Lucifer

Current status: Independent agent, occasionally involved in top-level decisions but rarely with politics. Specializes in breaching Void ships and eradicating enemy commanders and champions.

Daniel Matthews, known to most as Lucifer, was a nobody to society before Exaltation. Given a strict Catholic upbringing, he tried to turn the other cheek and do unto others as he would have them do unto him for a time, until the reality of life in Los Angeles finally convinced him to adopt a more Old Testament approach. He became a vigilante, ruthlessly hunting down crooks and raiding the property of crime lords, donating what funds he seized to charity.

His Exaltation came following an undead uprising in Churchill, wherein he fought off a zombified bear among other monsters before finally Exalting and demolishing the Nephwrack behind the disaster. This is where he took on the more widely known name of Lucifer.

Lucifer breached into the public eye in the prelude of Ragnarök by various shows of power and complete lack of self-preservation, including halting a crash-landing jet airliner by grasping its front and skidding to a halt on the landing strip (resulting in being promptly hospitalized) as well as fighting a giant Neverborn-wrought mechanical dragon along with Kyle Weston in Camden, defeating the monstrosity mere moments before being caught in the nuclear blast of a missile fired by the panicked government. During Ragnarök, as the Last Refuge was being created, he held the line against the servants of the Void in month-long holding actions. Nowadays he's considered one of the foremost combatants of the Last Refuge, usually spearheading the charge against the Neverborn by breaching their capital ships and taking down their commanders and champions.

Lucifer worked with Candlelight before it was snuffed out and taken over by the Neverborn, adding a personal grudge to his hatred for the Servants of the Void. He is also one of the few people with a personal connection to White Arcing Lightning, dating back to Earth before Ragnarök.

Jess Maraud

Appearance: A warm smile set in a perfect face and generous curves wrapped in flawless skin, Jess is a carefully coordinated sort of gorgeous that seems utterly out of place on the battlefield. Dresses eccentrically.

Current status: Leading an expanding cult of fans, Jess finds herself growing increasingly embroiled in politics. A pillar of the Last Refuge's morale, she specializes in attacking high value targets, such as Capitol Ships, with her Ares-class bomber Shofar. Currently in a committed rivalry with Red Queen.

Presently, Jess works to grow her influence on Last Refuge, using her music to give the desperate people on the ship succor in times of chaos and uncertainty. Far from just being a celebrity, she actively engages with the public in her downtime, doing her best to understand their situation and often irritating the other Pre-Exodites with some proposal or another the old men in the Political Theater insist is in dire need of review.

Having not really changed that much from the old days, Jess continues to use her music to encourage large scale acts of reproduction in the populace, a necessary process for regrowing humanity's so reduced numbers. Now if only she could explain her Blood Ape fanbase and the frequent riots that keep happening at her shows.

Lyla Raines

Age: around 35
Appearance: Fit and tall, 5'8 in/172cm, with mild apparent curves. Despite her innate talent to blend in the crowd, she is peculiarly beautiful looking with pale complexion and sad pale green eyes. Her skin is littered with freckles and there is always a lingering scent of vanilla and smoke, no matter if she is smoking a cigarette or not. Her clothing never really stands out, as she prefers to stick to loose jeans, boots and a tank top, her brown lightly curly hair messy as ever.

Anybody who has ever read the newspapers or followed the news, might remember Lyla as an Olympic medalist in uneven bars, who lost due to a failed landing. There has been talk that it was all a scheme and gossips ran thick. After that Lyla seemingly disappeared from the face of earth, only to appear some years later as a current Solar, having apparently met Sol Invictus through her work. She doesn't really gossip about the events.

After exaltation Lyla has been seen, and mostly not seen in her pilotsuit and in her Artemis -class Interceptor, which she jokishly calls Benisuzume, thinning the ranks from the behind taking advantage of her speed and ability to blend in. She is always around and really never around. Carrying a really strong hate towards plutocrats, she doesn't involve herself in politics, but rather leaves that into the hands of her twin brother, Kendal, and an ifrit acquintance, Sayeed, and instead spends time in the Underdecks or with other pilots encouraging each other for even more dangerous feats like the true daredevils that they are.

And she smokes cigarettes almost constantly, whether given permission or not.

Gabriel Hockenberry

Age: roughly 20
Appearance: Thin, average height, pale skinned, blue eyes, hair turned white when he drew the Second Breath. Lots of cheap tattoos. He still dresses like a common soldier.

Signed onto the military while still mortal and did well. Eventually placed as a boarding party specialist. It was aboard an ambush on a Soulsteel troop transport that he Exalted. Quite possibly the least established of the Chosen currently on the ship.

Current status: As the Chosen of Endings, Iapetus is entwined with the upper echelon of decision making on the ship, his role being the one to make the hard decisions, what parts of the ship to abandon for the greater good and what crimes are punishable with death to preserve resources for others. Most of the time acting on threats within the ship, when fighting against outside threats he aims to board enemy ships and eradicate major threats and commanders within.

Iapetus Hyperion appeared seemingly from nowhere, the former identity of the Chosen of Endings is known only by the other Sidereals, and few other in the Command of the ship.
Spends a lot of time with other Sidereals, especially with Battles.

Current status: Dedicated fighter pilot, Icarus-class.  Has some ties to the Voyagers but not a true member yet.

Pacifica Spacewolf was only a small child when the Last Refuge took off, taken from an orphanage in the last holdouts of the United Kingdom.  She spent two years as a mute, scrabbling around the Underdecks foraging a bleak existence.  She barely survived a run-in with an overly-playful Reactor Goblin and managed to drag herself to the nearest medical center, only to find herself at the very end of a very, very long line of people waiting for treatment.  Her subsequent exaltation- no doubt inspired by frustration- took the medics by surprise and so she jumped to the top of triage.  Exaltation unsealed her tongue and her mind, and her scrappy survivor spirit endeared her to Journeys.  Now she is the sidereal's protege, and commands a wing of pilots permanently stationed aboard the Enterprise- ready to react to any of Journeys' discoveries.

Pacifica has a hard time dealing with the chains of command, and is prone to speaking out of turn or not keeping radio silence.  She makes up for this with sheer star power, skill, and determination.

Current status: Admiral, commander of the Enterprise

Once the dual-nature of Sol Invictus under eclipse, Five Days Darkness has gone from being a spiritual pariah to one of the greatest gods of the Living.  Five Days Darkness fought during Ragnarok alongside Sol Invictus and Malfeas, but couldn't stem the tide of the damned.  It was he that argued that Malfeas and Sol Invictus should've made a fighting retreat to join humanity, and they ignored him; the wisdom of his argument is still under considerable debate.  Five Days Darkness returned to the Last Refuge just as they died and provided one of the first infusions to White Arcing Lightning's Essence, giving her the juice necessary to launch the ship.

Five Days Darkness became the Admiral of the Fleet soon after, when he personally led to the kill-team to deal with the corrupted Luna during the Destruction of the Dead Moon.  With Sol Invictus' death, he gained a measure of the god's power and he used the last vestiges of it to blast the Dead Moon to pieces while being protected by the other Pre-Exodites.  This has unfortunately left him wounded and drained of Essence, making his personal contributions to battle rare.  His intellect was still good enough to direct the battle of Stone Place, and he oversaw the creation of the first of the Living's fleet.

After the Enterprise's construction he moved to live there full time for reasons of his own.  His personal life remains a mystery.

Alan Billings

Current status: Wing commander, Ares-class.  Sticks to his small list of friends and some of his family in the upperdecks, making him a very rare breed of pilot- a circumspect one.

Alan Billings was born to a well-established political family that rose to prominence on the Last Refuge.  He spent the first half of the exodus following their orders to advance the family name before an unspecified event caused him to break off and volunteer for service.  His name was sufficient to get him to the top of the psych eval list and he passed with flying colors.  Though he doesn't have the best reflexes, his skills were judged sufficient enough to earn him a sortie.  He survived his first sortie and bought his own Ares-class bomber with his part of the family inheritance, where he has served with distinction ever since.

He currently commands Alpha Wing of the General Defense Force, Bomber Division.  While his piloting itself is subpar, his command skills and tactical vision have made up for this discrepancy.

Current status: Wing commander, Icarus-class.  One of the lesser rock stars of the Pilots.  Well-known socialite.  Involved in Serenity's propaganda efforts.

Trudy Penlan was born lucky.  She lucked into dating a member of Jess Maraud's ground crew; she lucked into a software glitch on the pilot testing program, giving her the beyond-perfect score of 105/100; she has lucked through her first sortie.  Though Trudy's skated through life on luck, that's not to say she doesn't have the skill to back it up.  Incisive and driven, she is quick to take whatever advantage she can gain to get ahead- both on and off the battlefield.

She currently commands Alpha Wing of the General Defense Force, Superiority Division.  Her fighter, the Ace of Spades, is easily recognizable on the battlefield with her custom modifications to the chassis.  Her squadmates consider her a living good luck charm and will follow her to the ends of the universe, certain that they'll benefit from association.  They have- a TV show has been created, called "Deal Me In, Tales of Alpha Wing", mostly starring her pilots.

Current status: Favored artisan of the Deathlords.  Works hand in hand with her creator Abyssal Yama to create new weapons to terrify the living.  Rarely seen on the battlefield.  One-of-a-kind artificially created Exalt.

Project Thanatos was created by Yama back before Ragnarok as part one of his master plan to subvert Earth with strange technology.  She was given an innocent, childlike personality so that Yama could properly break her enough for her to use Abyssal techniques.  Daniel and the Lunar Sylvia McMurray rescued her from Nirvana's secret base, then put her in the care of Autochthon's worshipers, the Amish of Pennsylvania.  Just before Ragnarok, Agent Orange baited Lucifer into chasing her in California while Yama personally reclaimed Project Thanatos from the Amish.  Since then she has been properly reprogrammed for her original function and has created some of the ships and weapons the Abyssals use to chase the Living.

Current status: Newest Exalt of the Living Fleet.  Formerly Gyrfalcon-3, survived the mortal massacre during the Raid on the Buchenwald.  Exalted on the Enterprise's hangar deck.

Pak Nari is the daughter of one of the few North Koreans to escape to the Last Refuge.  Her parents didn't last long after their escape, taking their lives due to the stress of change (and the loss of their beloved leader).  She was then taken in by distant cousins working as middle-class citizens of the upper decks.  Nari was quickly drawn to the glitz and glamour of the pilots and joined the hanger crews of the interceptors, where she picked up a few tricks from fraternizing with the pilots.  Eventually she took the flight simulator, and tested well enough to be given a ship and tried in battle.  Her talents attracted the attention of Chupacabra, who requested her transfer to Gyrfalcon Squadron of Alpha Wing of the GDF Interceptor Division.  Unfortunately, her first battle was the Raid on the Buchenwald, which resulted in the deaths of all the other interceptors except for her and Chupacabra.  Under the guidance of the more experienced Exalts she managed to escape to the Enterprise, where she promptly underwent her Lunar exaltation.  Then she dove back into the fight with her new interceptor, the Janggunjeon.

Brahe

Appearance: Was once fat, now wiry-thin; the evidence can be seen if you know where to look.  Graying hair, especially around temples and back of head.  Dark brown eyes.  Exudes dangerous aura.

Current status: Unknown, professional layabout

Brahe was originally a highly decorated member of the Mossad.  Unknown circumstances led to his dishonorable dismissal from the spy agency and he left for America.  There he became the criminal ruler of Atlantic City, where he held court over the material and the spiritual.  His power was shored up by the Teodozjia of Cecelyne.  His criminal empire came crashing down when two Exalts, Clare and Kyle, disrespected him in his own court and managed to get away with it.  He Exalted as the first modern Infernal soon afterwards.  In an attempt to get his career back on track he summoned a kaiju to destroy downtown Compton, but this was foiled by Lucifer, Kyle, and White Arcing Lightning.

Brahe went into hiding after his defeat, where he spent the next couple of months trying to find some sort of direction in his life.  This direction became survival- the Neverborn had come.  Despite their differences, he worked alongside Lucifer for months, sniping away potential threats to buy Lucifer time and energy.  He was one of the last to board the Last Refuge, preceding Lyla and Lucifer in the Last Battle of Seoul.

Since then he has done little work on the Last Refuge, and has been spotted only rarely.  He answers to few and doesn't seem to give a whit about anything that goes around him.  Most people who know him dislike and distrust the Infernal, convinced that any day now he'll betray them for his own interests.

Battles

Current status: Last Refuge Command, Chosen of Battles, Admiral of Paladin Force

Battles was born and raised to fill his position- to the point that if he had a name before his Exaltation, he no longer remembers it.  The sidereal is a master of tactics, training, and martial skill; he fought alongside Lucifer during the Exodus and masterminded many of the holding actions of Ragnarok.  He was the one who developed the master strategy that led to Five Days Darkness's victory at Stone Place.  In the time since, he has taken command of Paladin Force, a small cadre of Mercury-class transports that have been refitted with massive guns and not much else.  These Sunfire-variant transports debuted at the Raid on the Buchenwald.

Off the battlefield, Battles has perhaps the oldest Exaltation in the Living Fleet.  He is a fount of knowledge and experience, and is happy to help his friends and allies in any way he can.  Though he may not be as popular as the Red Queen or have the raw might of other Exalts, he is hands-down the most universally respected member of the Living.  He is often the first mentor for any new Exalt.
