A couple of blasts hit it from overhead, then your attack - all slamming into some sort of force barrier around it. Finally your second blast seems to have broken through, it hisses as some of your blast leaves some burns on its shoulder, then its through the portal!

Looking through you can see a desolate wasteland of red sands and rocks, the demon is not immediately visible any more..if you want to follow

Okay guys, stay ready!! says Denver over his com link..

He'll take a few steps away from the portal, but keep his weapon trained on it, waiting to see if anything else will come through, waiting waiting waiting...

The portal abruptly winks out, leaving you standing in the middle of the clearing, the light has vanished leaving just black markings in the ground and the dead bodies of the demons' poor victims...[note it is still day, though]

Lets do a quick search of the area to see if there are any other Dee Bees around and if not I need to return to base to report this in.

With that Denver will walk around a bit on the ground while his grunts do an aerial check of the nearby area....

The area shows no monsters or anything else alive, just the five bodies. All are humans, three men and two women. Two of the men are nearly naked, while the third is wearing robes as is one of the women, while the other is wearing a skirt/casual gear. As you check the last body, she opens her eyes and looks at you seeming to want to say something, then blood comes out of her mouth and she goes limp, definitely dead...

[Denver can have 200 xp for the mission so far..]

Denver looks frustrated and saddened by the waste of life caused by the demon, especially when it was all part of a plan to ambush him, Denver will swear to himself vengeance upon that demon foe sometime in the near future.

Deciding that a targeted ambush against a CS patrol by an old foe warrants reporting in, Denver will order the men to return to base and he'll seek out the CO immediately...

You get back to the base without further incident, and you find Frigate doing some paperwork over a cup of coffee in his office.
'Hey Denver, come on in...what's up?' he says seeing your expression... (he has been a bit more informal since your promotion)

Sir remember those Dee Bees in the castle we took out? One of their leaders escaped and swore revenge on me personally, well today he was waiting and tried to suck me into some rift, we were able to stop him yet he escaped. He used a bunch of human sacrifices to open the gate! I thought I should report this, as it was a delibrate ambush upon our patrol, there is a chance he may return! Um I don't know if there is much we can do about it until he tries again, but I just thought I better get back here and report it.

As Denver talks he'll take a seat and sit down across from the boss.

'F***ing D-bees! I remember the guy from the attack. Seems like he's too chicken**** to take us on face to face, but yeah if he's come back once he'll be back again. The teleporting makes him hard to catch...'
'I'll report this back to headquarters. Tactically, one thing I should teach you before you head off and command you're own troop one of these days, always take it to the enemy if you can, you don't let them pick the time or the place. How we do that, I don't know. Maybe we set up a trap so that if he wants you he has to come get you. When I talk to headquarters I'll see if there's some way we can get a homing beacon or something on the little b**** so that if he thinks he's gotten away, we can hunt him down and frag his a**.
I guess better leave normal patrols for a bit, I'll make some calls...here you fill out this 'D-bee encounter form'...
he says passing you some paperwork..

Yes sir, thanks! I will just fill this in and then I hope I can still do something useful while I'm around the base? Maybe some gate guard duty or something sir??
Denver will get to work on the paperwork...

'OK then soldier..!'
Since actually most CS soldiers can't read [though I presume you can??], the paperwork is pretty much online at a terminal listening to some questions and dictating a record of what happened into a mike, as well as following some prompts of what buttons to press ["If the D-bee was large and scaly, press 1"].
After that you get back to guard duty for a bit, but no alien horrors materialize...

Everything is fine up until the evening meal, when the commander again finds you. 'Have been talking to some people about our problem, they've decided to send down a psi-stalker pack from Lone Starr, and some specialized tech, to check it out.'

After that Scraps will come up and see if you want to go play pool...

Great I'd love to see that damn Dee Bee laid out dead with a few laser blasts to the chest! Hope the psi-stalkers will be able to track him down! Thanks sir!

Denver will indeed spend time talking with Scraps and fill him in on what he's been up too, and also ask him about how his wound is coming along...

All good now! Scraps says. Nasty scar though!
He also hopes the psi-stalkers will catch the nasty d-bee...

Time passes...
The next day on guard duty, a half a dozen hovercycles drops off nearby, you can see there are two people with the spiked helmets of psi stalkers and four dog boys. 'Greetings to base.' comes a transmission in to where you're waiting, in a nearly-human-but-not-quite sounding voice..

Welcome to base! Good to see you guys here, got some work for you!

Denver will reply eyeing off the psi-stalker, never having been too close to one before, but having seen them about the place plenty of times before, he wondered if he would get a chance to work with this one or not and learn a bit more about them.

'So we hear.' says one psi-stalker, a male voice. 'Delicious mages, yess?' comes a female voice, sounding amused.
The two psi-stalkers come closer, taking off their helmets, while several dog boys trail behind. One seems male and the other female, both are bald and pale-skinned 'Greetings, soldier. I am Danforth, this is my sister Aldora, it will be...our pleasure..to help you with your wizard problems. And these are Spot, Spike, Tom-Tom, Bennie, Clara and Sunni. he adds, gesturing to the dog boys.
The female adds, You are the cyborg, who is being hunted by this...d-bee? We have seen the report, but we do have a few questionss...?

Denver is the name, yes I am the cyborg who filed the report, I am more than happy to help in any way possible. I guess I should take you through to the commander then?

With that Denver will start to lead the two psi-stalkers and possibly their pack of dogboys towards the commanders office. Thinking to himself how these guys are quite creepy, but then again its good to have somebody with their abilities on your side at least.

Very well then, lead on.. says the woman but about then the commander comes out, nods to the two. Great, you're here. OK come to my office
Soon the four of you are in the office, you and the commander have cups of coffee (while the stalkers have declined any proffered food). They ask a few more questions about the type of d-bee, the incidents, and so on...you can tell them anything you particularly want them to know. One of the two bring out a device like a flare gun that they say microinjects a small homing beacon...'We would be quite interested in visiting this site where you were ambushed perhaps? You can come or not, one of us at least should be near you to see if we can sense any magics being used to find your locations though...

Happy to do anything that will help bring some Dee bees closer to their well deserved doom. I'll definately come along, I've not worked beside your kind before and I'd love the oppertunity to see you guys in action!

The stalkers sigh happily at your response, grinning slightly..
Then let us be off...the male says. Here, take this. He hands you the flare gun type thingy.
Soon everyone is aboard sky cycles heading back toward the site of the ambush, the female is sticking close to you on the back of your cycle (chatting inconsequentially over the radio link, regular speech isn't that audible over the rushing wind) and several of the dog boys follow..

A couple of hours travel brings you to near the edge of your patrol range, where you found the demons diabolical  :) trap.
I cannot sense any magic on us, any scrying attempts, so far... says the Psi-Stalker close behind you. And yet...I do feel something nearby? Residual magic perhaps. Best be ready!

Seconds later, you come into visual range of the clearing where the ritual occurred...and it is inhabited, but not by the demon! Perhaps something worse..

You can see parked at one corner of the clearing is a very large winged lizard, which has a set of saddles on its back, not far away from it near the remains of one of the bodies is a man wearing robes (over armour) and a gas mask, while at the other end of the clearing are a tall and very slender blonde woman with pointy ears wearing robes, a blueish reptilian creature, and three stumpy-looking creatures, most likely the stunty D-bees called "dwarves", dressed as wilderness scouts. One stops chewing on a cigar and points at the lot of you at about the same time you see them.

Denver's first thoughts are that they are outgunned, but he's not sure what the psi-stalkers want to do, so he'll quickly whiz over and then do an arc back around giving time for the psi-stalkers to decide what to do, while keeping himself out of immediate range of fire... his thoughts are to get back to base and come back with reinforcements....

Mages! Too many brother! comes the female's voice.
Yes, pull back... agrees the male. The dogs turn their cycles likewise and you move a distance back.

The cycles start turning around, a deep voice that sounds amused makes 'buk buk buk buk' noises over the radio on the Coalition frequency.

Despite himself Denver smiles at the taunt coming from the dragon, but he was happy for the fellow to call him a chicken, at the end of the day he was alive to fight on and that was what counted, deciding not to use CS channels Denver will motion back towards base and try to head back that way as fast of possible, hoping to pick up some reinforcements to tip the balance and come back and blast them, if they were stupid enough to hang around....

You move on a ways, switching to short-range radio that can't be detected easily to talk among yourselves, far behind you you can see the dragon lift up into the air, but from your experience with these things sky cycles are much faster. Soon that dwindles out of sight in the distance.
Then...several of the dog boys yip (and one howls) it seems almost involuntarily for them, though you can't see anything out of the ordinary. Behind you, the psi-stalker says "Magic. A scrying, I think."
