Character Creation Thread
Hey everyone!

Looks like we have our players, so lets get started making characters. Ask any questions you have here, and this is also a good place to work out how well your characters know each other. Give us a rundown of how long your characters have been in town and where they are staying.

When character stats are worked out I will make a thread with everyone's final sheets. As far as format goes I don't know the best way to do that on rpol, so to start just use whatever you are comfortable with.

Start as novices without any advances. If there is an element of your backstory you want to come out to the group in a more organic way just send me a pm.

I like to take the characters into account when designing my setting, so more setting info will be available as we move through the creation process.

The sheet I tend to use the most often, if anyone is in need.

It does require a fixed width font, so you might need to include either the or

at the beginning and end of the sheet.

Forgot to mention, to keep things simple for equipment just convert your starting dollars to Crowns at 1:1. Once we get into the game that might change, but for now go with that.

Don't worry about buying a place to stay or anything, you can start with a home or whatnot at no cost. What form that takes depends on how you want to portray your character.

Though our resident "bartender" might want to take the Rich edge or some extra starting money to represent the fact that they own a tavern and inn. Unless you want your business to be on hard times, which is also fine.

Speaking of money, how do you want to handle the minutia? Should we just be worrying about big ticket items? Do you need to buy rope, a lantern, etc, or is it assumed you have access to them? Trail rations?

Not sure how much emphasis you want to put on bookkeeping now and/or when things get going.

Depending on your character's living and financial situation I think we can assume you would have access to mundane items or tools related to your trade/day to day life. Lets call the upper limit of this assumption 50, so anything 75 crowns or higher you have to buy. Though hiking boots are something I assume you have.

That said you should make a note of what items you bring with you should you ever leave Tairn. You will have to aquire food or other supplies by foraging or buying them. There is an upper limit on how many supplies you can put in your pack by weight, and trail rations only last one week before spoiling.

Also at some point you may have to resupply your homes with certain supplies if they are damaged or you go through too much food, but I dont expect that to come up too often.

Here is my current idea + built

Background: Rhys was part of an up and coming adventuring group called Children of Magic - they were five childhood friends who'd gone to The Great Magi school together. Each had a talent in the art just different areas. Rhys was best at utility, a bit offense and bit defense. Ivor was the warrior using his abilities to enhancer his fighting; Maxen had a knack for taking what wasn't his; Afon was able to command animals and heal.

After a few adventures they found out abot a after a cult which was attempting to raise an evil. Children of Magic tried to stop them and failed ... horribly. The cult brought back the evil which killed the cult before destroying an entire city. All but Rhys of the Children of Magic sacrificed themselves to seal it away again. Rhys was left to finish the magics and ensure the seal took.

Rhys went far away, leaving all he knew as he couldn't handle what had to be done. He wandered the land for some time until he ended up in Tairn. He's stayed in the town for over a five decades, serving to help those as best he can but mostly keeping to himself.

Hindrances
Loyal (Minor) The hero tries to never betray or disappoint his friends
Death Wish (Minor) Hero wants to die after completing some task

Pondering which of these to take
Lame (Major) –2 Pace and running die is a d4
Bad Eyes (Major) –2 to attack or notice something more than 5” distant
Elderly (Major) Pace –1, –1 to Strength and Vigor die types; +5 skill points for any skill linked to Smarts

Lev is likely done.

Unless I goofed up somewhere. :D

Rhys, if you're still undecided, I've always found that the Elderly hindrance is great if you're actually looking to play someone who's as old as they look. Bad eyes, ears, and other such (potentially comedic) ailments are, of course, optional. ^_^

=================================DESCRIPTION==================================
Lev is a dark haired, rough cut young man in his mid twenties. Dressed typically
in homespun, skins, or leather it’s obvious he spends most of his time deep in
the forests between Tairn and the Sawtooths.

==================================BACKGROUND=================================
The Rivers clan has been in and around the Sawtooths for generations. Known as
hunters, trappers, trackers, and guides it’s rare for any of them to take up
residence in any town or village. Lev is no exception, eking out a living away
from the rest of his kin, he set up a homestead a long walk from Tairn and is
known about the village for coming in once a fortnight or so to trade goods and
stock up on whatever supplies he’s unable to easily secure himself.

Just not sure I LOVE the idea of Strength and Vigor never going past d4 ... rather have something like Veteran of the Weird West to show Rhys's age.

Re: Character Creation Thread
Alrighty, everyone has either posted their characters here or sent them to me via PM. Just a few final things to work out.

Specifically, it looks like some of you have been in town for a while. How well do you know each other? Where does your character live? Looks like Desbaros lives in the tavern ("The Bearded Bear"), and Lev lives just north of town in the wooded foothills, but Rhys and Grant could be anywhere.

I'm also not sure how long Grant has been in town, but I got the impression from his backstory it was a recent move. If that's the case then it might make sense for him to be staying in a room at the Bearded Bear for now.

Feel free to chat for a bit here or in OOC until we have the last things ironed out. I should be good to start playing tomorrow or the day after. Sound good to you guys?

Also: now that your sheets are ready would you prefer a sticky with them all laid out or just to put them in your character bios? Either works for me.

Grant is a new arrival, and is staying at the bearded bear :)

I'd say he arrived maybe two days ago? Long enough to be noticed. Short enough to be a mystery still. Well, stranger. He's pretty loud haha

Re: Character Creation Thread
I would certainly say that Lev knows Rhys, if by nothing else than at least by reputation.

I'm not sure what sorts of assistance Rhys provides to the folks of Tairn so I don't know that he'd have had the need and/or opportunity to engage him in such.

As for Desbaros, since it seems like The Bearded Bear has been established and in operation for at least a few years, I'm sure Lev has patronized the establishment on more than a few occasions when he's come into town (not sure what sort of competition the Bear might have in Tairn), and perhaps overnighted there as well rather than make the trip to and from his homestead in a single day.

And as a final note, I've set your character sheets to be editable by you so you may fill them in. Format isn't that important, just so long as it is clear to me where everything is. One of the formats uploaded earlier would be ideal but not required for me.

I am ready to get started when you are, I would just like to reiterate that a minimum of one post a day would be peferred. If you are busy for a few days let me know, we can figure that out as it comes up. Please make a post here to indicate you are ready to start and your final sheet has been uploaded to your bio.

Looking forward to getting underway!
