"Ah, but if that's the case, then why would a Porte sorcerer be at all offended to be asked to do such things? While it doesn't establish either thing for a fact, the probabilities would certainly seem to point toward both conclusions."

"The Sorciere are Nobility Vasily."  Fiora turns away from the artefact to give him a condescending look.  "And they're freemen. It's beneath them."

Re: Inside the Cathedral

"But are you seeing a Nobleman doing this labor? Or is it a Syrne?" Valentino asks.

"It's starting to sound like the Syrne weren't subject to the normal rules of Sorciere. I must admit, up till now I've only thought of sorcery as a power wielded by a select few."

"But here, we've got a sorcerous device that would appear to be usable by anyone. Are there Consequences?"

"Once again we're presented with differing Syrne abilities. How unique was this tetrahedron? Is it the only one? Or did everyone possess such a device? Or something similar?"

At Anders interruption, Val turns his attention to Alessandra and the Pearl.

"I was about to say 'this can't be good,' but then realized it could be even if I don't understand how."

[@GM Syrne or human?]
"I'm not sure.  Maybe their nobility were less arrogant than the Montaigne, maybe a servant was entrusted with the device, or a skilled mason.  I can only see it being used and for what, not why."

Turning to look back at the tetrahedron, Fiora considers her answer to Valentino's other questions, only to be interrupted by Anders exclamation.  Looking over at Alessandra, she takes in the situation and stares at both the flashing colors and the twisting of fate around the pearl.

"Clearly there's a cause and effect here, but might it not just run its course?"

"How about it, Alessandra? How do you feel? Are you aware that you are glowing?"

"Oh, I get it! Sorceries! Each one is a different type of sorcery! I think... the Pearl is offering me a choice to... gain one?"

"What!?"  Fiora's jaw drops and her eyes widen farther, taking in every last detail she can about the threads tangled around Alessandra.  There's no way she'll be able to replicate the complex weave, but simply knowing it's a thing that can happen is amazing.  "Isn't...  Wasn't there an extinct one that belonged to your people?"

"Well, I think it is a good idea to remember that Sorcery always comes with a price to pay. Before picking something it would be wise to know the price you must pay. Fiora has expounded upon the price she must pay, or at least one of them; the lashes. Perhaps by working together we can recall the known prices of the other choices being presented to you, but I doubt that we can guess the price of Sorceries that are extinct."

Re: Inside the Cathedral

"Very well." Plucking a few strands of fate from the air, Fiora weaves them together as she walks closer, then stands up on her toes to reach Vasily's cheek for a kiss.  The strands she gathered slip into place in the cord of his fate, tugging it toward the result she wants.  "Now try to remember."

You have 3 fate dice to use on memory rolls this scene.  You don't have to use them all on the same roll, but they go away when the scene ends.
Fiora now has 3 lashes in her fate.

Just nudging events forward.

"This all confuses me," Valentino speaks up. "Of course, it all does."

"We know sorcery as a bloodline, such that only someone from Montaigne could be a Porte sorcerer, right? And yet, the Syrne don't seem to have that constraint."

"As far-fetched as that may be, might there be some other guiding or controlling force behind it?"

"I wouldn't know sorcery if it jumped up and smacked me!" Anders responds. "Well, maybe then I  would."

"Doesn't it really get down to what Alessandra wants? What DO you want?"

"This might give you some sorcerous power. It might not. It might only make you sensitive to other sorceries."

"In any case, I get the impression it's waiting for you to decide what you want. If we wait long enough, it just may go away."

Re: Inside the Cathedral

Whether or not Vasily uses the Fate dice Fiora just gave him, he does remember the odd notation on a page, mention of an obscure fact told in a hushed whisper, something seen momentarily...

He's seeing and hearing those things again!

The Notation: The Setine Project. This was the name given to the project that studied the first Syrneth, which was an unearthed hollow-boned humanoid body that had been dug up by the boga herd. The body had an otherwise unidentifiable animalistic head which the long-forgotten author  equated to the Egyptian deity Set's 'animal'.

The Hushed Whisper: The Syrne. The islands where the many different ancient species were subsequently discovered, thus lending the name to the overall creatures. The Dragons. The Insects. The Birds. The Humans.

The Momentary Glimpse: An echo out of time. If there hadn't been an actual physical manifestation, Vasily never  would have seen it!

Fiora is suddenly thrown to the floor!

There is now an 8-foot tall stocky creature standing  there amid everyone! Although it has a humanoid torso, the head is more animal-like, with the elongated face/snout/jaw curving downward, the two strange nub/horns on the forehead, and the large orange eyes that seem to flash with angered intelligence.

Fiora senses that something beyond the obvious has changed within the monastery. The Fate she gave to Vasily shouldn't have, couldn't have done this. There is no strand connecting the Black Pearl to it. Nor is Alessandra's Fate changed. Yet.

There's a resonance... a temporal echo... within this monastery now that's woven everyone's Fate together in an intricate Weave of Possibilities.

Having no idea about sorcery, the electrifying feel of the sudden sorcerous atmosphere startles him but prompts a defensive reaction--he'll try to push Alessandra out of any potential threat's way.

20:34, Today: Anders Mendelsson rolled 29 using 6d10 ((4,7,5,4,8,1)). Defense: Finesse + Athletics.

Bleh. My bleary eyes can only squeeze 2 Raises out of that.

Nah, just the ISO standard "What the...?" except with the blank filled in.  It's not intended as an action, I don't know what the initiative order is yet.  As for using Wits+Weaponry that's the style benefit for the Ambrogia style, using Wits instead of Finesse.

The Ambrogia Duelist was slow to react, spending unnecessary seconds looking around to figure out what was going on. When the creature appears, he moves to draw its attention away from the others.

21:13, Today: Valentino Iocovelli rolled 27 using 6d10 ((1,4,5,9,2,6)).

We seem to be stuck on  6s... Only 2 Raises.

Alessandra Castillo rolled 29 using 6d10.

Alessandra steps away from the creature, praying it will not notice her, and looks for something she can use as a weapon if it does.
