The graze is enough, enough to annoy Lyla that is. She grunts when ducking behind the pew, leaning her back on it and taking a breather. She takes that short moment to assess the distance and take a peek at the street. The distance was not too great, perhaps great enough for them to think they are safe. But the empty street did also give Lyla a chance to reach them with relative ease, without the danger of bumping into people.

She exhales quickly, and then rolls away from behind the pew and dashes out of the doors. Her shadows extend to cover her, bending some lamppost shades a bit wider, turning a persons shadows just to a better corner. She's might not be the fastest runner, but she is one to take advantage of her surroundings.

It'd be enough if she could get to the same building. Facing someone on the open street sounded so unlike her style.

Arc 1, Thread 2:  Bughunt (Lyla)

The street has begun to clear with the sound of the rifle shot; people are scattering once they realize what's happening.  That gives Lyla some leeway and cover, but not a lot.  As soon as she starts running out there's an explosion right next to her.  A trap!  It's a hastily-placed claymore mine, sending a shower of murderous ball bearings at her, but she's too fast even for that; the steel blows a hole through a wall behind her.

She's off like a streak into the first floor of the building, what seems to be a quaint little bank.  Everyone inside looks at her wide-eyed and frightened.

Endings sure didn't spare their surroundings when fighting. Oh the havoc they'd caused on their path. Lyla would give a deep sigh of disappointment if she wasn't so busy running and dashing past the flying debris. She partially cartwheels into the bank from the doors, and quickly pounces to feet, staring at the surrounding people almost as wide-eyed.

She hastily clears her throat, and wipes her face to rid of the dust that was floating around on the street. Her essences dark shadow tentacles turn to a hue of blue with some tint of golden, as Lyla touches her forehead, revealing her rarely seen castemark in an attempt of not causing more panic.

"Blue Fox, chosen of Sol Invictus, here in official business of capturing a culprit that is currently stationed on the roof of this building. Where're the stairs up?" She shoots at the nearest bank official.

"You, evacuate the building in an orderly fashion," she turns to the nearest security officers...err sheriffs?

The bank manager nods with wide eyes, pointing up the stairs.  Oh, man- two flights.  The perfect place for an ambush.  Lyla knows instinctively this is a trap, that Hales has her firing angles pre-picked.

But in the lightning-fast world of Exalted combat, the mortals here are sluggish and slow.  It's almost comical how slow even a panicked evacuation is.  The bank manager starts shouting to get everyone to calmly leave, but that can't be Lyla's #1 concern right now.

((Lyla CGs to floor 2))

Watching the people proceed like snails in the eyes of a caffeine pumped squirrel, Lyla furrows her brows at the stairs and takes a slow breath, in and out.

Then she continues towards the staircase, slower, more cautiously, seeing what there is to come. She steps forward with her back to the wall, sticking to any inkling of a shadow there is. One floor at a time was good enough at this stage.

Lyla reaches the second floor, an office area full of cubicles and poor lighting that opens up directly to the landing.  She sticks to a shadow, but...

... There's a fairly androgynous, somewhat cute girl with bright purple eyes, short hair, and an I KIL U t-shirt sitting on a chair with a giant rifle pointed right at her.  She smiles and waves at Lyla"I see you, bitch!"  Instinctively Lyla can sense a shitload of Sidereal essence, she's not even really THERE!

Then she opens fire at the woman, blasting away at the shadows and trying to force her up the stairs into the kill zone!

Ah, the cubicles, an environment where she had never actually had to work. And now her working there was something completely different than sitting by a computer. Lyla is partially glad to finally be ALMOST face to face with this certain someone who had been a thorn on her side for the whole day. And happy to notice how accurate the vague descriptions of her have been.

But that's as far as her thoughts manage to go, when she opens fire at her.

"Language, you little fuck!" Lyla retorts as she grabs the railing on the staircase, and hoists herself up on her arms, like the gymnast she had been years ago.

Her essence does diminish, not giving her that extra cover, but that doesn't mean she'd be left bare. Far from it, as the air seems to ripple with some shades of blue distorting the distance between them and rendering her knockback attempt futile as neither was Lyla where she was supposed to be.

Perched upon the railing Blue Fox takes advantage of the small break in the continuous fire, and vault over her arms, dashing upwards to the third floor. She'd most likely enter a world of pain, but at least she knew to expect it and nothing would be gained by being a sitting duck in this corridor.

Her shadows envelop her and blot out the little light there is, when she pounces up from the stairs, ready to dodge the hell away whatever was coming her way. She'd only need a glimpse of where Hales would be, and before Hales would have a chance to move anywhere, Blue Fox would already be by her side no matter where she'd look, her talons thirsty.

Hales doesn't look particularly surprised.  The androgynous, frankly troubled-looking teenager already has Lyla's number once she's up the stairs.  Though the Solar is more than capable of stopping her flight out the window- the girl is strangely light on her feet- Hales retaliates by winging Lyla's right arm and sending another viciously-placed gunshot at her opponent.

"Only one of us is making it alive out of here and that's going to be me!"

Hales' capabilities take Lyla by surprise, in a controversially delighted way. Given she never had a chance to joust with the previous Endings. It was a shame to see someone so young putting this talent to such a BS use. Her punch lands, but Lyla manages to tumble away from the shot by abusing the momentum of it. Better that than a whole in her stomach.

When she shouts her declaration, something in Lyla expression changes, from troubled to more amused but stern. The fox was ready to play, and her toy had been given such false ideas that it all made the situation easier to abuse to her advantage.

Momentarily a darkness that almost rivals that out of the empty and vast space sweeps past the floor, that they are in, and Blue Fox seems to gain an ominous glow from it.

"You couldn't be more wrong," she lowers herself, claws ready to pounce."No-one will die, and both of us will leave, I just won't expect your permission for it."

Hales narrows her eyes as Lyla somehow manages to dodge her superlative strike- Lyla knows, in that exact moment, that the Sidereal isn't used to things not going her way.  Lyla had gone right through her defenses and only took a small scratch.

But the sidereal isn't giving up.  She's already begun scrutinizing her opponent.

Funny enough, Bluefox does recognize the need to have things going your way. She had always strived to fullfill whatever her goal was at that moment. She had always yearned for success. But...she had always been ready to work for it no matter the pain and the cost. Not at the expense of others, but at the expense of herself. That was what set them apart. And even if her hit had landed worse on Bluefox, she'd continue as long as need be, until there'd be nothing left.

Momentarily getting the upper-hand from the Sidereal and their wellplaced trap, Bluefox disappears in her shadows, while the light in the room is devoured by them. Her footsteps dampen in the veil that sets around them, when she sets for a prowl. Out of the darkness two set of talons flash somehow on opposite sides and directions, cutting the air and aiming for her arms to prevent Hales from attacking.

Hales is clearly faltering.  The young Sidereal may be preternaturally skilled but her reserves are lacking, especially compared to Lyla.  The Solar's attacks blow through her defenses, opening up a cut on her right arm.  So, instead of going all-out on her attack she simply tries to restrict the Solar's choices, firing at key points to reduce Lyla's overall options.

The fox usually liked to play with their opponent, toying to see how long this meddle would continue. But not this time, no, for she had tasted blood and yearned for revenge. Yearned to show what it was that others had been through due to her actions. Yearned to put an end to this that she had been after, to solve it, quickly as if that'd put the other in their place faster. Faster so she'd get to hear the reasoning behind this madness.

She was not one for dramatic speeches. She was not one to show off her power in lenght. She was one adrenaline junkie, who dashed from place to place. Bluefox shows no sign of strain, as time after time she disappears into the shadows, to evade Hales' futile attempt at slowing her down.

Kicking some speed from the wall, she dashes towards her gun, hoping to disarm her most likely at the cost of her weapons integrity. Wouldn't be the first time her talons would tear metal. Her anima glowing ominously blue, she aims her talons low, delibarely avoiding any important organs if her hit would land. It'd hurt, sure, but at least she'd be still alive.

"Just. stop," she growls at her.

The sidereal tries to swing her weapon to bear but the Blue Fox is much too fast.  The claws find purchase on her gun, ripping it to pieces in one fell swoop.  Vast gashes rend down her arm, cutting it open to the bone yet somehow missing absolutely fatal arteries.  Hales falls back bleeding, clutching her wounded arm with wide and disbelieving eyes.  The brilliant, mad purple dances with insane rage and then dulls.  She has been caught.  The idea that she could have lost has never occurred to her.

Maybe that is, in fact, the surest sign she is insane.  Who can hide from Lyla?

Blue Fox' gaze is almost ablaze as she regards her opponent, that has now fallen. Her shadows dance around, curling back and growling like a predator still ready to attack. It takes a moment from her to push the adrenaline back, and silence the urge for revenge. She heaves a heavy breath, her talons evaporating.

She brushes her hair back, and tilts her head when looking at Hales. Lyla was certain she might disappear at any moment, or that someone might appear to assist her. Serenity had mentioned that she was getting help from someone, and that someone wasn't something Lyla wanted to encounter now. With luck the assistance was given from a distance...with bad luck Lyla would find a knife in her back any moment now. She shrugs the sceptism away; so many Ifs around that she could drown herself in them.

She sends a message to Sonia:"Think I'm done with shopping for today. The bag got suddenly rather heavy."

Her thoughts linger, and then she taps another message to Battles:"Hope u r not busy. Tldr version later. Found a different Endings, might need help in transporting her."

Ugh, how to explain this mess easily.

Then she looks at Hales, and her arm:"Hurts?"

Its rather troublesome of a bag, so sure. Don't want to upset the locals tho with such expensive shit, she responds to Sonia whilebabsentmindedly digging her jeans pockets.

Then she glances from the message sent by Battles to Hales, and back again.

"Too bad. I guess your intel on me was shittier than I thought," she flips out a small easily concealable syringe, that she nonchalantly pokes to Hales' better arm. "Sssh now, talk to you later."

Glad of her habit of dragging about a tranquillizing ampoule with her, she waits until Hales' is unconsious. She could've punched the girl out cold, but that felt too much, even though MA had asked Lyla to punch some teeth in for him.

She turns back to respond to Battles, tugging her scarf off to use it as a makeshift bandage for Hales' arm.

She is out cold like a baby. Bleeding somewhat tho. Dodged an artery. Thx. Buy me a drink and we r square.

Its somewhat of a relief to see Hales slump over and pass out just like anyone else would. There is a sense of finality in it, something that marked that Lyla had actually gotten to this point despite the obstacles on the way. How she had relentlessly and haphazardly pushed forward towards this goal, not stopping on the way... not the smartest choice but hey usually time was not on her side.

She types back to Battles:Sold. How could I object or trump that.

Then she turns to her sudden discovery. Now that Hales was out and not bleeding all over the place so much, she had an actual chance to look at the girl...and rummage through her pockets. While absentmindedly patting her through, Lyla turns to look at the cellphone, quickly seeing if it was unlocked or if there were messages waiting on the screen. With luck she could use Hales fingerprints to unlock it without the need to guess some passwords.

...wait did Battles just offer to cook...Kumiho will die if she hears of this, Lyla realizes, a flush of red running through her face, before she manages to shrug it off as nothing and turn back to the task at hand.

The password is hard enough to figure out, but her captive's fingerprints work perfectly.  The background screen of Hales' phone is an eye-gougingly gory and disturbing anime image.  She has a few games, including CORE-CRUSH, where it looks like she's stuck on one of the upper levels of the game.  The contact menu, on the other hand, is a wealth of unmarked numbers.  She recognizes Cuttlefish's burner in the list.

The unfortunate part is that there are hundreds.

The texts are in code, too.  Not like her rudimentary code with Sonia- a much more in-depth code of gibberish and symbols.  The spy in her must be salivating at the thought of all this oodles of information.

Arc 1, Thread 2:  Bughunt (Lyla)

Yeah, can beat your ass black and blue to work up an appetite.
Up 4 the challenge of inventing smting to trump urs.
4real tho spent my ideas on finding this End.

She smirks, before looking at the phone again. Oh the code was a masterpiece, something she kind of expected from a Sidereal. Maybe some day she can reach the same height...then again her employees would need to do the same and that didn't really suit her. Working on that level of modesty was necessary, others could take the spot light and gloat with their fancy mechanics and inventions. She'd need help with cracking the code... If the phone wouldn't wipe itself empty before that.

Transferring the info on her own phone would be ideal solution, but given the risks it includes (who knows if Agent Orange would then infiltrate her phone) so she finds it better to just try to memorize at least part of the code. What caught her interest more, was the game. Hardly a coincidence with such a name. With that thought in mind, she begins to scroll the game in look out for similarities with reality in it.

The long day taking its toll, Lyla moves to lean on a nearby wall, passingly grasping her right shoulder that was soon beginning to ache. Oh yeah, she'd all forgotten about that one. How careless of her.

Arc 1, Thread 2:  Bughunt (Lyla)

dont threaten me w/good time
no worries
hard part is over

CORE-CRUSH is a disturbing name, yes, but it's hardly uncommon.  Almost everyone is addicted to the damn game nowadays... supposedly Core updated it almost every day to be harder and harder and- damn, wow, that's probably a great way to track superintelligent people, huh?  She knows she's had a few employees stuck on the lower levels for a while.

Hell, she's not sure she even recognizes this level.  CORE-CRUSH has a leaderboard and Hales' screen-name, LOLPUNK, is in the top 50 all-time.  Daily she's fallen to top 300, probably because she's not focused on the game.

The first person to find her is Sonia and some of her spy-friends.  The Neomah quickly bag up the Sidereal (injecting her with more drugs) and setting up to protect Lyla, not like she needs it.  Then there are the messages from the Ilmorijo, another from Juno... Cuttlefish's congregation must be found, with her Ombra agents hard at work there... and at the end of the day, the bug well and truly hunted, the only thing left to do is catch some much-needed rest and relaxation.
