The Rescue of Arol
Introduce NPC - Separate - Misfortune

We were following rumors of a treasure cairn and followed some kobolds underground. After they passed a bend, we were ambushed by a giant spider.  Baru was killed right off and Arol was grabbed and immobilized.  Baru will likely sate the beast for a couple days but Arol is next.  Please hurry!

Two threads
Main of Rescue Arol
Secondary of recover Baru's corpse.
Secondary of investigate cairn.

In reply to Dawri (msg # 2):

Sanr runs off to gear up and collect the Ring of Slow Poison supplied by the guild to rescue Arol with.  "Come now Dawri, they said that if he's been injected with spider venom he only has maybe five hours left, and the location described is three hours from here for your stubby legs.  Let's get a move on."

In reply to Sanr (msg # 3):

Dawri and Sanr arrive but they've gone off track, and have approached from the wrong side!  A large chasm sits between them and where the entrance should be.  It would take too long to back track and find away around the chasm now.

"Ummmm, do you happen to have any rope?  Or a spell that might help?"

Dawri looks around for any possible way to traverse the chasm.

In reply to Dawri (msg # 5):

"I'm no wizard!  You're gonna need to jump it. Looks to be 10 feet or so." He starts fetching his rope from his backpack and throws a loop at Dawri.

Peering quizzically at Sanr, Dawri exclaims, "It only looks like 10' to you?!  It looks like 15' to me.  Mayhap it's because you're ridiculously tall?"  He grabs the loop of rope and ties it around his waist.

"In any case, I shall jump across.  Brace yourself in case I fall, then we can get you across.  Hopefully we can find a better way out, I don't relish the thought of bringing Arol back across this."

Athletics test to jump across.  Fumble results in falling in the chasm.

The Rescue of Arol
[OOC]
14:22, Today: Dawri rolled 76 using 1d100.  Athletics (61).

Does that mean I need to spend a luck point to reroll?  Or no?  5' x 2 = 10', so if it just doesn't include the athletics bonus I'm okay?

The Rescue of Arol
Dawri takes a running leap and jumps into the air...

...

and falls short of the distance, slamming into the far edge of the chasm.  Fortunately for Dawri, he clenches up as he sees the impending impact, and manages to grab a handhold on the ledge rather than slip to his doom.

He scrambles up on the other side, dusts himself off, and turns back to Sanr.

In reply to GM Krindi (msg # 11):

"Ok, guess it's my turn now.  Hold on tight to the other side of the rope there and don't let me fall!"

16:16, Today: Sanr rolled 8 using 1d100.  Easy Athletics.

With a short run up, Sanr leaps nimbly across the chasm.  "Guess it helps to have longer legs, huh Dawri?  Ok, let's find a way in there and see if we can save Arol before it's too late!"

In reply to Sanr (msg # 12):

Is there an opening on this side?
22:44, Today: GM Tathas, for the NPC Fate, rolled 4 using 1d100.  Unlikely.
Exceptional yes.
