Re: OOC CHAT 2: Not Over You
The official, canon explanation for the Myriad-Taeltresin connection is that Myriad is a bit of accreted detritus from Yggdrasil that was orbitting Taeltresin that got large enough to spark Theosynthesis. It only exists along the 7th/8th/9th dimensional matrix, but it's the closest thing that Taeltresin has to a bonafide moon.
A quick rundown of some metaphsyics:
- the 0th/1st/2nd dimensional matrix, or plane in common parlance, is the theoretical foundation; it's a two-dimensional space populated entirely by a lattice of vibrating strings.
- the 1st/2nd/3rd matrix is subreality, or the plane of platonic forms. The rules of reality are written here; it's why gods advance in discrete ranks, for example, and where souls, divinity, and such come from. The Blight poisoned the tree by corrupting this plane.
- the 2nd/3rd/4th plane is reality.
- the 3rd/4th/5th plane is metareality, or the inner/lesser astral plane, or the inbetween, take your pick. It's a transitional plane that contextualizes the varying timelines of realms to the greater continuity. This is where magic comes from, through the mechanic of arcane sublimation - a big movement in metareality can translate to smaller movement in reality if you have the knack and training to amplify your will. Magic is basically a tool that allows your will to gain mechanical advantage over an aspect of reality - perception itself already being something that demonstrably alters reality. All demiplanes and all realms exist within the context of the metareal, which is how gods create portals from one to the next, albeit with a degree of imprecision.
- the 4th/5th/6th plane aka the outer/greater astral regulates the spatial alignment of the Tree as a whole, specifically in relation to the Void and to itself - this where the Tree organizes which places advances at what rates (what is above and below) as well as what is central and what is peripheral. Navigating this requires a Lesser Gate.
- the 5th/6th/7th plane is the 'place betwixt' or shadow plane, a no-man's land of emptiness that is neither Tree nor Void. Note that Time, the 4th dimension, ceases to figure into things - making this plane timeless. Using time magic actually pulls you through here, creating a reflection of a potential reality within the emptiness - making it a mesh of alternate happenings, memories, and shadow-things. It's coterminous with reality.
- 6th/7th/8th plane is the Chaos Plane, the world of possibility and part of the very edge between Tree and Void. If the Tree was a supermassive black hole, which it kind of is (the 0th dimension being the singularity, and technically all of reality being projected from that singularity . . . . ) then this would be the event horizon, filled with superhot entropic discharge. The Mad are so juiced up and cause so much damage because they are projecting from here and carrying that entropy with them.
- the rest of planes are party to the unique physics of the void and aren't readily comprehensible.
