Prologue/Backstory
Cecile grew up in rural Washington state, south of Seattle. Her grandparents had left Seattle to get back to nature, her parents had grown up in a low tech environment and liked it, and her siblings preferred this local lifestyle to the big bad city.

Cecile was bored with it all. She had dreamed of becoming a successful singer and overall performer for years, was able to learn all kinds of neat stuff over the 'net, and figured that one day she could make a clean break with her family and set off for the big city. And, one day, she did!

Seattle was more complicated that she had been expecting. It was not so easy to transition from good daughter to big time performer and independent contractor. She had to see to mundane necessities such as food and shelter, which had been provided to her back at home.

She was able to rent a cubicle right away, and she began her search for gigs. Unfortunately, something went wrong, and she had to run from the place on very short notice. Now, she is living as she can, finding free space here and there. If only she could get her big break!

Muri:
Assuming those who did not know each other beforehand first encountered each other when brought together for work by the as of yet unknown NPC, do we want to try and figure out what that first job was as a starting point?

Cecile is not strictly a Shadowrunner, but she could believe that she needed the money to get off the streets!

i) Mr. Johnson (or the Fixer in common) could know of her and some of her skill set.

ii) Our GM, as the Johnson, could give us the particulars of this run-gone-bad so we could start...

Prologue/Backstory
Muri,

As a Merc operating in the Far East, there's a good chance Headcase would have been employed as a deniable asset either for or against Renraku on multiple occasions. Perhaps they crossed paths? Even worked together on a job, with Muri as the salaried virtual handler and Headcase as some of the hired meat? (probably as part of a larger team)

Muri hears about how the merc company went belly-up, and later hears that at least one of the mercs has made their way to Seattle and is available as an independent now. Headcase, on the way to Seattle, also hears about how one of Renraku's former merc handlers is a player in town, and a potential source of a new SIN. The previous connection could be enough to get them together for at least that exchange . . . and maybe more in the future.

Of course, this all depends on exactly in what capacity your character was "with Renraku," so if it just doesn't work, that's fine.

Seems there's a role-playing opportunity here, so if you're game, I'll get us started.

Somewhere in Seattle, 207X, midnight

Headcase hated these parts of town - the human slums. It wasn't the constant smell of piss and rotting garbage. It wasn't how everything was either soaking wet or slightly damp all the time. It wasn't even the constant threat or pickpocketing or outright mugging. Seo-Yeon had grown up with all that. It was that everything was too low and much too narrow for a troll. Nicer, newer spaces were increasingly built with trolls in mind these days, but in these old ghettos, space was at a premium, and humans took up less of it, so they crammed more in. But her contact had been right - the Matrix was surprisingly clear here - hardly any spam, and a good, strong signal to the local grid. No surprise this was where the papermaker wanted her to be. She stood directly under the red and white "DRUGS" sign with the blue pill ARO orbiting it, and double-checked her exact GPS coordinates, verifying they were the ones she was given.

Headcase used her datajack to think out the appropriate text, sending it to the number she'd been given:

<<Muri: I'm here.>>

Prologue/Backstory
To give some context (and because I'm an idiot and didn't do this for the first post in the thread), you got the job you'll be starting with when you were contacted by a woman calling herself Kokoro Ishikawa on behalf of a Mrs. Johnson. She said that her usual team was a no-show, and she needed someone who could break into a high rise apartment complex and scare Mrs. Johnson's husband for her. Security was tighter than usual, presumably because Mrs. Johnson had attempted, or at least threatened, something like this before, but it was nothing a team of shadowrunners couldn't handle. Plus the pay was promised to be good, even if the job was suspiciously simple.

What I want to know is, who did Kokoro contact directly and who spread the word to/assembled the rest of the team? I'll let you all decide both of these.

Re: Prologue/Backstory
Ok. Ishikawa seems Japanese. For what it's worth, Cecile can speak nine languages in addition to English, including Japanese. Of course, that may be irrelevant.

Since Cecile isn't (yet) a Shadowrunner, strictly speaking, her Impersonation and Con nevertheless might have been observed by one of the others and deemed to be versatile for many kinds/types of infiltration. [And, she might come cheap if she were known to be a squatter. :)]

And, OOC, Cecile has lots and lots of things that she can do.

OOC: I still have points free for Contacts. Should two or more of us have the same Fixer, that might be the easiest way for some of us to be drawn into this Run.

OOG: So is Kokoro going to be our team's free fixer contact?

I'll probably set something up with you Retro once I finish my background.

Re: Prologue/Backstory
I figure the best introduction to the official side of Shadowrunning, ie working for an employer, for Firebug will involve following along behind one or more of the awakened Shadowrunners on a mission and helping them out in some way.  If someone wants to volunteer to have an already concluded run with that sort of event happening be part of their recent background we can go that way, if not then Firebug can simply follow them into this run and may or may not reveal her presence until there is something useful she can do.

Re: Prologue/Backstory
ooc: It's always possible to use the "fixer chain" to connect people.  You get a job opportunity but need help, so you ask your fixer if they know anyone.  Of course they do!  So they check thier rolodex and everyone there is dead, out of town, or in jail, so they contact another fixer they know and ask them, who happens to be the fixer for another character, and so on and so forth.

So maybe make the initial contact person for Kokoro whomever has the most connected fixer?

Headcase, Miri never worked for Renraku, she just grew up inside the corporate system.  She was 17 when she left that life, and hadn't had the best track record before then that was the sort that segues into a promising corporate career.  However, given the elaborate efforts required to make fake SINs, she could certainly have been the last link in the delivery chain, so we'll run with that.

Outside of the A level neighborhoods, or the bustle of downtown there were plenty of places in Seattle that had more pockets of dim and darkness than light.  For better or worse the bright DRUGS sign provided one such now that the sun was low enough for the overcast sky to restrict what meager light it was still providing in this gloaming hour.

As the blue AR pill lazily orbited the sign it flickered briefly and then adopted a much more frenetic path and speed as a dozen other pills in a riot of colors and shapes poured from the nearby alley and from the roof above and began chaotically dancing about the AR space around the sign.

Following the last blue triangular med from the alley was a human girl about half of Headcase's height.  Her chunky boots made an unsubtle clonking sound on the pavement, but that hardly mattered as from head to toe a 2d advertisement for the latest wonder drug slid across her person, shattered into a dozen pieces as if refracted through a kaleidoscope.

Marching up to Headcase she gave the older woman a shallow bow and held out a cheap disposable commlink, new in the packaging with both hands.  "Head-san, please take."

Firebug,

That is a good idea for Lerick. He is an astral beacon so noticing his 'magic' would be so much easier, as it were. He would have been finishing up a couple of runs in support of a smuggler who helped him get to Seattle.

Re: Prologue/Backstory
Headcase pulled out her earplugs, the long reverberations of bass in whatever she was listening to tonight audible in the rather muted alleyway. She turns the commlink over a few times, surprised it's still in the package. SINs are virtual, though, aren't they? So it could probably be done without any kind of physical transfer at all. Or could it? This was all new to Seo-yeon - the beginning of a new part of her life, requiring new skills. Her old National SIN was gone - that had been taken care of before she even left country - but getting a new one wasn't supposed to be possible. Everyone new it was, but until now, that sort of thing was the stuff of urban legend. Now, here it was - happening. That, or she was about to be busted for even trying, and end up with a new SIN or an altogether different kind.

"Is, uh, is this everything? Or is there something else I need to do?"

Headcase has a Connections 3 smuggler who got her into Seattle? If not the same smuggler, maybe they two have worked together, part of some kind of network. Or, depending on the timline, maybe Lerick and Headcase arrived in Seattle more or less at the same time and place. Headcase would've come across the Pacific by boat anywhere from 6-12 months ago. How about Lerick?

Lerick (Ears) could have come into town any which way in any time frame. He has built up some contacts in the town, has a girlfriend, and 6-12 months sounds about right.

His smuggler buddy is an international smuggler 'Gigs' Connections 6, so your guy could be part of organization. We could have shared the same container. 'Ears' knows Japanese and English, but his native is Elvin. Have 2 more skills sitting around for Languages, but haven't chosen yet.

Also, decided not to go with Binding and took Counterspelling and a little Banishing and Negotiations 6. If we have a good face with plenty of dice, I can put those skills from Negotiation to Banishing.

Re: Prologue/Backstory
Headcase is fluent in English and Korean, and knows enough Japanese to get by. Maybe they were smuggled together? Same shipping container out of Busan or some such? That would give them plenty of time to get to know each other, and maybe come to an informal agreement that if either gets work, they contact the other. Better two sets of eyes and ears out there than one, yeah? And their skills complement each other, since Ears is all about the astral is Headcase is all about the mundane.

Retro, what sort of hooks do you have?  At the moment I think you've only revealed your rep around town as a versatile vehicle operator, and your previous racing career.

If Ears and Headcase came into the city in a freight can, maybe you got hired to slip a truck into the docks, receive the "shipment" and then drive it to the unloading spot.  Figure they'd want someone who knows what's up for that rather than a civilian, in case whatever fake docs and matrix tinkering they did wasn't enough to throw off suspicion of the cargo, or things otherwise went pear shaped.

Re: Prologue/Backstory
In reply to Headcase (msg # 15):

As Headcase looked over the commlink, the AR environment and Muri herself seemed to begin to synchronize and pulse with the beat leaking from the dangling earbuds.

In response to the question Muri nodded and a private AR window with instructions in multiple languages sprang to life above the link, obviously a rather standardized document.

To receive package:
Upon first activation data will be downloaded to this unit, a strong matrix connection is recommended to ensure accurate and timely data transfer.

Recipient will have five minutes from first activation to initiate a standard device to device transfer of the package.

At the end of the five minute time limit the unit will self wipe.

Failure to follow these instructions will result in a non-delivery of the package, additional redelivery fees may then apply.

Looking way up at the troll, Muri waited to see if there were any other questions.

Anyone who has hung out with him would know his immense hatred for racism, particularly Humanis.

He moved here from LA, and had to work for a few jobs to pay off a debt, so picking up their crate might be easily a way we connected.

He's been asking around the various troll hangouts trying to locate someone by the name of Ghetto Punk. So any trolls might know him from there.

As I said before, in my description, anyone familiar with the Combat Racing scene would recognize him. But if anyone is into Street Racing they would know him as well.

She did not see Firebug.

@Retro

How long ago did you move to Seattle?

Koenig or CK when he's working the Shadows has lived in Seattle all his life.  For some reason he does not own a personal vehicle but he's only been working the shadows for two months roughly.

He has medical training but he's fairly closed about what he used to do.  He does have the bearing of someone who has served in some capacity but he talks more like a nerd in some ways.

Depending on how long you've been here perhaps he pulled you out of an accident and treated you?

Headcase turned over the package a few times, grinning, "So that's it, huh? You got this down, then? Real professional. Well, uh . . . thanks. I'll forward the remainder of your payment as soon as it's done, as agreed." She held up the new comm, waggling it, "If I didn't, I don't  doubt you'd have no trouble finding me."

Headcase turns away, and starts unwrapping the commlink, preparing to sync it to her PAN, then stops short and turns back. "And, uh, I'm sure you were told what I do. If you need anyone in that area, feel free to give me a call. You've got my number. And then some."

Muri bowed again.  "I will pass on your compliments, and I am sure they would want me to tell you that it is a pleasure doing business."

Still standing where she was when the offer of further services came, apparently waiting for Headcase to leave first, Muri replied with a nod and what might have been a smile.  It was a little hard to tell against the video backdrop playing across her face.

That works.  As I could see having a "local" even if CK is new to the shadows would be a good team up.
