In transit to Dyson Base
At 0800 hours, the crews are assembled at Launch Bay 34Delta. After a final pre-flight briefing on stellar conditions in the Dobhran Sector and a thorough run-through of the checklists, the Runabouts Cuyahoga and Kitchissippi are cleared for departure.

The tannoy announces, "All hands attention. Space Doors opening. Beware gravitational fluctuations. USS Cuyahoga and USS Kitchissippi cleared for Starbase 21 departure. Godspeed."

The Space Doors glide silently back and the dim flicker of the air barrier field is visible. The Runabouts glide towards the opening and pass through the air barrier. Once through, Starbase Control announces, "Cuyahoga and Kitchissippi, you are clear and free to navigate."

It had been a busy morning.  It wasn't as if Cassy had to pack but there had been much to prepare and she'd been 'overly' meticulous about each task.   It was therefore they she arrived 'on time' (that is to say exactly 15 minutes early) and boarded the USS Cuyahoga to give it one last 'once over' before the rest of the crew arrived.

That done and everything 'ready' in her mind, she settled in the flight officer's seat and began idly tinkering with the ergonomic configuration of her console while she waited for the others to arrive, greeting each in turn.

Then, with the shuttle cleared for departure, she walks her crew through the pre-launch and once ready, keys in their destination before looking to the others, "Everyone ready?"  She smiles as she gauges them in turn.  What were they feeling in that moment?

In reply to Cassiadora (msg # 2):

[OOC - Runabouts are true starships, not shuttles. They have their own NCC registrations and while they may be transported to remote locations by a Galaxy class starship, they are never assigned to one as small craft. This means that this is technically your first starship command.]

As Cassy inputs her console settings, Majel Barrett's voice says, "Settings accepted. Do you wish to specify these settings as default?" The icons on the console shift slightly to your preferred configuration and the chair adjusts to your form.

Little did she know, though, that her engineer had come and gone long before she conducted her inspection. When he ducked into the briefing at precisely 0800 (no need to look too eager), he had already spent the 0500 hour ensuring all engineering systems had been checked and double checked earlier in the morning.

At his engineering control station, Gian looked over his personal LCARS configuration (another thing he installed early this morning) with no small amount of satisfaction that carried over from his evening with Cynthia. It had been a good night, and he was expecting an enjoyable flight. At least the view was good in the cockpit, one Saurian notwithstanding...

Shione had transferred her gear earlier to the ship and had set up her station and interface to suit her
She awaits Lt Anderson's arrival outside the door and waves to Cassy and the Crew of the Cuyahoga  as they arrive.

When Mac arrives she greets him "Good morning Sir.How would you prefer to be addressed.?
Lt Anderson,or Sir or by your name?"

[OOC we'll continue the date with Cynthia in the original thread in tandem to this thread]

Actually, the Saurian isn't in Gian's view, seated as he is in the Ops position beside Cassy. Rai is seated behind him and to his right, while Sosal is behind Cassy and to her right. Gian's view of the stars is completely uninterrupted, and only distorted by the ubiquitous warp streaks.

The flight will take 5 days, but stellar conditions are clear and you're light yhears awar from the Klingon border, so it should be smooth sailing.

[OOC: Well, I was thinking "the view" in general, not necessarily just from the Ops console. :) ]

"Five days essentially on autopilot," Gian muses. "Anybody hungry? I've been working on a twist to my Hollandaise sauce. Eggs Benedict sound good?"

"Yes."  She replies to the console as the adjustments take effect even as she takes in the smugness from Gian behind her.  Well, he deserves to feel smug.  The ship... my ship...  she absently pats the arm rest of her chair, is flying well.  She smiles and makes a small adjustment to the ship's flight.

"No thank you, Lieutenant.  I've already had breakfast."

In reply to Shione (msg # 5):

"It's probably best to stick with Mac or Lt. Anderson. Most people from offworld can't quite stick the tonal gutturals of my clan name, and it's still a little bit of a hot topic since the Danteri occupied the planet for three hundred years without a single grozit'd one of them learning the language properly. And calling your superiors by honorifics? Yeah, that's you got them special treatment if they were captured," a momentary shudder passed through his shoulders before he resumed flight ops.

He took a moment to reset the auxiliary power flows to conserve energy. It wasn't something people from the Federation did by rote much, there was such an excess of power available in almost every single vessel in Starfleet that it was unnecessary, but Mac had grown up flying Xenexian light attack craft and if you didn't conserve energy in one of those when you could you might end up landing with a dead stick and your suit zipped up.

"Speaking of which, Vulcan and Betazoid? Your family dinners sound like they must have been interesting. Do you have a story about that, or am I committing an unforgivable breach of etiquette?"

"It's okay if I am," he said self-deprecatingly. "Half-savage from a barely civilized world in the dark end of nowhere and all that, everyone and their kinsmen seems to agree I've got a foot in it for one reason or another most of the time."
