Re: Scene 10: Rumble in La Ciudad
“And just like that, it’s over,” the thought flashed through Ethan’s mind as the sounds of combat; the bangs of gun fire, the crashing and breaking of wooden boards, the howls of the Undead, even the sound of his own heavy breathing, just faded away. It was a funny thing and something that still surprised him even after all the combat actions he had been in; the sudden stop at the end. For him, it was just as sharp and shocking as the start of combat. Perhaps that was because that’s all he ever really remembered; the moment the violence started and the moment it ended. Everything in between was just a blur, no more real than a mirage seen from a distance.
The men out of time took a deep breath and removed his helmet, showing his face for the first time since the action had begun. He appreciated the offer of tequila even though it was not his preferred drink. When it came to liquor he was a fan of whiskey, preferably bourbon though scotch would do in a pinch. Whatever his preferences though, he didn’t refuse the offered tequila. “These people need to celebrate and feel like they need to thank us,” he thought as he took a glass. He swirled it once, brought it to his lips and then downed it in one go, swallowing quickly. The rough, clear alcohol burned its way down his throat as he handed the glass back. “Thank you,” he said and smiled.
Then came the axe, another show of appreciation for what his companions had done. He agreed with his wife when she said that the axe should go to Polk. “It’s like a guidon,” he said and gestures at Sir Arulas. “That’s like a mascot, as he said. Basically a visible symbol that the rest of can follow in battle. A reminder of past accomplishments to draw strength from during times of stress…like fighting blood sucking monsters that are a real pain to destroy.”
Ethan was smiling as he spoke for he was happy that everyone had made it through the night. Then Kalista leaned into him and whispered in his ear. His skin flushed and it had nothing to do with the tequila. He put his arm around her waist and cleared his throat. “So what is next on our agenda?”
