Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Okay, game on. That has to be one of the worst maps I've ever drawn. Yikes. Hopefully the follow up descriptions gives it some context.

I'm a bit surprised about how easily these beasties are being bested, though AC 5 does hurt a bit. Helps to have some NPC cannon fodder though. Still, you guys earned this one the hard way - good fight, well done.

Not over yet, but will be shortly, I think.

Till next time...

Oh, by the way: two crits that round for you guys. One from Myrrick, the other from the NPC. The two NPC's did their fair share, killing a trog each before going down.

Funny game, this...

I know what your thinking. Who's Boris, right? He's the dead NPC in the corridor. I figured I'd be funny. Har friggin' Har…

So, I know, finally, right? This week, weird. I'm tired and now I've been touched by a stomach flux. Feel like hammered horse shit. But, I got the post up, so that's something. Going to bed now. LOL. Thanks for the patience.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Feeling a lot better. Thanks for for the well wishes (queues sarcasm font...)

In all seriousness, I do feel better - 24 hour bug of some sort. I'll spare the details.

We seem to be winding down this combat - you guys played great, got some really good rolls, and those poor NPCs certainly added a few licks before they fell.

Waiting on Myrrick's post, then well move things along. Cheers!

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

So pleased to hear you're feeling better.... No. Really. Quite pleased. (desperatly looks around for sarcasm font and the realizes he has never bothered with one before, so why start now? oh, wait... maybe this is it? clever. So, that means that all those pervious sarcastic comments weren't taken as such? oops.)

Having those unexpected NPCs with us certainly did help! I really did have to pause and consider not attacking this round to cast CLW on myself before realizing that if just a few of us actually manage to hit we might be able to take them down. Finally.

Go team!

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

I think I am going to start rolling my game dice, instead using the dice roller. My game dice are getting a bit fat, showing some signs of laziness and entitlement. Have to get them in shape. Plus, I've always said that the dice roller here is not as random as regular dice.

That said, no, you can't use your dice too.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Reading Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. About a tenth of the way through. It's really good so far. I'm one of the few that didn't like American Gods, so I was skeptical. We'll see how the rest goes, but I've got good vibes so far.

Has anyone read Richard K. Morgan's "The Steel Remains"?

I highly recommend Joe Abercrombie's The First Law series.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

I liked Neverwhere. The first time I read American Gods I felt the same way, Seer, but then I went back and re-read it last year and enjoyed it much more than I had the first time. I don't know why and I certainly wasn't expecting to. Maybe it's because my expectations were too high through the first read?

I've read the first volume of The Steel Remains. I loved the Takeshi Kovacs novels, but was a bit underwhelmed by the fantasy series. Elements of it are great and as a queer man I was looking forward to a hero who wasn't straight... But, I found it to be a bit discomfiting in an odd way. It's as if he pulled together a group of gay advisers and workshopped the hell of all the homo stuff. In other words, it didn't ring quite true to me and I'm choosing to say that if her were queer it might've worked better. Maybe.

I've heard good things about Joe Abercrombie!

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Since I started writing in Rpol I really haven't been able to get into any fantasy books, and even stories that are plain fiction seem a harder slog.

In part, I put that down to the creativity of those around me and to the fact that I like being part of a living story that I have the power to influence.  Maybe I like producing more than I like reading someone else's fantasy, even though I don't DM.

While much of our writing is passable, some of it is as good a read as you'll get anywhere, and when you're invested in it, it's even better.

I think some of my own feelings on reading novels have been similar to your own disquiet with the Steel Remains series Bruno.  If it doesn't ring true, it sounds false and in this age, there are 100 other things you can do with your time, so why waste a moment?
