The engineer looks down at the half-empty drink in his hand. "Well...personally, I really only drink for taste; not for the alcohol...not that I'd touch synthehol with a 3 meter pole.

"I've been drunk before, but I don't really enjoy it. I like to remain in control of my faculties -- you do fewer stupid things that way," he adds with a grin.

Mac raised an eyebrow at the implicit chastisement, but otherwise ignored it. People from the older Federation worlds had a tendency to think that they alone dictated the definitions of society, but so be it. So did the Danteri.

In reply to Relic GM (msg # 38):

As the impromptu party goes on, more and more people finish their drinks and food and leave. Gian notices that it is now 1830 and that he has about a half hour to clean up and change for his drink with Lieutenant Adler.

[OOC - I'd like to wrap the evening up tomorrow and start on the trip to Dyson Base on Monday.]

Gian excuses himself from the gathering, returning to his quarters for a change to civilian clothes and a dab of a little smell good. He's back in the O-Club with five minutes to spare; he finds a place to sit and looks for Cynthia.

The Caitian had arrived at the party and immediately did his best to blend into the background. He had never been quite comfortable with the human idea of a 'party'. He didn't quite consider it a waste of time, but he'd much rather be investigating Dyson already.

Argent is just about to leave when Gian comes back in, wearing civilian clothes. Shortly afterward, the staff Lieutenant enters and joins him.

Lieutenant (junior grade) Cynthia Adler arrives at about 2 minutes after 1900 hours, looking fresh and dressed in a light green summer dress. She looks around and, spotting Gian, heads over. "Hi, there. Been waiting long?"

Cassy nods her thanks to Gian for his 'explanation' of alcohol and will continue to socialise as the gathering fades.  As folk start leaving, Cassy will gesture to Shione before heading off....

Eventually drinking alone at the table just invited looks. He grabbed a bottle and headed to his room softly humming a jaunty tune from the occupation to keep the ghosts at bay.

Argent still didn't quite understand the humans' idea of a party; to him, a party involved science somehow. So he sat there and watched with amusement the antics of the other people at the party, even though he was pretty sure he really didn't understand half of what he observed.

Eventually the party wound down, and people began to leave.

He couldn't help wondering if the party had accomplished what it was supposed to do. At least there hadn't been any fights.

He also wondered what the etiquette was for the last person to leave... he decided to wait and see, even if that meant he'd be the last one to do so.

She sits across from Gian and says, "Sorry I'm late, but I had a few last-minute details to handle at the office. I'll have an Algolian Fizz." She smiles brightly. "Glad you didn't have to wait too long. So, are you exited about your new assignment? How are you getting along with your crewmates?"

"I'll have the Slusho mix," he adds. To her question, Gian replies, "I'm looking forward to it. The crew seems to be a fine bunch, from what I've seen so far. It'll be a different dynamic, though; my two ships were a Nebula and an Olympic. It'll be interesting.

"Have you ever worked a Danube?"

"The Ackerman," he answers. "Good ship, though we spent my entire time aboard trying to work all the bugs out of a refit; nothing like an extended shakedown cruise in the middle of the war.

"The Venture, eh? She saw a lot of action the last couple of years; I remember seeing her name in a bunch of op reports."

She sighs. "Yes, we were in the final battle at Cardassia Prime. That was a messy one. The Venture was command ship for a wing of four Galaxy class ships. We lost Captain Rickover in that battle. But enough about the war - I just want to focus on the future."

She shakes her head as if to dislodge the memories. "The Dyson Sphere is a big deal, now that the war is over. They've been doing a lot of expansion to the mission. You could do worse for an assignment."

"Just the engineering implications alone make it a prime assignment; I'm surprised the Corps of Engineers didn't just take over the whole thing," Gian quips. "The opportunities to improve artificial habitat and starbase construction technology are tremendous."

He pauses when the server returns with their drinks. He takes a sip of his as a grin starts to form on his lips. "Really, there's something for everyone to do there -- engineers, diplomats, spooks, tactical officers -- it's like the Triangle Sector in a shell. All we need is a bunch of shady Orion merchants, and we'd be set."

Another sip, gauging the woman before him. Bucking for command, eh? he thinks. "So, focus on the future; how long are you looking to make your flag aide bones here? Long enough to use it to work a choice assignment -- and do you think a Galaxy is still 'choice,' with Akiras and Sovereigns stealing the spotlight recently?"

She snorts. "The Akiras are only big news because of the War, and the Sovereigns aren't really Explorers and are much smaller than the Galaxy class. I hear big things for a refit of the Galaxys as well - a third nacelle and much better defensive systems. I'd settle for a Sovereign but I'd rather have a Galaxy, hands down."

In reply to Relic GM (msg # 60):

A third...? Preposterous! There's a reason they only produced a few twin-coil nacelle designs.

Gian doesn't let his inner warp-design snob out, in expression or word; he has a goal for the evening, and certainly doesn't need to argue with his date about the obvious design flaws inherent when two warp coils are crammed so close together.

"The Galaxy is one of those designs that deserve their reputation and a chance at longevity, like the Excelsior," he affirms. "I like that you have a favorite."

Sure. Note that the Dice Roller does not take difficulty into accout and interprets a 1 on the Drama Die as an automatic critical failure, so click on Record Each Die so I can see the raw die rolls to judge your success/failure.

OOC: 09:09, Today: Gian Seingalt rolled 10 using the Last Unicorn system with 4d6+4 (a dramatic failure) with rolls of {1}, 4, 4, 6.  Gian Charm: Seduction (Presence+Empathy).

Well, that doesn't bode well for the evening...he succeeded, but she developed feelings for him?

Cynthia: "Gian, I think I love you."

Gian: "That's weird."

Cynthia: "Lights. Did you just say 'that's weird'? Don't you love me, too?"
