Filimena glances over at the young man from where she is standing at the door. “You were kidnapped,” she begins. ”By gangsters, who seemed to have mistaken you for somebody else. By any chance were you abandoned as a child? Left at a doorstep? Otherwise mysterious origin? Possibility of a long lost twin?” As she is saying this, she pulls open the door.

FIlimena narrows her eyes, not quite satisfied with Disanz' reply. "And you never found this suspicious at all?" she asks. She looks to the rest of the party, and seems to change her mind about something. Perhaps this is a distraction. The larger question pertains to the mindflayer apparently lurking under the city. To learn more about that, perhaps they need interview Floon. She turns to him and tilts her head curiously.

Floon steps nearer to Filimena and Disa, "It is something that Renaer and I have both spoke of - though we don't wish to upset the nobles and leaders of Titan's Gate - so we simply believe we have shared distant family member or just happen to be similarly handsome."

Filimena raises a single eyebrow. "Fair enough," she says, after a pause. "In any case, my... colleagues and I went to a bit of trouble to retrieve you from down in the sewers. We encountered some... interesting persons along the way. I don't suppose you remember much of what happened to you down there?"

Floon nods, "You mean the ..." then the young man puts his hand in front of his mouth and wiggles his fingers. After a moment, with a slight shake of his head Floon continues. "That guy didn't talk to me much, it was mostly the orc, Ephrem."

[Private to Marik; Weasel: He lightly touches a scar which has been healed magically.] Floon glance out the window for an instant before continuing. "They wanted to know about Renaer's father, but aside from the man's name I've never met Lord Buchanan. It was all about Lord Buchanan's down fall, his ... taking the city's money."

Filimena's eye brow raises just a little bit higher. She glances sideways at her companions to see if mention of Lord Buchanan's misfeasance inspires any reactions.

"What kinds of questions did they ask?" she continues. "Did you get the sense they wanted to learn something specific?"

Marik has his eyes fixated on a specific point on Floon body, as if he was trying to remember something...


[Private to DM5: OOC: I gather that it's not a open wound that we've seen healed by the acolytes of St-Cuthbert but something we didn't noticed before, am I right? Where is that scar located?]

Floon sighs, obviously not thrilled at Filimena's  questions. "They wanted to know where Lord Buchanan was, his friends, houses, and the like. I didn't know so the orc kept ... kept ..." the man pauses for a second, shaking his head as though to drive away something,

"Kept burning me, despite my not knowing anything of use. Was like he was enjoying it"

Filimena winces slightly, then turns and steps to the side of Floon, beginning to pace around him slowly and deliberately, as if pondering deeply what he has said, in fact trying to hide the wave of nausea that has just passed over her. Burned soul, she thinks. Hardened into steel. What could that possibly mean?. She looks to the rest of the party, motioning with her chin to invite comments.

OOC: Rolled an insight check to see if Filimena can tell whether Floon is hiding anything, but assume a 9 isn’t enough.
Also rolled a perception check to see if there are any burn marks on Floon’s body, but went back and checked and realised we were already told he had burn marks on his chest.

08:16, Today: Filimena the Gentle rolled 9 using 1d20+3, rerolling ones with rolls of 6.  Insight.

"Wait" says Marik, eyes still fixated on Floon. He doesn't know why, but something seems off. "Scars...traces of magic...maybe examine...closely"

OOC: Marik rolled 8 for a Insight check to check is Floon looked thrutful after he said that he didn't know anything of use while tortured.

 Floon's eyes widen in horror at the suggestion that he has some sort of lingering magic upon his person. "AH!!! NO no no no no no!" he explains as he rushes out of the room to find a someone to cleanse him of whatever Marik believes to be upon him.

 OOC: Huh? I'm confused at where you're going here ... but sure why not let's scare poor Floon

Raszire glances between Marik and Filimena and back.

"Maybe it's just me,..." he says, "...but this all seems too convenient. I feel like there's more to this story that we're not getting."

Perplexed, he just shakes his head with a bit of a snort.

"So, what now? Where does the path lead us from here?"

The priestess returns shortly after Floon flee the room, "Your bedside manners haven't improved Master Marik. Curate Toumash, I have little doubt that there is more to Master Blagmaar and Buchanan's mistaken identity and the web you find yourselves in with the thugs of the Eyes, but I can advise little save to be on your guard as your group has surely put a target on its back. While many respect you Finders of Jzadirune, I've been told that a squabble occurred that allowed the Eyes eliminate or absorb all of The Last Laugh - who you all had a run in with and disrupted their activities while in Jzadirune and below."

Jenya nods to herself as though a thought occurs to her midsentance, "Mighty enemies but you have allies as well. We with the Church of Saint Cuthbert among them."

Filimena crosses her arms and grimaces. "So what do we do?" she asks, looking around. "Go back down into the sewers? See what's in that room? Get ourselves even more caught up in this... gang war? I want to know what that illithid was doing down there."

To give the group space to discuss things, Jenya and Disanz leave the room.

"I want... know too" respond the elf suddenly, as he appear to snap out of some kind of trance. "Gang war...problem, but nothing compared to Illithid menace. Need to research...how destroy the abomination. Wait...Where's the mage? Was right there....Did turn invisible?" ask the elf, searching Disanz with the eyes.

"I feel like the Illithid is a greater threat, even beyond the gang war. I do believe that it should be dealt with, but we need to go in better prepared than we were last time. How do we protect ourselves from his mind-warping capabilities?"

Raszire scratches his head and grimaces thinking back to the mind-flaying he and his friends endured.

"Somebody needs to handle this fiend before it's too late."

Filimena looks back at forth between her two companions. "Is there somebody in the city we could talk to who might know more about such creatures?" she asks, inclining her head more to Raszire, as she doesn't reckon Marik would know many people in the city. It occurs to her that her patron did seem to have an interest in the matter. What is it they said? Tyrants, slavers, voyagers, rulers of a foreign empire.

"Maybe could ask mage...seems well traveled" respond the elf, still looking around to see if he can spot him. He whisper something to the big cat near him, which yawn loudly and get up, sniffing the air before going in the direction where Disanz went.


OOC: Marik asked Rani to seek the dwarf who was there a moment ago and signal him to come. Nicely...

The big cat is confused at the request and head out into the church. Cries of alarm can be heard as she prowls the building.

"Marki, no need to send Rani to search for Disanz, I believe he mentioned something about waiting for us at The Scoundrel and Dirk to discuss payment over food and drink. While we travel, I'll search my memories and try and recall if I've run across someone that can aid us with dealing with the Illithid menace."

Raszire is seemingly distracted while trying to figure out if he knows anyone that can assist or educate the team as he draws a blank. His mind is clouded with anxiety and self-doubt.

Filimena shrugs and begins to pick up her things. "Shall we?" she says, gesturing towards the door, then walking towards it.
