The Bard's Corner

Gang-

Tomorrow, my first work of dark fantasy fiction will be published. It is called 'The Trial' and its a coming of age story of a young officer named Stout. It is a novella, some 20k words, and the first in a series of stories that tell the tale of an elite military group called the MERC.

The website is as follows:

https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/909414

The cost is less than half of the price of a Christmas card ($1.99 US).

If you purchase it, I hope you like reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

That said, I would like to use this thread as a depository or repository for tales, myths and outright lies that you all have run across. That seems fun to me...

Do me a favor, and be honest: does anyone have an issue with me posting the link to the purchase page of my story? If so, I'll take the post down (though I like the idea behind this thread, and will keep it up).

No ill will if any of you object, btw.

Thanks,
The Seer.

If any of you have read 'The Trial' let me know your thoughts. If you think it's great, what made it great? If you think it sucks, tell me why - I've got broad shoulders...and criticism is a sure fire way for me to get better.

Thanks!

By the gods, I hate D&D regardless of iteration.

That said, I'm in two table top 5e campaigns right now and it's better that 4.

But I still find it simplistic and, if I'm being true to myself, I wish you'd all get the hell offa my lawn and we were playing Harnmaster.

orsomething.

In reply to The Seer (msg # 7):

I rolled some real dice a few weeks ago with a small group at our local gaming store. I agreed to DM a 5e adventure and we had a blast! We might make this a monthly deal > our next game is March 5.
Should be fun > nearly all of the players had never played real D&D before.

I agree it's fun to have some new players in the game.  Especially when they start getting in  the game.

Similar situation with the table top group I'm in right now. 2 of the 5 of us had never played D&D before and we've now got two 5e campaigns going. It's been fun to watch them learn the system and in-person rpging (one of them had played Vampire, but the other had only played online Massively Multiplayer games). They also bring a bit of fresh inspiration for those of us who're old hands.

Can I get a head count from everyone who bought The Trial?

If you bought the aforementioned story (The Trial), retail price $1.99, OR you buy it by March 31, I will email you a free copy of the second story called, 'A Deadly Introduction.' Retail price .99 (American Dollar). Deadly Intro publish date is 04/01/2019.

For those of you who want more information, my website is www.talesofthemerc.com - it's a pretty neat site with some great artwork. Both stories are quick reads.

Feedback is welcome - even criticism is welcome as long as it's respectful.

Thanks!

For what it's worth, Smashwords is one of the largest retailers of indy books around. They have a substantial number of fantasy books in their library, some of them actually very good. And they pay their authors fair rates, which allows me to offer prices from .99 to $2.99.

Most of the authors will give you a free sneak peek. And most of the work is priced to sell.

The Bard's Corner

Gang: A Deadly Introduction is officially published. That is the second story in Tales of the Merc.

please note: if you haven't read the first story, The Trial, please due so. It adds context to the second story. Since these first two stories lend to the creation of this world, the MERC, and the main characters (Stout and Malice), reading them in order is important. After the first two stories, the rest will be stand-alones for the most part.

My master plan is as follows:

6 short stories or novellas. The last two (5&6) will be newly published as part of a 6 story anthology.

A full length Novel called 'Before the Wane' (the working title is 'Sentient's Will) that offers some historical context.

6 more stories, under the same format (11 & 12 will be newly published).

A final one or two part novel that sets the end game.

This is, obviously, tentative, but I think that would make a nice series of stories that's pretty easy to read, with compelling characters, interesting plot lines, a well thought out setting with historical narratives to give Flam'Bhoreal life...

Price is $1.99 (just like the first story). You can download at Smashwords, or you can go to Barnes and Noble online and buy it direct (you'll need a nook, or the nook pc app to download).

I am not currently published on Amazon. Once I have the anthology complete, I will publish with them.

Let me know if you have any questions. And thank you for considering reading Tales of the MERC.

For those interested, Tales of the MERC Parts One and Two are free at least through the rest of this month. It's a promotion designed to draw readership to the stories.

I am working on Part Three, which will be a true novella some 50k words. That will retail for somewhere around $5. I'm probably 3-4 months away from the publish date.

To those who've bought/read the first two stories, thank you.

Those of you who are interested, feel free to stop by Smashwords.com (my publisher) and download both. You'll need to set up an account (no big deal). The genre is military fantasy.

My website is www.talesofthemerc.com.

You can also find my author page on FB under Tales of the MERC.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again.
