Ren now a little sullen himself quaffed his ale "I could always use good men Deverick. Are they your and your companions equal... both in skill and character then? I don't mind spending coin if the goods are worth it. Yet, being wasteful bothers me and I'm a businessman first and foremost."

  Deverick hesitated to answer Ren's questions, but answer he must,for they worked for the man.

"In truth, I don't know em at all. They  where referred ta me from a mutual friend o' mine. I spoke with em briefly at the Green Dragon. They av thier own weapons, but they lack mor ethen leather fer protection,Sir. Not a shield nor helmet counted among em. I just thought ye might be interested,so I mentioned it."

Ren looked over at Deverick with a cocked brow "No armor then? Well how many of these sellswords are they? It would seem a suit of chain would cost seventy five orbs. Depending on their number it may not be too costly. I could arrange them jobs with the merchant guard but then they would be at the guild's beck and call. What I was thinking, is keeping you three on retainer as my personal guards and emissaries if you three would consider this. If so, I may sponsor these new swords and place them under your command. Again, this would be for you all to consider."

 Dev rubbed his chin in thought. " Aye, it be something ta consider,but fer th near future,Sir. I think we should ta bed, and get an early start at cock crow."

Ren nodded "Fair enough Deverick! Besides you three have robbed me quite enough for tonight. Sleep well and be up early is well and good. I will have you deliver the missives to the Mayor and Derider in the morning and be back to escort me to The Wheel Of Gold by the afternoon. I trust you three. That and I am indebted to you. Fare thee well. Until the morrow."

 Deverick retired to their room,and assumed his companions would do likewise. He oiled his armor and weapons before he retired for the night.

Ovo sat besides Deverick giving his weapons and armor the same attention as the big warrior.

"Ye know lad... sooner or later we'll be face'n sum high n' mighties o' our own. Now then ye n' me were nearly done for in that cellar. Blossom wold 'ave spelled us but nay fer ye I'd be talk'n ta me ancestors right now. Wot I'm try'n ta say... we'd best be careful least we wind up dead. On the morrow we go forth on missions once more. I'd like ta think o' ah way to lure these creatures out in the open. Mayhaps we could be think'n on this."

Blossom did not spend as much time on her studded armor but her broadsword was in her hand and no doubt she held it in high esteem. She looked down the edge of it and nodded in satisfaction.

"I tink vee should use Ren as bait. Mayhaps dese tings vould try fer him ahgain. Mayhaps?"

 Deverick ran a wet stone over the edge of the Great Sword,making a rasping sound. " We had each other back in that cellar, Ovo. Ye would av been there fer me,so it all be good. As for what ye said bout the bastards we fought,aye. Those two where seasoned Warriors,nay green wet behind th ears recruits. Th only thing I can think of,be th hirin o' those six buggers we met at th Green Dragon. At least we would av some back up if those bastards have at us. "

Ovo chuckled and nodded "Especially if'n Ren will suit their arses wi' chain. I could spend coin for ah shield. Wot about ye two? We best give them ah small job or two at first. Jus ta see if'n we can trust 'em."

Blossom "I vill buy two shields Borcarsen if ya vill get da fourth. There be four ya? Vee vill double our numbers vee vill. Vot do ya dink of Ren's plan for us ta be his special agents. I vonder how much he vill pay us. Vee need more coin than jus common sellswords methinks."

"We av ta pay ten Orbs a head fer em ta join th guild. It nay be seemly fer us ta hire non Guild merc,and we being Guild. Alright. I will split th cost o' outfitting em,if Ren will pay em."

Ovo scowled at the mention of the Merc fees but finally nodded "Aye Gelbrun would nay like that n' he's been gud ta us 'e has. Well... I'll pay fer one... Blossom one... ye Devercik another n' Ren can pay fer the last. We be his men after all. He be pay'n fer their mail n' we'll pay fer their shields. That's sounds like ah gud split ta me."

Blossom nodded to the dwarf "Aye! I'll pay fer two shields n' one merc fee. Dat's gud! Ren n' ya boyz can pay fer da rest yah? Now vee should get sum sleep. Da morn'n vill cum ta quickly yah?"

Even as the three companions had settled down for the evening, a great commotion could be heard outside their door. Before anyone could react the door to their room began to rattle and shake. Within a few heartbeats it creak and then flew open followed by a huge gust of wind. The wind moved across the room... Deverick could swear it headed for the maiden!

 With all of them talked out,and weary from the day's endeavors, they retired to their beds. Deverick blew out the last candle,and settled in for the night. Suddenly the door acted like it was being assaulted by a storming party. When it flew open by what seemed to be a gust of wind, Dev rolled out of the bed and latched into the hilt of the Great Sword leaning up against the wall by his bed. " Blossom,Ovo! Beware!!" He was in a classical fight stance without even thinking about it. His eyes darted around the room seeking an enemy,but there was only the wind. The Warrior was clad only in a loin cloth, but the Great Sword made his feel the better for  the having of it.

As the wind rushes in it or some unseen force bowls over Ovo as he stands up and sends him sprawling. Next, Blossom's blonde locks are blown backwards as she made a strike with her broadsword! Then she is hit as if by some unseen force! Almost like a fist of some savage ogre!

 Deverick did his best to determine where the thing might be and swung the great sword..and encountered....nothing.

Ovo picked himself groggily from the floor and shook his head as if to clear it. The dwarf grabbed his battle axe and swung it at where he thought the attacker to be. Yet, maybe he was still with a foggy mind or he misjudged his foe but the axe clove through air only...

Blossom, still reeling from the solid blow alos swung a vicious backhand slash at the unseen attacker before her and like the dwarf did not feel her father's sword meet the foe...

The foe, though invisible, swung, clawed, or punched the maiden before it. The blow obviously connected as the maiden was flung backwards and her sword fell from nerveless fingers...

The unseen creature then lifted the unmoving barbarian from the floor...

 The Warrior saw Blossom knocked prone and perhaps senseless. The "Thing" then lifted the Barbarian from the floor,its intent to escape with the woman,perhaps. Deverick felt a sudden white hot anger fill him with rage, at the thought of one of his comrades being captured. His battle cry burst forth as he aimed his Great Sword in low cuts towards the "things" "legs?" to avoid the chance of striking Blossom.

" Haarrrooo!!! Ye shall not have her!"

 His sword sang the song of battle in its movements.

 If possible, Deverick would interpose himself between the door and the "Thing"

Ovo planted his feet and swung his axe in a wide arc but did not connect. However, on on a savage back-swing his axe bit into something! There was no cry of pain of even a thudding that usually sound when his axe drove home.

Yet the thing, whatever it was, blew past the dwarf sending him reeling off balance. The maiden still being carried by an invisible arm or arms...
