"So, your... United Federation?... is not a part of the Trade Federation? That's a relief. The Nemoidians are not a... pleasant people." She shudders. "I'm pleased to make your acquaintance, Shione, Argent and Sosal. I see some of your comrades coming down the ladder here. Could you introduce me, please?"

Dahlakino peers down to corridor. "What is this place? What planet are we on? You say we're surrounded by water?" She seems to be suffering from information overload.

Olivaw follows Cassy and the rest of the Away Team. He steps forward. "This is a psionics research facility. You were captured by members of a species called the Finori. This facility was run by them after they captured it from my people, the Kapecki. The Starfleet people will see to your needs. They are explorers and have a base nearby."

In reply to Dahlakino (msg # 514):

She introduces the others including Commander Olivaw,saving Cassy for last
"Dahlakino,this is Lt Cassiadora Dul,She is the Officer in charge of our away team.

Lt Dul with your permission I will escort Dahlakino back to the runabout and give her a chance to sit and gather herself before our trip back to base.

Assuming Mac is still out I can fly the Kitchissippi back myself.Do I have your permission,Ma'am?"

If so she will explain in simple terms about the transporter and once aboard she will provide some refreshments from the replicator and try to make her feel comfortable

"There will be time for you to become familiar with where you are now.You will see a lot on out flight back,so relax. There is a spare chair up front so you will be able to get a look around,I would rather not overwhelm you anymore than you already are.OK?"

Cassy regards Shione coolly and replies, "Yes, Lieutenant Kurasa, please escort her to Dodge City and take the prisoner with you." She turns her back and strides back to the elevator, leaving Argent and Tony with you.

As the elevator door snaps back into place, Olivaw looks at Shione with a pained look. "Prisoner? I think not. I am the representative of a sovereign power who is officially making First Contact and I invoke diplomatic immunity. You will now return my weapon to me." He holds out his hand. "If it will make you feel more secure, Ms. Kurasa..." He looks at the ceiling and says, "Computer, reactivate the Starfleet weapons."

A voice comes from the walls, "Affirmative, Commander. Weapons reactivated."

Your training as a security officer tends to affirm his interpretation of the way things should work, according to both Federation Interstellar Law and Starfleet Regulations.

Dahlakino looks after Cassy with a look of confusion on her face. "This... trans-porter... is perfectly safe. You use it habitually? With no problems?

Olivaw comments, "I'm assuming that Lt. Dul and her crew are going to use the... transport enhancers uplevels? I assure you, they are not needed. Your ship can transport us directly from this level. The computer will neither block the signal, nor will it force a systems shutdown."

Tony looks at Shione and asks, "So, Boss, with Mac laid up and the Boss Dame stalking off, guess you're in charge. Should I call the 'Kitch' and have it do the old Manhattan Transfer? I can drive the flivver pretty good, y'know."

Argent is uncertain of the etymology of 'Manhattan Transfer', but assumes it's some Iotian slang for the transporter. He's equally uncertain of the meaning of the word 'flivver'.

Olivaw takes the weapon and secures it in his holster. "Thank you, Lt. Kurasa. She seems most untrusting. Am I correct in noting that she seems not to like you very much?"

As Dahlakino watches intently, Tony taps his commbadge and says, "Gazzo to Kitchissippi. Beam me and Lt. Merawdr aboard. Energise." He and Argent disappear in a wave of sparkling blue energy accompanied by a high-pitched electronic hum.

Her eyes go wide, and she looks relieved when Argent reappears several seconds later. "What does it feel like?" she asks nervously.

When Argent assures her it's completely safe and painless, she braces herself. "Four to beam up," he announces to Tony and she stiffens as all four are enveloped by the transporter effect.. She and Argent reintegrate first and he guides her off the pad before Shione and Olivaw materialise.

"Wow! Just... wow!", she gasps. "That's incredible! You do that all the time? Why bother with ships at all?" She looks very excited.

Tony is at the CONN and calls back "All, aboard! Moving out. Please have your tickets ready for the conductor," and the ocean below sinks away at great speed.

To Dahlakino :Shione grins happily at her reaction to the transporter."Yes we do,but the range has certain limits though.

If the two of you would follow Argent he will see to your comfort during the flight and will try to answer any questions that you might have,providing they aren't of a sensitive nature,of course" and she winks

Shione will take her station and contact the base regarding their passenger;placing special emphasis on the Kapecki

"As Shione said, you are in a different universe now than the one you are familiar with," Argent explains to Dahlakino as he escorts her to a seat.

"I noticed from the simulation of your ship that you have a different technology than we do. Many of our starships are built in space, so the transporter allows us to... beam up to the ship or back down to the planet. At the present time, we cannot transport from one planet to another, though. So we still need ships."

"We are familiar with parallel universes, but it does not sound like yours is parallel... but completely different. We are not familiar with this Trade Federation, for example."

He guessed from her outfit that she was an engineer, so spoke to her in terms she would understand.

A familiar voice replies, "Outpost Three, Petty Officer second S'Forlann speaking. Go ahead, Kitchissippi." Upon hearing Shione's introductory brief, he continues, "Wait one. Patching you through to Lt. Atek."

A second later, Atek's voice chimes in, "Kitchissippi, Atek. Understand you have a representative of the Kapecki on board. Lt. Dul claims he is a prisoner, but you claim he is here for peace talks. Please reroute to Freeman's Island for formal decision by Commander Samson. Eagles One and Two are being dispatched to escort you. Atek out."

S'Forlann returns to the conversation, "Kitchissippi, we also understand you have a refugee with you. Commander Samson directs that after you have delivered the Kapecki to Freeman's Island that your refugee will be processed here at Dodge, so don't dawdle at the Island. Outpost Three out.

Moments later, two Peregrine class light attack craft drop out of warp and descend into the atmosphere. "Kitchissippi, this is Eagle Flight, Lt. Tate commanding. We'll be escorting you to Freeman's Island. Set course 123 by 456 mark 7, full impulse and maintain. Eagle One out."

Olivaw looks satisfied. "It appears that your superiors are taking you seriously.I'll gladly meet with your Commander Samson," he says when notified of the decision.

In reply to Argent Merawdr (msg # 521):

When Dahlakino is given a beverage from the replicator, she says, "Thank you so much, Argent. Is that a miniature transporter? Such interesting tech you have in your Federation. Now I know you're definitely not with the Trade Federation! We have nothing like this in our galaxy." She looks out the large windows in the aft lounge area and exclaims, "Hey, are those fighters? Are they yours or are we under attack?" upon see the Peregrines flanking the Runabout.

"Well, the replicator does use some of the same transporter technology... the ability reassemble matter into a different form," Argent replies to Dahlakino.

"Many people claim it doesn't taste the same as real food, and they may be right, but I think most folks can't tell the difference."

"Oh, yes, those are ours. I suspect it's more of a courtesy than a real precaution. I doubt if they would stand a chance against Olivaw's capabilities."

She heads back and assures the passenger that the ships are merely an escort."Commander I will be introducing you to Commander Samson,and then departing for the outpost,which we operate out of.
Dahlakino. You will be received there.Any questions?"

When she returns to the cockpit she steps up beside Tony"Lt Gazzo.While I and the other Starfleet crew enjoy your colorful idioms,I would appreciate it if you would use Federation standard language and terminology,when in the presence of anyone else.

Atek replies, "So noted, Lieutenant. Will advise the Security team."

S'Forlann adds, "Roger that, Kitchissippi. She's all yours."

Olivaw looks pensive and says, "I look forward to meeting your Commander Samson. Thank you, Lieutenant. I will mention your consideration to her."

Dahlakino is engaged in conversation with Argent and enjoying a steaming mug of raktajino. She smiles and waves to Shione, then goes back to chatting.

Shortly thereafter, Eagle One contacts the Kitchissippi, "Tate to Kurasa. Were approaching Freeman's Island. It's been a pleasure. Call on us if you need an escort again. Eagle Flight out."

As happened only a few days ago, the Kitchissippi descends intro the cavernous hangar bay. Waiting at the entrance to the complex, Cdr Samson and her XO, LCdr Thoma wait with an honour guard in dress uniforms.


A member of the honour guard blows a boatswain's whistle to pipe Commander Olivaw aboard. The "tooWEEoot" sound echoes in the vast chamber. Olivaw smiles and steps forward to greet Samson. He surrenders his weapon to her, remarking, "At a peace conference, I feel I have no need of a weapon. I thank you for your gracious greeting."

LCdr M'Rel saunters over to Shione and says, "Wow... First day on the job and a Firtst Contact already. By the by, I don't think Dul likes you very much. She's a bit pissed that you overrode her orders to take Olivaw prisoner. Good job, but watch your back. She still thinks you're a Rommie spy." He shakes Argent's hand and says, "Nice to see you again, Argent. Who's the hot babe?"

Tony says, "Dahlakino, meet Commander M'Rel, the Commander Flight Wing or CAG. He and Argie are both from Cait." He puts the back of his hand to his mouth and says in a stage whisper, "Thinks he's God's gift to women, no matter what the species."

M'Rel affects a scowl and mutters, "Takes one to know one, Lieutenant."

Shione smiles at the greeting between the Commanders and waits around just long enough to be certain that neither Samson,nor Thoma wish to have a word.She also arranges for Mac to be offloaded so he can receive the antidote that Olivaw mentioned.

M'Rel grimaces. "She is a grade above you, so if she hears you say that, she could cite you for insubordination. However, I think Dr. Adonidas might be inclined to agree with you. No, she is not your commander—that was only for the duration of the mission and only because Mac got himself put hors de combat. Besides, she's a psycho hose-beast. Once Athena tests and treats him with Commander Olivaw's antidote, he'll be back in command of the Kitchissippi."

[OOC to Shione: I'm retroactively reinstating the plot where Shione and Cassy are half-sisters, since we don't need to deal with the player's refusal to go along with a plot she agreed with. Keep it as it played out, right up to her negative reaction to Dr. Adonidas.]

Dahlakino greets the announcement with enthusiasm. "I've been cooped up in that simulation of my Emerald Star for ages. Argent has been telling me about this DodgeCity..." (she pronounces it all as one word) "...and I'm anxious to get out in the open air again. And have a hot shower."

I am half Vulcan,but there is a sister race to them,similar in appearance,and who not a friend to Starfleet,called the Romulans.

Argent and M'rel are Caitian.Lt Commander Thoma,the blue skinned woman is Andorian,but the majority of people here are Human,with some local and slight racial mutations,such as Lt Dul who is Betazoid.

That is the other half of my racial mix.

So,not to be nosy,but what are you willing to tell me about you?

On the way from Freeman's Island to Outpost Three, Shione gets a chance to talk to Dahlakino. "Me, I'm a Twi'lek from Ryloth in the outer rim territories. I was a Padawan learner, training to become a Jedi until Master Orlock was killed on the orders of Emperor Palpatine by Clonetroopers led by Senator Binks of Naboo. These?" She shrugs as Shione asks about her head tentacles, "They're called lekku, or headtails. Most Twi'leks have just the two, but a small minority has up to four. They're somewhat on an... erogenous zone."

Upon returning to Dodge City, Lieutenant Atek requests to see Shione privately. Argent is detailed to find quarters for Dahlakino and to introduce her to the rest of the crew at Outpost Three, as well as getting her medically cleared.

Atek tells Shione to take a seat and offers her some Tarkalean Tea and Bularian canapés. "I got the replicator pattern from a former aide to Fleet Admiral Nechayev," he reveals. "Try 'em, they're quite good."

He leans back in his chair and steeples his fingers, a Human affectation he picked up while serving on Earth... <When I said I wanted to speak privately, this is what I had in mind. I've been authorised to give you some information. Your birth mother, Mrs. Dul will be contacting you presently and will give you more details. It seems there's quite a bit of which you should be made aware.>

Master Orlock was one of tehe Jedi trained by Master Yoda. Alas, when Palpatine declared himself Emperor and abolished the Old Republec, he instituted a pogrom against the Jedi, starting with Order 66, to assassinate any Jedi who could be found. It's a very long story." She wipes a tear and says, "It's too raw in me to talk about it now."


Atek looks thoughtful. <Some of what I'm about to tell you is classified. Your birth mother and Lt. Dul's mother are indeed the same Melisandra. She and your father, contrary to what you've been told, were not star-crossed lovers, but were part of an experiment initiated by the Vulcan Science Academy to investigate hybridisation between Vulcans and other psionic Humanoids. Since Betazoids and Humans have both been able to crossbreed with other species, and Betazoids  are highly psionic, there was a recruitment drive at the University of Betazed. One of the young women who volunteered and was ultimately accepted was Melisandra. She and Sormok were able to conceive and you were the result. Your mother raised you for five years before the project was cancelled and she had to give you up. You were placed with a poor couple—Gammmazoids, as some bigots call them, without any psionics at all—the Kurasas. Your mother was to sever all ties to you, but she refused and continued to see you without sanction. Sormok abided by the rules and has always refused to have anything to do with you—easier for a Vulcan with their rejection of the 'taint' of emotions. Unfortunately, Dr. Adonidas stumbled on the facts with her genetic scans and Lt. Dul went, as you say, 'nuts' and panicked. That seems to be why she seized upon the whole Romulan spy scenario. She also sent a subspace message to her—and your—mother demanding to know what was going on. Seems that her father Nyle Dul knew some of the details and had asked your mother never to tell Cassiadora, so there's some strife among the family. The Kurasas know nothing about he whole thing, as they were childless and unable to conceive, so they were chosen to raise you for no other reason. They did know that Mrs. Dul was your birth mother and allowed her to meet with you, but that's about the size of it.>

Hebegins aloud, "In the meantime, while all this is being sorted out, Commander Samson has asked me to assign you a task that will take you out of Cassy's range for a couple of days, just to allow things to shake out. The Security Chief agrees, as he both likes and trusts you. Therefore I'm asking you to take temporary command of the Kitchissippi and go to Starbase 21 to get our newest crew member, Lt. Nivran. Shi is a Mirak and is somewhat... unusual, having a rare mutation. Shi is a fully functional hermaphrodite. You and shi have something in common—where you're an engineer cross-trained in security, shi's a security officer who's been train as an engineer and will be the new Tactical Officer on the Thames II under Lt. Sloan, who will be arriving later this month. Until then, Nivran will be filling in as Engineer on the Kitchissippi with you as its commander with a brevet promotion to full Lieutenant, since Mac has resigned his commission."

Atek replies, "Yes, a brevet promotion is temporary, but does not have a specific expiry date. It continues until rescinded or confirmed as a permanent promotion. Yes, it is partially beacuse it will put you on an even footing with Lt. Dul during the upcoming proceedings, but also as you are relatively new in your current rank. Normally, Starfleet prefers a couple of years between promotions. If you do well, it is possible, perhaps even probable, that you will be confirmed as a full Lieutenant permanently. However, Commander Samson would prefer it if you do not have any interaction with Lt. Dul. That's why we're sending you to Starbase 21. You are slated, once this all blows over and/or is resolved, to move with Lts. Merawdyr and Gazzo to work as part of an expanded runabout team with Lts. Sloane, Clare and Nivran on the new USS Thames II, an Atlantic class Runabout, somewhat larger than the Danubes you're used to. Sloan will be the CONN, you'll be the Engineer, Nivran will be at Tactical, and the others will be Sciences. Sloane will be in command, but if you remain a full Lieutenant you'll be his XO as well as the Engineer."
