Oops, as Cassy just reminded me, she wants you (or, I assume Argent) to check out the air-car.

I'd like to have Sosal along, as I can use him as what my friend Dave calls an "exposition fairy", i.e. a way for me to impart background knowledge that the PCs might not think of or, indeed, know.

What would I be rolling against to convince the PC that my code is valid?  Shipboard Systems?  Computers?  With Intelligence?

It's a near-impossible roll. You'd need to roll a 20. That would be a Computers (Hacking/Data Alteration) skill of 6, a 6 on the Drama Die backed up by another 6, and two Courage Points.

If it is near impossible, could I instead make a near impossible roll to 'talk' it into submission since I'd not be one to hack it in a traditional sense?  This is an AI after all and there is precedence for that style of solution?  :-)  I could convince it using Logic/Empathy and maybe Administration - since I'm here to 'take the facility under my wing'? :-)

Just wondering about the new players that were interested in joining
We have 4 active players with Tony likely to rejoin sometime in the future
Sosal and Mac are NPC and Prashanta is MIA

Perhaps we send the Kitchissippi to Dodge and bring it back with the new guys on board?

Nothing new re John

No Offense intended but this cross examination of the computer is about as exciting as watching paint dry

Hoping to post Shione going for a look around to look in all the rooms whose doors we have not yet opened tomorrow

Thought I would post my intent here

I gather that Gian and Cassy find it interesting. Go ahead, take Sosal and perhaps Argent to take a look around the rest of the level. The area immediately 'south' of your original entry is still unexplored, though you do have the map the Computer gave you.

The site had been having trouble with its servers. That's the cause for the downtime with RPoL. There's a thread in the General board about it. Supposedly they were getting it fixed by now.

In reply to Argent Merawdr (msg # 91):

The dice work oddly in the ICON system. Add the number of points you have in the requisite Attribute + Edge, and that's the number of dice you roll. This includes the Drama Die. For instance if you're making a Strength-based roll and you have Fitness 2 Strength +1 you would roll 3 dice. You use the highest number, and if the Drama Die is a 6 you add the highest other die to that 6. Then you add the Skill/Specialisation to that. When using the Dice Roller, select the Last Unicorn option and it will roll the dice for you. Tell it the total number of dice to roll and the skill/specialisation to add. Record the results and post that in your message. Although the Dice Roller rolls properly, it does not interpret the die result correctly, so I need to see the raw numbers as it doesn't take Difficulty Levels into account and always reads a 1 on the Drama Die as a Dramatic Failure.

Thanks. Again. I know I'm just being obtuse about this. On the other hand, I play over a dozen different games, so I sometimes get my rules crossed.

Okay, corrected my post. I think I got it right now.

On the other hand, it doesn't seem like anyone would ever succeed!

And I'm guessing that dice roller automatically treats the first die roll as the Drama Die?

Why don't you configure the dice roller so that it automatically uses the Last Unicorn system as well as record each die?

In reply to Argent Merawdr (msg # 94):

The Dice Roller is pre-configured by the owners of the board. However, it does roll the dice properly, it just doesn't interpret them right. The Drama Die is shown in double brackets.  It's not impossible to succeed at a roll - most tasks have a difficulty level of 7 or less. It's not an immediately intuitive system, but I've been running it for 16 years now with little problem. The average D6 roll is 3.5, with a 1 in 6 chance of a roll averaging 9.5, plus skill level, so as long as the GM assigns reasonable difficulty levels it flows well.

You can customize the Dice Roller for your game.

At the bottom right corner of the Dice Roller box, there is little green text that says Configure the roller.

If you click on that, you can select Last Unicorn for the default, select D6 as the die that it rolls, and check the Record Each Die box.

You can do this for any game that you run. You don't have to select a particular system if you're using something other than what's on their list.

In reply to Argent Merawdr (msg # 96):

You can tweak it in minor ways. As a strictly dice roller, it rolls the dice well. However you cannot control what it does with the resulting numbers. As it is set up, it automatically rules that a 1 on the Drama Die is a failure. This is not so, and cannot be changed. It also does not take into account difficulty levels or target numbers and there is no provision to factor this in. The look-up tables it uses are just plain wrong and are not editable. Thus, it serves to give the raw die-rolls adequately but it is up to the GM to read them and rule on success/failure. Computers are wonderful tools, but they can't do everything...
