The Forest Primeval

In reply to Boris Underhill (msg # 36):

"I'll take last watch." the muscular barbarian said as he pulled the large hunting knife from his boot. He held the knife in his left hand and the hilt of his two-handed sword in his right and laid back and stretched out against the tree he had been leaning on. "Wake me if there's trouble." he added closing his eyes.

"It's getting late now, innit? Let's doss down for the night.

"If you want last watch, I guess I'll take first then, yeah?"

Boris prepared to sit watch as the sun started to go down, but prayers would come later.

He asked his companions, "now, I think it's possible that something happened to the lovely yet, er, I mean lovely and capable Ondrea, to bring her to this island. Where I come from, women warriors are rare but not unheard of. But it's possible I am no longer in Outremer. We may be on Earth, far across the seas, but that seems even more unlikely. The monks of the Order of the Temple speak of different worlds and planes, of Heaven and Hell, and sometimes one may travel very far indeed by accident, purpose, or by the will of God All-mighty.

"I guess, what I am asking, is are you all natives of this island? Or are you travellers to this realm as well?"

Boris nodded.

"I see. We all seem to be travellers of some sort. And I agree. It is the will of God that we are here, and together.

"We are not quite sure where "here" is. Does this land have a name? Do the lands you come from have names, or at least names you know? I am from the land Outremer. It is separated from Earth and the Holy Land by vast uncrossable oceans, at least according to the monks of the Temple."

Sometimes warriors travelled a lot and therefore knew where they came from, and Stoney seemed to be educated and might therefore also know something about where he was from.

"I was born and raised in a place called Phlan. I was swinging the smithy hammer ever since I could see over the forge." Larz commented. "My father's people come from the barren wastelands of Northern Mountains known as the Stafangr Peaks in Old Norse, or the Fangs of the Dragon in common tongue."

"I grew bored with staying in one place and set off from home to adventure and make my fortune." he added shaking his head. "Now I'm on this gods forsaken island with no way off." he snickered to himself. "Could be better, could be worse." he said shrugging his large shoulders, before closing his eyes again..

"My apologies, friend, for keeping you up. I shall only be a moment.

"So nothing odd occurred when you came here? You are here on purpose, you've heard of this place before? And does this island have a name?"

"Didn't say nothing odd happened."Larz replied cracking his eyes open again.

"I took a job as ships Captain's personal body guard. Everything went well for a week or so at sea. Then one night while I am standing guard outside the Captain's quarters a strange fog rolled in. Unknown to me almost the entire crew including the Captain vanished that night without a trace." Larz continued.

"I managed to find a couple of other people still there and alive and we searched the entire ship.5 of us was all that were left aboard. We were adrift in fog so thick we couldn't see 3ft in from of you. We decided to hold up in the Captain's room and wait until morning."

"During the night those winged demons tried to attack and carry us away, but we fought them off." Larz said looking around the camp. " "After a while we'd pretty much given up that we were all gone, when we suddenly found our ship bumping against a dock."

"That's where we found old Stoney here. Passed out on the dock." he said smiling at his friend. "We walked blindly into the fog and found the town and Inn. When we woke next morning the fog was gone, and here we are..."

"Like I said, I have no idea where "here" is. I know I'm on an island, and I know these people needed my help."

It's closing in on midnight when Boris quietly slides over to Stoney and rouses him for his watch.  Boris immediately lays down where Stoney had been sleeping...no sense in letting a perfectly warmed spot go to waste, and very quickly found his eyes growing heavy.  Stoney found himself a comfortable spot not too far from the small fire and propped himself up so as not to return to slumber.

Slowly Stoney rubs his eyes, as to make sure he is not dreaming.
Not that close to any of the party, he grabs a piece of debris from the ground, and his hammer, that he next to him.
Quietly as possible he tosses the debris at Boris, to wake him, since he is probably still awake.

08:40, Today: Stoney Applesmith rolled 18 using 1d20.  to wake up Boris.

After a second he leaps to his feet and charges towards the beast.
"WAKE UP!! THERE IS AN UNHOLY SNAKE THING!"
Charging forth, if he catches the beast he will take a big swing.

Hit AC 7??  If hit 5 damage
08:41, Today: Stoney Applesmith rolled 11 using 1d20.  attack with hammer.

The abomination before you resembles a bleached-white skeleton of a giant snake, topped by a fanged human skull with constantly whirling, milk-white eyes. While only a portion of its body is upright, the creature could easily be 12' long or more.  The monstrosity stares through you, keeping a constant motion, moving with a macabre grace.

Ondreas' hammer connects squarely with the creature, shattering several of it's rib(?) bones, yet it never ceases its constant swaying.

OOC: I need saving throws vs. spells please

Pausing in his building of the fire, Boris grabbed the gold cross hanging around his necj and exclaimed, "Christ protect us! What an abomination!" He knew there were fell creatures about, warped by evil and sin. Luckily for him aside from the odd Saracen or fantastic beast his exposure to such creatures was quite low, but he had been harried by some in his travels. But none as Godless and horrifying as this!

The fire was as good as it was going to get. Unlike most wild creatures, the undead probably wouldn't be held at bay by a fire. Boris drew his sword and angled to get in behind the foe where he could strike without getting in the way of Ondrea, Larz and Stoney.

The combined force of each attack utterly obliterates the creature; as it explodes it sends debris and dust into the air.  Briefly, you all shield your eyes but just as the dust starts to settle, you can already make out the shimmering details of another two monstrosities.

OOC: I need another saving throw vs. spells from each
