Chpt 1.5 - Malachite Fortress

The walls turn from bare grey stone to polished black malachite as the elevator creaks and groans. After a minute-long descent down the dark shaft, the wooden floor shudders as it comes to rest, and the chains stop rattling. Above, the shaft rises into darkness. The only exit from this room appears to be an iron-reinforced wooden door set into one wall.

Chpt 1.5 - Malachite Fortress

"The malachite hold"...think Marik. They finally found it. A curious mix of trill and nervousness hit him as he imagine what lies beyond. What the hell could half a dwarf be?

No exit in this room. Only a closed door. This could make a decent defensive position to make a stop and collect their spirits.

"I know time is of the essence, but could we take some time to rest before going on? My blade has dulled from hitting those constructs and needs sharpening..."  He looks down at the panther, who look at him intently. He feel the rumbling of the big cat stomach. "...And Rani will eat me or one of you if I don't feed her something soon...else than hobgoblins I mean"

Chpt 1.5 - Malachite Fortress

Marik nods and go sit in a corner with Rani. Right after sitting, he begin to forage into the bags on Rani's back and take out a few good slices of venison meat he give her. The panther bites into it so quickly she almost bite Marik hand in the process, which the elf retract hastily. While the panther start chewing happily, the elf sit on her back and takes out a visibly used whetstone from one of his pocket. He takes out his blade, a beautiful curved elven sword with a guard sculpted from bone and a dark wood handle with a small, intricately carved piece of silver forming the tip. Carvings looking like curled vines interlacing scripture run along the length of the blade.

The elf start to sharpen the blade with precise, careful movements, muttering something in elven.

Filimena gets up, feeling surprisingly refreshed, in spite of her wounds. In fact... She holds her hands in front of her, flexing her fingers for a while before clenching them into fists, and then motioning with her left hand at some loose pebbles. They move. So it works. Filimena whistles and grins, eyes flashing towards a space somewhere above her head. Much appreciated, she thinks.

"Would you like me to push the button?" she asks the rest of the party, cracking her knuckles and motioning at it from where she's standing, close to the other side of the room.

He look at the button, then Filimena, and nods. He sheathe his sword and get his bow ready.

Marik finds nothing as the space is just a semi-large empty room. It would easily be mistaken for a storage room if not for the lever.

The ground here is worked Malachite, perhaps by dwarven hand if Filimena had to guess. Nothing else catches her eye.

Looking over the door Raszire sees nothing that would indicate it to trapped but he does note that it is good repair and the hinges have been recently oiled.

OOC: Yes Filimena can cast Guidance on herself - the spell has range Touch.

The floors in Jzadirune were fairly dusty, but not so here.

The smoke hand changes color as it move through the air, from white to black to green to yellow and back again and with each shift in color the spectral hand becomes slightly less normal and becoming more tentacle like. At last it grasp the door handle and opens it slowly to reveal the room beyond. A long hall who's ceilings rises to an apex of twenty feet overhead. The floor, walls, and vaulted ceiling are composed of smooth black stone that almost seems to absorb light. Two cylindrical iron cages, each one five feet tall and two feet wide, dangle from the ceiling by iron chains. The base of each cage hangs five feet above the floor. A strange sculpture stands in the middle of the hall between the two cages: a five-foot tall column of roughly hewn gray stone covered with sharp protrusions. Four crystal-tipped appendages jut from the stony mass, each one pointing in a different direction.

Re: Chpt 1.5 - Malachite Fortress

Marik nods and signals Rani to advance forward, a bit puzzled. He remembers seeing some elves using similar spells when he was young for mundane task. The appearance of the "hand" varied for all users, but...never like this. That was...unsettling. And judging by Filimena reaction, he doesn't seem to be the only one thinking something seems...off.

"What...is this?"
mutter the elf to the others, as he enters the dark room with Rani. Marik isn't quite sure what he was expecting from what appeared to be a old mine, but it wasn't walls of black stones designed to absorb light.

Rani slowly advance about ten feet forward, sniffing the air while Marik check the walls, floor, ceiling and the cages for any signs of life, his bow at the ready. His vision dim in such darkness, he tries to concentrate on any source of sounds in the room.

And then there was that scuplture...Was that was passed for art in dwarven circles? No, the stonework of the rooms above definitely showed better craftmanship that this. That was... wierd.

OOC: If Marik or Rani doesn't spot anything, they would stop within ten feet of the sculpture, to the right of the first cage.

OOC: Rani make a ten feet move action back, to go behind Omaron and Raszire. I'll take the attack of opportunity (with AC 17 thanks to Omaron). As a Mounted Combattant, Marik will take the attack instead of Rani.

Still stunned and dizzy, Marik turn on the panther as she jump out the way, and let loose the arrow he had prepared in the vague direction of the statue. Thankfully, even in this state, the arrow easily find it's mark on the large form of this living rock.

OOC: After the move action, Marik fire his bow. Marik rolled 20 (not natural) to hit, and would do 9 points of piercing damage plus 14 poison damage (CON DC 11 for half) t the creature.

As she land some distance behind Omaron, the panther make a confused face at the sight of thorny vines sprouting and curling out of the floor. Growling, she recoil a few times at the sight of new plants emerging from the floor and prepare to jump out of the way again. As Marik regain his senses, he see the large statue arm slamming hard into the dwarf chest. He see his arrow firmly stuck into the thing chest. Spider poison doesn't seem to affect it in any matter.

As the elf considers his options, the west door slam open to reveal a new figure entering. A BIG figure with a horrible smell...Actually, Marik has trouble determining if the view of that massive falchion is worse than the smell that comes with it.

Marik curses. All right, changes of plans! He fire his bow at the newcomer, really hoping spider poison will cut him the envy to eat.

OOC: Marik rolled 22 to attack with the bow, and would do 8 points of piercing damage, and 8 points of poison damage (COn DC 11 for half).

OOC: Sorry, I made a mistake on the dice roller. I first tought I could roll with advantage thanks to Natural Explorer (which allow to do that on enemies that haven't yet acted) but as I second-checked it's only on the first turn of combat. Thankfully, the first result gave 22.

Just as he let loose, Marik hears a loud crack and turn to glance at Omaron and Raszire, fearing the creature managed to land a heavy blow on one of them. Instead, he see the steel mace break the stone in piece. He take a breath of relief and rejoice.

Before he can say anything, he hears a second, loud noise. The ogre roars in pain, the arrow stuck deep near the jugular. Already the creature movement seems a bit more erratic and wobbly.

"It's taking hold!" say the elf, pointing the ogre. "Aim for the knees!"

Re: Chpt 1.5 - Malachite Fortress

Marik cringe as he hears the massive blade slamming into Omaron shield and the Dawi, still standing, grunting in pain. He doubt he or Rani would have survived that. Normally, he'd be content to have others take blows in his place, but this time feels different. The dwarf wasn't just struck by chance, he volontarily stepped up to meet the ogre and taunted the creature into attacking him to protect the rest of them. Given his size and the size of the room, Rani and him wouldn't have much room to escape if that thing came in close combat.

That...That deserve respect. The Dwarf may be saving their lives at the moment.

"Come on...eat this and stay down" mutter Marik for himself as he draw another of his few remaining arrows and draw his bow once more, aiming for the neck. The arrow flies and hit the creature throat, not too far from the other.

OOC: Marik rolled 18 for attacking, does 9 point of piercing damage and 10 points of poison damage if he fails his save.

The panther roars and start to run, accelerating at each step, with fury in her eyes. Her growl goes louder and louder as she begin sprinting the distance separating her from the ogre. As she run, the elf put his bow on his back, drawing his sword and shield.

As they close the distance, the panther growl turn into a roar as she LEAP straight toward the ogre face, claws ready and teeth bare.

"WAWAHRRRRRRR"

The big cat jump with all her weight on the ogre torso, slashing his chest with her claws. She bites into the air furiously, missing the ogre face by a inch. The attack doesn't appear to do much damage to the ogre thick hide, but makes the ogre stagger off-balance for a moment from the force of the impact.

"Now! Strike him down!" shout Marik as the panther land.

Marik received the potion. He hold it to the light, recognizing a red liquid very similar to the ones he gave to Omaron. He is about to thank Raszire before seeing the dragonborn already well ahead.

[Language unknown: "Aiwa wiofnaar tic, iscaanno re Son."] he mutter.

Marik down the potion. He expect it to taste herbal. It does, to a extent. He taste rosemary... sage...something like beets. This taste nothing like the medicinal herbs he would use. Those are just herbs for taste. He is about to call it a fake when the healing effect suddenly take hold and he feels a burst of energy radiating though his body. The pain in his ribs suddenly appear far more distant, while the weariness of the day vanishes away like darkness in the sun.

Feeling much better, Marik take a quick look into the vial. He certainly don't recall rosemary and sage having that power. What the hell makes that potion so potent? Then, taking a longer look, he see something in the remaining drops of liquid. Something like little hints of gold...minuscule pearls of light almost invisible in the red liquid.

The herbs are just to make it taste something, he think. The real power is elsewhere. His thought drifts for a moment to what Raszire said about St.Fenwyn and her divine powers.

Rani growls, reminding him of the task at hand. He nods and signals her to follow Raszire.

Re: Chpt 1.5 - Malachite Fortress

Cross the room is tough as the smell and filth are disturbing. As Omaron reaches the chest he finds it locked but recalls Marik did pull a set of keys off the ogre's body.

Moving through the hall, the group finds no traps or secret doors to speak of, just a simple southern turn which comes to a dead end some twenty feet later.

"I will go look out for him." says Marik, from the read of the line. He make Rani turn and run back along the hall. He make Rani push the wall in a  similar way to what Filimena just did.

OOC: I suppose there should also be a switch to open to get back on the other side. I'll edit if I'm wrong.

Once the door is opened, the stench become all the more present and he grimace, pulling his scarf up to his nose. As Rani approach the room smelling so foul, Marik fear to know where Omaron has gone. Once they pass the opened door and he see the dwarf looking up a chest buried in dung, Marik almost gag.

"Omaron? What the hell are you doing?"

Marik (who followed Omaron and the others) look around the room and guide Rani toward the weapon rack. Sheating his blade, he lift up a spear, test its weight and balance. Not bad...Not bad at all. The point look a little rusty, but look like it could still punch through a suit of armor with the right force. Perfect should he decide to charge or poke another ogre eyes from a distance...

He takes two of the spears and strap them to Rani's saddle, putting them in a angle upward so that the points don't injure Rani if she walk or turn.

He then look at the chain shirts, then Rani, then the chain shirts again...

He guide Rani closer and lean forward to grab one of the chain shirt. The panther turn her large head to look at the elf, waiting commands.

[Language unknown: "Wete me, I iore lape n illost manivereaart."] He says, as if the cat was waiting a response. He extend the chain mail and put it on top of Rani neck, letting the mail drop a bit on her neck and shoulders.

Yes, that could do. It would need a few days of work...maybe even a week or more but he could probably rework that mail to make a makeshift collar covering Rani's neck and shoulders. Could be useful for those time where battle appear inevitable.

OOC: Marik doesn't know a lot about dwarven metallurgy but can he tell if it's some material other than iron? Or if the metal has been infused with magic?

OOC: Alrighty! :P Just wanted to see if magical items had some obvious properties in Collabris, like being in much better condition than normal weapons, having runes glowing or a faint aura about them. In my home group, I usually let my players know there is something different about items touched by the supernatural, but they need Identify or Detect Magic to specify which kind of enchantment. Don't worry though, I'm perfectly fine with magical things being unremarkable from mundane items to the untrained eye in Collabris if that's the case. It gives a additional level of surprise :D

Satisfied by what he see, Marik take the two chain shirt and stuff them in Rani's bag. While Raszire and Filimena team up to inspect the walls, he takes a moment to survey the rest of the items, see if any shows distinctives markings like the presence of runes or a level of condition that would be abnormal for weapons and armor of that age. He feels pretty confident he could tell if a weapon or piece of armor appeared to be forged with a level of care and craftmanship superior to what would be given to common soldiers.

OOC: Assuming y'all are going in
An oppressive warmth assaults the group as the door opens.  The room beyond the door is unpleasantly hot and filled with the stench of hot metal and ash.  A blazing forge dominates the east wall, flanked by malachite caryatids depicting dwarven metalsmiths.  In front of the hearth rests a ten-foot-wide, twenty-foot-long slab of gray stone surmounted by two black anvils.  Barrels of water and metalsmithing tools rest nearby.  Two cylindrical iron cages, each one five foot tall and two feet wide, dangle from the ceiling by iron chains.  The bottoms of the cages hang five feet above the floor, and the giant fire beetles locked within them shed a lurid orange glow.  Atop the slab, a female dwarf and three goblins hammer away at a pair of newly forged javelins while two halflings  sit on the floor nearby, linking together tiny chains for what will ultimately become a suit of armor.  The dwarf and halflings have manacles binding their ankles.

Re: Chpt 1.5 - Malachite Fortress

[Language unknown: "LE! conne st tr .... Eefowe?"] curses the elf, as another arrow fly by and graze his forehead, leaving a red line of blood spilling out of the wound. Marik peek out the head to look at the battlefied, see a large pool of blood coming out of a goblin on the floor and two other screaming and writhing as the large flames of the heart quickly consume their flesh.

"Don't think of it. Don't think of it, Don't..." he repeat to himself as he think of what to do, sweating in fear. He was about to tell Rani to charge the goblins, but since they don't appear to be a problem, better to focus on the larger threats. He heard one groaning on pain on the far back. Maybe he could take him down.

He interrupt his movement, put down the sword and shield and take back his bow. He see one hobgoblin on the far back. He aim, distracted by the blood dripping over his left eye and shot quickly, before ducking back behind the table. He tries to make himself even smaller this time. He don't think his shot find it's mark.

OOC: Marik rolled 15 for his shot. In the unlikely event these hobgobbos would be less armored than the rest, the shot would do 6 piercing damage and 11 poison.

Seeing her goblin splattered against the ground Filimena grins evilly and steps sideways across the room to send another Eldritch Blast hurtling towards the same hobgoblin she sees the elf aiming his bow at, cursing as it a stray spark from the fire lands on her nose and causes her to miss by an embarrassingly wide margin.

10:23, Today: Filimena the Gentle rolled 9,6 using d20+6,d10+4, rerolling ones with rolls of 3,{1}2.  Eldritch blast w/ Agonising Blast.

Omaron skirts the melee taking place before him, staying out of the reach of both hobgoblins. He rushes forward, menacing the hobgoblin archers with his axe. As he moves into the second portion of the forge, the spectral thorn totem disappears from its first position and pops up just south of the hand to hand fight.

OOC:
Move and Dash to threaten the archers. I can just barely make it. Bonus action to move and refresh the totem.

Re: Chpt 1.5 - Malachite Fortress

Marik hears a groan. The dragonborn just took a nasty hit and is about to fall. This is not looking good. The creatures will probably attack him or the hostages now. He need to take the initative and engage them on his own terms.

[Language unknown: "Be na noho. Ee atma i niles intortrom poaisswh waulpome."] He see Omaron has put up another of his totem-like spell a little further.

[Language unknown: "Nese la, Tr. Ou er ngad endiet men."]. The panther roars and climb on the gray stone table, running to the other side. While passing by, Marik fire an arrow on the hobgoblin who injured Raszire. The projectile get past the chain mail and get firmly stuck in the creature shoulder.

The panther leap to cross the rest of the distance and land behind the hobgoblins, into Omaron thorn totem influence. He quickly transition from his bow to his sword and shield, slamming the blade on the wooden shield to draw the creatures attention. Hopefully, the sight of a giant roaring cat and a angry elf will make them forget about the little halfling in the corner and the hostages.

OOC: Marik rolled 22 for a attack with his bow. Does 6 piercing damage and 5 poison damage (CON save DC 11 for Half).

OOC: Marik use a bonus action to transition from his bow to sword and board, hopefully bringing his AC to 19 with Omaron totem.

EDIT: Sorry, got Omaron powers mixed up. AC will be 18 unless Omaron can move inside the thorn totem circle.

As he speaks, an etheral, mist-like rain seems to fall in a short distance around him. Those that stand within the mist feel refreshed, their spirits boosted and their pains seem lessened. "The ambush room would be a fairly decent position to rest up, if we have the time to do so before the auction ends. This is probably the last chance to rescue those who have been taken."
