I have a redhead with ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder.  I don't have to use him, I have to keep him from going off on his own....

Re: This Title Needed to Get Changed

It's the Glock model 21 that is the .45. A standard mag for it is 13+1

I know because that's my primary duty carry. I also have a G30 as my secondary. It's smaller size makes it better for carrying on a plane and it's more comfortable to carry if I'm just planning on being in the office.

No guns. Dream of getting an Artic Warfare Magnum .308 British one day. Glock 22 full frame and a Swiss pistol that escapes me. Can't get one of the pistols I want only made for the Texas rangers.

Again, Glocks are nice.  But I prefer multiple mechanical safeties or a decock around the kids.  A cop in a school gym had a third grader discharge his while in his holster.  Luckily, he was sitting on the bleachers.

Re: This Title Needed to Get Changed

How?! If it's in a holster, even a level one holster, it's impossible to pull the trigger, even on purpose, let alone on accident. A level two or three holster makes it flat out even act of God proof for negligent discharges.

Not saying you're wrong, I just literally cannot envision how it could happen. They only way is to actually take the pistol out of the holster. At that point, it doesn't matter how many safeties it has, any pistol will fire if you finger Frack it enough.

Re: This Title Needed to Get Changed

Yeah I like redundant safeties, but I believe the best one is the human brain. I plan on keeping the ammo biometric locked and the weapons unloaded. But more to the point my kids will be trained on how to deal with the weapons and safety regarding them. As for the cop's gun discharging in my area we call that negligence. He shouldn't have been sitting near kids with a gun holstered or otherwise. Just saying.

The kid pulled it free just enough while the officer was speaking with other kids.
My kids know not to handle them unless I give the okay.  They know I carry, they know to get behind something if I draw.  I've shown my oldest how to handle a handgun, but he has no interest in it.  My middle learned to shoot a .22 rifle last year at summer camp.  My youngest... Well, he's the redhead with ADHD and ODD.  I think they are covered by the Geneva and Hague Conventions.  Pretty much under:  NEVER TO BE USED IN A MILITARY ROLE.  I was an exception, my hair darkening to brown by highschool.

A lot of us here know quite a bit about firearms......

Weapons retention and not letting someone go near your holstered pistol was literally beat into me while I was in the USMC getting trained to guard Embassies.  So was the use of lethal force.

Army does the same with MPs, and I'm sure our guys did that to the Jarheads they trained in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.  I was commo, qualified on the m1911, pulled some MP duties, but the quit accepting OJT about the time I enlisted.

In reply to Jason Damien (msg # 1056):

The training for a Marine Embassy Guard is probably little bit more intensive then training to be an MP (which in itself has got to be intensive). Maybe our training was as intensive (or more then) then the Airmen and Marines responsibly for guarding nuclear weapons. Also since we were essentially being loaned out to the US State Department that organization had much to say about the training and selection process. Most classes suffer a 20-50% drop rate (for example my class dropped 50% back in 2000).

Sounds almost like a special operations arm.  Maybe there weren't enough good crayons to eat....;)  Had to go there.  Can't converse with a Marine without a little good-natured ribbing.

Close but not quite special operations.  Although they look for specific individuals with a specific mind set personally training to be an Embassy Guard may be close to what you’d have to do to become a US Army Ranger or US Marine Recon but not quite.

When compared to other Marines, Marine Embassy Guards are slightly more domesticated and don’t eat crayons. Of course we all know what ARMY is an acronym for: Ain’t Ready to be Marines Yet.

Exactly.  My boss is a former Coastie.  One of my best friends is retired Air Force, another best friend and my father were both Marines.  Lots of Army and Marines, a West Point graduate, and an Air Force Academy graduate, are in my family.

Good exception. It is a short list to be fair, but you seem to be on it. And Marines stands for My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment Sir. To be fair my favorite military accomplishment was drinking a supposed SEAL team under a table.

My greatest military accomplishment, besides having three Honorable Discharges, was being asked by a guy who served in the 26th MEU to watch his six when he went into a bad neighborhood to find his runaway son.

Can't argue with that, since I was an AAV crewmen (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...t_Amphibious_Vehicle) while in the fleet.

Did you find the guys kid?

Well I can't claim to having gone to any of the sand boxes, and I won't try to brag about being someplace I wasn't. But the three embassies I was at were all interesting in thier own ways. Dar es Salaam Tanzania, Bogota Colombia, and Seoul South Korea.

I bet they were.  My only claim to military travel was Desert Shield/Storm.  Eight months in Saudi Arabia, with an overnight mail escort run to Camp Freedom near KIA in Kuwait, and two trips for R&R to Bahrain.  Plus the stop overs on the way there and coming back home.  Luckily, no combat.  But there were a shitload of lethal traffic accidents.

Hey WtF? My dad was a CG small boat pilot from 67-69 in Vietnam, then he was recruited to join a "special warfare" team. He was technically C/G for his entire career but he spent like 20 years on a seal team. You really want to compare cred with him?

Now, see, back then Coat Guard was Department of Transportation.  They didn't become officially part of the DoD until after 9/11, even though they often worked closely with the Navy because of overlapping areas of influence.
And, yes, we pick on our Bastard Step-Brothers, too.  They are not immune to the military rivalry.
