as strong there." He took a swig of his beer and stood to look at Phillip in the eye.

"I'm sure you've had some crazies come to you in the church before Father. People who hear voices and wonder if God is talking to them?" He raised an eyebrow at Phillip. "You ever think where those voices come from? Why people feel they are being watched or chased? Everyone out to get them?" Another sip.

"I'm sure some are crazy for sure, but others. Others have a foot in that spirit realm and have no idea. Humans use terms like schizophrenia, paranoia, downs, and... " he turned to Richie, ...aspergers." He sat back down. "But no. That there is what happens when we spend too long where we do not belong. The soul and body are not meant to be apart. If we stay too long our souls can't reconnect and our bodies..." he pointed to Richie, indicating what had happened.

During all this Richie was busy grabbing the books he had gathered and opening them specifically to the pages about Walkers like he had been asked to do. Oliver reached over and patted him on the shoulder, giving a warm smile. Richie responded with a large grin of his own and then continued his work diligently.

Phillip had never thought about that before. Sure some people had came but he always assumed they were inflicted with a mental illness. It was hard to believe what the man had said but it made sense with all that he'd been through today....or at least it wasn't as crazy as some of the things he'd experienced.

He nodded while still watching Richie then headed over to the desk to look at some of the books that had been gathered and to see what they said.

The Walkers of Light were described as Gee had said. A extreme class of beings that acted as judges between the mortals and demons spirits. All the reports of Walkers seemed to be second or third hand. "I heard from a woman about them." "My mother told me she heard..." There were no reports from any actual Walkers.

Interestingly there were some accounts of Walkers who could heal the wounded, or shine a beacon of light from their shield.

Where do you think we should go next? he asked nobody in particular.

Bloody Hell mate! We ain't no peter pans zipping about as we please!

After he had finished laughing Oliver spoke. If you are interested in coming Phillip than we'll gladly take ya. We were thinking of driving down tomorrow. You pitch in for gas and bring your own tent and bag ....unless you don't have any money?   Oliver paused and raised a brow at Phillip. It seemed he didn't want to pry but wasn't sure if being a preist was a paying gig or not.
